Can't believe I managed to lose weight over Christmas! I'm away for 10 days from Friday and won't be able to weigh myself. I'm going to take my trainers with me though and try and do week 1 of c25k again while i'm there!

QueenStromba · 28/12/2011 15:37

I'm nearly 5 pounds heavier than when I left for my DP's parents on Saturday. I know I didn't eat 17,000 extra calories so I'm holding out hope of that coming off before Sunday.

Fenouille · 28/12/2011 17:07

Hi, is it to late to join in? I've been on mfp for a while but I need a but more motivation. I've started again with my mumsnet user name and invited a few people from the first page.

I used to be quite fit but had a bike accident almost two years ago and since then it's ask gone a bit down hill. Having a baby hasn't helped with my weight control either Sad

jchocchip · 28/12/2011 17:30

Never to late to join in :) I joined about a month ago. Had been exercising but not really paying much attention to calories before mfp. Now I see it working, I'm a bit obsessed...

jchocchip · 28/12/2011 17:35

Hope it comes off as quickly as it went on Queenstromba. Nevermind, at least Christmas is a year away now. Next year I'm going to stop being obese. I dream of being merely overweight.

bexsybooboo · 28/12/2011 21:45

Welcome Fenouille, this is a great thread for support around MFP and exercising.

I'm Bexsy on MFP and recently celebrated 135 days on MFP. I'm in for the long haul have 5stones and 7ibs to lose and have so far lost about 2 stone 5ib of this.

It is great that I can actually see this working and am looking at it as a change of lifestyle rather than a diet. Have increased my exercise as before MFP it was truly nothing and ensure I drink water and eat 3 meals per day.

Over christmas have pretty much just enjoyed it not gone silly but ate what I fancied and drank to celebrate lol Xmas Smile but will not be disheartened by any gain as I fully intend to commit again once new year done and dusted Xmas Wink

Jchocchip you are doing brill Xmas Smile

Queenstromba reckon that will shift sounds more like water retention possibly but if not I know you will shift it Xmas Smile

I am going to be brave and weigh on Friday as normal and hope not too awful but hey ho if it is worse than I am expecting have already started back with exercising so hopefully when everything returns to normality next week so will the regular 1-2ib per week weight loss

npg1 · 28/12/2011 23:12

Hi. Im new to this, I have been using the app on and off for a few months. Can some people add me so I dont feel lonely lol?! My username is nikkilab.

Is this app reall accurate? Its telling me I need 1200 caleries a day and if I exercise it gives me extra caleries.

Thanks

Fenouille · 29/12/2011 08:04

Hi jchoc and bexsy, sound like you are both doing really well. I find simply the act of logging how much I've eaten each day enormously helpful and it does become obsessive, doesn't it?

Before my bike accident and baby I was 68 kg, which feels about right for me (can maintain it with a bit of effort and more importantly I feel great!) According to BMI calculations my ideal weight should be 65 kg but I would have to constantly weight watch to reach that so I don't feel it's an achievable goal. At the moment I need to lose 9 kg to reach that goal, but I've set an initial goal of 72 kg which is my kind of "comfort" weight which I tend to bounce to if I haven't exercised or I've over indulged. Once I'm back there I will aim for 68 kg as a long term maintenance weight.

jchocchip · 29/12/2011 08:13

Its working for me npg, I'm on 1500 net calories and find that as long as I do exercise I have enough to eat. 1200 doesn't seem very many but I guess you have less to lose than me.

jchocchip · 29/12/2011 08:25

Hi Fenouille. I'm aiming for 14 stone because its a round number and it was about what I weighed in 1990 and felt comfortable with- I'm quite tall 5'10" and was about 16 stone before I had my third. Unfortunately I never shifted the baby weight and added more over the years until it crept up to 21 and a half stone. Now I'm on the way down it feels great and 6 people have told me how good I look this Christmas. I'm now 19.5 stone and in this for the long haul. I may shift my goal to 12 stone later but I'm just happy to be getting fitter and thinner!

RGPargy · 29/12/2011 08:50

Hi to the newbies. Feel free to add me! Grin

Went to the gym yesterday for the first time in about 10 days and am feeling it a bit today. Will be going back tonight for my punishment exercise. I was really buzzing when I got back yesterday so am looking forward to that feeling again tonight Grin

bexsybooboo · 29/12/2011 09:09

Fenouille - I am aiming to get to 10st this would make me borderline in target weight bracket/overweight but feel this would be a nice weight to get to that I would be happy in myself. If I then want to go further I will but reckon 10st at 5 ft 2 would make me a size 12 and be the lightest I have been in a very long time so a very excited lady Xmas Grin I will be.

MFP has calculated that I have 1200 calories a day and I was surprised at how easily I adapted to this but i try to I do exercise nearly every day to earn extra calories but attempt to leave at least 100 calories unused at end of day.

I am aiming to get to our local gym today or tomorrow to sign up. It isn't built yet and opens in February, they have a great offer on, no joining fee and for £34 per month I get to use gym, swimming pool and all classes apart from Zumba are included. Zumba will cost £1.00. Hoping if I join that when it is tipping down or freezing I can still use treadmill for running, the classes and swimming.

Welcome and good luck to newbies on thread Xmas Smile - One tip if you have a bad day or 2 don't give up keep going the good days will out do the bad days and log all exercise even walking.

whyme2 · 29/12/2011 09:27

Hi everyone,

just marking my place until I can get back on track. I have had a generous week and enjoyed myself and today I am going to visit family for a couple of days so I will be back after the weekend. But I am already feeling determined.

And by some small miracle I have remained the same weight over the last week Shock

Thank you to those posters who have added me, it has definitely helped me keep plodding on. Anyone else on here is welcome to add me I am heatherdrinkstea on mfp.

bexsybooboo · 29/12/2011 10:28

Grrrrr dh now working nights so unable to get out and run properly this week Xmas Sad really wanted to break in new running shoes properly and hit the 3 mile mark.

Am going to go out later with ds like earlier in week to at least try and cover a mile followed by zumba or just dance 3.

Hoping normality will return next week once kids back at school and all of us in a routine again.

banana87 · 29/12/2011 11:24

Hi everyone! I just joined MFP. I need to lose just over a stone of baby weight. Username is tanabannana87.

bexsybooboo · 30/12/2011 07:33

Welcome banaba87

Well have weighed in this morning and have gained 3ibs Xmas Blush

But on a positive that's my goal to lose next week the first week of 2012 Xmas Smile and also had a bloody good christmas Xmas Grin so don't regret the weight gain and know I can lose it.

Onwards to 2012 Xmas Smile

mrswoodentop · 30/12/2011 09:45

Hi I have just joined as well ,user name is the same as here ,am 47 this year and its just suddenly dawned that this is my last chance ,if I don't shift it now I am condemned Sad.Fed up of not being able to buy nice clothes and dreading going out because I will always be the fat one .DS1 will hopefully (fingers crossed)be off to University this year ,he is by far the most needy of my children so this year is going to be my year, lots of other reasons too;i have hip problems which I want to minimise and also have some career opportunities and would really like some new clothes to make me feel more confident .

QueenStromba · 30/12/2011 10:27

That'll come off in no time Bexsy - I've lost 3.5 pounds of my 4.75 pound gain in the last two days.

mrswoodentop · 30/12/2011 10:39

Queen stromba, thank you for being my first friend ,have to keep things up now, have just done 20 mins on the exercise bike.I have put in 1.5lbs a week as a goal but would like to lose more really, but will see how it goes

bexsybooboo · 30/12/2011 10:56

Queenstromba Whoop for weight loss, good going Xmas Smile

Hoping I can lose it by next Friday and that's accounting for New Years Eve, buffet food and little lots of alcohol Xmas Grin but it was christmas so that gives me another 360 days to be good before I enjoy the festivities again lol Xmas Wink

Am going to start logging food again properly from the 01.01.2012 as this is officially my christmas and new year over period so no excuses.

Want to go out running but dh on nights so am stuck enjoying more time with the dc's oh and the weather not good very wet and freezing cold, so am now worrying I wont be able to run 25mins, so am religiously doing my wii zumba and just dance 3 sweat it out programme, but it's not the same.

Welcome mrswoodentop

Fenouille · 30/12/2011 14:12

I've just noticed that next to each friend name in mfp you see the total weight loss for each person. Wow, I'm seriously impressed! Better pull my socks up.

I'm off out for another walk soon - all low impact at the moment but I suppose every little helps.

piellabakewell · 30/12/2011 16:44

Hello newbies...please add me, I'm snailrunner on MFP.

I gained 800g over xmas but have only 400g left to go now. My solution to post-xmas weight loss is to lie around in bed with DP til late morning, thereby combining breakfast with lunch and reducing my overall calorie intake Xmas Blush. Not necessarily a method I would recommend but it has worked so far!

bexsybooboo · 31/12/2011 14:55

Happy new year everyone Smile

Well done to us all on our successes so far Smile

May we all be successful in 2012 for healthy living and lifestyle changes oh and the all important weight loss Smile

A bit early but not sure if I could type later on tonight even with spellcheck Grin Wink xxxx

mrswoodentop · 31/12/2011 18:09

Hi can I ask how all of you log calories when you eat out,we are at friends this evening, difficult to ask for exact ingredients ,do you just make an educated guess?

Fenouille · 31/12/2011 19:10

Mrswoodentop I just make educated guesses - at home too as I make most of our meals from scratch. Although I did search mfp for "jamie oliver" today and found that a lot of his recipes have been entered already, including the 30min chicken tray bake that I made for lunch today.

On the subject on weight monitoring, for those of you with android phones and tablets, libra is a great weight management tool. I's based on the hacker's diet so does the trend lines he talks about. Hope at least one of you knows what I'm going on about Grin but I like to weigh in everyday so I can keep an eye on things and like this it shows a smooth trend rather than freaking me out with crazy ups and downs.

Hope you all have a great start to the new year!
