That link is very interesting!

I had my weigh in today and lost 700grams this week, which is not bad considering that I had some bad days. So overall I have now lost 2.2. kilos/5 pounds in three weeks, which I think is great.

I am going to go to London from Sunday to Wednesday and am worried that I will put it all back on there. My DP is down there at the moment so we want to go to restaurants and I got a job interview so will probably be super nervous. Does anyone have any good holiday tips?

Flisspaps · 04/08/2011 11:40

Well done WannaBe - that's excellent.

Am really getting into the Shred now, and have found that logging my food intake and exercise on MFP is really spurring me on - especially if I log on there that I've done the exercise in advance. It's like I've made a public promise which I am then bound to keep IYSWIM?

I may have said something similar earlier in the week but it's true!

I can definitely feel a difference in my stomach, even though it's not visible yet :)

Worried about the weekend though, have a Hen party on Saturday which is going to involve Nandos and lots of alcohol, and then wedding anniversary on Monday which is going to involve some sort of tasty meal and wine...

knitknack · 04/08/2011 14:02

I have read a few theories on MFP that it's actually really GOOD to have one 'blow out day' every now and then so that your body doesn't get used to a certain level of calories and thus hang on to fat... I don't have any personal experience of that however!

I did go over this weekend though - we went to Chessington World of Adventures and ate all sorts of rubbish, and then the same day my Granny died (not unexpected at 104!) but that meant that I've spent the last few days rushing around to different offices, and her house and I haven't had the time to devote to cooking/exercising as I normally would. anyway, the upshot is that I've still lost this week (not very much but then I'm only trying for 1lb a week, plus I'm trying to build muscle, which means looking in a mirror rather than at some scales) so that sort of bears it out...

I would enjoy your 'special times' because that's what they ARE, and when you are living so healthily and mindfully, you CAN do that precisely because when you get back you'll be right back to your new lifestyle... and OK, maybe you might not lose any weight that week (or maybe you will!) but what's one week in the length of a (hopefully) long life? (see my granny above for example!)? Holidays and anniversaries are exactly the sorts of occasions that SHOULD involve treats and relaxation - it's just that (well, i'm probably speaking for myself here) that kind of living in our modern lives has sort of spilled over into every day!

Anyway, I would read up on the best alcohol to have, match each drink with a glass of water (which will by necessity cut the amount you drink even if only down to the time it takes), read up about restaurant choices, and try to incorporate some walking around if you can!

Do you ever listen to podcasts? These last few weeks have been a total education for me, and I've learnt a lot by listening to podcasts from fitgirl and fat2fitradio - totally free!

Best of luck!

Flisspaps · 04/08/2011 19:13

That's a very good point knitknack - what's the bloody point of me doing all this if I'm not going to have fun and enjoy myself (and enjoy my new soon-to-be slimness).

All diet and no play will make Flisspaps a very dull girl indeed.

Thanks for that, I shall stop worrying quite so much and enjoy them. I shall raise a glass of something very tasty to your granny too :)

Wifezilla · 04/08/2011 19:51

I'd agree with the just enjoy yourself advice, it might even be good mentally to have a break and you'll come home with extra motivation. Wannabemarrypoppins, perhaps you could try to eat a light snack when on your own at meal times and then just enjoy eating out when you're with your DP? I find if I'm not at home then I don't snack, so you may not have such a calorie blow out at you expect. Good luck with the job interview!

I've fallen off the wagon (did I write that last time? If so, then I still haven't managed to get back on) but have given myself a little talking to and am about to go and do body pump (haven't exercised since my run on Sunday). I even took Forever's advice on random exercise today and managed 30 burpees whilst DS2 was in his highchair eating lunch. Had to hold my boobs down whilst doing the jumping bit though :o DS was in fits of laughter which I tried not to take personally.....

Sorry to hear about your Granny Knitknack, but what a great innings :)

Seems to be lots of weight loss going on - well done.

foreverondiet · 04/08/2011 19:56

knitknack is right. Its important to enjoy yourself and food is part of that. Clearly not ideal if you are eating huge meals daily with friends though!

Also better to plan to "fall off" rather than fall off without planning as then there is no guilt! IME blowout days do slow weight loss down but not by as much as you'd think. Also difference between blow-out (going out for dinner) and overeating (going out for dinner, eating loads of bread, lots of wine, dessert, and then chocolate when you get home as you fell off the wagon anyway....

Body pump done - looking in the mirror at myself for a whole hour really inspires me to never eat again eat sensibly.

foreverondiet · 04/08/2011 22:55

wifezilla I did bodypump today too & I agree about the mirror!

OP posts:
RGPargy · 04/08/2011 23:48

foreverondiet · 05/08/2011 07:28

Forever - oh yes of course! i DO do that! :o Blush

Cat - will add you!

catinboots · 05/08/2011 11:52

Thankyou everyone who added me!

richardarmitageismine · 05/08/2011 13:08

Have'nt been on this thread for a couple of days as I have'nt been tracking on MFP. I have been eating healthily -ish (!), but have'nt been bothered to log everything down, basically because I am going on holiday on monday for two weeks so I think 'what's the point'? Am abit annoyed with myself, and downbeat because I just can't see myself losing any weight over the summer holidays .....Have been to two classes this week though, and going again tomorrow which is more than I've done in ages.
Is everyone doing a weigh -in once a week? And if so which day? This might motivate me, I might even take my scales with me on holdiay - sad or what!

foreverondiet · 05/08/2011 13:41

Hi catinboots! Hope you can loose the weight in time for your wedding! We'll all try and help you! If you make your diary public for MFP friends then easier to help.

I just replied to someone who was planning to do the maple syrup diet for 4 weeks, insane..... Hope I wasn't too rude!

Am v excited my new book came "The Body Fat Solution - 5 principles for burning fat, building lean muscle, ending emotional eating and maintaining your perfect weight" - by Tom Venuto. I am a bit of a sucker for diet books - I know I am obsessed!

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 05/08/2011 14:15

catinboots Are you the one with the absolutely stunning wedding dress? Good luck with the diet but please don't lose too much - you look so beautiful in your dress!

catinboots · 05/08/2011 15:35

Thankyou - yes it was the dress I was having a major wobble over. I'm trying to concentate these next few weeks on doing lots of toning of my arms and upper body. Will make me feel more confident in the dress I think.

Done body pump twice this week and had two personal training sessions so feeling good. It's DS1's birthday on sunday and we're having a family bbq. I'm going to stick to lots of chicken and salad and water water water!!!

ForEVER - I am a total diet book addict too! My kitchen is filled with them. I'm an expert on dieting. Just not sticking to them Wink

foreverondiet · 05/08/2011 16:08

catinboots strongly advise buying some 2kg (and maybe 4kg) weights.... I have 2kg and 4kg and I do weights whilst watching TV, I have lovely arms now Smile and I am sure having the weights at home helps as I really do use them each day - both for shred etc or also when I watch TV. Use the 2kg for mainly shoulder stuff. 4kg for dead & upright rows, biceps, tricep kickbacks. Also use DS2 as a weight!

re: the diet books, I have managed to stick to a "diet" now since October! My diet has evolved as I read the books. Started with tesco diets (basically calorie counting but more "totals" given to less healthy choices) used Rosemary Conely low GI then when I reached a plateau in around Feb (with 10lbs to go) started looking elsewhere. Looked at low carb - IPD and south beach, and then dukan. Then onto the lean and clean diet - now at floor weight (a stone less than original target) its more about long term eating pattern - so Jillian Michaels, Harcombe and now this one I just bought.

I need to get back on the mfp wagon, I lack motivation when the wine is flowing and so I can be restrained all day and then pig out in the evening.

I am the heaviest I have ever been and I disgust myself so I am going to have to tackle this right now.

My name on there is the same as here except with an underscore between the two words, please add me and give me a massive kick up the arse.

RGPargy · 05/08/2011 22:10

Mrspnut - have added you on MFP.

I know what you mean about being weak when the wine is flowing!! I am the same and so now i dont have wine in the house or drink at all with the exception of a couple of ciders on a Friday or Saturday night. I did go through a phase at the beginning of my cracking down phase of actually not drinking at all because i knew it would be my downfall and all would go wrong after a few sips of wine!!

Haven't been to the gym since Tuesday night and i'm really gagging to get back there! I didn't do my normally "double whammy" on Wednesday (step class and then pump class) as i went to my friend's for lunch and we normally meet up at 11am, plus also i wanted to rest my knee a little more so i was not overly bothered about missing my double session. I dont normally go on a Thurs and Fri either because i work on those days, although MIL was sick so i've not been into work this week. I could have gone to the gym but as it's end of term, the creche is normally rammo and i wouldn't have been able to get DD in there. Ah well, pump class tomorrow and then combat and pump on Sunday.

Really need to do more cardio tho. Twice a week isn't enough for and i need to blow some cardio cobwebs away! Pump is fine as i do that 4/5 times a week so that's enough!

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 05/08/2011 22:39

I feel really guilty reading about all you going to the gym/doing sports all the time, I have not done anything for at least a week. Life is really busy at the moment though and I hope that I will have more time once I come back from London.

Thanks for the advice re food there and the good luck wifezilla. I will try and not be tempted to get coffee and snacks all the time while there. But I will at least do some walking every day.

I have felt that one of my pairs of trousers has been much loser lately and I needed to use a belt but I thought that 2.2 kilos couldn't really do that.. but today someone asked whether I lost weight Shock I said only a little but she said she could really see. COuld the cycling every day and losing 5 pounds really make a difference? Made me feel so god about myself today and stick to my calories very well for the rest of the evening Wink

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 05/08/2011 22:45

Sorry for all the typos in my post, should really proof read it before submitting it.

RGPargy · 05/08/2011 22:47

The only bit i noticed was where you said you felt god about yourself!! :o Wink

Well done on the compliments tho! It's brilliant isn't it!! :o

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 05/08/2011 23:11

Well, that was obviously wrong, I felt more like a goddess Wink (English is my second language and I make loads of mistakes when not concentrating properly)

It felt really good somehow. I know I have not been working as hard as I could have and I am still a long way from where I want to be but I have not told anyone that I am eating less etc so she must have really seen it. Weird as it is only 5 pounds. But I am not going to complain! Gave me a new boost somehow

mrspnut · 06/08/2011 07:39

Well done Wannabe, I'll bet the compliments feel good.

Thanks for adding me folks, I know I need to stop drinking completely for a while but during the summer holidays it's going to be difficult.

I'm also going to make next week a bread free zone, because I seem to use so many calories on bread.
