I have just done the shred for the first time in months! I can feel the aching already! Think I might treat myself to a hot chocolate.

stripygiraffe · 06/02/2012 23:03

Day 4 of Shredding done. Cardio is noticeably easier now. Strength stuff still harder as my muscles are sore but I can nearly do a fake press up! This is uncanny!

Much better with eating today. Still a bit of unnecessary snacking but I busied myself in the evening which helped. Still find it hard to eat slowly when eating with the kids. I keep having to gulp down a mouthful to tell someone off or answer many, many questions Wink

Hello to all

stripygiraffe · 06/02/2012 23:03

Welcome to Shredding GoodFun

stripygiraffe · 06/02/2012 23:05

Have we lost ppeat? Haven't seen her for a bit. She is so wise Sad

Solo · 06/02/2012 23:35

Moving I reckon you should have your own copy of the book anyway.

Stripy pp comes and goes between the UK and France and sometimes doesn't have internet so we lose her for short periods of time. She'll be back though :) I miss her too ~ she's lovely!

Hi to everyone else...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 06/02/2012 23:44

Evening ladies. I was hungry so I've just eaten - but now I feel guilty because I should just have gone to bed, shouldn't I? Eating late at night is not great is it?

Moving - yes get your own copy, mine was about £6 on Amazon I think, that was new. I write on mine.

stripy the worst ones for me are the ones where you raise the weights in front of yourself and lunge to the side at the same time. Absolute killer.

Solo · 06/02/2012 23:45

Hi Ali :)

BigBoobiedBertha · 07/02/2012 00:06

Hi ladies! Hope you are all OK.

Story of my life that Alibaba - eating instead of sleeping. My bete noir that is.Blush

I'm avoiding eating now by hiding in the loft (we have a conversion I haven't just shinned up into the attic) where there is no food. The downside of that is that I wasn't sitting with DH this evening although to be fair today it had the added advantage of avoiding the bloody football plus highlights of the superbowl. Living with 3 males can be very tough.

Moving - you can get copies of the book from eBay for 99p plus £2 postage if you don't want to shell out for a new copy. I agree that it is certainly worth proper read even if you don't buy it (library copy would do). It isn't a big book and there isn't much in it really but reading it focusses the mind, clarifies the details and can be very motivating.

By the way, I think you are all mad with this shredding business. I am afraid I am firmly with PMcK on this one 'no pain, no pain'Grin

SOLOmanPross · 07/02/2012 00:23

Hi BBB :) I can't shred either. I would love to be able to though.

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 07/02/2012 07:09

Ali if you were hungry, actual hunger (not emotional) then you were right to eat. Remember the rules! Just try to keep it light before bed. I like to opt for hot chocolate. Fills your tum but isn't heavy.
I was joint biggest loser at the gym :) and got a special mention in the newsletter!
Well done to everyone, successful it struggling. At least you're here, sticking with it!

KinkyDorito · 07/02/2012 08:20

Ali I can't sleep if I go to bed hungry.

Phoenix That's great!! Well done Smile.

BigBoobied They are sucking me into the Shred. I have a copy and I'm actually contemplating doing it again... say something to bring me to my senses Grin.

And congratulations to stripy on the fake press up victory! Grin

I am feeling decidedly more human from actually leaving the house, not that I can claim to have done very much as I'm on 5 hours this week (phased return, although I will be in more than that if DD is at school). The only thing is that it's left me shattered - I think it's the emotion of going back, having to catch up with everyone about DD, etc. I need to force myself to get off my bum and on to the crosstrainer this evening.

KinkyDorito · 07/02/2012 08:21

Hello to everyone else, 3, Solo, Lotsof, there's so many people!

BigBoobiedBertha · 07/02/2012 10:02

Kinky - Don't do it! There are nicer ways to exercise and burn some calories.

PMcK says the biggest exercise myth is 'no pain, no gain'. Why do something that is going to hurt!? Don't do exercise because you think you should, do it because you want to. I think the clue is in the name too - 30 day shred. It is 30 days because it isn't enjoyable for most people but the makers of the DVD reckon at least some people can hack it for 30 days. How many people go beyond that? You need to find something that you like doing so that it is part of your life forever, not for 30 days.

Exercise is defined in The Book as anything that raises your heart and breathing rates. There are lots more enjoyable and less painful ways of doing that. My personal choice would be dancing but since I need structure, it would have to be something like Let's Dance on the Wii. Or walking, briskly and steadily. Or if I thought I would stick to it and go out in the snow and rain if needs be, I would prefer the gym - weights and then exercise bike or walking running machine.

But don't let me put you off if you do enjoy the shred. It just doesn't do it for me and I am secretly in awe of anybody who does it every day.Grin

Solo - It isn't that I can't shred, I just don't want to. Sounds like torture!! Smile

BigBoobiedBertha · 07/02/2012 10:04

And I don't like the name - I don't want to be shredded! I keep thinking of the wheat. Smile

SOLOmanPross · 07/02/2012 10:12

I would love to be able to exercise properly :( I miss it and it's almost 10 years since I stumbled walked out of my aerobics class...I did do the tone and stretch for a few times last year, but had the Dc's ill and then I was/am ill so didn't return. I'm thinking of walking the school run at least once a day if I can.

SOLOmanPross · 07/02/2012 10:16

Thinking of the new thread title probably towards the weekend. How about:

Paul McKenna's No Pain, No Pain Non Diet for those who really want to lose weight. No calories, no syns, no humiliation, just shedding stones amongst friends. Thread 8

SOLOmanPross · 07/02/2012 10:17

Opinions?

BigBoobiedBertha · 07/02/2012 10:28

Walking to school would be great Solo. How far is it? I don't have the opportunity for the school run unfortunately, I live next door to the school. I barely need to take my slippers off!

It is tough that you are restricted if you like doing classes and exercise DVDs though. Sad

The title is good. I like the 'no pain' bit.Wink

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/02/2012 10:43

I like it Solo.

I know what you all mean about the Shred, but actually I quite like it. It is quick, it works and it means I don't have to think about exercise really. Yes it is hard, but 5 minutes after I finish it I feel great.
I walk twice a day anyway to take DS1 to and from preschool - not far but it helps.
I'm not keen on the gym, and at the moment there is no slot in my day when I could go without it causing a major disruption in the day. Plus you have to wait for machines etc so I would rather just do 25 minutes at home and then it is done.

I love Pilates and stretching, and over time it is probably the thing that works the best. But I have a dress to look fabulous in in less than 3 weeks time so I need quick results Grin

Phoenix - I was actually hungry, proper belly rumble, so I guess it is fine. The secret I think is to go to bed before I get to that point - up far too late last night!

So, so tired today. DS2 has got a cold and so he was in our bed and wriggling about all night last night. We finally got him settled in his cot at 6.30 this morning and DH and I both just flaked out. Poor DS1 came and sat inbetween us and played games on my phone until 8.30 when DH hauled himself out to sort out some food for him. He was allowed to eat his breakfast on the sofa in front of Cbeebies as a treat and a thank you :)

stripygiraffe · 07/02/2012 12:49

I am enjoying Shredding too. But I do genuinely feel 'motivated to take exercise' as PMK would say. I love that it is so short and I feel great when it's done.

Do what works for you is the key I think.

Good title Solo.

BigBoobiedBertha · 07/02/2012 12:58

Indeed, do what makes you happy. Smile

I was feeling a bit outnumbered, was all and was justifying to myself why it isn't necessary for this to work - hard core workouts are not the Pauling way but that doesn't mean that they are wrong just not part of Pauling. And now I feel guilty for giving into Kinky's request to stop her doing it too. Blush

On the other hand, if she is looking for a reason not to do it, she probably doesn't want to do it which is reason enough not to........ or something like that. Confused

If you want to do it Kinky, do it. If you don't, don't. Simples. Smile

LotsOfGoodFunThatIsFunny · 07/02/2012 13:22

Hi all

I find shredding sore the first couple of times I do it but after that it isn't too bad. I'm going to combine it hopefully with the occasional walk, swim, yoga or pilates and maybe even horse riding :)

Solo the title sounds good, Pauling really doesn't feel like dieting. Fingers crossed it is actually working!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 07/02/2012 13:35

Oh dear, I've just scoffed my lunch whilst deleting emails Confused

SOLOmanPross · 07/02/2012 17:24

Our school run is about 3 miles return. BBB do you recall I did it more than a year ago when we were on our thread? and it was 6 miles a day and nearly killed me?!!

Just to make excuses justify my inability to do hard exercise, I have had ME for over 12 years. As much as I'd love to, I really can't without it impacting on my health :(

I will raise the new thread when appropriate then :)

KinkyDorito · 07/02/2012 17:29

Somebody slap me.

I'm pleased to be back at work, but that thing is happening where I get to now in the evening and I feel totally done in. It is this entirely knackered feeling that has contributed to me eating so many takeaways and spending hours on the sofa each night, hence gaining mega weight over the past 6 years.

I am back in the funk. I've totally just overeaten my tea and I want to go to sleep.

Somebody come round and make me go on the crosstrainer. One does not lose 4.5st by sitting on their arse eating ferrero rocher.

Hmmm... ferrero rocher... Grin
