2011 Paul McKenna P3 - the march towards skinny jeans continues

whomovedmychocolate · 16/03/2011 18:40

Well the old thread was getting mordibly obese wasn't it? Grin

Welcome new people and people who've been here for a while, this is the definitive Paul McKenna support thread.

Whether you are dribbling over his Paulness or wibbling over pudding, we're here to listen, slightly mock you and tell you to step away from the scales.

The Paul Mckenna plan is not a diet but a way of teaching yourself to eat slowly and consciously and achieve the body you've always dreamed of.

There will be no diet foods on this thread, no starvation and no beating ourselves up because ^lifes' too bloody short to weigh a carrot and we'd far rather be doing something incredible instead!

Hi Everyone , It's been a little while since I've posted on a Paul Mckenna thread and looked on mumsnet, and I'm amazed at how it's all taken off and how many followers there are now! I quite enjoyed reading the 3 massive threads over a cup of tea and you've all inspired me to get back on track.. I was doing really well but since returning to work after mat leave I've been struggling ( fitting in my gym sessions, hating my boring job, so nibbling on crap while i'm there, and missing my baby) . I have made a massive decision to leave work to start up my own childminding business I'm mega excited, ( and very scared after working in the same place for a decade) so need to be in tip top health and energized to enable me to give the best care for the children as possible, i also feel having a healthy attitude around young children is a really good thing ( my mother has been dieting since i was a baby and I'm sure this has contributed to my food issues ) The added bonus is spending extra time with my daughter that I missed with my son, totally unavoidable at the time and I'm sure I'm the only one who has suffered as hes such a happy (skinny) chappie.. Any way keep up the good work everyone and I hope you wont mind me pestering for advice, PP used to be my Guru

mummyosaurus · 22/03/2011 21:47

Hello all, great to see some new people on here.

I'm still trying, and still self sabotaging.

Tomorrow's another day...

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 23/03/2011 06:31

Hi emmie, hope Paul becomes your guru again :D

mummyosaurus - can you look into why you are self-sabotaging? Have you any worries abotu being slimmer - that people might think of you differently? Even if they think of you more positive? That canscare soem people, and lead them to sabotage. Or are you worried about how to treat your emotions without food? Or even like me, do you feel a bit lonely withut food for company? Thats been my hurdle - I was so used to conforting myself with crisps or a sandwich constantly that I struggled to find something to fill that void. It was like losing a friend - honestly! I have replaced my "food friend" with my children & real friends now - I like to go walking with them, or meeting up for lunch more often (now that there are no restrictions yay!) or nice long chatty phonecalls. There will be soemthing that suits you, you will just need to have a wee think about it. Hope that helps a little :)

Morning all Smile

Well day 1 of doing PM went really well Grin
I started off with readybrek for breakfast, I made the portion alot smaller than normal and still left a few spoonfuls but I must say that I found the eating slowly quite hard as it isnt something you can chew lots lol

I then went to softplay with the twins,my friend and her son and we had 3 hours of chasing them and helping them out and I really enjoyed it Grin for lunch I ordered a tuna baguette that came with crisps, I ate slowly and didnt bother with the crisps which I would have easily scoffed before and left a little of the baguette and I managed to resist the cheesy chips that my friend had!
I didnt even mindlessly finish the twins quavers off like I normally would so was really pleased with myself Smile

The next hurdle was not eating some of the sweets my son had after school which I normally eat without a 2nd thought, I realised that I dont even particually like them and just eat them as they are there lol

Dinner was sausages.mash potato and broccoli cheese. Normally I would eat 3 sausages. a massive pile of mash and half a big dish of broccoli cheese usually followed by a big pudding Blush
Tonight I managed nearly 1 sausage, 6 forkfuls of mash and 1 serving spoon full of broccoli cheese and not even a thought of pudding Shock

I know I have a long way to go but I really cant believe how little my appetite really is!
I also listened to the exercise cd and once my new ipod arrives (should be today) I am gonna start doing couch to 5k but Im mainly gonna concentrate of just moving more throughout the day Grin

Sorry for waffling on Blush just feeling so great at the moment and want to get it down on paper lol
Hope everyone else is having a good day x

mycatoscar · 23/03/2011 07:08

howtolookgood

that makes so much sense about food being a friend. My biggest hurdle is going to be school holidays (I'm a teacher) when I am at home all day every day with dd - that is when I comfort eat a lot so I must try to arrange some outings and time with friends instead of just sitting on the sofa scoffing!

whomovedmychocolate · 23/03/2011 07:47

Morning all, welcome to all the new people and the people starting again. It's never too late to give it a go! Well my house is up online www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-33264803.html and I'm scurrying hither and thither trying to get ready for the first viewing tomorrow. I have no time to overeat frankly even if I did have the inclination.

mycatoscar - if you are keeping up with the CDs you will reach a point where you don't think about food until you are hungry, so that won't be a problem (the school hols I mean). The best plan I found though is to sort out the kitchen cupboards or something to just keep your mind occupied for twenty minutes if you are having a difficult moment. Or just go outside and smell the flowers and drink some tea. :)

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 23/03/2011 08:15

what a great first day 3ismylot! I loved that moement of realising how little I needed! Its amazing how much you end up cutting down your meals. I find I eat 4/5 small meals a day instead of 3 reguated ones like I used to.

WMMC - fab house! what are interconnecting bedrooms though? Its been over 4 week snow for me, listening to the CDs yet still think about food a lot of the day :( I just dont eat it lol so I suppose thats a huge step in teh right direction. I do spend a lot of time thinking about what Im gong to have for each meal, I am hoping that goes soon.

mycatoscar - sounds liek a good plan! Im going to keep busy during the hols too, no way do I want old habits to creep back in when my routine is out :)

whomovedmychocolate · 23/03/2011 12:37

Interconnecting bedrooms are where you can get to one by another, but it's a bit of a misnomer in this case because only the central bedroom has to be access through another, the others have their own staircases to get to them (very weird house).

great to hear from you againemmie Did you mean I was yr guru or P.M.? I've reached my target now (getting admiring comments etc.) so will continue with the pauling 'cos it's fab.!!!

ppeatfruit · 23/03/2011 13:16

UrsulaBuffay · 23/03/2011 13:19

Bloody hell pp well done!!! I really must start to bloody concentrate :)

Gorgeous house WMMC, I'd have it in a shot

whomovedmychocolate · 23/03/2011 13:46

Hurrah for PP! Grin

Well I still have some to go I think. I haven't weighed myself but I'm definitely not there yet, but not too far now. :)

Ursula - if you have £750K knocking about it's yours Wink

UrsulaBuffay · 23/03/2011 13:47

I wish!!!

I have a few lbs knocking around but fewer £ Grin

emmie31 · 23/03/2011 14:07

PP 2 stone!!!!! Amazing!!! and yes I meant you're my guru Smile

Back into it today, have even managed to sort the kids out and hit the gym before work and feel great that I haven't got the " oh no I've go to do exercise after work and I'm tired " thought buzzing through my head!!! I weighed myself for the first time in yonks and not put any on so I haven't sabotaged myself ( which I would have done in the past) so sub conciously I must have had PM in the back of my head....

Lush to hear from you PP bit jealous you went to the PM show, did you all enjoy it?

BsshBossh · 23/03/2011 15:30

PP amazing and inspirational. I weigh in this Saturday but am nervous as I feel heavy even though I had to look for a belt for my jeans yesterday.

My problem is that I am eating not when genuinely hungry but when at a natural break point in my work day. So, for example, I finished my morning's work (ran out of working steam) around 12 but knew I wanted to get back to work around 1-ish so I ate lunch at 12 even though I could easily have waited until 2 or even 3 - however by 2 or 3 I would have been well into my work again and not been able/wanted to break to eat. But then if I didn't eat around 2 or 3 when I actually would have been hungry it would have been difficult to break from my desk to actually eat and then I would be ravenous by 4 IYSWIM.

The good thing is I am no longer snacking. I am eating three meals a day, which suits me.

However, I'm no longer eating when truly hungry because of the way my working day is structured.

Let's see what Saturday's weigh in (end of my week 2 on PMK) brings...

ppeatfruit · 23/03/2011 16:08

Thanks everyone Smile Bssh and someone else who's a teacher i took a little pot with dried fruit and nuts and a bottle of water to have at breaks (if hungry of course!).

BsshBossh · 23/03/2011 16:41

Yes, maybe grazing during the working day is the only way to do this (if hunger hits when I can't get away from my desk). The good thing is is that I am always properly hungry for breakfast and dinner. I'll experiment.

UrsulaBuffay · 23/03/2011 16:43

I think grazing keeps you feeling 'neutral' rather than getting starving then overeating, when it works it works I must say! Can even see how people say they forget to eat & I would NEVER have said that before!!

VJayJay · 23/03/2011 17:12

Well done pp Smile, can I ask, how long did it take you to lose the 2 stone?

onesandwichshort · 23/03/2011 20:06

Evening all.

PPfruit - that's brilliant. I will take you as my inspiration too.

WMMC - the house looks fabulous, good luck with it. We're on the market too, and so most of my exercise is cleaning and decluttering at the moment (we sold within 2 weeks, but then their pesky buyers fell through, so we are back to square one and remarketing for spring, sigh...)

Although I am just trundling along, as well as suffering a bit with a sinus infection which is on its second batch of antibiotics and Will Not Die, I thought I would be a bit more positive. I don't weigh myself (haven't for ages, just go by belt notches), and I am getting very slightly thinner at the moment. Or at least not fatter. I don't worry about 'diet foods' at all, and my eating habits are changing - for example i couldn't ever have a cappuccino (sp?) after a meal now, it's too filling. So it's not all doom and gloom.

And I do have the world's strangest antibiotics, I have to take them standing up (yes, really) with lots of water and be sure not to lie down for half an hour afterwards. I laughed, but apparently it's important. Hmm

mycatoscar · 23/03/2011 20:16

2 stone is amazing! I would love to know how long it took you as that's what I think I could do with losing to be happy.

I wasn't hungry for breakfast this morning so I just took a granola bar with me and ate it once I got to school

I'm finding it slips my mind to chew lots and slow down though maybe that will come with time and practise. I realised at dinner that Id eaten a few mouthfuls without realising and I couldn't actually remember eating them lol

BellaCullen · 23/03/2011 20:41

Evening everyone,

PPfruit - well done on the great weight loss.Smile

WMMC- your house looks great,I would love a house like that if i ever win the lottery.Hope you sell it soon.

Day 3 and struggled a bit today eating some M&Ms a few times when not actually hungry. Also found it hard not to pick when cooking yesterday and at kids leftover as is just automatically done.Still need to recognise when full up as when I eat everything off plate I feel guilty thinking I need to leave some.I do use smaller plate now as no point wasting a bigger one.

Today I had wheatabix with apricots, apple for breakfast, then a few pear pieces at playgroup and then an egg sandwich for lunch and tuna lasagne for dinner. And about 20 M&Ms throughout day. Doesnt actually look too bad when written down. Before I would have scoffed the whole bag of chocolate in one sitting.Chocolate definitely my weak point. Also dcs driving me mad which normally drives me to comfort eating.Finding kids very distracting while trying to eat consciously might have to start eating alone. Didnt manage to excersise today but did loads of walking and even walked to pick dd up from friend instead of driving, the sun definitely helps with enjoying walking.

Still waiting for my books hope they arrive tomorrow or friday Hmm.

Hope you all having a good evening.xxx

franch · 23/03/2011 20:50

So far I've lost 2lb and put 1lb back on again. :( Binged all day today after weighing myself :(

wwmc, rationalising doesn't stop me bingeing. My irrational side is way stronger than my rational side when it comes to food.

I totally 'get' the rules of Pauling and think it is an absolutely right and sensible way of life - but I just can't make myself do it. What's disappointing is that I thought PM was going to make it easy. That he was going to take away the need for willpower and rationalisation. That I would start wanting to eat less, to eat healthily, to eat sensibly. Rather than still having to force myself to.

I don't know. It's not a good time of the month for this and I'm tired. But I've persevered for a month now and don't understand why I'm not getting the results that you're all getting. And before you ask no, I don't have some big psychological issue that I'm suppressing. I can honestly say that, other than the eating thing, my life is more fulfilling and well-balanced than it has been for years. I've examined my eating behaviour pretty thoroughly for a long time now and repeatedly failed to dig up a deep emotional reason for it.

This is such a positive thread, I'm sorry to be the lone whingeing voice. I'm not giving up yet, but am fast losing heart.

UrsulaBuffay · 23/03/2011 21:48

Franch you're not alone. A few of us struggle/are struggling. I've not really been doing it properly, not lost anything; not surprised! But I don't want to go backwards into a cycle of 'dieting'. And if the only positives I do get are being fat and happy that is better than fat and miserable!!

Before wmmc comes along & says it: throw away the scales! (well, put away safely for the time being)

blinder · 23/03/2011 22:13

Franch I feel the same. I've lost 2lbs and gained 1 too!

Don't want to bring the thread down, and I'm still Pauling but want you to know you aren't alone Sad.
