And need support

This was recommended by TheHumanCatapult and is www.foodfocus.co.uk. you start by registering your weight etc and tell it how much you want to lose. It then tells you when that will be achieved, which for me was some time in 2013 Shock. You then use it day by day to record all the food eaten, and all the exercise you have done. It is working for me so far (only day 5) because:

-Iget instant results (it tells you day by day how much it calculates you have lost, you won't see it on the scales)
-I see how much I am actually eating
-I'm in control. I can see the impact of whatever I am going to eat before I actually eat it which does help the willpower somewhat!
-It's FREE

oh dear

i have been eating pies

have recorded them though Grin

IL's are here and they are fans of the pork pie

Good that it resets itself as you lose weight but @ less than 1200kcals Shock. I suppose you get used to eating a bit less each time you take a drop. I was wondering that about exercise too Kara, it getting easier when you're lighter I mean, I tried to run and my back and knees were shot, if Iweren't so heavy it'd be easier wouldn't it???

StealthPolarBear · 25/07/2011 22:39

I have just weighed myself and I have lost most of a stone (crap scales so no idea how much in reality)

When I registered my new weight though it put my allowed calories up! Why?
Ahhhhh...I wonder if that's because I have been losing more than 2lb a week so it's trying to get me back on track?

FourThousandHoles · 26/07/2011 13:19

Grin stealth well done :)

I think you may be right about it increasing your intake to stop you losing weight faster than you want to, it's quite sophisticated isn't it?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/07/2011 16:23

Well done SPB!!! See it is working for you!

Well I went to Esquires and was a bit naughty Blush but I have recorded what I have eaten (i looked up what I had on the database but they won't be exact, just the closer thing!) and have gone over my allowed calories. However I have already accounted for dinner as I have made that already (cottage pie, just needs to finish off in the oven) and I have been more active than usual, brisk walk in Durham plus quite a bit of house work but haven't recorded that. I am still under calories burnt though!

StealthPolarBear · 26/07/2011 18:05

That's good Kara - you can see the impact, and while you haven't lost as much weight as you would have liked, you have lost weight. Bet you're not recording breastfeeding either?

Hi can I join you? Other than initial weigh after having DS in jan I've avoided the scales but today I was brave and got on them, I then went and joined food focus.

Apparently i need to eat 1831 cals a day to lose 9lbs by 6th sept (1.5lbs pw). I can then go on to tackle to the remaining 3st!

I have just been looking through the exercise list and I'm unsure what cross trainer would be logged as as it isn't on the list, does anyone know? TIA

StealthPolarBear · 26/07/2011 22:47

Hi Whyis :)
No idea on cross trainer, sorry (too much like real exercise for me!) but good luck with the weight loss

OP posts:
KaraStarbuckThrace · 27/07/2011 09:02

SPB - you would be right about the breastfeeding, that is why I have set my target at 1lb a week, as realistically I want to lose 2lb a week!

I would say cross trainer - aerobics?

WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 27/07/2011 09:27

SPB - It is for me too but DP has one sat there collecting dust so thought I'd give it a go.

Kara - Just found 'health club exercise, general'. Will assume this means gym equipment.

Let's hope for an easy to log and non-hungry day!

manicmuvvaof3 · 27/07/2011 13:16

Hello fellow food focussers! Well, our scales are a bit dodgy but I think I have lost 4lbs since starting almost two weeks ago - definitely feel thinner anyway (and blummin deserve to be as I'm starving - and shattered a lot of the time!) How is everyone else doing? Anyone else veggie and find they tend to rely on carbs too much? They are totally my downfall - crisps, potatoes, even ready made veggie burgers - which, except quorn, are surprisingly calorific! Hope you are all ok, still love to hear from healthy snacks to add to the fab ideas people have posted so far. Bye for now Smile

StealthPolarBear · 27/07/2011 18:12

Hi everyone
had a bit of a choccy day :( but have been recording everything
Yes, I'm veggie too - and my favourite food is a huge bowl of pasta :(

OP posts:
KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/07/2011 08:20

Yep one of the disadvantages of this diet is that you discover pasta and potatoes contain a lot of calories!
I did make a low cal cottage pie - I used swede to make the mash, though also included some potato. I also used Quorn mince and added leek and diced carrot to the "meaty" layer.
I'm back on track after going off the rails a bit on Tuesday! I'm now at 6lb off, just need to lose 6lbs to get to my pre-pregnancy weight!
Hope everyone is well!
One good thing is that I am definitely eating my 5 a day!

StealthPolarBear · 29/07/2011 21:43

hows everyone getting on? Diet gone a bit to pot here - too much stress, too little time. Am going to get back on track over the weekend!

OP posts:
WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 29/07/2011 23:41

DP and I going on a rare night out tomorrow which will involve meal/drinks probably both, no idea how I'm going to log that.

Not doing too bad although I over ate yesterday due to having a bag of shopping on the seat next to me and being stuck in traffic. I then managed to justify it by the fact I had under eaten the day before, my mind amazes me at times.

Getting weighed on monday so we shall see, fingers crossed for 2lbs off!

manicmuvvaof3 · 30/07/2011 08:02

Morning all! Not doing too badly sticking to fewer calories but WHY does weight always come off my face - and boobs (not much to spare in the first place Grin). Getting used to eating a bit less and snacking on fruit and veg, but the thing I struggle with is exercise; some weeks I can do a class 2 or 3 times, others I cant get there at all, just too busy - even to fit a quick walk in. Saying that, other than when MNing, I never sit around at home so I deserve to be burning a few calories at least just by normal activity!
Good luck for the weekend everyone, keep us posted on how you're doing Smile

Lotkinsgonecurly · 30/07/2011 10:23

I've just registered and am trying it for the first time. Looks quite good. Was quite amazed at how little you can eat for losing 2lbs per week. That is clearly where I've been going wrong!!!

We're off for a picnic later today so at least I can take my own things without only having a lettuce leaf on the plate.

StealthPolarBear · 30/07/2011 10:29

I know :( Pasta is my downfall

OP posts:
KaraStarbuckThrace · 30/07/2011 20:03

Why - perhaps look in the database for any ready meals that are similar to what you are having? Doesn't matter if for that day you are not hugely accurate.
You can usually guess what would be the low calorie options.

WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 30/07/2011 21:56

We went to the cinema instead and ate at home, although I did have desert. DP is still laughing at me weighing my ice-cream Blush

How are we all doing?

WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone · 31/07/2011 13:04

Couldn't resist any longer so I got weighed and have lost 4lb. Going to try hard to stick to it now. I've learnt to deal with being hungry and don't feel it so much now, but I do miss carbs!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 31/07/2011 15:57

Why - well done!! That is a great start :)

Doing okay! Made chicken casserole for lunch with new potatoes, made my own sauce from pureed veg and chopped tomatoes (for DS the veg refusnik!!).

Lotkinsgonecurly · 31/07/2011 17:52

I've just made low fat potato dauphinoise with skimmed milk very little cheese and turkey burgers done in the oven with one cal spray and salad. Kids thought was great. Am hungry and woke up with massive headache but think that could be because am now consuming far less calories than my body is used to but nearer to what it needs.!
Great thread ladies.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 31/07/2011 18:20

Oh dear. Just put it into food focus. That was quite a few calories. Nice though! At least I've got the rest of the week to make up for it.

StealthPolarBear · 31/07/2011 21:29

WhyIs, that's brilliant :o Completely agree about the hunger (a reminder the diet's working) but just wanting comfort in a huge plate of pasta!
Kara, glad you are doing OK.
Lotkins, that potato thing sounds lovely!
I ahve not had a good day diet wise - been at my aunt and uncle's so obv wasn't going to refuse :o BUT I still think I haven't put on anything and diet starts in earnest again tomorrow.

SPB - I think you can have a day off in a while!
Mine will be Friday when I am off on a MN meet up in Sheffield Grin
Weighed myself - have lost 7lbs in total, woohoo!!
