Hello everyone,

I know there are a lot of shred-heads on here already, but many of the current threads are full of people well into the programme. I just started the 30 Day Shred today. I'm 5'11", 258lbs (18st 6lbs Blush) and in dire need of getting fit, strengthening my core and losing some weight.

Has anyone else recently started, or are planning to?

Well done nicnac, you've done it! Grin

Fantastic inch loss as well, congratulations! Grin

Well done for not giving into take-away temptation as well, those things are highly addictive.

I on the other hand, have just eaten a Skinny Cow Choc Brownie, ice-cream on a stick. Ds2 and dd are having a film night treat and both had Ben and Jerry's mini tubs, milk shake and popcorn - so I made sure there was a less calorific alternative in the house for me. First bit of chocolate I've had since June and to be honest, I didn't enjoy it. Sad

What makes it worse, is that I haven't had time to work out today. Am still well under my calories, fat and carbs for the day though, so its not too bad a slip, I suppose.

I measured my waist again yesterday and discovered I am under 30" for the first time in about 20 years! Shock Great motivation to keep it up.

Treeleaf · 31/10/2011 21:14

Thanks so much for the low down Moosemama. Blimey it sounds like serious stuff! I have had virtuously no exercise for years (since having DC1 of course) so sounds a bit scary... On the other hand, maybe it's just the kick up the butt i need. I'll check out the link and see whether i think i'm up to it...

moosemama · 31/10/2011 21:48

You're welcome Treeleaf.

If it helps, I started from a point of almost zero fitness after six months of illness. All I did in the weeks running up to starting it was walking at a good steady pace for an hour or so a day.

It is tough, no doubt about it, but you can work your way into it and its amazing how quickly you start to feel stronger and fitter.

Pollykitten · 31/10/2011 21:53

Can one shred whilst diffed up? I'm an ex-shreddee and had several weeks off for health reasons but would love to do it again - anyone else shred whilst pg?

moosemama · 31/10/2011 22:15

I'm not sure I would do it while pregnant personally. I just feel its a bit too intense.

From a quick google, most people seem to say it may be ok if you are used to consistently doing high-intensity workouts on a regular basis, but that you should stick to the beginner moves and avoid the jumping/plyometrics and abs stuff.

Could you maybe ask your midwife or GP's advice about it?

nicnacinoonoo · 01/11/2011 07:59

thanks moosemama

treeleaf I have never done any type of work out before starting the shred and I love it. I had a lot of activities as a child (swimming, dancing etc) but since giving them up as a teen I've never even entered a gym or done anything like this before. It's definitely worth a try as it gets quite addictive, which I think is a good thing. It is very hard at first though, but you get through it.

Greetings I have returned, after a manic weekend which was great! Party went really well, DH better, although I have to confess I have not shredded since last Wednesday - but my joints are screaming at me to do it. I won't be doing any this week, as I have bruised the bone in my arm and I'm not able to use it much, but am hoping that a week resting it and I will be back fitting fit on Monday.

x

moosemama · 01/11/2011 19:03

Hellooo Overtired.

Really glad the party went well and your dh is better, but sorry to hear about your arm. Have you had it checked to make sure its not fractured?

I missed my workout on Sunday because things were so hectic at home and I had stacks left to do on ds1's statutory assessment request.

Am back on track now, although only did two circuits of BFBM today - both kickboxing circuits, am loving those the most.

Starting level 2 again on Saturday and hoping to keep doing at least two, if not three BFBM circuits every day as well.

Thinking about it, I might try and do the whole BFBM over the weekend again - it was totally exhausting on top of a shred, but in a good way! Grin

moosemama · 02/11/2011 16:24

Another level 1 and 3 circuits of BFBM done today.

Am having a day out with Mum and dd tomorrow, shopping and lunch and so I really want to get a workout in before we go, so that I don't have to stress about lunch. We are going out fairly early though, so I'm not sure if I'll manage it. I hate to eat first and work it off later though, as I'm always worried I'll be too tired and not do it.

Desperately need to go though. I've only left the house for school-run purposes since Blackpool, Monday before last! Shock

nicnacinoonoo · 02/11/2011 18:02

Well I tried out 6 week 6 pack for the first time this morning and I had to take loads of breaks Sad. It's really fast. Hopefully when I get more used to it and know what is coming next it'll be easier.

Going to try and do the shred from level 1 again in the evenings too. I've done it today and I quite enjoy it now I know it so well, and I feel like I can do it all more confidently apart from the push ups. I managed 5 today before falling flat on my face! Blush

nicnacinoonoo · 02/11/2011 18:03

Have a nice day out tomorrow moosemama

moosemama · 02/11/2011 18:15

You and me both nicnac, I still can't do the push-ups effectively. Still doing Anita for them and bizarrely can do less now than when I did level 1 last time round. Confused I've landed on my face a few times as well. Blush Grin

Well done on getting stuck into the 6 week 6 pack. I've heard its pretty tough.

Overtiredmum · 02/11/2011 19:14

Greetings! I managed Level 3 today, although had to be careful with my arm. Treated myself today to No More Trouble Zones and have pre-ordered Ripped in 30, so looking forward to both of them.

Plan to 30DS Level 3 til Sunday, then restart Level 1 and work my way through, then start NMTZ until I Ripped comes out!

Had a lovely day with DD today, nearly finished my Chrimbo shopping!

Have a lovely day tomorrow Mama, look forward to hearing all about it.

moosemama · 02/11/2011 19:34

Sounds like a plan Overtired.

Nearly finished your Christmas shopping! Envy I am usually in the same position by this time of year, but nothing seems to be coming together right this year. I joined the poncetastic Christmas thread a few weeks ago when I was feeling optimistic, but it now seems I am going to have to settle for much less than poncetastic. Harrumph!

Thanks for the good wishes about tomorrow guys. Honestly, how sad is my life that a trip to the local shopping centre is big news. Blush

Overtiredmum · 02/11/2011 20:02

Not at all Mama, think thats probably the case for most of us! The highlight of my month will be a christening on Sunday, then knuckling down til chrimbo!

I am ahead of myself for Chrimbo this year, the snow really caught me unawares last year, ordered most things from Amazon etc, so was determined not to be this year, just went out when I had some spare cash (which doesn't happen often!!), although haven't gone mad this year. We are only buying for children, most bits I either got in Tesco or Sainsburys toy events in the last couple of weeks, bits from Amazon/Ebay and the rest will be little stocking fillers that I will pick up as and when I see them.

Overtiredmum · 03/11/2011 18:15

Every bone in my body hurts today and I just want to cry at everything, so guessing my TOTM will be early again this month!! I shredded anyway in the hope that it would make me feel better, but really struggled and probably only put about 75% in to it, so probably wasted my time. Day off tomorrow as its my busy day (if my poor old body allows!) and will pick it up again Saturday morning. No More Trouble Zones has been despatched so hoping I may have it for Monday morning - might be the boost I need to get back in to it. Heres hoping!!

moosemama · 03/11/2011 19:18

Overtired, we seem to be synchronising schedules. I've been the same this week and my monthly friend could appear any time from now to the 10th. Hmm

Well done for shredding when you feel like that. I managed to miss mine, as Mum decided she wanted to go out early and I only got back in time to run up to the school to get ds2, then had to go up there again 45 minutes later to watch ds1's cricket match and collect him afterwards.

The only positive is that I managed to get a really nice healthy salad for lunch, so at least I didn't break my diet and miss my workout.

I really should do it now, but am just too tired.

Oh, oh - but I do have another positive thing to say. I was desperate for something to wear to town today, so looked in the cupboard where I store all the clothes that don't fit. Right at the bottom I found a pair of jeans that my SIL bought at the Next Staff Shop and gave to me years ago. They are a size 14 and either skinny or very slim fit straight - not sure, don't know much about jeans. I have only tried them on a couple of times, when I'd lost weight after having dd and they've never fitted, even then - at my slimmest - my legs looked like two fat squished sausages in them. Today however, they no only fitted, but I spent the whole day tightening my belt because they were falling down! Shock Grin

Overtiredmum · 03/11/2011 19:32

Excellent well done Mama, thats amazing! Shows it does work. I think I am going to diet, although I don't actually eat that much, think mine is probably too much alcohol at the weekends!! I feel I could do with a good detox between now and Chrimbo, so will do that from Monday I think too x

moosemama · 03/11/2011 20:17

You might not be eating enough, especially now you are doing intensive workouts, as your body will need plenty of good quality additional fuel to power you through them.

If you don't each much, it will start using lean tissue (ie muscle) as fuel, so you are effectively sabotaging yourself, as the less muscle you have the slower you burn calories - its a viscious cycle.

Overtiredmum · 07/11/2011 18:24

Greetings, thanks Mama. I pulled out my WW books today, so am doing that. I intend to eat all my points during the course of the day but save my exercise points for the weekend, so hopefully that will help.

But Oh my god!! Why did I think going back to L1 would be easy??? Well, it was definitely easier than the first time I did it, but still felt it. Only part I did Anita was the push ups, really struggled with them, did one rep Natalie, then caved and did the second rep Anita. My new NMTZ arrived over the weekend, but not had chance to look at it yet. My aim is to stay on Shred for the next three weeks, a week at each level, then start NMTZ on 28th November for the month up until Ripped arrives!!

How is everyone else getting on. Hope all OK Mama, most unusual to see you haven't updated over the weekend. x

moosemama · 07/11/2011 18:41

Overtired, I was just thinking the same thing about level 2.

I restarted it this morning and nearly cried because it was so much harder than I expected it to be. It doesn't help that I'm existing on very little sleep and my period is due any second, but honestly, I felt so weak and pathetic. I did the whole of BFBM with dh on Saturday and kicked its ass rather than the other way round, then this. Confused

I haven't been on MN that much over the past few days, am a bit down really - probably just a combination of pmt and the time of year though.

Overtiredmum · 07/11/2011 19:19

I know what you mean Mama, I always get a bit down this time of year, but feel free to have a rant here if you need to! xx

moosemama · 07/11/2011 19:41

Thanks, nothing to rant about really - I'm just a stroppy mare!

Historically I would have holed up on the sofa with a stack of chocolate and chomped my way through the blues - not really an option this time though.

I did give in and eat a skinny cow ice cream/lolly thing when dh was out on Saturday night - it was horrible.

Overtiredmum · 07/11/2011 21:20

Hmmm never been a fan of them myself, always thought they tasted sort of powdery.

I treated the kids to a box of mint matchmakers today and really wished I hadn't! Discovered they are 1.5 points for 2 sticks on WW, great I thought, but now I wish I hadn't discovered that..... will need to ask DH to hide the box before I get home from work. If there is any left that is!! He makes me sick, he eats/drinks what he wants and never puts on weight. i so much as look as a square of chocolate and I can feel my hips expanding......
