2011 Paul McKenna P3 - the march towards skinny jeans continues

Well the old thread was getting mordibly obese wasn't it? Grin

Welcome new people and people who've been here for a while, this is the definitive Paul McKenna support thread.

Whether you are dribbling over his Paulness or wibbling over pudding, we're here to listen, slightly mock you and tell you to step away from the scales.

The Paul Mckenna plan is not a diet but a way of teaching yourself to eat slowly and consciously and achieve the body you've always dreamed of.

There will be no diet foods on this thread, no starvation and no beating ourselves up because ^lifes' too bloody short to weigh a carrot and we'd far rather be doing something incredible instead!

Breakfasts here - bagel & pate (cant eat a whoe one though), oatcakes & cheese, seeded bread toasted with peanut butter, honey & walnut yogurt and very occasionally a bacon roll Grin

onesandwichshort · 20/03/2011 16:20

Right, I'm just going to sit here with you and take notes, if that's OK, and see what tips and inspiration I can take. And persevere in the way of the Paul, of course.

WMMC - what happens when I listen to the CDs, at any time of day, is that I don't go into a trance like I used to. Instead, my brain counts backwards and listens, while at the same time thinking about what needs doing in the garden or something similarly mundane. It's like a bit of deliberate subconscious interference. Either I've heard them too many times, or I have a giant piece of resistance I need to deal with.

Last time - when it worked - I ate slowly and didn't pick while cooking (my worst habit) at all. That's not happening this time.

BUT IT WILL. I will be a size 10, I will, I will.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/03/2011 18:27

That's fine that you don't go to sleep. I could recite the CDs (all five of them because I do not go to sleep). It's not important. So relax about that. You are just one of those people who stays that little bit more awake.

If you count, how far down do you get or do you find that you lose interest in counting and just listen? Whenever you stop counting you need to call to mind an image of yourself at your ideal weight, imagining how that will look, how you will feel. See how confident you are, the way you stand, speak etc. Experience that feeling of achievement and feel good about it because that will help steer your actions. :)

I have spent an hour in the garden potting up some plants, and another hour retreating woodwork on the front door and frames.

And I have about two hours ironing to do too but am feeling mightily fine today! DH is only back for a day though and then off for work for a few days having been away for the weekend Envy, leaving me with his mother Hmm and two kids who had moon madness!

So very surprising how good I feel. :)

PM on Classic FM now!

franke · 20/03/2011 19:47

I've realised it all falls apart a bit for me at the weekends eating-wise, but not disastrously, just a couple of extra snacks that I don't really need. Then I climb back on the wagon on Monday Smile. I feel so much more energetic now and my knees aren't crunching quite so loudly when I run up the stairs.

One question - how do you all deal with alcohol? I'm having a glass of wine at the moment and very mindful of how calorific it is; but as it's not something I'd go for when I'm hungry, I wonder how it slots into this system. He doesn't really explain it well in the book.

arfur · 20/03/2011 20:23

Franke - I dont worry about alcohol as for me my problem is with food and even though I know some booze is higher in cals than others I have completely taken it out of the equation for me. I suppose if you drink a large quantity of say cider then it could make a difference but I had a lightbulb moment a while back when it dawned on me that the odd glass of vino or cider wasnt making me overweight it was my appalling eating habits. Not sure if thats helpful if its too specific for me but still .... I also am not as mindful about my eating at weekends but am guessing that may be the case for naturally thin people and if you eat less during the week it all balances out in the end?

BsshBossh · 20/03/2011 20:32

Yes, I agree with arfur in that my belief is that everything balances out in the end - if I eat beyond hunger a few times at the weekend, I don't beat myself up about it as I know I'll feel less hungry during the week. Actually, Mondays are the days I naturally feel less hungry (if I'm really in tune with my body) and I know this is because I've perhaps eaten more than normal at weekends.

franke · 20/03/2011 20:47

Yes, that is helpful arfur. You're so right - it wasn't the odd glass of wine that made me overweight, but it might possibly have been the entire bars of chocolate that I would eat in one go, regularly Grin.

Thanks both, I think that's what appeals to me about this system - if you fall off the wagon you don't beat yourself up about it, you just climb right back on. It's nice to have permission to be kind to ourselves.

UrsulaBuffay · 20/03/2011 21:59

Sorry I'm doing crap and crap at posting Blush

But kept meaning to thank Olive on the thread for so kindly helping me out Wink

whomovedmychocolate · 20/03/2011 22:41

I cannot help with alcohol questions as I don't drink at all. I'm just like this all the time Grin

UrsulaBuffay - nix with the negativity! It's nice to see you.
:) The fact that you have checked in at all must mean you hope to return? :)

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 21/03/2011 06:45

Im sure Paul says its ok to drink alcohol, as long as you dont eat at the same time as it lowers your perceptions & may not recognise your full signal. He says you dont see fat alcoholics, they are usually skinny!

UrsulaBuffay · 21/03/2011 08:56

I am trying Who :) both to return & to be more positive!

whomovedmychocolate · 21/03/2011 09:19

Hurrah for Ursula - let's hope we see you again this week.

ppeatfruit · 21/03/2011 09:47

Come on Ursula you CAN do it!!! I'm a size 11 now and am going to continue with the pauling but not worried about my weight or belly any more YAAAY!!

solo · 21/03/2011 10:23

Going out for a lunch treat today; it's my birthday. I'm 47, fat and fed up...harrrrumph!

3ismylot · 21/03/2011 10:39

Hi all just want to introduce myself as I am starting this hopefully tomorrow (aslong as my cds arrive today!)
I have read peoples results with this and really want to give it a go as from what I can see it is the only eating plan that lets you eat "normally" all the time with nothing banned or seen as bad or syns!

I had a cooked breakfast in the cafe this morning and thought I would give it a go from the tips I had read.

I ordered a smaller breakfast than normal, ate slowly and put my knife and fork down between mouthfuls and ate my fav bits first instead of leaving them till last as I usually do meaning I eat the whole plateful.
I felt full quite quickly and managed to leave about 1/4 of the food (should have been more but I had about 2 or 3 mouthfuls more than I should have as it was nice ) I felt incredibly full, infact too full still so need to listen more lol, I couldnt believe it as I would normally wolf down twice that amount and then have something else ShockBlush

I really hope this can work for me and am determined to give it a really good try, Im not gonna weigh very often (maybe once or twice a month) and just enjoy eating food and not worrying about cals, points or syns as they have ruled my life for longer than I can remember!!

Hope everyone else is doing well Grin

franch · 21/03/2011 10:44

Hello all, still not happening for me but I'm plodding on ...

I just had a chocolate craving (definitely NOT hunger) and tried tapping - did it twice with no results. Then tried the aversion technique: hmm. I won't tell you what I had to imagine in order to disgust myself sufficiently ... I now feel a bit queasy and don't fancy eating anything at all, but time will tell whether it's put me off chocolate altogether!

Proud2bFeminine · 21/03/2011 10:50

Are there no lengths that mans publicity machine will go to ?

franch · 21/03/2011 11:04

What do you mean, Proud2b?

3ismylot, welcome :)

ChocFreak · 21/03/2011 11:55

Hi, have been reading this thread with interest. I tried I Can Make You Thin about 18 months ago, and was having some success. However, the one downside I found when eating slowly, is that my food got too cold, and I didn't really enjoy my meal (I do like my food piping hot!) Anyone else have this?

franch · 21/03/2011 13:03

Hi ChocFreak, yes I've had that. OK at home when you can leave some of your food in a warm, covered serving dish - but tricky when eating elsewhere. I don't have a solution for that!

franch · 21/03/2011 13:55

The aversion didn't work - I just had some chocolate. Feels like it could, though - will try it again.

Is it true that some people are more hypnotisable than others? I think I may be one of those very unhypnotisable people ... :(

ChocFreak · 21/03/2011 13:58

Hi Franch, thanks for that tip. I've just dug my I Can Make You Thin Cd and DVD out again and am ready to give it another go.
