30 Day Shred - New Starts

Hello everyone,

I know there are a lot of shred-heads on here already, but many of the current threads are full of people well into the programme. I just started the 30 Day Shred today. I'm 5'11", 258lbs (18st 6lbs Blush) and in dire need of getting fit, strengthening my core and losing some weight.

Has anyone else recently started, or are planning to?

Hi Cat

I'm planning to start doing the Shred DVD very soon.

I'm already on Weightwatchers and have lost almost 2 stone so far. I'm going to gym/classes around 3 times a week, but wanted to do a bit extra at home.

Is the 30 day shred a diet program too, or just the exercise? I don't know too much about it tbh, just that the DVD is hard work (which is what I'm looking for!)

CatPower · 15/08/2011 17:39

As far as I know it's just an exercise DVD - that's all I have anyway. I did level 1 this afternoon and feel both amazing and utterly broken all at once!

I'm in if you don't mind?

Starting tomorrow as up with crazy legs from 4.50 this morning.

Half a stone to lose and doing a bit of low carbing but need to tone up too.

Plan to try c25k and alternate with shred if I can - getting over a broken toe.

I'll be back tomorrow - off to bed.

Ps - crazy legs is DS who was kicking the crap out of his cot! Whoever said that a baby always moves down hadn't met crazy legs.

ComradeJing · 16/08/2011 09:39

I'm in! Planning on starting tomorrow. I'm 5'5 and 65kg with a goal weigh of 55.

CatPower · 16/08/2011 11:15

Hello all. :) I'm aching this morning after doing level 1 yesterday, but looking forward to breaking through the pain today. I'm going to do todays workout this afternoon when kiddo (doesn't start school until next Tuesday) is busying himself with toys and DP (works from home) is, uh, working.

I'm trying to follow a low-carb diet, although I have just had a bowl of Alpen Blush, but I think if I can just continue to avoid bread, pasta, white rice and potatoes I should make a bit of a difference to my weight.

The other plan is that if WHEN I complete 30DS, I'll move on to the . My friend has the DVDs and has promised to send them to me once we've both completed 30DS.

Day two done! Circuit one felt awful, but two and three flew by. Quite achy now though, so going to treat myself to a warm bath and a book. Hope you're alright.

I've been lazy and haven't started yet. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow! Have done an hour with the local PT though (v v cheap as attached to the compound gym) yesterday and today so doing ok.

Cat I'm in the same boat re low carb. I've GOT to lose the weight before I get pregnant again. Crap food day today though, 3 slices of toast post gym for brekkie, sushi rolls and salad for lunch and 3 slices of toast plus salmon for dinner. Rubbish start!

hairypotter · 17/08/2011 13:55

Hello, I'll join you if I may. I reached day 8 level 2 around 2 weeks ago but had a few medical problems so had to stop. Feeling better now and have exactly 4 weeks until I go on holiday so could do will losing some lard and toning up.

I was doing shred and couch25k alternately but I'm not able to run at the moment so I am planning on trying to do it every day. I'm going back to the start and trying to block the horror of level 2 from my mind

Wish me luck Grin

UmYeahLikeTotally · 17/08/2011 16:19

I just bought my DVD from Amazon! I know I am probably crazy but I'm really looking forward to starting this.

Can anyone explain it how the levels work etc? Do you just do 20 mins per day or can you do more than that?

Sorry!

UmYeahLikeTotally · 17/08/2011 16:20

Btw well done Cat and good luck everyone!!

hairypotter · 17/08/2011 21:46

I have just finished level 1 day 1. I thought I would find it quite easy tbh, having got almost to the end of level 2, but it was still awful Sad

My arms were aching after a few seconds of weights, two weeks with no exercise has not been kind to me.

Well done cat on starting, it does get a bit easier the more you do it. Good luck with the diet, I've lost two stone and would love to get rid of the last one before holiday but I know that's ambitious especially because I can't be arsed dieting properly. I'm sticking to a smallish bowl of museli for brekkie, homemade veg soup with bread (no butter) for lunch and a normal dinner. I'm also filling up on fruit and drinking loads of tea. I found doing that plus shred and couch25k did work and I didn't feel too deprived. I'm not sure I could stick to anything really restricting.

uylt no diet advice on DVD but there might be stuff on website. I think the idea is to do it everyday although I know some hardcore shredheads probably manage more than one level at a time. there is nothing in this world that will persuade me that it is a good idea Grin

LittlePushka · 17/08/2011 22:01

Hello, I am going Shrek to shred (or will do as soon as the DVD arrives) so may I join you good people? Does that make us Shreddies??!!

How did day 3 go cat? I only ever read about the horror of it so unlike UmYeah, I am not especially looking forward to it.

I did C25K in the spring which was fine - but stopped after a groin strain in my Race for Life. Bugger!

I am also just starting slimming world online and I am impressed with that!!

HOw much room will I need to Shred and is there music on the DVD?

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 17/08/2011 22:29

I started yesterday but have already missed today as we ended up going for a long walk in the sunshine.... and tomorrow is running club - I really need more hours in the day. Friday it is!

I have a month till we go on hols and so I hope this is gonna help me shift the last stone.

CatPower · 18/08/2011 12:45

Hello all! Oh I am aching, my knees burn with the strength of a thousand suns and my arms are all shaky, but I think I'm actually enjoying shredding! Very weird considering I normally hate all exercise. I'm always wary/lazy to go and do it, but once I've done circuit one it feels good (jumping jacks aside), and the next two circuits fly by. The thought of level 2 terrifies me, I've heard so many horror stories!

Hiya, just found this thread, I started the Shred (again) on Monday too. Hurt like hell on Tues and wed, but feeling ok now. Got up to Day 7 Level 2 about a month ago, and really noticed a difference in body shape, but a full month of doing hardly any exercise and eating hugely has obliterated all the good work... Planning to shred or do a run everyday mon-fri and not worry so much about the weekends.

hairypotter · 18/08/2011 22:58

Hello shreddies, I like that better than shredheads Grin, I've just done L1D2 and it was just as awful as yesterday. My arms are so tired after a few reps with weights I feel so feeble.

I was full of good intentions to get it over with as soon as possible after work but I ended faffing for so long it was after 10pm before I got round to it. Still, it's done now for another day thank god.

LittlePushka · 18/08/2011 23:15

HairyPotter (love this name!) - how much space do you need to do it?

VoldemortsNipple · 19/08/2011 09:49

Ok, I'm thinking of having a go of this. I will buy today while I'm out or on Amazon later if I can't find it.

Do I need to get weights or will 2 tins of beans do the job. If I need weights, what kind do I need. We have a sports direct in town so they shouldn't be too expensive from there.

Also DD who is 15 and a size 6-8 but not toned and does very little exercise, willl this help her tone up without losing weight.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 19/08/2011 10:28

I'm in, did circuit one today. Have lost 1 st with SW, another 3 to go so hoping this will help. Didn't find it too bad today but I have been to the gym 4 times a week for the last 8 weeks or so. Quite enjoyed it actually. Anyone know if you can do two circuits in one day?

ledkr · 19/08/2011 10:51

I was doing this before the summer hols and loved it,my post baby bod started to look better and i lost a few pounds too,i will be re starting when school hols end as find it too busy.
cheese i am also going to start sw,can i ask did you do red and green or the combined one,id like to do the latter but it seems too good to be true,id like to lose 2 stone and not weigh the same as when i was pg Hmm i love the idea of sw but i can t believe you would lose weight.

hairypotter · 19/08/2011 12:19

Aw thanks little. You don't need that much space tbh. Enough to be able to lie down for abs section and do jumping jacks etc.

Have fun Grin

hairypotter · 19/08/2011 22:52

L1D3 done. Still finding my arms are sore but cardio is a bit easier.

volde I think you could probably use cans for level 1 and 2 but from what I can gather level 3 would be better with proper weights. I haven't made it that far yet. and probably never will Your dd should tone up with it, I found I didn't lose as much weight as I hoped doing it every day but I did really notice my clothes were fitting so much better.Smile

CatPower · 20/08/2011 00:27

I use cans of chickpeas and they make my arms ache!

Finding it a bit easier today, but still achy. Still hate circuit 1 but LOVE 2 and 3! So weird!

OP posts:
Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/08/2011 07:06

Morning all. So I am a total dumbass and only did circuit 1 yesterday which I think is a third of day 1. So will restart today!

ledkr I do extra easy. Yep it does work, I've lost a stone without sticking to it all the time and my mum has lost 3! There's a sw thread, big fat list and days of doom, if you want to come join us?

hairypotter · 20/08/2011 22:09

Arf at cheese I did think you must be super fit when you were thinking if doing two in one day Grin

L1D4 done and dusted. Cardio bits fine, not too out of breath. Weights still feel far too heavy for my weak and feeble arms.

Almost enjoying it in places, but probably because it's so much easier than all the planking in level 2.
