Ooh I love almond cake tortoise, sorry to hear about the job, have you thought of doing some voluntary work to get some experience?

Today I have had

Breakfast - porridge with hemp seeds and raisins, green tea
Lunch - 4 ryvitas with cheese spread & cheddar cheese, yogurt
snacks - 2 tangerines, 10 almonds, 1 teaspoon peanut butter, pear
dinner - spag bol made with quorn mince.

Thanks for the recipe theothermrsclooney have got some cream and butter in the fridge but I think I'll put creme fraiche on my shopping list this weekSmile

Did you do any cycling today Furball?

Furball · 09/06/2011 07:27

smalline do you just eat the peanut butter off a spoon?

no cycling or any exercise, (apart from just under a mile walk on school run) yesterday. But am planning another 10 mile cycle after dropping ds off this morning.

Smalline · 09/06/2011 07:57

Yes I do Furball, I find it very satisfying when I am peckish.

Wow 10 miles, do you have beautiful surroundings on route?

Furball · 09/06/2011 08:03

I like peanut butter smalline but not off the spoon!

we live in beautiful countryside. but the problem with that is you need to go on either busy or narrow roads to get anywhere, which can make it a very hairy ride.

If I have any puff left I may do another 5 miles. the thought that that will burn off 750 calories in one go is too much temptation to try.

Furball · 09/06/2011 09:49

did 10 miles Smile - thought another 5 might just finish me off Grin

Tortoise · 09/06/2011 09:57

10 miles is great.Smile
Peanut butter is the work of the devil! Eww! Lol. Although peanut butter and weetabix cookies are delicious!

In the last 3 hrs I have scoffed
Half a banana (over ripe, wasn't nice!)
Piece of almond cake
Flapjack
Piece of battenburg
2x rocky bars
Hula hoops.
Feeling bad about all that. I need to go to the doctors. I think I am depressed. Started a thread yesterday which was a good 1st step. Now need to work on making that appointment. Can't go on like this.Sad

OP posts:
Smalline · 09/06/2011 17:47

No Tortoise you cannot go on like this, you have made the first step by acknowledging how you feel, take the next step and make the appointment, it may be a while before you can see him, do it, if not for you then for your DC. I am sorry that you are feeling the way you doSad.

Furball · 09/06/2011 18:34

tortoise Sad

Glad you are getting help. We do love you and hate to see you suffer Smile

I hope you are put back on the right rails soon. please please please holla if there is anything we can do. I'm sure I speak for Smalline too - we really wouldn't mind, especially if it could help.

Feel free to post here, no matter how undiet related. I have no personal experience of this sort of thing, but I don't mind listening if it helps you Smile

Tortoise · 09/06/2011 20:44

Thank you (posting through misty eyes).
Making an appointment is a huge next step for me. Please keep nagging me nicely to do it. I thought about picking up the phone a few times today but just couldn't do it Sad.

Rest of days food been bad. Pie, snickers, 3 bakewell slices, 1 bag crisps. I think that is all so far. [bad] Good to write it down. I wasn't going too. Am embarrassed how much i put away in a day.

Hi ladies it's the weekend again, can't believe that nearly half the year has gone by already. It's a bit chilly here, forecasted to rain this afternoon, do you think we have had our Summer, hope not!!!

How are you feeling today tortoise, have you made that call?Smile, if not, please do it now, just imagine that you are calling to make a routine appointment for yourself, thing is if you had to make an appointment for your DC you wouldn't hesitate, well this is for your and your DC so please do it now.

Oh yes and I totally agree with everything furball said, talk as much as you like and let us know if there is anything we can do to help [pm us if that helps].

Tortoise · 10/06/2011 13:25

It is shocking how quick the year passes! And i still have no money saved up for Christmas! Was meant to have plenty saved by now!
'Under a black cloud' kind of describes how i feel today. I feel OK when around DC or walking with a friend but as soon as we part at her house i am alone again which kind of describes how i am most of the time, alone.
Actually, i felt OK just now playing ball with our dog in the field. Suppose it takes my mind of things!

Furball · 10/06/2011 15:14

have you made that phonecall yet tortoise

and also buy a local paper for other jobs! you never know....

If you can't get paid work ask at school if they need any help with reading/swimming lessons/school trips etc. just to give your mind something different. ‎If they don't know you are willing they won't ask you. Smile

I currently help with Rounders at PE and love it!

Tortoise · 10/06/2011 18:14

Not yet furball.Sad
I have been checking paper, nothing that doesn't need experience or qualifications. Local shops tend to advertise jobs in the window.
Going to think about volunteering at local charity shop for experience.Smile

What would you like to do Tortoise?

One of my friends was really keen to find something that fits in to school hours and did quite a lot of parent help until a TA role came up. As she was helping out quite a bit it went in her favour.

If you would prefer shop work/coffee shop keep an eye out for ads in local shops go in talk to the manager about the role. Ask what type of person they are looking for and if experience matters offer to work for free for a couple of hours to show you would be suitable. Enthusiasm and interest are as important as experience. Think about the skills you have gained being a mum - good listening skills, able to multi task, ability to prioritise, budgeting, crisis management etc. These are all relevant.

Depression is awful and isolating. Do try and get some help, you would see a dr if you broke you leg and couldn't function properly? This is the same. Eating fills some of the hollowness but only temporarily, I know, many years ago I weighed over 18st and it was all due to comfort eating. I thought I had dealt with it but the had lots of things happen in the last couple of yrs that plunged me back there. I felt like I was just existing and worrying. My GP listened and wanted to prescribe medication. I decided it wasn't for me and made the decision to sort out my life. Taking control helped as did going back to work. My sister has suffered from depression/anxiety as long as I can remember and does take medication as well as seeing a counsellor and this really helps here. I guess I am saying that there isn't one answer but I do find little steps to take control back help. One of those steps can be asking for help.

Tortoise · 11/06/2011 15:55

Theother If I could, I would work with little children/babies but there is no nursery close enough and pre-school would need me to have nvq3 which is basically impossible for me to get at the moment. Child minding is out too.
See, today I feel ok but dc are at home. Still can't really be bothered to do much inc housework!

OP posts:
theothermrsclooney · 11/06/2011 17:58

tortoise I don't think you need qualifications to be a TA? Is childminding out because of space? How about nannying?

Tortoise · 11/06/2011 19:41

Not sure about TA but i like working with pre-school so not keen on TA role. Partly space for CM but also have 2 dogs and don't drive. Also takes ages to get set up.
Would love to nanny but again being a non-driver will go against me. And would need to be school time/term time only! Would be amazing if a role like that came up lol!

OP posts:
theothermrsclooney · 11/06/2011 21:14

School time/term time etc will be an issue for lots of employers unfortunately. Have you thought about doing Avon or something like that to earn extra money? Also gets you out the house and meeting other people?
