30 Day Shred - New Starts

Hello everyone,

I know there are a lot of shred-heads on here already, but many of the current threads are full of people well into the programme. I just started the 30 Day Shred today. I'm 5'11", 258lbs (18st 6lbs Blush) and in dire need of getting fit, strengthening my core and losing some weight.

Has anyone else recently started, or are planning to?

Those patio heaters are great - my sil has one. The only thing is all the smokers tend to hog it at her parties.

Overtiredmum · 22/10/2011 12:17

I am expecting the same to be honest, although think there will only be 2 smokers out of all the guests, not won't be too bad!

Was forced to have a day off shredding today as I overslept and am now at work until 6pm, so will have to pick it up again tomorrow. Am not too disappointed though, to be honest my legs are killing me today!

Looks a lovely day out though - booo hooo!

nicnacinoonoo · 23/10/2011 12:55

I think I like level 3 best as I can really feel it working my abs. I'm on day 3 now and I have just noticed in these past couple of days that I am looking a lot trimmer around my love handles. Really pleased. This morning I managed to do everything in circuit 1 Natalie as well. Did most of circuit 2 Natalie except the jumping lunges argh! Circuit 3 did Anita for the travelling push ups, Natalie for the first set of the other strength moves and then Anita for the second. I'm all Anita for circuit 3 cardio though unfortunately, but did manage Natalie for the ab exercises at the end, so I was quite chuffed with myself all in all. I think I am going to do another one later today, I can see myself getting a bit addicted to level 3, even though I find it really hard (and those superman things make me feel a bit sick sometimes) I can really feel it working, so it spurs me on.

How is everyone else doing? I'm thinking of trying 6 week 6 pack next. Then the ripped in 30.

Overtiredmum · 23/10/2011 13:42

Well, its Sunday, I am working AND I am hungover Sad Why do I do this to myself?? Wasn't that I particularly drank loads, just didn't eat very much.

Was hoping to be up and about early so I could shred before work, but couldn't drag myself out of bed for love nor money this morning, so thats 2 days off for me. Have definitely missed doing it though, and I agree Nicnac, Level 3 is slightly addictive - I love it! Will be back to it tomorrow morning. Morning is best time for me to shred, as it gives me lots of energy. Have only started showing results since Level 3, but now I am, it encourages you to keep going.

Note to self: NO WINE TONIGHT!!

Overtiredmum · 23/10/2011 14:27

Wow, Ripped in 30 looks insane!

moosemama · 23/10/2011 19:56

Hello all

Nicnac, sounds like you are going great guns. Its odd how addictive level 3 is isn't it, as its by no means easy.

Overtired, I ended up with two days off as well. I was so exhausted yesterday that I pretty much spent the whole day curled up in a ball on the sofa. I was so cross with myself for missing two days and convinced I would wake up a big flabby blob this morning! Grin

Fortunately, two days rest helped a lot and dh and I did the whole of BFBM together this morning. He found it really tough going, which secretly made me feel a little bit pleased. I know that makes me sound awful Blush but I found out this week that he's lost over a stone since we started shredding, without adjusting his diet even a little bit. Hmm Angry So it was a relief to see that at least I am a bit fitter than him, even if he now weighs a stone less than me! Shock

Went to Ikea this afternoon to get some of their soft play food baskets for dd for christmas and am now back to feeling exhausted and grotty. Mind you, I know I haven't eaten anywhere near enough today and still haven't had my evening meal, so maybe I'll feel better after that.

Probably won't get to work out tomorrow, as we are off to Blackpool Illuminations with the dcs for the day. I have heard they're a bit disappointing this year, but we like to go back up there, as we were so happy when we lived in Lancashire (ds1 was born up there) and its nice to revisit happy places. The dogs will get a huge run on the beach, so they'll be happy and I'll get some exercise in as well.

moosemama · 23/10/2011 19:57

Overtired, I agree, Ripped in 30 does look a bit mad, but in a good way! Grin

Can't wait for my copy to arrive, but its not released in the UK until 27 December.

nicnacinoonoo · 24/10/2011 09:27

I live down the road from Blackpool moosemama

Done Level 3 day 4 today and didn't manage all the mountain climbers this time Sad but I'm taking ds ice skating later so that will be extra exercise for me anyway.

moosemama · 25/10/2011 12:03

Do you nicnac? If I'd read that before we went I would have waved to you. Grin

We used to live in Burnley and were going to move to Lytham until ds1 put in an appearance and we decided to move back down to the Midlands to be closer to family support. We used to go to dog club in Lytham every Friday and run the dogs on the beach every Sunday.

Can't believe how long it took to get through the lights. We were nose to tail, moving at a snail's pace from 7.00 until 9.45 pm! Shock

Poor old dd fell asleep after the first hour. She was exhausted from an hour of gallumphing on the beach with the dogs, bless her.

We didn't get home until 1.00 am, but fortunately the dcs slept all the way back and went straight into their beds.

I am exhausted today though. Really ought to get back to the shred, but not sure I'm going to manage it being this tired.

Overtiredmum · 25/10/2011 18:20

Had a nightmare few days. DH had an accident at work last week and his back was getting progressively worse. I managed to get an osteopath out to him last night, but that meant I had to take a night off. He is improving today, which is great, although I think he should stay home tomorrow, he is adamant he needs to go in, as he isn't getting paid. So frustrating.

Well I am up-to-date with shredding - did D12 of L3 today. With DH home, it was the first time he has seen both the DVD and me doing it, and he was shocked.

Busy few days coming up with trying to get sorted for the party, especially having DH home yesterday and today, has really thrown my routine out, especially having to keep sitting with him doing his exercises and running to and fro with his cold treatment. DS is off to footie school tomorrow for the next 3 days, he is so excited. DD is off to soft play both tomorrow morning and Thursday morning, so that will give me chance to catch up, hopefully!

Thankfully, my last night in work tonight, so come 11pm, I'll be off til next Monday!

I am definitely going to be pre-ordering my Ripped in 30! If I can manage the 30 Day Shred, I'm going to give it a go!!

moosemama · 25/10/2011 19:20

Sorry to hear about your dh, Overtired. I hope he's up and around again soon.

Well done with getting up to date with your shred. Dh persuaded me to wait for him to come home tonight and we'd work out together, so we're both going to do a level 1 after the dcs are all in bed. Not sure I feel up to it to be honest, but at the same time, I'm sick of missing workouts and worried I'm going to slip right back.

I'm feeling a bit flat to be honest and somehow going away for the day yesterday seems to have compounded it. Spoke to dh at lunchtime and we've decided we need to take things in hand and try to get some things done, as we seem to be running around in ever decreasing circles with everything at the moment.

The plan is now to decorate both dd's and our bedrooms before Christmas. Ours still has bare plaster where the old boiler was removed a couple of years ago. Its awful and I try to avoid going in there except to sleep as a result. It would make my christmas if we could decorate it all nicely before then. Dd is still in with us as well, as we have consistently failed to convert what was the study into a nice room for her. Daft thing is, I bought some beautiful Laura Ashley wallpaper and paint about a year and a half ago - we just haven't got around to doign it. Two and a half years old and still in with us! Blush

Of course there's all the usual stuff to do at the moment as well, ds1's statement request is still bubbling away, there's Christmas to organise (complicated by the fact we are making our own gifts again this year) and then dd's birthday.

Can't seem to get inspired to get anything done at the moment though and usually I'd relish getting my hands on any of those projects.

Overtiredmum · 25/10/2011 19:33

Bless you, I usually use a wet lettuce, I hate kippers Grin

You sound very much like me, when I decide to do something I want it done there and then, when I can't, it drives me mad. At least everything is moving in the right direction for you all, although it may not feel like it sometimes.

God, I have to be up at 6am tomorrow, as DH has decided to try and go to work, but he's such a kid, if I don't get up with him I know he'll try to not do his exercise and the osteopath has warned him he needs to stretch his back out before and after, which means I'll have to get up with him to make sure he does it, then to give him a cold treatment. But at least if I'm up and about, and the kids are still in bed, I'll get time to do a shred without the usual disruptions. Today, I had to restart the shred 3 times, no less! The first time I started it, the DVD got stuck, so I cleaned it and put it back and had to start from the very beginning, just got started again and the Asda man turned up with the booze delivery for Saturday, so I had to deal with that, restarted again for my lovely mum to phone - a 20 minute work-out took an hour - very frustrating!

nicnacinoonoo · 26/10/2011 09:30

We live in Fleetwood, the end of the line. Grin

Struggling to get myself motivated to do my dvd this morning, need to get dd down for a nap first but she's happy toddling about at the moment so don't want to disrupt her. We've just taken her dummy away 2 nights ago so I don't have the ease of giving her that to get her to drop off anymore.

Sorry about you dh overtired and that sounds so annoying having to keep starting the dvd over and over, I would have been very stressed by that point.

moosemama · 26/10/2011 16:52

Didn't work out last night in the end, but have done a level 1 shred (all Natalie except the push ups, as I'm still being very cautious my shoulder) and a couple of circuits of BFBM this afternoon, so am hopefully getting back on track.

Hope you managed to get motivated and workout nicnac.

Ds1 is ill (manflu at the age of 9! [shock) and kept the whole house awake pretty much all night last night, so I'm definitely not feeling energised, but I do feel better for having done a workout. (Note to self, you feel better after you've done a workout, even if you reeeeaally don't want to do it!) Grin

Hope your dh is ok Overtired and you managed to get an uninterrupted in workout today.

nicnacinoonoo · 26/10/2011 17:34

I did it, although I did more Anita than usual Sad. Going to try and fit either a level 1 or 20 mins on my exercise bike in tonight as I've just had a really big tea. I couldn't help it, we tried out those new family friendly mild enchiladas and they were gorgeous. Going to have to be really good tomorrow to make up for it. I seem to find myself saying that a lot at the moment though!

moosemama · 26/10/2011 17:46

Well done for doing it even though you really didn't feel like it nicnac.

moosemama · 27/10/2011 12:39

Phew, just did a level 1 shred and 3 circuits of BFBM (both kickboxing circuits, plus one which is horrible and has lots of plyometrics in it). Ds2 was supposed to being my workout buddy, but he bailed after the warm-up! Kids eh?

My body is water grabbing again though, which is frustrating to say the least - I gained a pound and a half overnight! Hmm I do know it will all come off again and it always happens when I switch my workouts about, but still, its not exactly motivational. Hmm

nicnacinoonoo · 27/10/2011 17:32

I did a level 1 this afternoon as well as a level 3 this morning. I still hate the mountain climbers in level 3. But I was so pleased that i can now do all the side lunges with shoulder raise in level 1 with both my weights, where as i was having to just hold onto one when i did all of level one before.

Sorry about your gain moosemama hope it comes off asap for you.

I have ordered my 6 week 6 pack dvd to get on with next and I am going to try going through the shred again as well, but could be being a bit over ambitious there. Grin

moosemama · 27/10/2011 17:51

Blimey nicnac, you're keen! Grin Two shreds in a day is no mean feat, well done!

Those side lunges with a shoulder raise are dh's nemesis - he hates them with a vengeance. Odd thing about my dh really, he doesn't bend in pretty much any direction. I have honestly never met anyone so inflexible.

I'm quite pleased with how much easier I'm finding level 1 now (aside from the push ups that is). I'm doing all Natalie except the push ups and then finding I need to follow it up with some circuits from BFBM because I don't feel like I've done enough, iyswim.

I've heard 6 week 6 pack is pretty tough, but then all JM's dvds are. I am both looking forward to and fearing n equal measure the arrival of my Ripped in 30 DVD in December.

I should report that after doing all that kickboxing and plyometrics yesterday and today I have an extremely sore bottom and my thighs are killing me. At least I know where all that excess water has gone though, its hanging around to heal my poor rear end! Grin

moosemama · 28/10/2011 18:22

Another level 1 Natalie and 3 circuits of BFBM today.

It was actually a relief, as it loosened up my poor aching muscles from yesterday. I was almost back to how I was at the start of my first round of shred last night - walking in a very odd way and avoiding going up and down the stairs too much! Blush

Its all the kickboxing moves, they really work your bum! Grin

moosemama · 29/10/2011 12:05

Dh has challenged me to do a level 1 shred plus the full 40 min BFBM workout with him today. He is just plain evil, no other word for it.

I think he just wants to see me suffer! Grin Funny thing is, he was a big sweaty heap with jelly legs after just doing BFBM last weekend, so the joke could well be on him. Wink

I will report back later and let you know if I survived.

moosemama · 30/10/2011 11:14

Well, dh lived to regret yesterday's challenge - but only just. Grin

We did a level 1 shred, then all but one of the seven circuits of BFBM. We didn't do circuit 6, because it has a lot of moves in it that aggravate dh's bad knee. He was sooo stiff afterwards though and absolutely exhausted. He has flatly refused a rematch today - I think because I got through it a lot more easily than he did.

He has also pronounced me completely insane for doing a shred level plus 3 circuits of BFBM on a daily basis, although I did explain that I need to keep upping my workout if I'm going to hit my target weight, as it gets harder and harder to lose weight as you get closer to your target.

Treeleaf · 31/10/2011 01:20

Excuse me for butting in, but what is this shredding thing you're all talking about...?

moosemama · 31/10/2011 10:52

Its a workout video by Jillian Michaels, based around three six minute circuits, with 3 minutes of strenght/resistance, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs in each. Its pretty tough if you are not used to working out regularly, but there are modifications for beginners, so you can work yourself into the more advanced moves.

Personally I like it because its not dancey/choreographed or bouncey like many workout dvds and the short blasts of cardio, combined with resistance work really work to change your body shape quickly.

You can view a clip of it here but its cheap to buy on Amazon.

I started the 30 Day Shred back at the end of August for the first time and am now a Jillian Michaels addict. I have also bought her Banish Fat Boost Metabolism dvd, which is a killer to do all the way through, as it has 7 circuits in all and have her Ripped in 30 one on pre-order. Blush [sucker for punishment emoticon] Grin

nicnacinoonoo · 31/10/2011 12:29

well done moosemama

Well I did day 10 of level 3 today. My 6 week 6 pack dvd hasn't come yet though so I am going to carry on with the shred until it does.

Over all I have lost 4cm off my waist, 3cm off my love handles, 3cm off my hips and 1cm off my thighs. I am not very big to begin with so really pleased with the results but definitely want to carry on.

Had a really, really bad eating day on Saturday and had way to much of the buffet at a Halloween party, not to mention loads of cake etc. Going to try really hard with my food this week to make up for it as I am still stuck at the same weight. These last few pounds are being very stubborn. At least I didn't get a take away when I was hungover yesterday though which I would not have been able to resist in the past. It has been a month and a half since I have had a take away, which I am really proud of as I was very much an addict before.
