Anyone else 5 foot 4, under 10 stone and want to lose just a little bit of weight?

I have looked on a few other threads but most people have got a couple of stone or more to lose so I feel a bit out of place.

Wanted to start a support and weigh in thread for people in a similar position to me who only want to lose about a stone.

my name is hillyhilly (I like to keep things simple!)

hillyhilly · 08/06/2011 17:15

On MFP I stayed within the reccomended calories yesterday but then again I only had two meals!!!
However, today, I have accounted for 3 meals and am bang on target, I don't like to use the calories I have earned through exercise (I'm an ex- weight watchers and was the same with points) though I will need them come the wine at the weekend. This weekend I am planning to abstain on Friday night and only drink on Saturday, that should help! (dull emoticon required!!)

cremeeggsbenedict · 08/06/2011 21:20

Banking the exercise calories and staying off the booze most of the time is how to encourage the weight to drop off though, isn't it hillyhilly - I try to do the same.

I've just got back from a week away where I may possibly have drunk my bodyweight each day a little more than I possibly should have, but was quite good on the eating front. As a result I'm too scared to get on the scales, but have been good on the food and drink front since we got back and have been good in the gym - will manage 4 sessions, a long bike ride and a couple of long walks (on rest days) this week, so should manage a couple of pounds off this week - I think that's a sensible aim though, 2lbs per week. Hopefully by August I'll be nice and slim again!

azazello · 09/06/2011 15:16

Hi, can I join? I'm 5.3 and was 9.9 last weekend Sad. I was 13 stone when DS was born 18 months ago from my usual 10ish stone so I did a huge diet with weightwatchers, lots of running, lost loads of weight and felt great.

I'm now back at work and am rushing around a lot more and nibbling at birthday cake so the weight is creeping up a little bit. I want to get back to 9stone 3. I've been back on WW and am trying to run / cycle - I've signed up for a triathlon and will run home from work tonight so about 4km... I just need to learn how not to yoyo

pasqueflower · 09/06/2011 18:59

Hi azazello. A few of us here are on myfitnesspal.com - a free website and phone app which is calorie and exercise counting. You may want to take a look at it.

handbagsandshoes · 09/06/2011 21:04

Well this morning I weighed in at 62.5!!!!!!!! Yippeee hooray!!!! I've been trying super hard to eat proper portions and the "hand idea" - where did I read about that? is grand - Vege portion is the size of your outstretched hand and other stuff your palm. Fat about the size of the top of your thumb. Or something like that - it seems to be working for me. But I have a question - what is a bowl of pasta and sauce supposed to look like? I had a total blow out tonight on Pesto Pasta with chicken - topped with avocado, mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes because I just love it and it was DD2's birthday dinner request (mostly because I love it). And I totally licked the spoon and bowl and mixers bits while making her cake today....
Back to the drawing board tomorrow.
This water thing is fab for the skin!
I have a plan - I want to be 60kgs by the holidays - that is six weeks as of next week. Gives me a chance to slowly creep down there I hope.

Another question though - since it has been so long since I have been around 9.5stone I am feeling like I am getting out of my comfort zone as I get closer - does that make sense? Any one else have weird feelings about getting slimmer?

hillyhilly · 10/06/2011 10:54

I have a question on MFP, cam you look at the weekly nutrient totals? I'm finding that section quite interesting, but eg on Monday I was way over on vit A but way under ever since, I would think that doesn't matter too much over a week.
I totally loved the fact that I could have a guilt free glass of wine last night when I fancied it as I was way under my daily count when exercise included, allthe pleasure, none of the guilt! Grin

cremeeggsbenedict · 17/06/2011 09:14

I have had a really good week this week. Good on the food front, eating proper portions, healthy snacking, no wine, coming in under 1500 calories a day. Good on the exercise front, 2 classes, 2 decent workouts, rest day today to recover, no post exercise binging (have been working out before lunch so use lunch as post exercise fuel). And I've gained a bloody pound! How? Am really cross as I've been working really hard.

Grumble, grumble, grumble.

Korinna · 17/06/2011 10:11

Hello can I join?

I am 167 cm tall and 64 kg (I think it's 5.6 and 10.4 stones?) - I would like to be 58/59 (9.4 stones) so I have not got masses to lose but it's just not shifting! I was (am) doing slimming world but I was (am) the lightest by far in my group- all the other ladies that had tens of kgs (or many stones) to lose were losing half a stone per minute and I would just go down grams (quarter pounds) to then put it back on the week of my period! It was (is) really annoying as I ended up having really large ladies who would not walk if their derriere was on fire going all superior and lecturing me about yogurt and 'free foods' when I am possibly eating 1/3 of what they do!

So I think I will keep on going to SW but will try to keep it lighter on carbs they suggest, in the past the staying light on carbs worked really well. I also exercise - I have a really good (gym type) exercise bike at home and I go for 50 minutes 3 times a week and 1.20 hrs on Saturday and Sundays. i have not got a car and walk the school run twice a day, for a total of about 6 k (3.5 miles)

I am 42 and have 2 DS aged 7 and 11. i work from home, full time, in a very interesting and stimulating academic job that is so sedentary i do not even blink.

What is working for all of you?

cremeeggsbenedict - are you near your period?

handbagsandshoes · 18/06/2011 12:00

Hello everyone - I am feeling mighty please with myself because I have been for a grand total of 2 runs this week! I've downloaded couch to 5km and have done the first podcast twice. I feel great and have dropped to 62.1kgs!

Slowly, slowly but surely. My toddler has been breastfeeding heaps at night, so that might be helping....my knee is a bit dodgy so I've braced it - fingers crossed it doesn't fall apart.

I am finding it much harder to lose weight these days and am beginning to wonder if age is creeping into it now (soon turning 40). This is pretty depressing if it is so. Is anyone else experiencing that too? I also haven't had my periods back yet after my last baby but am expecting to start in the next few months - that will probably put a spanner in the works too.

Any ideas for dealing with getting old and periods and losing weight? I'd like to lose another 4kgs if I can.

LawrieMarlow · 18/06/2011 12:41

I am 5 foot 4 and was around 10 stone about 18 months ago. Ate better, exercised more and went down to about 9 stone last year. Then had big relationship problems and went down to about 8.5 stone.

Now H has moved out I keep eating badly now and am getting nearer to 9 stone. That is OK but am concerned I am going to keep putting on weight. Need to go running again or eat less junk. Or both.

But am v lacking in motivation....

Clarence15 · 18/06/2011 17:15

I'll join you if I may. I'm 9stone 5 and 5ft 3, ideally I'd like to be 9 st or less. I hold all my weight on my stomach which is a bit depressing but I do eat rubbish sometimes which bloats me.

Can I ask a question about body-confidence though? As you are all a similar height and weight to me, how do you feel about your size? Would you wear a bikini for instance? Are you fairly happy or do you feel too big?

I'm always a bit self conscious but having recently been on holiday for the first time in ages and seeing how confident some ladies of all shapes and sizes seem to be, I've felt much better and didn't bother about baring my flesh. Just wondered how you all felt?

pasqueflower · 18/06/2011 18:49

Hi clarence. I am hoping to get to about 8st 12 and wear a bikini again. But also trying to tone up as well. I'm 5ft 3ins.

pasqueflower · 18/06/2011 18:50

Oh, I find cutting down on carbs, especially wheat, really helps to combat bloat.

MissPenteuth · 18/06/2011 20:05

Can I join please? I'm 5' 4" and 8st 10lbs, I'd like to be 8st 7lb. I've been struggling to lose the last few lbs for months; I exercsise lots but still eat too much, and am lacking the motivation that I had when I had more weight to lose. I keep losing then re-gaining the same 2lbs.

The weight I want to lose is all round my tummy; I'm going to be a bridesmaid in 3 months' time so I'd really love to lose the last few lbs by then.

MissPenteuth · 21/06/2011 15:23

Was it something I said? :(

How's everyone doing?

foreverondiet · 21/06/2011 16:43

MissPenteuth I am also 5 4 and 8 10! I don't know what I want to be as I'm at my lightest ever adult weight, although I suspect I am close, if not already at it.

Best way to loose weight around tummy - cut out all sugar and carbs from diet. Do the 2 week induction from P2T or south beach or atkins or a week of dukan attack followed by week of dukan cruise, and it will be gone!

After 2 weeks once you are at your target gradually introduce small quantities of unrefined carbs back into diet, eg fruit & wholegrains.

I also do MFP, helps knowing I have to log everything I eat.

HerMajestiesSecretCervix · 21/06/2011 18:47

63.5 kilos still but I have vowed to shift the next 3 kilos before our holiday in 4 weeks. I have to.

I am going to low carb it but I am Veggie and have an intolerance of quorn. Any helpful suggestions as to what to eat would be appreciated.

foreverondiet · 21/06/2011 19:47

if you are veggie and can't eat quorn then only options are tofu/soya, eggs and dairy (cottage cheese and greek yoghurt lowest carb options) - I don't think possible to do low carb as veggie esp without quorn - maybe add other pulses? or try whey/hemp protein powder?

hillyhilly · 22/06/2011 08:55

I finally lost a pound this morning (it was gone yesterday too so not a fluke) - after a weekend where I did eat and especially drink a lot! However, I did also do quite a lot of exercise and did exercise some restraint here and there, I think for me there is a time lag, so this weeks loss reflects the week before lasts exemplary behaviour so I'd better be super good this week else last weekends naughtiness will put it straight back on again! (which is the story of my life really)

cremeeggsbenedict · 24/06/2011 08:49

Hurrah - have shifted 2lbs this week, so net one lb down! I assume that last week's anomoly was either a late addition from the holiday I went on the previous week (ate OK, drank too much, no exercise) or hormones. I have the mirena so I have no idea about my cycle - no periods, but I guess I might still get the hormonal weight gain/moods. May have to start tracking those, although the moods may show me as premenstrual all the time Smile.

I joined MFP this week too - it's fantastic. DH has joined it too as he is trying to shift a stone, which really helps in terms of cooking suppers/snacks round the house. The iPhone app is super as I can literally track whilst on the move too - why did I not do it before!

I've also decided to totally cut out alcohol, which may or may not be sensible given that we have dinner with my inlaws tonight. It's just empty calories, I eat too much when drinking, I eat too much when I'm hungover and I can't work out on a hangover so I don't get my exercise fix. Last time I drank was last Saturday (low alcohol wine) and I'm not drinking from now to target, which is 9stone 6lbs, just 9lbs to go.

How much is everyone else exercising? I am gymming 5 times per week at the moment and doing lots of walking on top. I'm wondering whether to throw in another class or something or just going for a long bike ride on one of my rest days.

pasqueflower · 24/06/2011 09:45

I've paid the price for a weekend away - put on about llb instead of losing.

I'm 5ft 3in and now just over 9st but would like to be at least 8st 12lb by July 19th.

I think next week I'll go for low carb and no alcohol to try to shift those pounds, but will also keep logging on MFP. My lifestyle makes it difficult though - hectic and unpredictable schedule makes it hard to stick to low carb.

cremeeggsbenedict · 24/06/2011 09:49

If you're a bit hectic and unpredictable can you maybe bulk make suppers/lunches so they're all ready and you can grab something as soon as you get in/get up to take to work? It's dull, but I could probably happily eat the same thing all week to give myself a kickstart on a diet.

Thinking back to the weight I lost last year, no alcohol really works. I just wish we could be like men who can just give up booze, not change their eating/exercise habits and still drop half a stone in 3 weeks! Envy

roulade · 25/06/2011 17:28

I have now lost 8lbs using food focus in 6 weeks. I am finding it really easy and haven't been tempted to cheat.

HannahHack · 25/06/2011 17:34

I'm in, I'm 9stone 2 and 5'2'' and would like to loose just another 4 lb. I lost 1.5 stone last year and have kept it off but wold like to go the extra bit further.

As I am not fat it is quite difficult to motivate myself.
