New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

WhereamI · 07/02/2011 16:31

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

But that's two packs of butter, Orm! If you visualise those, that will help you realise that you have still lost a lot of fat!

FellatioNelson · 28/02/2011 09:31

Who'd have thought that living on copious amountd of butter could help you lose two blocks of the stuff? I wonder if there is a directly correlation between weight of fat in and weight of fat out?

(only in the absence of carbs though, obviously)

Hi there. I have not read the whole thread, but have found lots of good tips and ideas in the bits I have read.

I started low carbing yesterday, after doing Weight Watchers since Newe Year with some success (2.5kg lost) but then stalling. Have done low carb (well, Drinking Mans Diet) in the past with good effect, but now looking to shift what is left of my baby weight (DS is 21 months today so can't really use him as an excuse any longer!). I have about 7kg to go to my target weight (about 15 lb)

I have a very supportive DH, and he does the cooking in the household, so that helps. Have asked him to make cauliflower when rest of family is having mash etc. I have also ordered some of those non-carb noodles. The idea is not to make the rest of the family diet (two slim teenage girls, a baby, and a man with no weight problems at all who can eat whatever he likes), but to try and fir low-carbing around what they all already like to eat.

Just thought I would say hi, to really commit myself to the low carbing for the moment!

Verso · 28/02/2011 13:15

Can I join? I have lost five stones recently and am now on the brink of finishing my diet (!)/learning to maintain my weight. I think low-carb during the week is definitely the way forward for me... Hadn't seen this thread before but looks like you have loads of good ideas!

FellatioNelson · 28/02/2011 13:17

Five stones? Confused God Loard, I'm starting to feel inadequate for not being able to keep a grip on my measly two stone loss.

FellatioNelson · 28/02/2011 13:17

Lord. Sorry

Tortington · 28/02/2011 13:44

welcome dudesmummy adn verso!

Timbachick · 28/02/2011 14:12

Hi All. A bit late to the party but well done ilove - that is a fantastic loss in a week. Hope you will stick with it and continue lo/no carbing as your result it proof positive that it works. Smile

Welcome Dudes and Verso - I have only recently joined but the crew here are very supportive and inspiring. Check custy's blog - it's very informative.

Well done Om - it is a lb in the right direction.

I cannot have any wheat based products so steer clear of even the lo-carb pasta and wheat products - a bit sad but I feel so much better not eating them that I love with it. The harder part is not being able to have dairy - milk I can live without but cream (aaargggghhhhh) it's tough ... and don't even get me started on my cheese fixation Grin.

Custardo - thanks for the motivation to try celeriac crisps - god, they are DELICIOUS. Even my DH (who has an almost phobic aversdion to celery/celery flavour) tried them and liked them Grin - so, major converts here.

Anyway, just wanted to sau 'Morning to all and well done and welcome Grin

Might have a recipe to share with you soon - kind of thai based. Will dig it out and post asap.

Timbachick · 28/02/2011 14:12

aversion, not aversdion Hmm. Sorry

Evening all.

I'm staying up late waiting for the washing machine to finish, and trying to take my mind off the fact that secondary school admission results are out tomorrow - eeek! So I might be on the vino tomorrow night (celebrating, or drowning sorrows, who cares either way?Grin).

I had a good weekend, not too much cheating, although I had a hot cross bun on Saturday. DH cooked dinner last night, a very delicious chicken in a curry-ish marinade, with salad for us and rice for the DCs.

Today I've eaten:

Breakfast - greek yogurt, berries and nuts.

Lunch - portion of leftover moussaka from the other night - even better second time around....mmm...

Dinner - Chicken, chorizo and tomato sauce with garlic courgettes (and pasta for the DCs). Two squares of Lindt Seasalt Chocolate.

My weight has nicely stabilised over the last few weeks, tending to hover a pound or so either side of 9 stone, so I've stopped worrying that it's all going to pile back on. I spent yesterday afternoon sorting out all the clothes that are too big, and boxing them up for the loft - no, I will NOT be wearing those again (notice I'm not brave enough to throw them out, though).

Period due, so I'm a bit bloated, though. Bleugh.

No Sal, you will look gorgeous, you should be filled with confidence after all that weight loss. Walk tall and knock 'em dead!!

Enjoy St David's Day. Dressing up is a pain, though, it's bloody Book Day on Friday, heaven knows what I'll find for three of them to wear. Grrr...

Hi all

10 5 on Sat morning, 10 9.75 this morning after a weekend in Edinburgh at the rugby - not good for low carbing!

Feeling woozy this morning - too much booze and too much bad food. Bring back the clear headed low carb brain!

I am hoping to lose 3lb fairly sharpish and be back to 10 6-7 by Friday; then have a well behaved weekend and try to keep moving down.

Urggh. DH and I have been well behaved(ish) since NYE so a big weekend of boozing has really hit me.

napoleona · 01/03/2011 12:52

Hi ,i have been doing low-carb/atkins type thing since yesterday. can i drink diet coke/pepsi? also what kind of sauces if any are ok to go on meat? i find it all a bit dry so far. I have had scrambled egg for breakfast, prawn mayo and lettuce for lunch. not sure if im doing it right, i have a stone to lose which has crept on in a few months. thanks.

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2011 12:58

No news on schools, Sal, got to wait until 5pm apparently. I'm not sure my nerves can take it.

In between shovelling down forkfuls of lunch (smoked mackerel, coleslaw and rocket) I'm winding myself up by reading the "Waiting for Schools Results" thread. It's giving me indigestion!

Timbachick · 01/03/2011 14:21

CV - an reading that thread too. I am in London and have to wait until 5pm in order to be able to log on ... bet you any bloody thing that the sodding server goes down!!!

It did last year so I can't believe it's not going to go down this year too.

I feel sick with worry. Have had some lunch but didn't taste a thing.

Have to work this evening so won't find out 'til later anyway as DH is taking DS to his martial arts training. Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh.

FreeButtonBee · 01/03/2011 16:07

Fingers crossed for all the school's news.

HAd burrito salad for lunch - needed something tasty and filling to help the transition from weekend eating.

Napoleona - I think diet coke is okay in moderation on low carb but personally I hate the aspartame. Also there is some research that fake sugar can trick your body into releasing insulin anyway

I eat mayo, particularly garlic mayo, cream sauces, cheese, small amounts of relish/chutney once or twice a week, ditto with hummus, I eat a fair amount of salsa as well. I think you can get low carb tom sauce. Also olive oil and lemon juice is nice, partic on chicken. Marinades are your friend also - ginger garlic chilli herbs and spices in abudance.

How strict are you planning to be? Anything tomatoey will eat into your carb allowance.

FreeButtonBee · 01/03/2011 16:08

Oh don't forget coleslaw - you can make your own with more interesting veg in it. Fennel and red onion and such like - easy on the carrots though.
