And need support

This was recommended by TheHumanCatapult and is www.foodfocus.co.uk. you start by registering your weight etc and tell it how much you want to lose. It then tells you when that will be achieved, which for me was some time in 2013 Shock. You then use it day by day to record all the food eaten, and all the exercise you have done. It is working for me so far (only day 5) because:

-Iget instant results (it tells you day by day how much it calculates you have lost, you won't see it on the scales)
-I see how much I am actually eating
-I'm in control. I can see the impact of whatever I am going to eat before I actually eat it which does help the willpower somewhat!
-It's FREE

I've only lost a quarter of a pound this week Sad
I think it may be because I went to Pizza Express by mistake one day.
I'm planning to up my exercise levels next week and hope that makes a difference.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 19/08/2011 08:46

LOL @ your accidental visit ti Pizza Express, Tarquin!

Well I did loads of exercise yesterday, so that I ended up with an extra 300 calories!
Have weighed myself and I am now 1.4lbs below my prepregnancy weight, but not recording until my official weigh day tomorrow morning. Will do more walking today!
I have to admit I find it very difficult to get out walking when the weather is crap but now the sun has come back out!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 19/08/2011 08:48

Oh and we got a £10 voucher from M&S (coz they supply our leccy and gas) so tomorrow treating me and DH to a food porn curry fest!

MABS · 19/08/2011 09:34

well done to you all, I had another very bad food and wine day yesterday :( I am so weak.

StealthPolarBear · 19/08/2011 22:55

Had a weak day too - just hoping I haven't put weight on :(

well just weighed myself, and have lost 2lb since Monday, so not bad. And do you know what, I can now look back and see there have been times where I have lost weight well and times where it;s been slower, so this is a slow time - still going at it.
Mind you tomorrow the diet may go to pot - am staying with some old friends, crisps, wine and curry! But lots of walking too - am packing my boots, so that will help

Good day for me calories-wise. Although having to buy 3 pairs of school shoes and 2 pairs of trainers did not make me a very happy mummy today.

Weighing-in tomorrow. Let's see how the first week has gone.

StealthPolarBear · 19/08/2011 23:06

keeping my fingers crossed :)

How is this a 'slow time'? Confused

Two pounds in five days? Amazing. You must have an iron will. Envy

StealthPolarBear · 19/08/2011 23:12

Err no I just have so much to lose that if I just don't eat quite as much crap as usual the weight drops off :o Once I get to a more reasonable size it will slow down quite a bit I think.

TBH though I have just stuffed myself and I don't feel good. I used to be able to eat twice what I have just had (and consider a lot) but at the moment I feel bloated and a bit sickly. So my habits are being changed for me, which can only be a good thing

That'll be your stomach shrinking - as my mother says. Grin And you'll find that as you lose weight you will do more almost without noticing, so it doesn't really slow down until Christmas you have a stretch of time when you over-eat and do nothing.

Just wait for the day you realise that your knickers are too big. Sounds silly but, even though I'd lost a couple of dress sizes, it was when the elastic in my pants was unstretched that I thought I'd really done it. Grin That they kept falling down even under jeans was not so comfortable.

FoundWanting · 20/08/2011 10:10

I have lost 3lbs!

Grin
MABS · 20/08/2011 11:29

well done! i have lost nothing, entirely my own fault :( and i am out to dinner tonight. But, start with my PT on Tues so think that will keep me on track more.

RedVelvetFudgeCake · 20/08/2011 17:58

Lost 1.2lbs this week.
But having a curry blow out.... figured I need a day off to stop going mad and to remind myself why I need to follow this plan!

Well done Foundwanting, that is a great loss!

WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 20/08/2011 23:29

Well done to you all on your weight loss this week.

I went and did it again! I got yet another good reason to work hard and really stick at it and I spend two days hiding in a bag of high fat, high sugar goodness.

I was asked to be a bridesmaid, accepted then went in to melt down about my weight and can't stop eating.

What is it going to take to wake me up and make me stick with this?!

FoundWanting · 21/08/2011 13:37

WhyIs There was a thread in this topic recently about how and why people 'self-sabotage', could be worth a look? I know I do it at times.

What sort of diet are you following? Low carb was miserable for me, but counting points/calories works because logging everything makes me think twice before I devour those biscuits.

Is the wedding the one you mentioned before? I'm a bit Envy I've never been a bridesmaid.

WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 21/08/2011 14:52

Found I think I will have to have a look for that thread, I think I remember it but only had a quick look at it.

I think it was a mixture of panicking about the closeness of the wedding and the fact I had no internet access for a couple of days. I just used it as an excuse to eat because I couldn't log (although I could have written it down). Logging really helps me and I make healthier choices.

Yes its the wedding I mentioned before. Naturally the bride is a size 6 when she is having a fat day but I can't really hold that against her. She is the bride after all! :D

MABS · 21/08/2011 16:19

i can so sympathise and understand, we are very similar.

FoundWanting · 21/08/2011 21:15

Well, I've done it today. Feel cross with myself now.

We were supposed to be going out for a big family meal with in-laws. I had thought about what I would/wouldn't eat and was feeling strong. Got a phonecall from SIL at 9am saying that MIL had been taken into hospital. DH rushed over there and we were hanging around at home waiting to hear from him all day. No 'proper' food in because we were going out to eat, so it was peanut butter on toast and cheese sandwiches, etc. Dh got back at 5.30, starving hungry so we went to our only local restaurant which is an American-style diner.

MIL had had a heart attack, apparently in the last few days, and what she was feeling were the after effects. She hadn't felt odd until last night. All very strange and worrying. She's being kept in for observation for at least another 24 hours, but she is comfortable now.

So, one upset and I manage to double my calorie intake for the day. I think I have real control ishoos, ie. if something throws me off course I just reach for food - carb and fat laden food. Bugger.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 21/08/2011 21:23

FoundWanting - you are being really hard on yourself. You sound as of you've had a really difficult day and circumstances meant you couldn't stay on track.

Try not to be despondant - I hope MIL is OK.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 21/08/2011 21:36

Found, hope your MIL is okay.
Unfortunately a lot of people fall into this trap of eating comfort food to combat stress and it is hard to break this habit, so please don't beat yourself up about it!
I really binged yesterday myself but today I have got back on track. Best draw a line under yesterday and have a fresh start.

FoundWanting · 21/08/2011 21:36

Thanks, Tarquin. MIL seems to be recovering well, but she is 80 now and the main carer for FIL who is slowly falling apart with old age. Sad DH knows we've got to get them more help, perhaps move them into sheltered accommodation, but they are both very stubborn and proud.

It was a big deal today, I know. But sometimes I'm just looking for the excuse to ruin a diet and I don't understand why I do it to myself

FoundWanting · 21/08/2011 21:41

Thank you too, Kara.

I will start again tomorrow.

And I did log everything, so at least I'm being honest with myself there. Smile

StealthPolarBear · 21/08/2011 22:08

oh FW, in the circumstances you have done brilliantly to log it all. Some things are more important than dieting. Glad she is recovering, and hope you can manage to get them into somewhere more suitable
