Let's start afresh!

Sarra Yep, Holford. Although in a loose, can't be bothered to count GL points of each meal, kind of way! I need to do something that will hopefully last beyond (hopefully) supreme weight loss. I'm amazed that I haven't been ravenous for pasta or pizza which are my two favourite things. Instead, I've been really steady with my eating and I must say, I'm quite impressed so far. I've actually ordered some of the supplements he recommends today though as I feel quite tired on and off so I'm hoping that they give me a boost. Rather that than the remaining Easter eggs.

Belle You've done really well! That's a great loss so far. I like to post my meals too. So, today I've had yogurt with berries and almonds; a snack of 2 oatcakes with hummus; a quinoa, avocado and bean salady thing; tofu and cashew nut stir fry. It is a bit heavy on nuts, but given that I did 30 mins on scary cross-trainer (see my halo shine) I'm not too worried.

olismum23 · 10/05/2011 20:41

I caved and had Stovies (corned beef hash type thing for non scots) and then was promptly sick with a very sore tummy, serves me right i suppose.
I had bacon eggs and a tomato for breakfast.
started to go off the rails and had sugar free musili for lunch
then totally derailed and had the offending stovies
then i was sick :(

olismum23 · 10/05/2011 20:43

Oh and i bought a low gi diabetics diet book today thinking it may be a more moderate plan for me but all the carbs scared me and all the advice is opposite of atkins as a result just was not sure Confused

FreeButtonBee · 10/05/2011 21:49

Hello all! I have been a bit of a skiver recently. Bad weekend (cocktails and chips at 2am), bad day yesterday (conference) and not great today (pret baugette and crisps for lunch!). Hmm, out of the groove!

Was 10 5.25 this morning so still above my pre-Easter weight of 10 2.

I did have a lovelt dinner of chili con carne, served on shredded lettuce, with guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes. Had a few squares of dark choc but i am going to try not to cheat again tonight.

I need to get back into breakfast as that is key for me. Also i think this might be the week for exercise. have pilates on thursday but friday might be the day for a run...

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/05/2011 22:55

olismum - what are you doing?! Hmm

Low carb has been working really well for you - 12lbs off in one week is just brilliant! Honestly, if you start switching to other ways of eating (and especially ramping up the carbs again) you will pile it all back on and just sabotage all the work that you have been doing.

It took you a while to put weight on and you have to accept that it will take you a while to lose it.

Carry on with what you've been doing (you know it works as you have the proof!). Let your body (and you) get used to it.

olismum23 · 11/05/2011 11:03

Yeah biwt I just had a day where i was totally sick of meat however i overcome that by reading the other diet plan which is basically low fat low cal whatever they call it.
After my carb loading yesterday believe it or not i lost another lb so in total 2lb down this week thats a stone off :)

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/05/2011 12:03

olismum - I think you need to give us an idea of what you're eating - if you're already getting bored that's not great. What would a typical day be for you?

CointreauVersial · 11/05/2011 13:26

olismum, I second what BIWI said - don't chop and change too quickly; I think you need to give it more time.

If you are sick of meat, try to diversify - fish, nuts, eggs..... Also, keep up the green veg and salads to complement the protein.

Hi Marian, you've made a good start, it seems! It is almost exactly a year since I started this diet - well, I now consider it a way of eating - the reason it has worked so well for me is that I'm not deprived of all the things I love (meat, cheese, nuts etc.). I am currently eating a humungous salad with all sorts of things that fell out of my fridge this morning - bits of salami, ham, smoked cheese, olives and a blob of coleslaw - lovely!

I reached my target weight before Christmas, then overshot it by another half stone (hooray!); my weight has now stabilised but hasn't gone up since January.

MarianH · 11/05/2011 13:39

Cointreau You've done brilliantly! Congratulations on such a great loss. It seems like such a long way to go from where I am now, so I have to keep telling myself that it has crept on and won't drop off overnight.

Does anybody avoid caffeine, or are you all still tea and coffee drinkers? The Holford diet recommends that you try and stop drinking it, but I'm finding it difficult to give up completely. I don't drink much, maybe a cup a day of each, but I want it more at the moment. I am feeling a bit tired and fed up though, so that's probably me projecting my food cravings onto coffee instead.

FreeButtonBee · 11/05/2011 14:25

3/4 lb on today. Grumble grumble. Might be pre-menstrual Tummy is looking quite flabby again. And the graph has a distinct upward looking trend.

However, putting my bright and shiney face on, I have not cheated today yet. Didn't manage any breakfast but just had a big chicken salad for lunch. Dinner is more chilli with salad and gaucamole and sour cream. I am being lured out for drinks tonight but will try to resist.

Aim is to have loads of water this afternoon and if the snack monsters attack, to go for the plain yoghurt option, rather than the maltesers option!

BecauseImWorthIt · 11/05/2011 15:34

So an update from me:

yesterday's dinner was a cheese omelette with boiled celery, and then a sugar-free jelly

Today:

breakfast - 2 boiled eggs
lunch - 2 roasted chicken thighs with spinach in garlic butter

Not sure about dinner yet. I'm making kedgeree for the family with leftover smoked haddock. I may have another omelette.

olismum23 · 11/05/2011 17:37

ok this is what i have ate today, and before everyone says anything im not strict atkins as i allow myself yogurt i have moved on to OWL too.

1tbsp full fat greek natural yog with berries and sugar free strawberry syrup.
chicken salad with cheese and low carb caesar dressing
belly pork with asparagus and cheese sauce

I also have to clarify this is me changing it up pre low carb i would only eat meat around once a week that is why i found it boring i am getting it to adapt to me now i feel. I like to look at all options because this is not a diet to me this is for life so i want the best fit.

Timbachick · 11/05/2011 18:09

whats OWL oli?

olives with lard?
octopus with lychee?
oreos with lurpac?
oranges with linquine?
oxtails with limes?
ostrich with lemonade?

My mind is boggling!!!! Grin

olismum23 · 11/05/2011 18:15

Grin ongoing weight loss, hehe Grin the other suggestions sound much more fun!

Timbachick · 11/05/2011 21:03

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha - got it now Grin ... doesn't it always seem obvious when someone spells it out GrinGrin

Personally, I think olives with lard sounds best!!!

Sarraburd · 11/05/2011 22:07

Octopus with lychee Grin

My box is rather full after dh birthday celebrations - pasta, pizza, crisps, wine, grappa, prosecco...(lots of fish too but I don't think that counts with all those carbs...) and waaay too much cheese (so much that I couldn't eat the creme brûlée but not sure whether the extra fat is worse than the less sugar?)

Anyway. Today yog tahini agave syrup
Chicken "pizza" and salad (thanks so much bwiw (I think?) for that one!) olives and artichokes as pizza toppings (newbies - is chicken bashed flat with toppings on and grilled)
Snack - few mouthfuls on hoof of kale chickpea chorizo stew a friend cooked for me and I will have for lunch tomorrow
Supper salmon and kale

Sarraburd · 11/05/2011 22:10

Marian - I have a cup of tea every day but coffee only a couple of times a week. You should still lose on what you're having.

Sarraburd · 11/05/2011 22:16

And Marian yes I don't count the GL points, just avoid the obvious sinners. Is v easy to stick to and slow but steady weight loss - about a pound per week.

BelleEnd · 12/05/2011 07:33

I am annoyed as I've had my first gain this morning. A pound and a half! Shock And my stomach is bloated and yucky too. Shall guzzle peppermint tea in vast quantities this morning.

Yesterday was
Ham salad with aubegine- I've never liked aubergine, but ate it sliced and grilled with a bit of salt... It was lovely!
Half an apple, a few grapes
2 coffees
Bacon salad. OK, I know bacon isn't great, but a pound and a half? Really? For a few slices of bacon?

Having a friend for lunch today, and my father over for dinner, so I'm going to make fish/prawns with pineapple and coriander salad for both. They can have potatoes too.

I dreamed of having honey and almond ice cream last night :o

Timbachick · 12/05/2011 07:46

Oh Belle - those dreams are devastating aren't they...that moment when you wake up and realise .............. it was but a dream SadGrin

Love the name change, btw.Grin

MarianH · 12/05/2011 08:50

Thanks Sarra. I haven't weighed myself yet, but I know I'm losing. I'm trying to avoid that crushing, yet irrational, disappointment that I feel if I don't lose as much as I'd hoped in a week. Gone are my dieting days in my teens and twenties where I'd shed 7lbs a week for the first 2-3 weeks! But I still secretly hope that it has happened. The cravings I've had are for the scales, but I'm determined to stay away as they aren't good for me Grin. I am measuring so I have some indication that I'm not going up! I keep making coffee but only having a couple of sips, so I wonder if I'm naturally weaning myself off it.

Yesterday was okay. I ate porridge with berries and soy milk, hummus and oatcakes (since starting cross-trainer I've felt the need to snack), quinoa and bean salad, mushroom foo yung and satay mixed veg from Chinese (treat for DD). I regretted the satay - it was really, really sweet. Hopefully the eggs in the foo yung will balance that out. I did 40mins on cross-trainer.

Today I am going to crack open the 30 day shred...

MarianH · 12/05/2011 08:54

Sorry about gain Belle - could it just be water weight? If it is, that peppermint tea should help to flush it.

BelleEnd · 12/05/2011 08:58

Could be water retention. Still annoying. :o

I haven't bought any of the fruit I allow myself to snack on- berries etc- so hopefully that will force me to snack on celery and nothing else! I'm going to a party on Saturday, and will eat a salad before going, but I'm imagining a buffet which will have to be avoided...
