Starting a low carb diet - anyone interested in going for it with me?!

I did this very successfully indeed for about 6 weeks in the run up to the summer break. I have been trying to lose weight for a while and was doing OK but then reached a plateau which was when I decided to try something new. And I easily lost a stone doing this.

It was hard in the beginning, for about the first week, then I sort of settled in to it and it just became how it was. And I like the rules of it, because you just can't cheat on it. But it was sometimes hard juggling what the family were going to eat.

I have been cutting down since Tuesday, but will be going for it completely on Monday 5th. I want to lose a stone. Is anyone interested??!!!

piste same neck of the woods - dm and df are from aughnacloy. Arse end of nowhere but you have to drive through to get anywhere!

cust the crackers are really mreally nice, worth a try esp the spicey ones. Not your normal tasteless linseed shit, promis. £££ though.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/09/2011 06:43

arse end of no where - but they want to eat a lot!!

Well done Rather that's a great result! I have lost a 1lb since Monday or Tuesday which is okay. Am hoping for a bit more next week when I will have done a complete week but we will see as the weekends are harder with the lure of alcohol! However my normal tipple is a nice white wine but am going to try and stick to vodka and soda or vodka and slimline tonic if I drink at all.

Hi everyone just found this thread...

Quick question if someone could let me know...who is the author of the low carb gourmet recipe book as I've found a few with similar titles?

I've been low carbing from Jan to Easter (lost 20lbs). I lost the plot over summer (was cheating too much at weekends so didn't lose). But I am back on it now and on day 5. So far 3lbs gone.

I am determined to keep it going straight for 2 weeks with no cheats as I'm starting a boot camp after which I'm hoping will help. Got 11lbs left to go now. BUT I really need new recipes to curb the boredom!

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/09/2011 08:42

The recipe book that goes with The Idiot Proof Diet has some really tasty ideas

Well, breakfast was plain youghurt and raspberries with linseeds this morning. Last night we had Morrocan spiced roast aubergine and turkey burgers. Not sure about the rest of today though.

really pleased with the weight loss to start although am a bit worried it might all be water and that this will slow down considerably. Fingers crossed it won't.
Where is everyone else today?

FreeButtonBee · 09/09/2011 12:08

slight headache today! Man, I needed that wine last night though. This week has been manic. Will be well behaved tonight and apart from a BBQ tomorrow afternoon, will try to be good all weekend.

But 1lb down. So on the right road. I'd like to lose 10 in total but getting under 10st proved very elusive last time round.

Quite kotinka - we have bottles of Sam Adams Boston lager in the fridge and I really could do with them.

2 slices of pizza and we're back to the start! Hmm

Snapespeare - was it nice though... Grin

I tried this diet last year and it worked BUT I found the breafasts very hard. I mean, I ended up having a slice of ham with a fried egg and it got BORING.
At the moment I am hooked on Fruit n Fibre and don't want to come off it. Grin

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/09/2011 09:32

Hello, Gincognito! Good to see you here.

Sounds like you should read up on The Harcombe Diet if you're regularly suffering from hypos. Her diet is based around dealing with three conditions that she has identified that contribute to weight gain: candida, food intolerances and hypoglycaemia.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 10/09/2011 09:38

I tried getting cashback in a shop yesterday and had the following converstation:
You need to spend more than a fiver. total is 4.36 so you could just buy yourself a little treat. how about some chocolate?
-I don't eat chocolate
What about some sweets then?
-Don't eat those either.
Crisps?
-Nope.
Well, that is just silly. next you are going to tell ne that you don't eat biscuits..
-I'll just go to the cashpoint.

I would KILL for a raspberry and vanilla muffin right now.
My ketostix arrived and I had to pee on one every time I ate something because I wondered if it knocked me out of ketosis. ranged from + to ++++ (not enough water?) even after eating a kebab without the bread.

I need some vegetable ideas because I am getting sixk of meat.
Tonight I am making courgette stuffed with mince, onion and garlic and cooked in tomato sauce, then covered with grated cheese and creme fraiche.. no breakfast yet but have lots of eggs so will probably have an omelette. no lunch ideas yet.

CrosswordAddict · 10/09/2011 11:09

Where do you get ketosticks from ?
Do you need to be in ketosis for the diet to work?

Snapespeare · 10/09/2011 11:23

piste, it was glorious - but i did feel like i didn't want to eat any more IYSWIM, ack on track today... eggs, eggs....

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/09/2011 11:28

my ketostix arrived too!!
Going to use one right now for a laugh although I know I'm not there yet, but I am curious. Haven't POAS for about 13 years, it will be odd Grin

Stick - I will be intertesed to hear more of your ideas as I am not a big fan of meat anyway, and am bored of it too.

CrosswordAddict - mine came from Chemist Direct, but people also recommended ebay. They were about a fiver, I'll have a look now and tell you how many there are!

I was a little naughty and just had five marshmallows, but an hour later the ketostix still say +++..
I need a LC cake recipe, I think. the problem is that I don't like the aftertaste of splenda or other sweeteners... :(

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 11/09/2011 07:38

Thank you for that I am going to try that today, but probably with less splenda - 8 tablespoons!!
I don't usually havr a sweet tooth but I like a little sweet thing to offset all the savoury stuff I eat.

By the way, deep fried courgettes are quite disgusting. Biscuit
