Hello everyone,

I know there are a lot of shred-heads on here already, but many of the current threads are full of people well into the programme. I just started the 30 Day Shred today. I'm 5'11", 258lbs (18st 6lbs Blush) and in dire need of getting fit, strengthening my core and losing some weight.

Has anyone else recently started, or are planning to?

I know. Baby brain! Did the whole thing once, and once only! Am shattered. Will do it tomorrow before zumba Grin

CatPower · 20/08/2011 23:31

Forgive me shreddies for I have sinned, this is the first time I have missed a day. I spent the whole day out shopping for school gear with DS, got home in time to cook dinner, tidied, then plonked on the sofa and thought "hell no, not tonight." I'll get back to it tomorrow.

Can I join? I am going to be Maid of Honour to my sister in November. Have chosen the dress but need to lose a good 8-10 lbs to get into the 14 and not the 16! Could also do with toning up as am very wobbly.

Did level one on Friday, didn't have time yesterday but by god I hurt....I know I have to push on through and just do it again today but I am not looking forward to it. Going to walk the dog for three miles which should warm up the muscles a bit before hand....

VoldemortsNipple · 21/08/2011 10:09

Thanks hairypotter I've ordered the dvd from amazon and it will be here tomorrow. I will use tins for a couple of days until I can piuck up some proper weights.

I've got the biggest loser game on kinect which I love. I have Bob as my trainer though. I'm too much of a wuss to have Gillian, I think I'm in for a rude awakening. The problem with the kinect is that it scans your body to recognise you. If the lighting is wrong, it doesn't always pick me up which is really annoying if I get up early to do my exercises before work. Hopefully this should be less time consuming.

hairypotter · 21/08/2011 22:24

L1D5 done. Felt like my poor arms were going to drop off, even circuit 1 cardio was a effort tonight. Still, another day done.

I'm really focusing on sticking to doing it every day and I'm finding that posting here when I've completed it helps me get off the couch so I hope no one minds me cluttering up the thread Smile

CatPower · 22/08/2011 01:56

Hairy, I need you to keep posting, you're my inspiration!

I've had a fairly slack couple of days - DS starts school on Tuesday so we've been taking him to cinema/museum etc as treats before school starts, so my shredding has fallen to the wayside. I am certain I'll start again fine on Tuesday, it'll be part of my daily routine - home from dropping him at school, straight into Shred. I hope you all don't think badly of me!

I've done day 2. Am now away for a couple of days so will resume when back on thurs. Keep going everyone!

WeShouldOpenABar · 22/08/2011 10:52

the last time i did shred i found it impossible to lose weight , i lost inches but quite frankly until im at my goal weight i want to see the results on the scales, anyone else have the same problem?
also one move in circuit 3 actually left me unable to do any exercise for about a month after my knees just gave up!

hairypotter · 22/08/2011 12:32

I found that too, my clothes felt looser but my weight didn't move much. I don't weight myself anymore but try to eat better without really dieting.

L1D6 completed. Kids at school so I was able to get it over with early instead of 10pm as usual. Will my arms ever stop hurting??

I keep reminding myself 'it's only 20 mins' when I can't be arsed moving. Ive got just over 3 weeks before I go on holiday and I know I'll regret it if I don't tone up a bit more. Some clothes fit but would be more comfortable if I lost a bit more lard Grin

Good luck to all my fellow shreddies this week.

VoldemortsNipple · 22/08/2011 18:32

DVD arrived today. I have just completed Level one. I must admit it wasn't as hard as I thorght but only because I've had practice doing some of the exercises on the Biggest Loser on the kinect.

That game is the most humiliating exercise thing you can do. It portrays you as a big fat green jelly baby in the corner of the screen and Bob and Jillian know when your slacking!

Still, my legs are wobbling. Doing squats and weights at the same time is torture as is having no little water breaks. (bob used to give me loads of water breaks)

On the up side, only 29 days to go!

hairypotter · 23/08/2011 15:02

Is the biggest loser game good then volde? Might have a look for it, does it come for the wii? I don't have an xbox.

I know why you mean about water breaks, I just try and have a quick slurp between circuits.

L1D7 has been done. Strength bits still a bit hard on my arms but cardio and abs are fine. L2 is looming though...

VoldemortsNipple · 23/08/2011 18:58

The Biggest Loser for wii is only £10.12 at Amazon I would definatly reccommend it. Its similar to 30 day shred in the way that no execise lasts more than a minute. The good thing is that it changes the routines daily so you dont get bored or know whats coming next, and it gives you water breaks every five minutes or so grin. It has different programmes to target the areas you prefare,or you can do an all body programme. You can also set it for your fitness level.

L1D2 completed this morning before work, followed by a 20 minute bike ride into work. I must admit, if I stop moving for any length of time, I can feel my body begin to seize up. I'm not looking forward to getting up and execising in the morning.

I used bags of 1kg rice today as weights. They seem like a good weight to work with and easier to hold, but I must invest in proper hand weights.

The worst exercise so far has to be the lunges with weights. That is pure torture.

I took all my measurments yesterday so I can see how many inches I have lost at the end.

moosemama · 23/08/2011 20:58

Hello, is it too late for me to join?

Dh and started the shred on Sunday, so we are now on level 1, day 3.

We are both very unfit, although dh isn't really overweight. I on the other hand have lost 23lbs since June 16th using My Fitness Pal, have just over another two stone to go and have been trying to build up my fitness level by walking after a long period of illness running from Autumn last year to May this year.

I found the first day hard, in fact everything went silver at one point and I thought I was going to pass out, but I think that was because I got up early and did it before breakfast.

As voldemort said, if I'm still for too long my muscles seem to seize up and when I wake in the morning I feel like one great big knotted muscle, but it does ease of once I get moving - although I look quite silly going up and downstairs at the moment. Blush The worst for me has been my calf muscles, they seem to hurt pretty much all of the time. I think its the bicep curl and dips that's causing it.

I did find it easier to get through the whole thing without any of the 5 second breathers she allows today, but ran out of steam a bit on the cycle crunches at the end.

I also had someone comment on my biceps earlier today and when I checked I was gobsmacked to find I'm actually starting to develop some arm definition after just three workouts - which is amazing. Grin

I've heard its supposed to get a bit easier and less painful by days 5/6, so am holding out for that now.

Not sure if I'm going to stick to the 10 days for each level, or wait until I am finding each level easy-ish before moving on - what is everyone else planning to do.

Oh - and I read on another board that Jillian doesn't recommend working out 7 days a week and on her other dvds specifically says not to but to take at least one day a week of for recovery. Is everyone else intending to do it 7 days a week or are you thinking of taking a day off?

Overtiredmum · 23/08/2011 21:41

Hi, can I join you all?

Just ordered my Shred DVD, am currently also doing Zumba at home, which I love, but need something more intense. I am 37, and currently 12st and 5lb, and a very snug size 14!

moosemama · 24/08/2011 11:02

Level 1, day 4 done and am relieved to report I found it much easier this morning. I also found I wasn't stiff when I woke up and after completing the workout this morning my legs feel so much better than they have on the other days, just a bit of pain in my calves.

Decided to eat a handful of nuts and drink a glass of water before I started this morning and I don't know if that helped, but I'm going to stick with it, as I definitely found I had more stamina today.

Had a look at that Insanity link! Shock I don't think I would ever be capable of doing that one - it looks seriously scary.

hairypotter · 24/08/2011 19:12

Hello everyone. Thanks for the link volde it looks good, I might treat myself to it. I already have Zumba for the wii gathering dust though, I end up buying all that stuff then losing interest before moving on to my next fad.

Hello to moose and overtired glad you are finding it easier. I was using my fitness pal back in the spring and I lost around 18lbs. Gave up at the start of the summer and just did more exercise along with sensible eating and have lost about another 10lbs.

I know that your are probably not supposed to shred everyday, but I missed a few weeks of exercise and I don't have long to go before my hols so I am going to try and do it every day until I go. It's not something I would normally do though.

Have done L1D8 now, still awful in places but getting better I suppose. Dreading L2 because I really hate plank and v lifts are just plain evil. Grin

moosemama · 24/08/2011 19:58

I find MFP really useful for planning what I'm going to eat each day. I was easily dropping 2lbs a week, but it has stalled this week, which is probably down to building muscle doing the shred. I've measured myself though, so am hoping to at least see inch loss if the scales don't shift for a couple of weeks.

I'm finding it tough to eat back my exercise calories to be honest - although I have read all the science and understand why I need to. I am down tonight by almost exactly the number of calories I've earned doing exercise and I can't think of anything else to eat that would be healthy calorie choices. Hmm

It doesn't help that I'm vegetarian, so its a choice of either a mountain of super healthy fruit/veg or one of the veggie protein sources that mostly high in fat.

VoldemortsNipple · 24/08/2011 21:48

Good evening everybody. I confess to only doing half a shred today. 8am I began my workout and got jumping jacks on the second set of cardio when workmen knocked on my door to do repairs. By the time they had gone it was time for work.

I'm planning on trying for every day moosemama because I know there will be days that I won't have time. If I said I was having Sunday off and then didn't have time Monday, is be annoyed.

moosemama · 25/08/2011 14:33

Day 5 seemed easier again - but I am gutted because I got on the scales and I'm up 2lbs. I've read a lot about this happening with the 30DS, but was praying it wouldn't happen to me.

From what I have read, its hopefully down to the muscles keeping hold of water while they are trying to repair and recover from the shred and should come off again over the next couple of weeks.

All the same, this week is the first week I haven't met my target since June 16th and it doesn't feel very nice. [sad[

CatPower · 25/08/2011 18:41

I'm not allowed to shred! :( I've been waiting for almost a year for a big hip operation and I've finally had word it's happening in a few weeks. Told my GP about doing 30DS and she nearly keeled over in horror. Jumping jacks are bad news for dodgy hips! Gutted I can't continue, but I really need to get this operation over and done with. Three months on crutches should help get rid of the ol' bingo wings anyway!

Hello! I am back on the shred, started yesterday. Have done 2 weeks of shred before and did see results, particularly in my jelly belly but fell off the wagon.

It was harder yesterday than I remember but still its a step in the right direction!

moosemama · 25/08/2011 19:27

CatPower - can vouch for the crutches being good for the arms. I was on crutches from June to the end of September last year - my arms have never looked better. Mind you, they've gone all to pot again since then. Blush

hairypotter · 25/08/2011 22:54

hairypotter · 25/08/2011 22:56

Sorry to hear you can't shred cat thats a pain in the bum. Hope you op goes well.

moosemama · 25/08/2011 23:09

Hairypotter, have you lost any weight at all whilst doing it?
