New Mum seeking new body by Christmas!

My baby boy is 6 months old and I am quite overweight. Ok, I'm alot overweight (takes deep breath) I'm 15 stone. At 5 ft 7 this is waaay to much. I am sitting here in the one pair of trousers that fit me and my DP's tee shirt because none of my tops fit properly. Basically my stomach looks like a deflated paddling pool and my thighs are so big that I'm fairly sure that if I sit down too much longer they will burst open.

After I had the baby I took the very grown up approach to weight loss and I hoped that if I ignored the problem it would go away and somehow I would have a body like posh spice-because all new mothers lose all the weight instantly don't they? Turns out they don't, and surviving on mini aero's didn't help. I weigh more now than when I gave birth.

I have a serious lack of motivation but I decided to see if I could lose some pounds before Christmas, as I'll be seeing people I haven't seen since I was pregnant and want to look casually fabulous. So are any of you interested in holding my hand, kicking my arse and generally helping each other to stay on track? I really want to do this but I know if I'm not answerable to others my resolve will slip.

I have my first weight watchers meeting tomorrow, which I'm dreading as it will mean that the leader will weigh me and know what a tubby fecker I am. So, if any of you weight watcher followers or followers of other plans would like to come and join me and share stories of jogging up and down while eating maltesers so the points are being eaten and burned off simultaneously or just have a rant about how unfair the world is when you're hungry, you are welcome.

Right, I'm off to remove all the biscuits, chocolate and sweets from my house before tomorrow. That's right, when I say "remove" I do of course mean "eat them".

Glad to hear you had a good weekend SayHello, you deserved it. I'd stay away from the scales, you don't want to ruin the holiday high.

Choos that dress is gorgeous. You have very good taste. I went shopping on Saturday morning for jeans and tried on my first ever pair of skinny jeans and my lovely DS said "Oh no" and shook his head. A mini fashionista I think. They looked truly awful-like 2 very dark blue over stuffed sausages-I didn't buy them.

All our DP's sound very annoying on the weight front, perhaps we should lace their food with cream for the next few weeks and see how they like it. Can you tell I'm a bit evil today?

Onwards and upwards for the next week, after all it is Monday tomorrow, or National "From today I'm going to eat so much healthier" Day. If any of you are suffering from a diet related psychotic breakdown I strongly suggest Modern Family season 3, episode 2 "Phil on a wire". Cam goes on a juice diet and I swear I could see so much of myself in him. I laughed my head off.

I hope everyone has had a good weekend!

You're weekend sounds lovely SayHello. Hope you feel refreshed and treated well!
Cora- have you tried M&S Jeggings? I know the thought of jeggings can be off putting but they were recommended to me by a curvy friend and they are really flattering. Lots of colours and £22.50. Really worth trying on. I have got a few pairs and they can be dressed up or down. Will try and link.
I am going back to a Friday weigh in I think. Which gives me 4 days to try and be good (prosecco Friday and fries on way home (classy), lots of choc and Pasta on Saturday.

Glad you like my dress but it's quite tight and so we'll see (only 1 left!).
I'll join you in the national diet day.
Did you join pinterest?
I brought my DH chocolate eclairs ( I don't like them so not tempted) but he can just eat and eat and eat....

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 10/07/2012 09:28

Well I was away for two nights and my baby can now stand on her own and climb out of her walker, she's growing up way too quickly :(

NewChoos I agree with you on the jeggings, I also have some from Dorothy Perkins that fit me well and again, come in lots of different colours. Don't be put off by the name (I was at first) they just look like jeans.

Hope everyone is doing well :)

CoraBear · 13/07/2012 17:40

Hi all,

sorry for the lack of posting, my computer (or Mumsnet) has been driving me insane. I keep getting logged off, or every time I go to post Mumsnet is off line.

I have eaten like crazy this week, down to PMT hormones I think. I had a little party here yesterday and I have scarfed all the left overs- biscuits, buns, crisps and chocolate bars. If the weighing scales comes near me I know it will end badly. I haven't even been that active due to the crappy weather. Ugh!

How did every one else get on?

I know what you mean about babies growing up so fast SayHello, my son has started to talk (it's taken ages due to his heart issues) and it's so sweet to hear his little raspy voice. We took him to the beach on Saturday and he ran in to the sea with all of his clothes on, this time last year he was a little lump who didn't really move. I have a feeling I'll be sobbing in to a glass of wine watching home movies tonight.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

OP posts:
SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 13/07/2012 19:11

Aww Cora, that's so sweet. I have to confess that I had a little cry a few months ago as I was looking through baby photos of my eldest and I realised she's not "that" baby anymore, if that makes sense. But at the same time, the more she grows the more she just amazes me with the things she says and does :)

I had my weigh in yesterday and I lost 2lbs so I was very happy. However, I'm having a takeaway and a few drinks tonight so I'll probably put it back on.
I'm feeling quite positive though because I've just purchased a double buggy (I bought one before dd was born, used it once and hated it but I love this one) so I had a great walk today and hopefully if the rain stays off I can carry on speedwalking.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

CoraBear · 14/07/2012 20:03

What buggy did you get SayHello? My friend is looking to buy one as she is planning another baby and wants to start looking around for one. That's brilliant weight loss, I hope you enjoy your takeaway and drinks tonight.

I have eaten and eaten and eaten today. Hello my name is CoraBear Fontelroy-Montague Deveraux III and I am a hormonal eater. Alright so that may not be my real name but I am a hormonal eater. And it HAS to be carbs. Sugary, delicious carbs. I have an indian mix pack from Tesco filled with onion bhaji's, samosa's and pakora's in the fridge waiting for my dinner. I had to restrain myself from eating them for breakfast. Hopefully this will pass in a day or two and I can become a normal person again.

Have a great weekend everyone!

OP posts:
SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 15/07/2012 10:35

I got the babyjogger metro cora. I really like it because both seats recline but you can have one up one down and the same with the hoods (a few of them I looked at you have to put both hoods down, recline both chairs at the same time.)

It's so easy to fold down and fits easily in to our car. My old double was a tandem, I couldn't fold it down and was a struggle to fit in to our car. The only bad thing about the babyjogger is that it is quite wide (I can't fit it through my front door so it has to be folded down first) My friend has the babyjogger mini and they both look the same but she can fit hers through her door so would recommend the mini :) I haven't tried to get on a bus with mines but my friend has and it fit.

Yum, that indian mix sounds sooooo good!! Damn, guess what I'm in the mood for now??

CoraBear · 15/07/2012 11:20

That buggy sounds fab, I'll let my friend know. Thanks for that.

The indian dinner was delish, I could have eaten it all night. I had to share it with DP as he suddenly got the munchies when he smelled it. Junk food is not being brought in to this house anymore. I ended up having m&m's and skittles last night. I'm so annoyed at myself.

OP posts:
NewChoos · 15/07/2012 12:06

Hello all, sounds like good weekends have been had!
I've been rubbish on my diet and STS this week, planning to low carb and try and kick start myself a bit more.
Had time out with a friend yesterday (coffee, cake, shopping and supper out). Felt like a real treat.
I've got a baby jogger city mini that I use for our commute to nursery and it's great.
Your Indian snack pack sounds gorgeous Cora... I wish I didn't love eating!!

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 15/07/2012 14:12

Yeh, I really like the buggy I just wish I'd bought it at the beginning. I'm going to try and sell the tandem and maybe another pushchair I have, my house isn't big enough for all these prams.

I had peanut m&m's the other night cora, haven't had them for ages and ate pretty much the whole packet (not the small pack either). Sometimes it just has to be done :)

That sounds like a nice day out Choos. I love meeting friends for shopping and cake.

CoraBear · 15/07/2012 22:58

Oh Choos, that made me laugh my head off... "I wish I didn't love eating!!"
It sounds like something out of Wallace and Gromit. I don't know why. I'm sure that's not your accent.

I have a horrendous diet confession, I had meant to have goats cheese and red onion tart with spinach for dinner, do you now what I had???? Sodding Doritio's. How bad is that?! My DP is out for the night and I had to put DS to bed and by that stage I wasn't fussed cooking so I just ate Dorito's. That's dreadful! I need to get myself in check.

We have a Graco Quatro Tour Deluxe buggy/travel system thing. It is the best buggy ever. It's enormous but it is like a tank and I can carry so much shopping and crap that we need for days out in it. I love it. We were going to get a little buggy but I realised they are all a bit flimsy so I'm sticking with the tank. Also it fits a buggy board on the back when I have younger kids out with me.

It's six months until Christmas and I think that I might need to step it up a gear to ensure that I'm not stuck in this weight loss rut again this year. So, I'm a not-so-new Mum seeking a new body by Christmas. No more junk food! If only it would stop magically appearing in my trolley...and then in my hand...and then it seems to disappear.

OP posts:
NewChoos · 16/07/2012 20:14

I've got a really really dry sense of humour, love wallace and gromit!

Doritos for dinner - not so bad. I love peanut m and m's too. I want them both - now!

I would love to be slim for Christmas but I am hoping to with child (she says gracefully) by then. Is there any hope I can actually stick to a diet before then???

CoraBear · 17/07/2012 09:37

Oh my God Choos that is so exciting!!!! I think you should try to stick to eating healthily before you get pregnant and let weight loss be a side effect of getting your body ready for a baby. That way you won't feel too bad when all you want to eat is loaves of white bread to keep the morning sickness at bay.

We're going to try next year so I'm back on my pre-natal vitamins, I forgot they tasted so bad. You know you'll have to come by this thread and let us all know how your getting on when you're pregnant Choos, you can't leave us.

I had my weigh in, I put on a pound and a half but I think that is mainly from Dorito-fest 2012 so I'm going to weigh myself again on Thursday. I've was ok with my diet yesterday, not great though. I'm finding snacking to be a bit of an issue, but I went out for a walk with DS on the "hill way" to the shops (it involves two enormous hills to push the buggy up). I felt like I had worked out after it.

Hope everyone is getting on well.

OP posts:
SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 17/07/2012 11:14

Awww how exciting for you both!! We'll just have to keep the thread going anyway even if no one is dieting :) It can be like a therapy thread for mums with toddlers and newborns haha.

My weigh in is Thursday and I'm not too sure how I'll do. I had cake last night after tea, I couldn't resist and I feel no guilt because it tasted so good.

Dorito-fest sounds fab, I can see that catching on!!

NewChoos · 18/07/2012 15:32

Totally agree with keeping the thread going, it might stop my eating my weight in dairy milk. I had awful nausea last time and shortbread seemed to be the only thing that helped....
Very exciting:) Although I think we must be mad as LittleChoos still not sleeping brilliantly (and persists in Bfeeding at night!) and we're both super busy at work, but we want to add to our little family without a big age gap (fingers crossed). Early next year Cora? Maybe we'll be pregnant at the same time?!
I'm not optimistic for weight loss this week (likely gain). Going to try harder, I really want to be healthy as you said Cora.
Hope everyone is having a nice day? I met a friend for lunch (It's my day off) and went to the garden centre - I am officially old. Little Choos is insisting on toddling everywhere, he's a great money saving tip for shopping trips!

CoraBear · 19/07/2012 13:41

Definitely voting for keeping the thread going. I'm trying to decide when to get pregnant, DP wants another spring baby but his busy work time (he travels alot) is between March and October so I don't want to be alone with a toddler and a newborn. I fancy a late November/early December baby.

I have horrendous hayfever at the moment, my entire head is swollen and itching. I would quite like to take my head off and rinse it. It feels like it's full of dust. I only have drowsy piriton so I can't even take anything.

I forgot to weigh myself this morning. I remembered after I'd had breakfast so I have no idea if I've lost the Dorito weight.

Choos you're only old if you go to a garden centre on a Sunday, same goes for going to a DIY shop that day too. That's my logic anyway. So you can stay youthful as long as you avoid visiting them on Sundays!

OP posts:
SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 21/07/2012 07:48

Forgot to weigh myself yesterday but did it this morning (after having my Friday night munch yesterday) and I've stayed the same. The sun seems to be coming out a bit more though so I'm getting a lot more exercise. Looks like it's gonna be a nce day today too :)

Biscuitsandtea · 21/07/2012 08:22

Oh wow - so many of you are planning more babies! I think I'm done now with the 2 minibiscuits. I was really bad after ds1 at not 'bothering' to lose the weight on the basis it would all go to pot again when I was pg. Then it took us a lot longer to get pg than we'd anticipated (19 mths) so that made me comfort eat. So I think you are all marvellous for sticking with it before getting pg. I really wish I'd been in better shape before I got pg again. I used to hang my hat on the logic that 'I shouldn't diet if I could be pg, therefore I should eat endless cake and chocolate' Hmm. The results were obvious!

I've had an ok ish week food wise. Not great, not awful. What I have been trying to do is stop eating my dinner when I'm full, rather than ploughing on through an enormous portion to clear my plate. And so far so goo. I've just weighed in and lost 3 lbs this week. That makes half a stone in 5 weeks, which will do me I think.

NewChoos · 21/07/2012 10:29

I can't stop eating. Seriously - I am doing so badly. I didn't to stop somehow!

Biscuits - super well done! Well done on STS SayHello.
Cora- hope you are better. You'd have to get busy for a spring baby!!!

CoraBear · 24/07/2012 10:37

Have to post and dash- just to let you know that I did a weigh in and I've put on three pounds! I've hardly eaten a thing all weekend so I am thoroughly pissed off (and starving). I don't know what's going on with my body, I'm so bloated and uncomfortable despite really being careful.

My resolve is fading fast and all I want is junk food. But I plan to stick at it.

Hope everyone else gets on ok. Good luck!

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 24/07/2012 11:07

Don't panic Cora Smile

Be kind to yourself. Maybe if you've eaten v little your body is panicking and doing that starvation thing? Try eating little and often to avoid feeling starving hungry and to keep your blood sugar levels from dipping too much?

Don't forget though, like house prices, your weight will go up and down on its way to being super fabulous so don't be put off by one week's increase. If you're feeling bloated too (did you say that or have I made it up?) it could well be that so see what happens when that passes?

In the meantime have a virtual calorie free Biscuit and Brew / Wine *

CoraBear · 24/07/2012 15:46

Hi Biscuits, congratulations on your 3 lbs, you must be thrilled.

I'm not sure what's going on with me, I'm not hungry most of the day so I eat very little and then when I do eat I realise I'm starving. It's been a busy few days so I've been running around, I think that's the other reason I'm annoyed, I'm eating less and been running around, how the hell does that equal a three pound gain???!!!

I even tried to convince myself that the scales might be broken but I know it's not.

Are you following a diet or are you just doing the healthy eating thing?

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 24/07/2012 16:54

It's so frustrating when you think you've done ok and then the stupid scales lie to you SadAngry

I've been half heartedly doing Paul McKenna in as much as trying to only eat until I'm full, combined with a bit of trying to cut down my snacking etc. I suppose I'm trying to do the least possible .

Would like to fit in a bit of exercise hit can't fathom it out with a 4 mth old Confused

CoraBear · 24/07/2012 17:30

I have no time to exercise, I try but something comes up or I am so flippin tired that I can't bear the thought of it. I have been doing a bit more walking, weather permitting. I watched the Paul Mc Kenna show but I couldn't get in to it, I'm quite a wired person so I find it hard to relax and focus (I think the amount of coffee I drink doesn't help).

Whatever it is that you are doing is clearly working-even if it's half hearted you are getting results. I made a healthy dinner, I better lose weight next week or I am shipping my body off to medical science to study.

OP posts:
NewChoos · 24/07/2012 20:56

Cora - must be a blip, weigh yourself again in a few days time. Don't be too disheartened, you've come far.

I had a complete shock at the weekend as I weighed myself and had out the 3lbs I lost back on and another lb!!!! So I hav am day 3 of low carbing. I have made a deal with myself, if I lost 14lbs by Aug 23 then I can buy myself a treat.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sun, it's so nice but has also reminded me that I want to buy gorgeous clothes and not be worried about looking tubby.
Enjoy sunny Wednesday everyone. I have a day off work. Poor LittleChoos is not on good form though - teething +++
