richard my thighs and bum are the last place and lose from, and I have had to get down to a BMI of 20.5 and body fat of under 20% to be happy(ish) - (still think they are on the bulky side, but now its all muscle from all the thigh toning exercises I did).

Everyone is built differently and you can't really spot reduce fat in that way, although you can tone up. I have done a mix of things - diet, gym, running, some bodypump, 30 day shred, plus exercises from a book called "thin thighs in 30 days" - she advocates lots of walking. I'd suggest getting the 30 DS DVD and doing that on non gym days to make sure you do something each day.

forever doing a mixture of different exercises sounds good, but how do you manage to fit it in every day? time is a major excuse problem for me !

RGPargy · 01/08/2011 22:19

Hi everyone! :o Blimey there's been lots of activity on here since i last posted!!

Welcome to the newbies and thanx for the adds, and a special hello to Febes too! Nice to "see" you again! :o

Well done on everyone's losses - i have been reading but not posting. You are all doing so so well! :o

Finally got MFP to link up again to Facebook after months of absence! Yay!! really frustrating!

My knee is still giving me a bit of jip - it's slightly better than this time last week (i had to have the week off the gym! Shock) and i lowered my weights in Pump today at the recommendation of the instructor, which helped it a little too. I'm getting really fed up with it now. I dont know what i can do to help it get better other than complete rest but that's just not going to happen when you have to run around after a 3.5 year old and try and keep the house looking slightly less messier than a rubbish tip!

I've been having loads of NSVs lately too! I got one from the Pump instructor today, two yesterday at the gym, one the day before at the gym, loads on Thursday night at my firm's Summer party...... They just seem to keep coming thick and fast and i've only lost 20lbs!! i must be really changing shape right now for it to be so noticeable!

Anyway, off to bed now - N'night all!! :o

foreverondiet · 01/08/2011 22:33

Fitting it in:
Gym - I work 3 days - go to gym on 2 non working days, DS2 goes to creche, and on Sunday.
I do 30 DS, and now ripped in 30 in the evenings on non gym days.
Have just started running home 1 day a week, only takes 20 mins more than the tube.

And do exercises literally whenever there is a spare minute, including in toilets at work (wall squats), waiting for kettle to boil (anything, even pressups) between each mouthful DS2 eats, on tube (pelvic floors, bum squeezes), I do weights while watching TV etc etc.

Thanks for the welcome!! I am friends with 10 of you now but if I have missed you then come looking for me.
I did No more trouble zones - good ol' Jillian today all 7 circuits with 3kg weights. I have logged it as 40 mins circuit training. They say I burned 500cals!! That seems alot. Do you think its ok?
I never eat my exercise cal anyway as I get so full with my low carb, high fat diet. I don't ever get close to my calorie total suggested by MFP but its a different science i guess.

RGPargy · 02/08/2011 13:40

Blimey, Forever!! That's impressive!!!

Febes - MFP does tend to be very generous with it's calories burned but if you're not eating them anyway, it wont really affect you as such. :)

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 02/08/2011 13:48

I haven't been on here for a while and had a few bad days but I have not gained any weight and have looked at all the calories I have consumed so I still feel kinda in control somehow.

Unfortunately my back has been hurting for a few days now. It's become a lot better but I did not want to go to the gym because of that. Not sure what's wrong with it and don't want to make it worse.
I thought about doing some pilates tonight though, I hope that won't be too stressful on my back.

I need some new breakfast ideas! I never feel full long enough if I eat something sweet for breakfast, even if I have two huge bowls of muesli I am hungry again 2 or 3 hours later.
Since starting MFP I have eaten more savoury stuff with loads of eggs and it has definitely helped, but I don't feel like I can eat eggs every day.
What do you all eat for breakfast?

Welcome to everyone new and thanks for adding me!

Wifezilla · 02/08/2011 14:21

Wow Forever, another one of my excuses (no time) shot down in flames! You deserve to be a toned size 8! My exercise time is either after 7.30pm when the boys are in bed, or occasionally during their midday nap if DH is home. I can entertain them by exercising when they are awake but then it's a real faff trying to shower/get dressed with them both around. DS1 (2yrs) is often "off to do my exercises" and gets down on all 4s to do press ups :o

I'm still "off the wagon" eating wise and am getting frustrated at my self sabotaging. Perhaps i need to invest in Paul Daniels. Trying to be good today although I am not in the right frame of mind, not sure why though.

Wannabemarrypoppins - I eat 2 wheatabix for breakfast and now DS2 has started on solids I often have a piece of toast too as for some reason I always put 2 slices of bread in the toaster! :)

tinker316 · 02/08/2011 15:23

I find it hard 2 fit the time in to exercise Sad
I work 3 days a week & my DD is in nursery those days- only time I get is when she is in bed, as she is a very active 14mo!!
Tend to walk everywhere & am going to go running once a week when DP is home Smile
Was a size 6 before DD- would be lovely to get back to that again!!!

tinker316 · 02/08/2011 15:25

Also do a shred session whenever I can fit it in 2 Wink

foreverondiet · 02/08/2011 15:42

I think that exercise has to be a priority or it doesn't happen, although I do accept that I am lucky that I can afford the creche at the gym twice a week for DS2. I'd do exercise in the evenings otherwise, but DH often works late so I'd be constantly making excuses if he came home late.

But walking with a buggy does add up to almost as much as the gym if you do it briskly. In the week I borrowed the kifit I found that walking briskly with a buggy was similar to most gym activities (apart from running) - around 5 calories a minute.

I never used to do exercise DVDs in the evening but I can see that it really does make a difference, not really to fitness but to toning, including core muscles. Also used it a way to get MFP calories above 1200!

richardarmitageismine · 02/08/2011 16:14

I did go to the conditioning class last night and feel so much better for it, the first proper exercise I've done in months! I'm not going to do anything today, as the dds have got friends round, but will go to a body attack class tomorrow night. I think maybe the evenings are a good time for me, as I don't really do v much once the dds have gone to bed, so I might aswell go to a class. Hmm
I'm finding it tricky to log all my food intake onto my MFP, as for example today for dinner I'm having chicken & veg curry that was made by my MIL. Ive got no idea of the calorie content?

foreverondiet · 02/08/2011 20:39

Hard to guess calories of food made by other people - esp if you aren't sure if they add oil to their cooking as a small amount can quickly add up. But then chicken and veggies are good choices. Just do a search and guessimate it.

OP posts:
febes · 02/08/2011 21:40

Breakfast ideas- I am low carb/high fat so some of these might be too high fat for your low cal diets but this is what I have for breakfasts

  • mushrooms (4 medium) and 2 rashers of streaky bacon sliced and fried then a dash of cream, black pepper and crushed chillies on a bed of raw baby spinach. Thats what I had this morning and it easily fills me up until lunch and its only 200cals according to MFP
  • Omelette (2eggs with ham and cheese)
  • leftovers- low carb but not eggs- noone said you have to have breakfast food for breakfast. I've had a salad for breakfast before!

Exercise- I do home DVDs in the morning as I have a 2yo DS and a 3.8yo DD they either join in or play. I kind of ignore them as I consider it 'My Time' they have got used to it! I then have a shower and get on with other jobs. DD goes to nursery in the afternoons and DS sleeps then so I could do something then but once I've had a shower I can't be arsed so I find that an hour after breakfast is best for me. I do this everyday (almost) including weekends unless I work (supply teacher). In the summer I went walking with friends some nights which was good for extra exercise but haven't since the earthquake and winter hitting. In the coming summer I plan to start running in the evenings once DH is home from work.

foreverondiet · 02/08/2011 23:26

wifezilla - you mean Paul McKenna not Paul Danies (magician!)

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 02/08/2011 23:57

Thanks for the advice re breakfast foods. I will try and get some more variety in there, I am getting quite bored of the same stuff over and over.

Today as an ok day for me, even though I had rice and korma sauce for dinner.

febes · 03/08/2011 03:33

I have just changed my settlings on MFP to sedentary lifestyle and 2lbs per week weight loss so now my daily calorie goal is 1200 which is more realistic to what I am eating. It also means I need to exercise to give me extra calories for if I go over slightly. The 1000+ excess calories each were annoying me!! Thanks for the advice forever. You gave it to someone else on another thread but I thought it was a good idea in my case.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 03/08/2011 07:56

Well, I haven't done any exercise for ages - I've been walking with the kids, trips to the beach, general running around after them - but no proper just-for-me-exercise. I haven't been eating as well as I normally do because I've been out with the kids and having sandwiches or burgers occasionally. But I've lost another kilo! That's 4 kg in less than 2 weeks. I gained or stayed the same on MFP, stayed the same or had minimal losses with very low carbing, gained while riding 5km every morning, but with 'normal' eating and very little exercise I'm losing faster than ever. I must be a medical marvel Grin

RGPargy · 03/08/2011 09:37

lol @ Paul Daniels!!! :o

Wifezilla · 03/08/2011 09:42

Oh, just saw the "Paul" mix up! ha ha, yes obviously mean Paul McKenna, although I may need some of Paul Daniels' magic too!

foreverondiet · 03/08/2011 11:33

Thought this was useful link:
link

Explains why:
a) its vital you eat enough protein when dieting
b) why you don't need to eat exercise calories if still quite overweight but you do when you get close to target
c) why weight loss slows down as you get to target, and why thats ok
d) why resistance training really important to weight loss
e) why loosign weight quickly increases chances of putting it back on

knitknack · 03/08/2011 15:25

I love that link forever, learning this stuff was really REALLY important for me, and allowed me to sit back, be happy with a pound a week and really focus on being STRONG and FIT rather than losing weight...

... I only have a bit to lose anyway, and although that would (will?!) be nice, what would be even NICER is to NOT get tired at work and be able to keep working through the evening without being completely knackered at the end of term! (am a teacher)... have decided that getting fit was the best thing I could do for myself, and using links like yours to learn how to BUILD muscle, and not LOSE it for the sake of a number on some scales, has been so enlightening!

consequently I am eating my exercise calories and just hoping for that 1lb a week, making sure that I am feeding my muscle, but also have the things I love! (I'm still a novice at this!)

Great link, thanks!

knitknack · 03/08/2011 15:25

I'm hopsie on MFP, btw!

foreverondiet · 03/08/2011 15:33

I loved the link so much that I bought the book!

I also increased my MFP calories.

I agree with you though I want to build muscle rather than lose weight.
