Hello everyone,

I know there are a lot of shred-heads on here already, but many of the current threads are full of people well into the programme. I just started the 30 Day Shred today. I'm 5'11", 258lbs (18st 6lbs Blush) and in dire need of getting fit, strengthening my core and losing some weight.

Has anyone else recently started, or are planning to?

I have, very naughtily, been taking my DH's codeine tablets, he had for his back.

Thanks for the links, I will have a read up when it quietens down at work. The baked beans I have for my spud are reduced salt and sugar. I agree with the season though, its hard to get excited about salad when you just want to eat stodge to keep yourself warm. I might indulge over the weekend and make a large stock pot of winter veg soup and oooo omlettes, i was planning one of those tomorrow with a side salad and maybe a sprinkling of cheddar. You've got my taste buds working again!!

Sorry to hear about your knee Overtired.I have to say that on Level 1 Shred I'm a little dubious with the hands on knees and rotating them around bit.My yoga teacher says that you should only do a straight back and forward with knees as that's the only way the joint is supposed to go.I reckon we need to be gentler on our knees than we think. Not that it helps you much at this point. That's a real blow, but you really are forced to rest as long as it takes.

I am also trying to be careful with carb intake.

Hope you feel better soon from your bug moose

I have to admit to missing shred yesterday, but I had exercised for 2 hours (running and yoga) and couldn't logistically fit it in.Back to it today though (day 6).Some is getting easier but it'll take longer than 10 days to attempt more than just a few full press ups!!!!

Overtiredmum · 23/11/2011 19:25

My knee is feeling slightly better today, manage to stretch it out abit on a walk around Bluewater finishing my chrimbo shopping Grin today, so hoping to pick up the shred from Monday, albeit very cautiously!

Hope everyone else is OK x

moosemama · 23/11/2011 19:38

Lol, we can talk shred on two threads now! Grin

Glad you had a good day and finished your christmas shopping. I've finished all the dc's shopping now except for a few stocking fillers which I'll be getting on Saturday when out with dsis.

I have two small presents for dh, but still haven't bought anyone else anything. We're still not sure whether to make or buy. Did hampers for everyone last year, which went down really well and have had requests for more of the same this year, but am not sure I'm up for all the work that's involved. Too much else going on.

Ds1 was rushed to on-call GP this afternoon with his chest. He took one listen, then rushed us into the nurse's room and put him on a nebuliser. When he listened again afterwards he could hear infection in the bottom of both lungs, so he's back on anti-biotics, although a different type and has to have daily steroids plus the inhaler he was given last week. Sad

GP's still not sure if he is going to turn out to be asthmatic, but seems to think its highly probably. There's an outside chance its all being caused by the chest infection and will clear up as he recovers, but the doctor didn't seem very hopeful.

Poor kid, as if he doesn't already have enough to deal with. Sad

Oh - and back on topic. I still haven't been able to shred. Didn't manage to eat a mouthful for over 24 hours and felt decidedly weak and wobbly. Am feeling a bit better now though, so hoping to get back on track tomorrow.

Overtiredmum · 23/11/2011 19:44

Poor DS, as you say, he has enough to contend with!

Overtiredmum · 28/11/2011 21:05

Where is everyone???

Ok, so knee is much better but still not 100% so I have decided to have another week off, and will then probably jump straight into NMTZ on Monday, and see how it goes. I have a great support for it now, so hoping I can get on with it now.

I started My Fitness Pal last Monday and by Friday I had lost 5 lbs which is amazing, it turns out I wasn't eating enough at all, although am guessing some of this may also be lost muscle.

Hope everyone OK x

moosemama · 29/11/2011 14:40

Sorry Overtired, I have been awol with a horrible virus. Stomach bug cleared up Wednesday and I came down with a horrible man-flu thing overnight. Hmm

I then didn't want to cause a ruck by cancelling shopping with my sister on Saturday, so dosed myself up with cold and flu pills and went anyway, which resulted in two days in bed.

Am feeling much better today, but its gone to my sinuses now so am not up to shredding. Hoping to ease myself back in gently tomorrow with the BFBM kickboxing circuits and see how I feel.

Pleased to hear your knee is improving - very sensible giving it another week to recover though.

Well done on your 5lb loss. Its more likely to be water than muscle, as you will have retained some to help your body heal your knee. Its amazing when you realise you can actually eat more to lose weight isn't it. Grin

My weight has remained stable throughout my bugs, thank goodness, despite my diet being decidedly odd and doing zero exercise.

I really want to get back into it now I know its only been a week - but I can already feel the difference in my muscles and want to be nice and toned again before Christmas. Not to mention I want to hit my Christmas goal weight so I can relax food-wise a little over Christmas weekend. Grin

moosemama · 03/12/2011 20:09

Evening, just thought I'd come and bump the thread.

Hope your fantastic weightloss is continuing Overtired and that your knee is recovering well.

I started working out again on Thursday, just two circuits of BFBM and then a level 1 shred on Friday. Was very relieved it wasn't as hard as I expected it to be. Mad day today and too tired to shred now, so dh and I are planning to do the whole of BFBM tomorrow instead.

Hope everyone else is ok and still managing to fit shredding into all the Christmas madness. Smile

moosemama · 04/12/2011 13:47

Tried to do a whole BFBM with dh today and we both failed. Blush Sad

Everything went silver, my legs started shaking and I nearly fainted after circuit 5 and dh had an asthma attack at the end of circuit 6.

I'm pleased I managed 5 circuits though, as its still more than a shred and a lot more than I have been able to do over the past couple of weeks.

Back to shredding tomorrow. Have decided to cycle the levels like dh does, as I keep having to restart and can't seem to get off level 1. So, I'll be doing a level 2 tomorrow, as did level 1 on Monday, level 3 on Tuesday, then back to 1 on Wednesday.

Hopefully it'll help to kickstart my stalled weightloss, as its looking like I'm not going to hit my Christmas target otherwise. Xmas Sad

Overtiredmum · 06/12/2011 18:53

Greetings Mama! Well not good news here, after resting my knee it seemed to improve but then it flared up again at the weekend, so am back to hobbling around (and thats WITHOUT any exercise!) Think its looking likely that I have torn cartilage in my knee, am heading to the doctors tomorrow, I know he is just going to tell me to rest, at which point I will laugh hysterically at him and ask him if he has ever rested up whilst running around after two kids, les than three weeks before christmas, whilst working fulltime?!!!

Anyhow, am guessing my best course of action is to rest it when I can, and hope that after January I can get back into exercise. My weightloss has stalled, presumably because the injury is still there, knee looks a little puffy, so assuming I may be retaining water, but I feel incredibly fat and my trousers are tight again, all the hard work has gone to waste and I am gutted.

My DH suggested just to try and do the push-ups etc and just standing stuff, but they all still take an element of leg work, and with the kids I can't afford to make it worse. Am totally gutted Xmas Sad

moosemama · 06/12/2011 19:41

Oh no Overtired, that's awful. You poor thing. Sad

The hard work hasn't gone to waste. You'll be amazed at how quickly it comes back and you snap back into shape.

I've just started easing back into it, did a level 2 today expecting to find it really hard, but actually it wasn't. I think having a break from it all has actually helped my stamina.

Just try to allow yourself to enjoy Christmas and we'll both get back into it properly in the New Year - only we'll stick to it when everyone else is giving up on their NY resolutions and be stunners by the time we need to crack out the summer dresses. Grin

I have had some worrying news too, so not sure what the near future holds for me. [overdramatic Moose emoticon] I was told by the neurologist at my initial appointment that she wouldn't see me back for another appointment if the MRI didn't show anything up and there was nothing to worry about. Unfortunately the postie handed me a letter on Saturday morning telling me I have an appointment next Wednesday (14th). So, I have no idea what they found and another week to fret about it. Bit concerned that they are seeing me again so soon. The results were only due in last Wednesday. Sad

Overtiredmum · 06/12/2011 20:14

Am keeping everything crossed for you Mama, please let me know how you get on, but I'll still be on here. x

moosemama · 06/12/2011 20:19

Thanks Overtired - likewise. Don't disappear just because you're not shredding for a while. Smile

Overtiredmum · 07/12/2011 18:13

Doctor has confirmed torn cartilage in my knee. Strictly no exercise for the remainder of this year. I was hoping to just keep up with press-ups etc, but he said strictly no, in case I was to jar or twist it. If no improvement in the new year, he will refer me for a scan.

Booo hooo!

moosemama · 07/12/2011 19:28

Sad So sorry to hear that Overtired.

I suppose, at least now you have it officially, you can stop giving yourself a hard time about not exercising and let yourself enjoy Christmas. Better to follow doctors orders now and be able to get back to it in the new year, than do too much now and regret it later.

moosemama · 01/01/2012 17:22

Hey folks

Just checking in for the new year - but no shredding for me, as am flat on my back after a rather nasty lumbar puncture last Thursday.

Ironically my Ripped in 30 dvd arrived yesterday and dh and I watched it last night - but I am a loooong way off being able to start that. Just watching it hurt like hell! Grin

Anyway, I am going to try and keep the thread going in the vain hope of being able to get back into it soon and hope someone else will be along to keep me company soon.

Overtired - hope you have been able to rest and heal your knee over the holidays. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Smile

bigTillyMint · 02/01/2012 11:05

Hi Shredders!

I just attempted day 1 - OMG! It's hard workBlush

Please tell me it gets easier!

moosemama · 02/01/2012 19:47

Hello bigTillyMint.

Yes, it does get easier, I promise. The first 3 to 4 days are the hardest and then you start to feel empowered.

I watched dh restart shredding yesterday after just a week off and am seriously worried about how hard its going to be for me now! I'm still horizonal at the moment and not expecting to start up again for probably another week - at least. Am really missing it though and lamenting the loss of my hard earned muscle tone. Sad

bigTillyMint · 02/01/2012 20:00

3 to 4 days ShockShockShock

moosemama · 02/01/2012 20:11

'fraid so!

Depends on how fit you are to start with though. Plenty of people who are fitter than me coped much better, but from what I've read online my experience was fairly typical. Personally, I struggled to walk up and downstairs or even sit on the toilet for the first couple of days as I was so stiff and sore afterwards! Blush

It is soooooo worth it though. Honest. Even if you don't lose a lot of pounds, your body shape will totally change. You will get a much smaller waist, flatter abdomen and nicely defined upper arms and your legs will feel toned and powerful. It also just makes you feel so much healthier and stronger in general. I seriously miss it at the moment and am desperate to get back into it.

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2012 08:24

Just done day 2 and despite the stiffness in the fronts of my thighs, I found it a bit easier than day 1 Grin (That could have been because I hadn't been on the treadmill first though!)

So I just repeated the workout - level 1 - that I did yesterday, is that right? Do you keep repeating it?

moosemama · 03/01/2012 15:02

That's right, you stay on each level until you feel ready to move up to the next one. It doesn't have to be strictly ten days on each level, you can do it quicker or slower depending on how easy/hard you find the workouts.

If you only have stiffness in the front of your thighs you are doing a lot better than I was at your stage. It was the backs of my thighs that really hurt for me.

bananarama05 · 04/01/2012 22:16

Any room for a lardy arsed shred newbie?

I've just done day 1, first excercise since I found out I was pg...DD is now 7 months! I can safely say I'm feeling it!

I'm 5'4, a size 16 still squeezing into (and falling out of) 14's. Not sure on weight as I tend to go by my clothes not fitting more than the scales but I've probably crept back up to 13 stone-ish.

I'm rather rubbish at remembering to regularly post on these things but love reading how everyone else is getting on so hope you won't mind if I hang around, even if its just to catch up on the old posts as I've read a little and they've definitely given me a good kick up the arse and god knows I could use the motivation! :)

moosemama · 05/01/2012 09:53

Hello Bananarama, well done for getting started on the shred. Smile

You are most welcome to join us, but be warned, there's not a lot happening on this thread at the moment for various health and injury reasons.

There are a couple of other shred threads that are much more active if you feel like you might need a bit more support. I think a few people have popped in here then left and joined one of the other threads.

I am hoping to restart the shred next week, but it will depend on how my back is doing. Its definitely a bit better today, but still very stiff and sore.

moosemama · 09/01/2012 22:41

Just bumping the thread. Still not shredding, as my back is still not 100%, but feeling much better and hoping to get back to it soon.

Am going to try out my new exercise bike for a few days first and see how I feel before jumping back into the hard stuff! Grin

Hope you are doing ok Overtired? How's your knee now - any better, or are you going to have to have a scan?
