All right, when you've un-cringed from the above -

I'm about to (re-)embark on Slimming World and since I have neither the time nor the funds to go to classes could really do with a coupla pals for those delicious weekly morning weigh-ins. Is anyone interested? I guess it would be ideal if we were all SWing, but it ain't essential. It's the praise or blame I need, alongside willing recipients of lengthy descriptions of the size of my arse Grin.

Few stats (and needless to say we needn't go in for actual weights here)

I lost 3.5 stone a couple of years ago on SW, and have gained about 20lb of that. I KNOW! Silly bint.

As a first step I want to lose 10lb because this will take me into the 'light enough for IVF' category (I have 6 months left before referral for fertility treatment and if not pregnant by then would like to arrive in the pink of health).

After that I would like to lose another 10lb and say 'hello stranger!' to my sad neglected wardrobe of vintage frocks.

Finally, if you are interesting in hanging out, would you mind awfully looking in the mirror and checking that you actually are properly overweight?! Because nothing would depress me more than celebrating getting into a size 16 dress, when everyone else on the thread was lamenting finding their size 10 skinnies a little snug Hmm

Right. I'll now sit back and await rejection. Alpine my luvva, if you're reading this do join!

xpost with obrigada - welcome!!!

I'm doing extra easy and its pretty simples.
I tend to have 28g of branfles(healthy extra B) with fruit and ff nat yog for breakfast, JP with tuna or beans/omlette/stirfry veg and cous cous for lunch and then meat or fish with pots and veg for dinner, Milk as my healthy extra A for tea dn coffee.
Does that help
apologies for lack of punctuation etc - one hand typing!

obrigada · 10/05/2011 11:47

Hi Cheese, thanks for welcome:) thanks for suggested meal plan, just want to be prepared and start off right.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 10/05/2011 13:11

no worries, i always have to plan out the days food! And the weekly shop or we end up with a load of food that doesn't form any meals!!

BlooferLady · 10/05/2011 13:22

Welcome Obrigada!

Yes YES to meal planning. If you're like me, ie hopeless, rigid planning i the only way to go. As if have managed rigid truthful planning for, oh, 3 days of this week, we shall see what good it does Hmm

I did just triumph in Hall, however. I had my jacket potato and HE cheese as planned, added some coleslaw, discovered on closer inspection that the coleslaw was so loaded with mayo it would probably be about 15 syns, and threw it away .

B: cherries, greek yoghurt, almonds, honey
L: avocado, prawns, sun-dried toms, pinenuts, black beans, radishes, spring onions, tomatoes, olive oil, balsalmic
D: cauliflower cheese

BlooferLady · 10/05/2011 13:32

Apline, on your diet not only are you going to get thinner but I strongly suspect you're going to live to 102, minimum

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 10/05/2011 13:39

Well as we all know my body does not like to shift weight, but I do try and keep an eye on the nutritional value of what I eat. I may be fat, but I don't need to imbibe "beige" food and burgers. Although it does put the fat-bashers right off their stride! Wink

I never understood that, you know, you'd read these articles in "Chat" magazine or whatever it was and they'd say things like "oh yeh, 10 rounds of toast before a pound of bacon for elevenses, 6 fried eggs, blah blah and for supper a big mag supersize meal" - and I'd think "fuck me, if I ate like that I'd need to wash maahself with a raaag on a stick!". Wink

BlooferLady · 10/05/2011 13:47

Grin @ 'rag on a stick' !!!

Yar, someone said upthread that the big downfall of SW is the whole 'unlimited food' thing. As any fule kno, unlimited anything isn't going to make you take up less space. I am going to stick with it a while simply because I need a framework of some kind, and can't be doing with weighting things; but what I need to take from it is the PRINCIPLE of the thing - ie that you can eat more fresh fruit, veg and low fat meat and carbs, some but not too much cheese and grains, and really not that much sugar and high fat biz.

Am DREADING tomorrow. Because I really have been trying these last few days. If tomorrow and the DoD following there's no real joy (and I mean more than one fucking pound - I could lose that in a wee, never mind a morning shite!) I will have to think of another 'framework'. It's just with The Deadline looming I really can't face spending days and days painstakingly getting to know a new diet plan.

And no I can't just 'eat healthily'. I know some people lose loads of weight that way but I am not one of them tragically.

Ah......! Too. Many. Messages. Please will you all slow down! By the time I've nearly caught up I've usually got to go and do something else/pick DD up/walk the dogs etc. And then there are hundreds of ideas or questions I want to respond to and I haven't got time to type them all out before there is another 20 messages.

Bloofer yes I'm happy to carry on listing. Has it been decided what format the listing will take? Like this one from Stinkypinky

StinkyPinky h 5"8, start weight 17st 5lb, total lost 1st 5lb, this week ?

Please add in whatever info you like - I'll probably add a target in there on my line.

If you can all PM me in this sort of format today and tomorrow, I'll be able to sort the list out in no time at all, winner at the top.

Not had a great week here......have taken on board all the advice given to Bloofer and am now refocussed. i find it very difficult not to spend evening grazing if I have nice food in the house..........Didn't go to my meeting this morning as I took DD to a swimming lesson instead, and really couldn't face the prospect of an inquisitive DD in SW meeting first. Will weigh tomorrow morning.

Fish am so sorry to hear your news re your job. What a horrible thing to happen now, when you should be all happy and jolly.

Will catch up with rest later - off to ballet now, in the rain.

duckymum · 10/05/2011 14:30

Huuuum. Sigh.

Alpine, I can sympathise to an extent, though think I am probably worse. I have always said I eat really healthily - just go on to supplement with a whole pile of crap. I cook nearly all meals from scratch, eat loads of fruit and veg etc. but am also prone to baking lovely cakes and eating 90% of them by myself, or going to a cafe and being unable to resist; or just getting stressed out and, unable to sit down and eat a meal because I am busy, hoovering up a packet of biscuits or chocolate, then still eating the meal an hour later.

Why do I even have these things in the house? Because they were a bargain. Yes I have fallen for the marketing and the offers that aren't - I know it, and yet still I fall. However (polising halo) I walked past the reduced price creme eggs in the shop this morning. I have low fat yoghurt instead. (Full price and everything)

I was thinking today about the only times I lost weight without really intending to. Twice while pregnant (Probably due to the vastly reduced quantities off wines beers and spirits imbibed); only other time was in first year at university - I used to go into the canteen, look at the sorry meals on offer and head to the salad bar instead. Tuna / mackerel & salad 5 times a week + a lot of cycling = weight loss without thought. Sadly the next year I was cooking for myself and it was all downhill from there. Don't think the family would be impressed at that menu. However I have had tuna & salad for lunch.

This has turned into another rambling wittering post, quite cathartic to get it out if you will forgive. Didn't get my soup made yesterday, so Dh made grilled asparagus with new potatoes (2 only) & ham. And bought ice cream for my sore throat - how could I say no? No more tonight though, just strawberries. And hopefully I will make the soup.

nappyaddict · 10/05/2011 16:39

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how many syns there are in Flora Cuisine. It's similar to frylight but you can use it in baking and I don't think it's syn free

BlooferLady · 10/05/2011 16:46

Hello nappy! No, sorry - my SW syn list is about a year old, so it won't be there I don't think.

Ramblin' & witterin' is what it's all about Ducky... Grin

OP posts:
Onlyaphase · 10/05/2011 17:03

Nappyaddict Flora Cuisine has 1.5 syns per teaspoon, 4.5 per tablespoon on all meal plans

I've got online access to the SW site if anyone else needs Syns values at any time.

Ducky i could have written the first two paragraphs of your post. I am dreadful at snacking whilst I cook then sitting down to eat a full meal. And I keep a lot of crap in the house as well, have lots of "reasons" for this, but nothing that would stand up to scrutiny. Currently we have an old family friend doing some fairly major digging and earth moving for us at our house, and I feed him lunch and lots of cups of tea during the day. This guy loves homebaking and, frankly, works better and faster for a regular dose of sugar, so I bake rock cakes, biscuits, cakes etc for him, and then we all end up eating them. Sigh. Still, he should be finished later today.

WhatTheActualFuck · 10/05/2011 19:37

Ducky, I think you are me. Or maybe I am you Grin. I too make lovely healthy, nutritious meals from scratch....and then snack on shite between times. And I can't just have one biscuit/piece of chocolate, oh no...

I've looked at doing SW a few times and recently a friend has started her own class (and very well she's doing at it too) so I've discussed it with her at length. It just won't work for me because it encourages you to eat loads. Eating loads is my problem! the only thing that works for me is strict portion control and watching the calories...no more that 1200-1400 per day. Fucking soul destroying but it works...when I can stick to it.

Also, the cynic in me says that the SW, WW etc don't want you to succeed at weight loss and they are encouraging people to become dependent on a regime that they have to keep buying into in order to see the results, and then continue to buy in to maintain their goal weight if they get to it.

But what do I know. Maybe if I'd done either WW or SW instead of going it alone, I'd be strutting around in a teeny bikini now? I'll be fucking gutted if that's true Grin.

Today has been a good day...I'm still reeling from yesterday's swimwear horror show I may have to return to M&S changing rooms to take a picture of myself in the nip in their 3 way circus mirrors and shitty lighting...I haven't felt this motivated in months!

C4ro · 10/05/2011 20:42

Hello peeps.

Trying to join the flow of conversation here is to be threatened to be washed away in the flood! Would love to make thoughtful individual comments to you all but no chance at this speed.

I'm going to come back and copy/ paste those recipes as they look tasty.

I am nervous for tomorrows DOD as I've not paid much attention to food this week. I've been on my own for two weeks now juggling DD solo, working 32 hours a week and arranging everything this end for the move. I've been on readymeals and snacks only. Not ideal but I did choose things like salads not just comfort stodge. I also have to try and clear out the fridge/ freezer this week, this also doesn't make for healthy balanced eating choices.

I am hating clothes shops too WTAF. When I was trying to find jeans last week, I had to leave the curtain open while I tried things on so I could see DD in the pram (not in a peedo-round-every-corner way, more a make-sure-she-can't-reach-things-to-break). I was thrown back to being 15 and changing for PE at school trying to do the worst bits as quickly as possible. Wish they still had those victorian swimming caravans!

Fish I hope it will encourage you to hear it- my mate in US managed to get a new job at 6 months pregnant. It is totally possible to find a new contract and you will be also guaranteed that it will be with open-minded, pleasant people.

MadameBoo · 10/05/2011 21:37

Haven't posted because I feel too guilty. I've had a complete fail this weekend. Another barbecue on Sunday and I fell of the wagon totally. Am due on on Thurs and today, true to form, have eaten my own body weight in chocolate. Tomorrow is going to be a disaster I think Blush

nappyaddict · 10/05/2011 23:36

Does anyone want to try these dry roasted and dry fried recipes for potatoes, parnsips and carrots?

Dry fried potatoes Works with onions too.

Dry roasted potatoes and parsnips. I would use pepper, garlic, rosemary, thyme, paprika etc to season instead of salt. Would work for peppers, aubergines, pumpkin, onion, garlic, tomatoes, courgettes, onions, carrots, swede, sweet potatoes etc too.

Dry roasted veg

nappyaddict · 10/05/2011 23:47

Also not strictly SW but RC gives some good advice here

nappyaddict · 11/05/2011 00:01

Dry frying eggs

nappyaddict · 11/05/2011 00:18

curry potato wedges Egg white works instead of milk as well. The hotter the oven and smaller the wedges the crispier they will be so you could even do without the egg white or milk.

nappyaddict · 11/05/2011 00:24

Oh my nan also told me with dry fried, dry roasted and potato wedges the trick is to par-boil, leave to cool then scrape a fork over the surface of the potato before frying/roasting. It makes them super crispy.

BlooferLady · 11/05/2011 06:38

1.5lb off ! Which I'm quite pleased with since this was achieved in 3 days after I threw my almonds and flapjack toys out of my pram. Challenge now to sustain this strictness for a week and see how I do!

Will read froo everything at work. What? Come on! Not like I'm going to be concentrating on massively cocking things up!

OP posts:
Cheeseandbiscuits · 11/05/2011 07:35

Well done bloof. that's fab in 3 days! Impressed.

nappy thanks for those, they look great! Will be trying them out.

Yesterday I joined an overpriced swanky gym and have got my induction on Sunday. I haven't done exercise for about a year what with preg n all so I'm going to bloody die- so I am looking forward to it. Then went to Rigby and pelier and got me jubblies measured.....
34 j . bit grim, poor baby having to contend with those when she feeds.

Right off to express then will get on the scales.I'm actually nervous!

AlpinePony · 11/05/2011 08:05

1.5kg off here. Grin I'm over the moon - especially as I had bread a few times last week! ShockWink Tbh I think it was the 40 minute running sauna on Sunday which did for me. Phewwwwwwwie.

cheesybics I loved my swanky gym (we've moved town now though), I'd go in before work and use the showers there and because of the effort involved I got to really making an effort with my appearance - e.g., even wearing make-up at work! Wink The expensive ones tend to have a creche too - if we'd been living there when I was on maternity leave I think I'd have joined for that alone.

I belong to a veh veh veh cheap gym now, 21 euros a month including classes. Even if I only go to my Body Pump class on the friday morning I still feel happy as I'd happily pay 5 euros for that class alone.

Hedgepig · 11/05/2011 08:39

morning, been a bit hectic fior the last couple of days whizzing around, but DS2 is fine and the surgery went well, .
very envious of the cheap/close/swanky gym we don't have anything close, but I have joined an exercise class on Thursdays (but it is cancelled this week), I will have to cycle to the official SW class instead.

Bloof & pony well done. I have lost 3lb so I think this is going to be a good week for the thread.

Chees my norkage was equally huge (36 JJ) and I'm not bfeeding [shouck]. I think i have lost some cup size I need to go and get re-measured.

must go and do some work, Bloof get back to that thesis Smile
