Welcome one and all to our 6th thread

If you're just starting out or you've been following WW for a while and you're looking for support you've come to the right place!

There are lots of regulars who are well on their weigh (get it! ) Grin and others who have just joined us - we're a mixed bag, all shapes and sizes and all with different goals to achieve but we're all striving for the same thing. We're all here to will one another on with advice, support and lots of cheering! :)

Androbbob is our resident stat checker and keeps us motivated by totting up the total weight loss each week.

So far we have lost an amazing 147 lbs since jan 2011 Shock

We're quite fast moving at times so just dive in - pour yourself a Wine or Brew and make yourself at home :)

Am sneaking back after a few weeks - boy Easter was bad. Had a great result at weigh-in today though, 3lbs off, 10lbs overall and my 5% goal reached! Now aiming for 10%.

WW online pissed on my chips a bit though, telling me that I'm losing weight too fast. Party poopers

vnmum · 11/05/2011 18:50

welcome caro, sorry can't help with the paypal thing as i paid by direct debit.

MrsK WW online always does that if you lose more than 2lb

MrsKwazii · 11/05/2011 19:52

Thanks vnmum, that's good to know. Made me want to eat a cake!

IHeartIona · 11/05/2011 20:59

JoJo - sounds like we are getting back on track at the same time! I also did first day of eating dailies only on Mon, and have done the same till today as well. I had an aero choc dessert (3pp) to make up the figures tonight!!
also did the shred yesterday and today, it really helps me feel better about myself. Iceland do 5 curly wurlies for a pound in case you ever want to stock up on them...
Sorry to hear about job.
LittleFriend thanks for the recipe, think I will try it too, sounds tasty
loublou wow well done at only putting on 1/2 lb on hol. were you chasing after your twins?
froot I'll keep you posted on my bns plants. I've never grown them before but our new house we moved into last summer has a greenhouse so I am awash with plants at the moment. got toms, cuc, lettuce, carrots, peppers, chard, mini corn, courgettes, pumpkins, basil, parsley and strawberries. hopefully it will help the PP plan during the summer!!
Wynken 13 bns from 4 plants! that's great, I didn't realise they fruit so much. might keep mine in the garage if I get any. your allotment and grand opening sounds great.
HHY I hope the results are good for your dad, and that the doctors are barking up the wrong tree.
hmc how did you get on? sounds like loads of walking!
Carey well done on 3lbs, that is great loss
Shoulders well done on 2.5lbs in a week when so close to goal, that is great too
vnmum hope you've had a few more points now, and are feeling a bit better

I made a nice ww recipe shepherd's pie for dinner tonight that should have been with parsnip and potato topping, but I changed it to BNS and potato topping. That meant I didn't need any yogurt to make the mash creamy, so managed to make it 9pp per serving rather than 12pp shown in the recipe, bargain!
My WI is tomorrow, and am hoping for a small loss since I've been good since Mon and only used daily points (will have used all weeklies over the weekend though, when I hadn't started tracking again yet). fingers crossed!

tiredemma · 11/05/2011 21:18

My first 'real' day- used 25 points. I honestly could not eat another 4 points. I actually feel really 'full up' (content???) Normally at this hour I am reaching for the chocolate.

I really hope that this works.

Willabywallaby · 11/05/2011 21:21

4lb off for me tonight. Taking me to 10% off. Set my goal, 5 more to go.

tiredemma · 11/05/2011 21:24

thats excellent willaby. well done!!

LolaLadybird · 11/05/2011 21:33

Susan and Androbob - thanks for the explanation re name-checking, having 2 tabs open is not rocket science, can't believe I couldn't work that out for myself (doh! Blush). Anyway, check out my name checking now Grin Grin ...

Carey - glad the date went well, loving the idea of your new exercise regime!

HHY - sorry to hear about your dad, fingers crossed for the results

Blondes - I echo what everyone else has said about taking it easy on yourself diet-wise, I think you just need to focus on trying to stay healthy at the moment, it's so easy to get run-down physically when you're going through such an emotionally difficult time (easier said than done though I guess)

MrsK - sounds like we're at a similar stage, I'm also at 10.5 lbs and just got my 5% (WW didn't tell me I'm losing weight too fast though! Envy Wink

Willaby - well done, great result

On the subject of weight to lose, I don't have an official goal but the top of my range with WW is 11st9 which means another 2 stone to lose but I guess I won't know how accurate that is until I get closer (seems a v long way away currently although definitely achievable hearing everyone's encouraging stories on this thread).

SpringFollows · 12/05/2011 06:11

Hi everyone, may I join you? I went to my first ever WW meeting on Tuesday, after several years struggling on my own. with my weight yo-yoing all over the place. Have bought the WW and SW magazines for years, but never had the courage to walk into a meeting. I am SO glad I did. I went a little wild and bought the essentials kit and a pedometer and I feel quite enthusiastic.

I am 5ft 5. 11 stone 4 according to the WW scales (i.e. more than mine. :( ) and my personal goal weight is 9.7 - 9.10 stone.

Yesterday I ate all my 29 points, plus my 6 earned activity points and 13 weekly extras. (Out at a party).

Loved reading this thread!

NoWayNoHow · 12/05/2011 07:35

Morning all

Welcome carocaro and springfellows and welcome back kawzii! Tell WW online so stop pissing on your chips (I love that, may I use it all day, every day when people irritate me?). Most people have a bigger loss after being off track a bit. Stupid eSource.

IHeart your shepherd's pie sounds delicious - have you tried the WW recipe for healthy cottage pie? Similar thing except they use normal potato and sweet potato for the topping, but I can't see why BNS wouldn't substitute equally well for the sweet potato? The recipe is filled with veg as well, and is really delicious.

tiredemma congrats on getting through your first day - it's quite something when you realise that the foods that are better for you leave you feeling better too. However, I'm sure someone else will be along to mention this too - as full as you are feeling, you must finish your dailies, otherwise you slow down your weight loss. If you can't eat any more, then use it on Wine!! Grin

willaby that's an amazing loss, well done!! At this rate, you'll be at goal next week!

lola 2st is most definitely achievable, and yes it might take a little while, but that's how you'll keep it off. Keep looking to the inspirational stories on here, some women have done amazingly well in the last 3-4 months with losses aroud what you're aiming for.

Well, WI for me this morning, and considering how much I feel like the Michelin man bloated I am from TOTM, I'm quite pleased that I've only registered a 0.5lb gain. Last time AF was here, I put on 1.5lbs overnight in water! So, because it's holiday time tomorrow, and because I'm feeling optimistic in the world, I'm going to assume that I've actually lost 1lb of weight and that 1.5lbs is water retention! Please feel free not to piss on my chips if I'm deluding myself!! Grin (seriously, that actually might be the best phrase I've ever heard!)

vnmum · 12/05/2011 08:14

morning all, quick pop in bwfore school run.
welcome springfellows, well done on that fab loss willaby, commiserations noway on the slight gain but you are probably right in your assumptions Smile

I am reporting a 1lb loss this morning, so i am still within my gold member band and only 2lb over my official goal weight.

I am also seriously considering becoming a leader. I need to find out all the ins and outs etc of how it works but there is a lack of daytime meetings in my area and lots of mums with kids whose hubby's might not be around at night to babysit, so i think i could fill a gap, especially if i make the meetings child friendly during the day, what do you all think? I would be competeing with quite a few slimming world classes though.

good luck to any others who are weighing in today

NoWayNoHow · 12/05/2011 08:28

Just lost my whole friggin' post. Grrrr Angry

Try again...

vnmum I would definitely consider doing a day time meeting, and don't forget that mums wouldn't be your only target market for those meetings.

My WW was at 10:30am, and it was 35% mums with/without children and the rest were 55yo+ ladies (and one man!). I'm sure if you offered a day time meeting, the older members would prefer that over an evening meeting.

Also, I don't think SW meetings will have much impact. IME, WW and SW members are at each others' thoats like atheists and catholics, and are fiercely protective of their own brand. The amount of times I've heard, "Oh, WW, don't say that dirty word round here, I go to SW". I think it far more likely that you will poach some SW members who are disillusioned than the other way round (but then again, that's coming from the biased WW point of view! Grin )

hoops997 · 12/05/2011 08:30

Hello all,

Well today I am treating myself for being good, I have a day off work and have booked myself in at the local health spa, DS is at childminder, did Zumba last night and am feeling it a bit in the legs Grin

Managed to squeeze myself in a size 12 pair of trousers this morning, I haven't been able to get them on since before DS, and he's 13 months old, so feeling good ahead of my WI this evening Grin

Well done to all losers, we can do it!!

vnmum · 12/05/2011 09:17

hoops the spa sounds nice, DH has promised me a day at a spa when he gets back from afghan next year, i just have to pick a nice one thats not too far away. well done on the trousers too.

noway I'm not entirely sure if ww tell you where you can do meetings or if you can choose yourself. Where i live the closest meeting is a couple of miles away at 6.30pm on a thursday and the only other ones are 7 miles away at 12.00 on wed, and 9 miles away for a morning meeting. There are alot of little villages around me that i think could be good places to do meetings too, especially for the older ladies. I personally struggle to get to a meeting here because the 12.00 one is right over nursery drop off time so can't do that one, and the evening one is only suitable if DH is around to have the kids (i'm not taking a 5 and 3 yo at that time of night, it's bath and bed time) as i don't have anyone else to have them for an hour or so. The other morning meetings are too far to travel just to WI IYSWIM. I also have a friend who says she would love to join WW but needs a daytime meeting so that was what got me thinking about it really. I also know what you mean about the WW/SW thing. I've tried both and am definately in the WW camp and quite protective of it i have to say,lol

JoJoBaldwin · 12/05/2011 09:25

willaby fantastic loss, well done!
vnmum child-friendly groups would be brilliant. I was made to feel very very unwelcome at local ww because my toddler was going through a screamy phase. Have you thought about maybe doing a meeting in a local soft play centre? They are often looking for extra activities to bring people in, say early mornings and mums would love it as kids could go play while they weigh-in and listen to the leader talk.

Well only had one small slice of birthday cake last night and the rest has stayed in the fridge without being wolfed down for breakfast. That's the good news. The bad news is I drank way too much and had 3 fajitas (and have a dim memory of scoffin bread and butter around midnight).

Going to take daughter out to friend's house today who is also doing ww so should be safe from hangover munchies there!

herdingcats · 12/05/2011 10:01

Hello everyone -welcome all the new folks. I can't name check as I'm losing the plot trying to keep up ! The thread is moving like an express train atm.
Seems like on the whole we are all osing well, and others are just having slight blips.
WI last night and I lost another 1lb, only another 4lb to 10%, and 18lb to go until I get to goal.I would lke to get another 10lb off for my personal goal though. That seems such a lot when I see it in print Shock
Lady who I go with got told off last night as she lost 6lb , making it 15lb in 4 weeks. She says she is eating all her PP, but even I find that difficult to believe.

hmc · 12/05/2011 11:22

Some fab losses since I posted yesterday so very well done to: herding, teaandcrumpets, mistle, MrsKwazi, Willaby and Vnmum

NoWay - afaic a 0.5lb gain is an STS; it is so marginal!

Had my WI yesterday - thanks for the good luck vibes. Lost just 0.5lbs but very happy, since have been getting flash backs to the several packets of dry roasted peanuts in my backpack on the walking trip (8pp per small packet) and the cheese board and port I polised off on two separate occasions after eating a pub meal [eek!]. So all in all, was a fair result!

Commiserations Jojo on job

Sending love in direction of Blondes and HHY who didn't post yesterday - hope you are both okay...

Whitershadeofpale · 12/05/2011 12:54

Feeling a bit nervous, going to my first meeting tonight. I've never done anything like this before and have no idea what to expect. Really ready to change now.

mistlethrush · 12/05/2011 13:00

Hi whiter! Its not that bad, don't worry!!! I hope that your leader is nice and that you have a postive meeting tonight.

I cba yesterday and certainly didn't finish my points up. Made tea for mistlechick, put him to bed, dh went out to a meeting (where he ate pizza Hmm) and just lost the will to do anything really... was contemplating one of the recipes that have been copied down as they sound great... but ended up eating a khol rabbi with a bit of tomato ketchup which, I think, was the only points of the evening Blush

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 12/05/2011 13:03

Just popping in very quickly to report 4.5 lb loss.

vnmum · 12/05/2011 14:17

well done herding and wynken and hmc on the losses

Welcome whiter. Don't worry about tonight, just remember everyone is there for the same reason

Whitershadeofpale · 12/05/2011 15:33

Thanks, I'll let you know how it went tomorrow.

Shakti · 12/05/2011 16:13

Hi

Could anyone give me a quick overview of the pro points please?

I need a medium to long term plan but have definitely found in the past that protein rich carb low diets make me feel better. Can you do this approach in the pro points? I am thinking about joining the online version.

JoJoBaldwin · 12/05/2011 16:34

Hi Shakti, I don't see why the 2 approaches can't be combined. Think it would help to go to one meeting to get the introductory bumpf, including the points calculator. The amount of pp you are allowed in one day depends upon your current height and weight - the minimum is 29pp per day with an additional weekly allowance of 49 (or is it 45, I've just got a mental block) which can be used all at once on a blowout or for a little bit extra each day. Jury's out on whether you should eat all your weeklies or not.

You also earn activity points for exercise you do.

Most fruit and veg are free, exceptions being avocado, potato, sweetcorn. So it depends how low carb you want to go - it's good to bulk up on free stuff! I assume you want to stay away from refined carbs like bread and pasta which would work well with this eating plan.

froot · 12/05/2011 17:40

Oh no ! Half a muffin jumped into my mouth when I wasn't looking shortly followed by half a slice of coffee cake .... Ah well could have been worse could have been whole muffin and whole slice . Seemed to have lost a couple of lbs this week WI not til Monday tho so must make sure I point properly over weekend . Just been to guildford for my bi annual Botox top up ( yes I really That vain Blush ) and had a squirt of fillers too - stung like the blazes but bloody fantastic result instantly. Damn I wish wobblesome thighs loose tummy and droopy boobs could be fixed so easily !
