Been away for a few days a combination of illness, children's illness ,teenage exams and children's birthdays have made logging difficult however back on track now ,about to go on exercise bike for a while

jchocchip · 28/01/2012 08:53

bucket don't even joke about starving yourself. Very low calorie diets sometimes upset thyroid function, I hope you are eating plenty of the right foods and getting enough water. Maybe you should see your doctor and run this past them. Try and do exercise you enjoy and don't stress out about your weight. Whatever you do don't go below 1200 net calories.

ditavonteesed · 28/01/2012 08:57

I can get into the dress I bought for my sil wedding last year and never wore as I have never been able to fasten it. I cant breath in it but I can fasten it, got another 3 weeks till my anniversary when I am planning to wear it. Smile now I will go and read what I have missed on this thread and catch up.

jchocchip · 28/01/2012 09:03

Wow diva that is good news :) I'm going to buy a pair of size 20 jeans to add to my collection of 28, 26, 24 and 22. I know they won't fit yet but having them hanging up in my wardrobe waiting for me will spur me on! Mustn't delay any longer, out for my run...

bucketbetty · 28/01/2012 09:33

Jchoc, I could never starve myself, I like my food too much. I'm being really careful not to eat over my 1200 it under for that matter. Im cycling as much ad I can. I really enjoy it. Ive bought an exercise ball and I'm buying some exercise weights today. I want to do somestrength exercise. Fingers crossed for me. Well done you guys. I can't wait to fit comfortably into my clothes.

QueenStromba · 28/01/2012 10:02

Did the doctor say anything about it taking time for your body to adjust on the thyroxine? If not then your dose probably isn't high enough. Definitely tell your doctor that you've been dieting and haven't managed to lose any weight because that's a symptom of hypothyroidism.

bucketbetty · 28/01/2012 19:43

Queen, I need to make an appointment to see my GP. I have to confess I haven't taken my thyroxine today and really don't feel like taking it ever again. Surely you can't just keep gaining weight or not lose weight at all being hypothyroid. I guess I may have to reduce my calories yet again? I don't know. I'll make an appointment with my GP and see what they say.

QueenStromba · 28/01/2012 20:27

The thyroxine is probably the only thing keeping you from gaining weight. If you don't take it you run the risk of developing a load of other unpleasant symptoms like depression. The weight will probably sort itself out once you find the right dose.

bucketbetty · 28/01/2012 20:54

But I only started putting on weight when I started the thyroxine. Ok. I'll take today's dose.

AmazingDisgrace · 28/01/2012 20:58

I'm Nickything on MFP and trying to lose 2.5 stone. been doing it since start of this month and have lost 9lbs so far... although I screwed up my start weight when I first used the MFP app so it looks like less on there

bucketbetty · 28/01/2012 21:10

I think I might stop using mfp. It's too sad to read all these good news stories when I'm sticking to my diet and losing nothing.

AmazingDisgrace · 28/01/2012 21:17

Don't give up Bucketbetty! My SIL has to take thyroxine and she gained weight for a while until her thyroid levelled out. She had to have her thyroid nuked and then it went underactive but it did level out and throughout she kept up a diet and exersize plan. It totally freaked her out as she had been skinny before due to massively overactive thyroid She started whacking off the weight once her thyroid was sorted. please dont give up!

bucketbetty · 28/01/2012 21:23

Thanks for giving me a bit of hope Grace. I just treated myself to a couple big handfuls of salted peanuts to cheer myself uup.

AmazingDisgrace · 28/01/2012 21:24

Hey, peanuts great for protein, just drink some water to counteract the sodium ;)

bucketbetty · 28/01/2012 21:36

I just took my thyroxine too.

movingonwardsorsidewards · 29/01/2012 00:00

bucket - you should defintly go back to the doctors. my mum has a thyroid problem and was given tablets to help with water retention and that made her loose a few pounds. and before she was basically starving herself and she couldnt loose even 1 pound. but make sure you take your medication as it could cause problems.

jchocchip · 29/01/2012 07:52

Hang in there bucketbetty. I'm sure that you can crack this and if you are fed up of restrictive calories maybe have a week at maintenance and enjoy your cycling. I prefer the mobile app where you can't access the boards! (I've wasted too much time on them)

Hi amazing nickything! Well done on your loss. I'll
add you. I've loads to lose but I'm so excited to have found something that works for me :)

ditavonteesed · 29/01/2012 12:58

bb hang in there, it never hurts to be eating better anyway, it must be so hard when there are problems, god knows it is hard enough on its own. we are all there to support each other not to make anyone ever feel bad. If anyone new wants to add me feel free I am a bit rubbish at keeping up with who everyone is.
I bought myself a pedometer at ww and am wlaking like a mad person to earn more food.

bucketbetty · 29/01/2012 16:10

Hi all, thanks so much for your words of support. Even if I'm not losing weight I feel so much more motivated, I feel better about myself and I'm inspired to get fitter. I just had Sunday lunch, a nut roast with my friend. I cycles to and from the pub, I didn't have any alcohol and agreed with my chum that we would start running again. We used to run loads but things happened and we gave up. I feel much more positive about things today. It's really inspirational to see hoe much weight lots of you have lost and how much effort you all commit to being healthier. It keeps me going and doesn't feel at all like a diet. It just feels Luke being healthy.

bexsybooboo · 29/01/2012 19:28

BB Keep going like others have said, but make an appointment to go back to your GP and get their advise.

Great news that you and your friend are going to try and get back to running not only is this good for the healthy lifestyle but great for clearing your head and relaxing.

Let us aal know how you get on at GP's and we are all rooting that the healthy lifestyle not diet kicks in and you keep with it. Smile

PippiL · 30/01/2012 18:57

Help. I can't keep it up, I manage until lunchtime, then the diet goes to pot.

How do you keep going?

bucketbetty · 30/01/2012 19:38

I log absolutely everything I eat and monitor my calories. I make sure I have a decent slow release carb for breakfast, a snack for elevensies, and something to look forward to for lunch. I have a sweet too after my lunch, eg a yogurt or some grapes. Again another snack at 3pm then dinner. It really helps me to space my food throughout the day and try never to feel hungry. If I feel hungry I drink some juice or have a handful of peanuts before bed. I've upped my exercise too. I'm not losing any weight but I'm starting to feel much more comfortable in my clothes and that raises ny self esteem. Don't get me wrong. I want to stuff my face but the guilt and knowledge that its a momentary fix with major guilt to follow is keeping me on track. I find it helpful and motivating to say hi to the guys on here too. It can be really supportive. What do you think happens to you at lunchtime? It might be worth writing down what you feel, where you are, who you're with- working out your triggers can help you find coping strategies.

PippiL · 30/01/2012 20:09

Thanks bucketbetty :-)
I am normally quite good at lunch, I eat at work so normally have soup, or today I had a wrap with a bit of chicken and tiny smudge of cheese, and a satsuma.
Then I had a twix from the machine on the way out of work, I leave at 2.30. Cos nobody can see me stuffing it in my gob :-(
Then I came home from school pick up and ate hobnobs with the kids!
Dinner was Harissa chicken and cous cous, which was ok ish. I suppose.

I eat crap when no one can see me :-(

movingonwardsorsidewards · 30/01/2012 21:03

pippil - i am currently listen to paul mckennas cd i can make you thin, and ive red the book, i felt like i had a slow start but i really think its helping me to eat less. normally i eat bug protions and LOVE chocolate, i am still eating sweet things but alot less. have a look at the paul mckenna thread.

movingonwardsorsidewards · 30/01/2012 21:06

I just wanted to check with everyone as I am rubbish at knowing measurements of food, would you say peanut butter on one slice of toast is 15grams? or would it be less? I would think that maybe 15grams would be enough for two slices of toast? Hmm
