New Mum seeking new body by Christmas!

My baby boy is 6 months old and I am quite overweight. Ok, I'm alot overweight (takes deep breath) I'm 15 stone. At 5 ft 7 this is waaay to much. I am sitting here in the one pair of trousers that fit me and my DP's tee shirt because none of my tops fit properly. Basically my stomach looks like a deflated paddling pool and my thighs are so big that I'm fairly sure that if I sit down too much longer they will burst open.

After I had the baby I took the very grown up approach to weight loss and I hoped that if I ignored the problem it would go away and somehow I would have a body like posh spice-because all new mothers lose all the weight instantly don't they? Turns out they don't, and surviving on mini aero's didn't help. I weigh more now than when I gave birth.

I have a serious lack of motivation but I decided to see if I could lose some pounds before Christmas, as I'll be seeing people I haven't seen since I was pregnant and want to look casually fabulous. So are any of you interested in holding my hand, kicking my arse and generally helping each other to stay on track? I really want to do this but I know if I'm not answerable to others my resolve will slip.

I have my first weight watchers meeting tomorrow, which I'm dreading as it will mean that the leader will weigh me and know what a tubby fecker I am. So, if any of you weight watcher followers or followers of other plans would like to come and join me and share stories of jogging up and down while eating maltesers so the points are being eaten and burned off simultaneously or just have a rant about how unfair the world is when you're hungry, you are welcome.

Right, I'm off to remove all the biscuits, chocolate and sweets from my house before tomorrow. That's right, when I say "remove" I do of course mean "eat them".

Yay!! Can't believe I missed all the excitement because I was at work. Fantastic news both of you.You definitely need to patent your diet Cora.

My weigh should be Monday but think I am going to do Tuesdays so I can make up for any weekend prosecco on Monday. Having said that I have still not been good enough. The truth will out on Tuesday....

CoraBear · 28/06/2012 20:51

I have no idea where I have lost the weight from, I look the same, but then I never really look at my self in the mirror, I cast a very critical eye, perhaps I have lost weight in areas I don't focus on. I thought my scales might be broken so I weighed DS and he weighed the same as normal so it is right.

My weigh in is Tuesday too but I'm out for dinner tomorrow night so I don't expect miracles.

Has everyone got exiting weekend plans? I don't, I just want to live vicariously through you all.

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 29/06/2012 16:59

If you see someone you haven't saw in a few weeks then I think they'll notice a difference Cora. It's hard to tell by looking at yourself but I bet you look fab :)

I have no exciting plans for this weekend, got to save my pennies for my weekend away next week. So dvd night for me and dp tonight I think, what a wild life I lead.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

CoraBear · 01/07/2012 14:02

My Mum commented today that I'd lost weight, yay! She would never normally comment on things like that so I was happy.

What plans have you for your weekend away SayHello? I was offered a free holiday in Spain but I turned it down because I couldn't face the journey with DS (2 hour flight then 90 min train journey to outside Barcelona). I had a major guilt attack over turning it down but I know it was for the best.

Have been eating like a savage today but barely ate yesterday so I seem to be compensating. Going out for a swim with DS now so it should be good.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend.

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 01/07/2012 17:53

Yay, told you other people would notice :)

I'm going to Manchester for the weekend, so we're justgoing to do some shopping, have a night out and one of the days we're going to Alton Towers. The hotel has a spa so we'll hopefully chill out there and have some treatments :) My mum and dad are taking the kids to their caravan so my eldest is very excited too haha.

This weekend has been rubbish tbh, it's constantly rained so we haven't done much. It's meant to be rainy all week too so we're going to be doing a lot of swimming and going to soft plays I think. Hate this weather, I will happily take your free holiday in Spain :) I know what you mean about the travelling though, and also the amount of stuff you have to pack when you go away with little ones. I'd like to book a holiday for next year but I think it'll be a nightmare getting anywhere.

NewChoos · 01/07/2012 20:42

Good news that your mum noticed Cora.
Sorry your weekend was a bit rubbish SayHello. LittleChoos is teething and feeling very miserable. We spend today clearing out the spare room so he can have a play room, I have bags of clothes and shoes for the charity shop. Trying not to spend money, but I made a raging PMT purchase ( a bag I don't need and that I don't love) and I can't return it as it was in he sale. Very cross with self. I must stop wasting money.

We travelled to Italy with LittleChoos and he coped well with it. Having said that, it was harder work than being at home.
Diet wise, been ok ish, will be hard to tell if lost weight get bloated with pmt but will weigh on Tuesday and then maybe again later in the week.

CoraBear · 02/07/2012 06:00

SayHello, that sounds like a lovely weekend away. I really hope you enjoy it. I bet the kids will have a great time at the caravan.

Choos can you put the bag away as a gift for someone? I have had buyers remorse before, it's not good. The playroom sounds great, I bet Little Choos will love it. And then you can close the door on all of the mess at the end of the day!

I can't bear the thought of bringing DS on a long plane journey and then on a train. We won't be able to bring him out for most of the day because it'll be boiling so I'm sort of set against it. And I don't think it'll be a holiday if I'm doing loads of extra work in a very hot climate.

Lets hope this week gives us some weight loss!

OP posts:
NewChoos · 02/07/2012 08:08

The bag was more expensive than I would normally spend on a gift (well the only person I would is my bf and it's not to her taste). I am just going to use the bloomin thing and try and learn the lesson. I seem to have developed a habit of spending my birthday money on bags I then regret buying (still have 1 from last year, totally unused and tried to return but wouldn't accept as after 14 days at the time- so cross, could have got clothes). Maybe I'll try and ebay to try and recoup some of the costs.

SayHello- am a big fan of a spa. Nice for you all to have a break! Especially nice for you to have an adult break - I'm looking forward to that one day!
I think you made the right decision Cora, the heat and extra effort wouldn't have made it much of a holiday for you. Can you do days out locally? I think that's what we are going to do in August and then maybe go away in September.

CoraBear · 03/07/2012 15:58

Hi all,

had my weigh in. I seem to have stayed the same but I'm not really surprised at that. Initially when I stood on the scale it said I had lost a stone but it turns out the scales was caught in the bath mat. Damn bath mat.

I think you should ebay your stuff Choos, and then spend the money earned on clothes! Or on an adult break away.

Hope everyones weigh in went well.

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 03/07/2012 18:09

Oh God, just typed a confession then mumsnet went offline so I have to write it again, I have gained 3 pounds :(

I'm gutted but it's my own fault because I've been a complete pig. Dp is off work and we've been eating loads and I've been having a few drinks at night too so it's obviously all caught up on me.

I think I have PMT (sorry, too much info there) and I just want to eat chocolate all the time. So disappointed in myself, I wanted to be slim for my trip, now I'm just going to be a little bloater!!

NewChoos · 03/07/2012 21:31

3ibs from me! Finally a loss...

Cora well done on STS and SayHello onwards and upwards and it's a medical fact that woman need chocolate when we have pmt.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/07/2012 07:27

Hi,

Just wondered whether you have space for a newbie? I know this thread was started with thoughts of last Christmas, but I am indeed a new mum looking for a new body by this christmas.

I need done watchful eyes to keep me on the straight and narrow and to hold my hand? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease Smile

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 05/07/2012 08:56

Of course Biscuits, we've always got room for a newbie :) how old is your little one?

Me and the scales have fallen out so I won't be back on them again til next Thursday when hopefully I'll have dropped a few lb's.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/07/2012 09:12

I suppose technically I'm a new-again mum as I've got 2 DSs - 3.9 years and 17 weeks. I never lost the weight from ds1 though.... Confused

CoraBear · 06/07/2012 08:33

Hi all,

Congratulations on the three pounds Choos, that's brilliant. You must be delighted.

SayHello- I have to agree with Choos, chocolate is a medical necessity when you have PMT. The three pounds could also be water retention.

Hi Biscuitsandtea- welcome to the thread. Always room for new people here.

DS has had a stomach bug this week so I've been kept very busy with that, is it wrong that I won't mind if I catch it because I'll lose some weight? Mumsnet keeps logging me out when I go to post a message, hence my not posting in a while. It's infuriating, is anyone else having problems?

Right, I'm going to see if this works.

OP posts:
CoraBear · 06/07/2012 08:33

Yay, it's working again.

OP posts:
CoraBear · 06/07/2012 22:17

I am a junk food savage today. PMS me thinks. So I'm giving myself today to indulge (have just had a bag of Dorito's) and then back on the diet band wagon tomorrow. I'm putting a time limit on it or I will eat shite for days.

I bought hot chocolate today because the weather is so awful and my body clearly thinks it is November. I went to a gig last night and drove, so I didn't drink or eat the tasty tasty fried food on offer (which only taste good after a few vino's). And while I was happy with myself for abstaining, I think I may have given SIL the impression that I'm pregnant. She gave me a funny look when I said I wasn't drinking. We have DP's family bbq on Saturday so I think I may be fending off a few rumours.

How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 07/07/2012 04:03

Well done for avoiding the bad stuff Cora - that takes some will power indeed :)

I've not been doing too badly the last few days. Only a handful of snacks instead of a mountain of them Grin.

Weigh in in the morning.... Confused

Biscuitsandtea · 07/07/2012 07:48

Hmmmm, weighed in and I've lost half a lb Sad. Again. So in 2 weeks my efforts have amounted to 1 lb Sad. In 3 weeks, 3 lbs. I feel quite despondent about it all to be honest. DH has lost 6 lbs this week. Pleased for him but Envy too (which makes me a bad person Blush).

I've tried pretty hard this week too Sad

CoraBear · 08/07/2012 10:13

Hi Biscuits,

try not to be too discouraged, I really know what it's like to eat healthily and be active and drop half a pound, it's very frustrating. But don't give up. Weight loss after a baby is very difficult but three pounds in three weeks is great. If you continue to lose weight at that rate, imagine how amazing you will look in 6 weeks when you will be nine pounds down. Try to look at the long term because in the end we're all looking for long term weight loss.

And your husband losing 6 lbs, how dare he! Smile From now on any weight loss over 2 lbs he's to keep to himself. I hate diet over achievers! My DP was the same, gave up chocolate and dropped 8 lbs in 4 weeks, I was starving away on weight watchers and lost no where near that much. Don't feel about about being envious, at least you weren't rage filled like I was.

I have a theory that a woman's metabolism slows down during pregnancy to cope with trying to absorb all the nutrients for her and the baby. And then post-baby the metabolism remains sluggish because it has gotten used to working at a very slow speed. Exercise speeds it up a bit but who the hell has time for that when you've just had a baby.

Keep your spirits up Biscuits, you are doing really well. Try to focus on the long term and one pound gone is closer to your goal weight.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend!

OP posts:
CoraBear · 08/07/2012 10:15

That's supposed to say "Don't worry about feeling envious". Don't know what happened there.

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 08/07/2012 10:19

Awww thanks Cora Smile. I like your theory about the metabolism.

Biscuitsandtea · 08/07/2012 10:24

Pah! DH just came to tell me that his jeans are too big and he's had to take his belt in another notch.

Like. I. Care.

NewChoos · 08/07/2012 12:22

Hi,

Hello to Biscuit. And I have an annoying DH too who loses weight really easily. In fact he find it hard to maintain grrrr!
Hope your DS is better Cora. How are things SayHello?
I have gone off the rails a bit the past few days and so trying to get back on track- it's just so boring isn't it? I just can't seem to get my motivation back.
We might have a olympic party though and so it would be nice to lose at least half a stone for that (to get be back to where I was before Christmas).
I purchased this yesterday, it was on sale in JL and I have been admiring it for ages. Anyway, it's a bit tight and so I have something to aim for:
www.whistles.co.uk/fcp/categorylist/dept/shop?resetFilters=true#ID=id_903000057970_dresses_GBP&category=dresses
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

SayHelloToMyLittleFriend · 08/07/2012 19:48

I'm back now from my weekend away and it was fab :) We even got a bit of sun. I'm just waiting on my babies coming home, have missed them lots. I think they'll both fall asleep in the car though so may have to wait til the morning for a proper cuddle from them.

I'm staying away from the scales, I can actually feel I've put on weight so from tomorrow I'm being so healthy and I'll weigh in again on Thursday.

I like your dress Choos and that will give you motivation too if it's a bit tight just now.

That theory sounds good actually Cora, I think you're right. Before babies, I never gained weight. I would eat whatever I wanted and stayed a size 8. I actually eat better now but I doubt I'll ever be as thin.

Biscuits I too have an annoying dp who can eat what he wants and doesn't gain weight. He's driving me mad just now though because he thinks he's getting a tummy and he's not.

Hope everyone's had a nice weekend.
