New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

Oh oh i forgot to say. Someone in work told me i was looking "lean" on tuesday!! "lean"!! How awesome is that.

Down side is i definitely look fat in all my wedding photos (was last oct). Oh well.

CointreauVersial · 17/03/2011 21:37

Lean mean fighting machine Grin

mammya · 17/03/2011 22:59

I found this website which has lots of great recipes:
lowcarbgal and I thought I'd share it with you :)

CointreauVersial · 17/03/2011 23:45

Thanks Mammya, always looking for new ideas.

Ormirian · 18/03/2011 09:31

Hmmm soomeone at work told me I was looking stunning yesterday and proceeded to hit on me Hmm I wasn't chuffed.

systemsaddict · 18/03/2011 10:34

Congrats on the job custy! and hope the drum exam goes well today too.

Sorry about your shit day sal, such things always seem to come all at once Sad

Thanks for the blog link mammya, that looks like a very very good one!!

I am doing fine, my weekly Lent babysteps continue. Cutting out peanuts as a snack has had the unexpected effect of enabling me to control my eating at my "reward meal" much better so I am actually closer to balancing reward meals already, even though this is one of my later goals. And as a result, weight loss has begun again, I'm down to 181 again ( Envy at your 170 Orm, that's fab! I'd be happy at that ...). When I break into the 170s you will all be hearing about it!!

I introduce a new thing each Wednesday, but only managed one day keeping my coffee with cream to only one occasion Blush. Came home to chaos and screaming yesterday and needed something to help me cope, coffee with cream seemed a better option than chocolate! Will try again today ...

krepsly · 18/03/2011 12:02

I started low-carbing today. Bad day to start really as I have NOTHING in the cupboards and I'm waiting for a delivery from Asda!

I'm starving but there's nothing in I can eat. I'll have to overdose on water I suppose.

So I had scrambled eggs for brekkie (all I had in lol).

noddyholder · 18/03/2011 12:26

Now that I am back on teh caffeine I am finding low carb great again! For dinner last night we had a take away so I had tandoori chicken with spinach and thats it! Breakfast has been bacon today and lunch scrambled eggs with cheese! Glugging water like mad as am feeling tired really determined to shed a few pounds quickly and then maintain with a generally low carb diet and WALKING! Have beautiful park about 2 mins away and have no excuse

krepsly · 18/03/2011 12:53

Am I being naive in thinking that if I lose a stone in weight by severely restricting carbs I can then maintain the weight whilst slowly increasing the carbs to sensible levels? I can't imagine eating like this for more than a few weeks.

(just eaten tuna salad with mayo and cheese)

systemsaddict · 18/03/2011 13:02

Hi krepsly, yes all the low-carb plans I know of have a 'maintenance' phase where you re-introduce carbs, but gradually, and normally choosing from a restricted list of slower-release-type carb foods to start off with. Having said that, after a few days eating like this you might feel like you can do it for longer than you expect!

noddy I have never tried to do this without caffeine, I just closed my eyes and went 'blah, blah' any time I encountered that recommendation Wink

noddyholder · 18/03/2011 13:19

Grin thank god! I really wouldn't get past day 2 at the moment going decaf aswell!

Timbachick · 18/03/2011 13:33

A bit late but congrats custy on getting the job. Hope the drum exam goes well today.

Weight not really shifted much in the last week but clothes feel looser so am concentrating on that and not worrying about the scales Smile

Tortington · 18/03/2011 18:57

totally fucked up the drum exam - i wont know for three weeks, but proper blew it - ne;ver mind though cos i have a job Grin

am off out getting pissed on carbolicious fosters yayay

CointreauVersial · 18/03/2011 23:02

Never mind, Custy, can't win 'em all.

Had a fun day today - kids were on Inset (not normally a cause for celebration) but I stuffed the car with DS1's mates and dropped him at the swimming pool, then went ICE SKATING with a mate and the DDs! What a laugh - managed to retain my dignity and not fall over, but I needed an almond croissant and a ma-hoo-sive cappuchino in Costa afterwards to recover (Give up caffeine? You are joking).

Apart from that, been pretty good - blueberries/greek yogurt/almonds for breakfast, mackerel salad yet again for lunch, and bolognaise with garlic courgettes for tea. And two glasses of wine.

FreeButtonBee · 19/03/2011 09:24

Hi all

Holding firm the past 2 days at 10 3, which is great. The irish experiment is going okay. A few chips and some onions rings sneaked under the radar alomg with a couple of profiteroles Blush but i didn't eat them all. I am finding it easily to know when i am full now which is fab. The rest of the day was pretty good. Bacon omelette for breakfast and chorizo salad for lunch.

I am visitng a friend for lunch so that will be interesting/hard. They are foodies so i reckon i will just enjoy it and then buy a bag of salad to have for my dinner!

CointreauVersial · 19/03/2011 12:41

They have chorizo in Ireland? Shock Who knew?

Clearly you are closer to civilisation than DH's home town. Pasta and pizza are still regarded as "foreign foods" there, and you'd starve if you didn't eat chips.

Ormirian · 19/03/2011 12:51

Uurrgggghhhh.....

I feel so I'll

Hangover from he'll.

Downside - I ate a banana because I needed something I could keep down
Upside- I must have lost weight as I threw up everything I ate and drank...

Got to get up and take dd riding

Well I got weighed this morning and I've lost 1lb. that's after just one day of low carbing.

That's what I love about this diet, you pretty much lose around a lb a day and with that kind of consistancy it keeps your motivation up. That's what I find anyway :)

Had almond muffins for breakfast and a "pizza omellete" (regular omellette with tomato puree and cheese inside) for lunch. I had a babybell as a snack and have drunk tons of water.

May treat myself to a coffee with milk as my carb count for the day is well below 20g, even with what I plan to have for dinner (homemade beef burger with salad and mayo).

No sugar cravings yet.

CointreauVersial · 19/03/2011 16:53

Well done Krepsly! It is nice to see your midriff literally deflating from the first day as all the carb bloat goes. Try not to weight yourself every day, though, it'll drive you mad.

I have however lost a couple of pounds, mainly to the recent belated appearance of my period - 18 days late FFS!

Sorry about your sore head, Orm, hope the evening before was worth it!

Ormirian · 19/03/2011 18:09

Well had lost 1 lb this am. Since then however I have had muesli, prawn sardines and some strawbs Grin. I needed all that lovely starch! But will be back on the straight and narrow tomorrow

Great to hear you are all heading in the right direction.

mammya · 19/03/2011 19:32

Cointreau, it sounds like your period is following the moon! moon thread

Wooooo, that's really spooky. How bizarre!

lorelilee · 20/03/2011 09:55

Hi Ladies.

Am about to start cutting out carbs from tomorrow and have been reading this thread with interest. I'm not planning to go full-on atkins, just cutting 'obvious' carbs (bread, pasta, cereals etc). Can someone advise on where I may trip up and also why tomatoes are so bad?

thanks
