Heello all, quick qu if you don't mind

I consider myself moderately fit, got the Shred dvd on weds and did L1 weds and yesterday. Today I am struggling to walk downstairs! Is this normal? and how long does it take before you start to cope a bit better?

Cheers all

notyummy · 04/11/2011 12:59

Quite normal!! Unless you are used to doing some sort of fairly demanding circuit training (bootcamp fitness sessions spring to mind) then you will find it hard. It is definitely harder than most other DVDs on the market. Keep going and you should find it wears off after 4/5 days - and measure yourself to spur you on!

threestepsforward · 04/11/2011 13:01

Hi Sassy!

Yes, that would be normal Grin I was walking like John Wayne for about 3 days and had to walk downstairs sideways!

I'd say you'll feel less aches after 2 or 3 days. If you can bear it, push onto day 2 straight away and you'll quickly find it gets better Smile

Well done on getting started!

knottyhair · 04/11/2011 13:11

Hi Sassy. Just to echo what the others have said, keep going, it gets easier after the first few days! Good on you for starting it!

I've been struggling to motivate myself to shred ATM (taken weeks and weeks off with colds etc) and today I decided to just have a look at 6 Week 6 Pack AND I DID IT!!!!

Easiest possible version, and I slacked off a couple of times, but I finished it!

V proud of myself, also v sweaty. But actually a better routine for me than the shred I think, because not quite so hard on my knees.

Can I have a "Yay Dilys!" please? Grin

notyummy · 04/11/2011 21:04

Yay Dilys!!

DilysPrice · 04/11/2011 21:11

Thank you Smile

chocolateshoes · 04/11/2011 21:24

Hi everyone, lost this thread for a while and have been suffering with the mother of all colds so have done v little recently. Anyway am back to it now. I also feel that I've plateaued. I do L3 Shred with 4k weight or NMTZ but am wondering about BFBM....how long does it last? What I like about what I do now is that I can fit in the 30 minute session. Any more is a struggle because of work, life etc.

Well done all of you - you've all been working hard whilst I've been wallowing in snot Sad

knottyhair · 05/11/2011 09:06

Well done Dilys! Chocolate, BFBM is the same length/set-up as NMTZ but no weights, all cardio type stuff. I prefer the strength type stuff, so I find doing 4 circuits of BFBM enough before I want to die , 4 circuits take about 25 mins including warm-up and cool down. Also the 6W6P levels take about half an hour and they are very good! HTH.
Just did L1 Shred with weights in the cardio (mix of 2 & 3kg for the whole thing). Haven't done a great deal in the last couple of weeks and it definitely wasn't a "cakewalk" Grin.

Jacksterbear · 05/11/2011 16:48

Yay Dilys!

Welcome back choc and well done for getting back on it. I both love and hate BFBM! But definitely get it, for something a bit different.

Feeling a bit bored/plateau-ish myself. Just done Tae-Bo Everybody Get Ripped plus the abs and legs sections from 10 min solutions Pilates Perfect Body, which was pretty hard work! Contemplating getting 6W6P to add to my Jillian collection (which currently consists of shred, NMTZ and BFBM) - shall I do it?!

knottyhair · 05/11/2011 17:34

Go on Jackster, you know it makes sense! I really like 6W6P - a good all round workout as far as I'm concerned, despite the title. And L2 for me is the hardest routine she does! Don't forget she's got 2 new titles coming out on 27th December - available for pre-order now on Amazon (I really should get commission Grin)

OP posts:
notyummy · 05/11/2011 21:43

Would agree that L2 6W6P is the single hardest routine. There are bits of other routines (in Shred/NMTZ) that have slightly more muscle burn because of their strength demands, but for overall 'OMG I can't get enough air' then it's L2 6W6P. I've heard that Ripped in 30 is v hard too!

Did 3.5 miles on Thursday morning (at 6am..) then yoga for 45 mins on Friday. Was slightly hungover from a night out with work colleagues so some gentle yoga seemed safest! NMTZ with DH tomorrow.

chocolateshoes · 05/11/2011 21:45

Thanks Knotty and Jackster I think I'll do a little Amazon order then.

In general I prefer the strength stuff as well but I do find at the moment I'm lurching between bad back, twinging calf, severe colds and if I've got a variety of workouts to choose from I can usually manage something. Have done something to my back over the last few days so can't do abs because I can't lie down on my back. Is v frustrating but can do most other parts of Shred. Can't wait to be fully fit and get back into it all properly. Plus am going to Tenerife at New Year and my sister in law has had liposuction and now is super svelte. I need to be able to lie on a sun bed next to her!!!!

febes · 05/11/2011 23:56

I did my first duathlon this morning. 1k run, 10k cycle, 3k run. I completed in in an hour and 5mins (estimate- waiting for official timings) I found the runs good although it was getting hot by the last run it was around 9am and its really sunny here today. The cycle leg was ok but I had road bike envy. I am borrowing a friend really awesome mountain bike but its not really good on the road- a bit clunky. Still no head wind and overall I'm really pleased. Next one is in a month 1.5k run, 15k cycle, 4k run so need to up my training. Wouldn't have ever been able to achieve it without Jillian!!!

knottyhair · 06/11/2011 06:55

Wow Febes, what an amazing achievement! Fantastic Smile!
Chocolate, sorry you've had such an array of ailments lately; hope your back gets better soon, don't try and do too much. Enjoy Tenerife, and remember, whatever you've achieved by then will have been through sheer hard work, not lipo Wink.

Jacksterbear · 06/11/2011 07:39

febes that's awesome! Smile

notyummy · 06/11/2011 07:46

Well done Febes!

chocolateshoes · 06/11/2011 21:18

Febes - you are amazing!!!!!!

threestepsforward · 07/11/2011 10:19

Febes congratulations Grin!!! Wow!

And to Dilys for getting back on the Shred wagon!

Morning all, back feeling much better today. Did a 10-minute pilates stretch yesterday to see what happened, and all good, so I will be attempting a Shred today and see how I go.

Chocolateshoes I sympathise with your injury problems. I've had this back problem on and off, and very bad last week, and a niggly bicep injury that won't seem to go away. It's tough isn't it? Tough to know what to do for the best. I'm going to gingerly step back onto the Shred Mobile and see how I do...

Will check back in later Smile

knottyhair · 07/11/2011 10:19

Febes, how are you feeling after your amazing achievement??

Did 4 circuits of NMTZ this morning with 3kg, including the tricep circuit. Man, that was hard! My abs were definitely screaming in circuit 2, could barely manage the 2nd set of bicycle crunches! But I did enjoy it!

Chocolate, how's your back today?

OP posts:
notyummy · 07/11/2011 10:28

Threesteps - hope it goes ok for you - fingers crossed.

Knotty - I find circuit 2 of NMTZ hard as well - particularly by the time I get to the second set of press-ups as my core is killing me! DH always does the one legged press-ups at the end of the second lot because he is a big show-off. I have never attempted because I fear it would lead to collapse! We did NMTZ yesterday morning. I am gradually trying to use 5kg for more of it. Can do about 2/3s with 5 kg I would say, but not much in circuit 1 (only the squat and press). Can do circuit 2 with 5KG, and nearly all of circuit 3 except the side lunge and bicep curl. Circuit 4 I can only do the chair squat and tricep kick backs at the beginning and have to switch down to 3kg after that. I might buy myself some 4 kg to stop the step up seeming so big....

Rest day today. L2 6W6P tomorrow. Am scared already....

knottyhair · 07/11/2011 11:00

Sorry x-posted! Hope it goes OK threesteps Smile. And wow notyummy, those are seriously impressive weights! I'd hope to get there eventually, but 3kgs is definitely my limit at the moment.

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 07/11/2011 18:07

3steps did u manage to Shred today?

Notyummy as always, in awe of your weights abilities! And knotty, good work also.

Just done NMTZ all the way through (with 2kgs). Man that is no joke! Grin

febes · 07/11/2011 19:35

Thanks everyone!! I went for a 4.5k run last night and today I'll do NMTZs. I still do 3 and 2kg weights- they are definately enough for me. I STILL can't do real press-ups. I can manage about 3 before going back to my knees. I guess the only way is to keep trying!

I gave my shred to my best friend who wanted to get into fitness but after having it for 2 months she has given it back without even looking at it. I feel a bit sad for her that she can't motivate herself to do just 20mins a day but she says she is too busy. Ah well!
