so today is Day 1 of Phase 1 and I have had bacon and mushrooms for breakfast, felt really naughty as it was fried, but that is what the book says!

I am struggling already with the no caffeine - everything else is fine. I LOVE my coffee and de caff just isnt hitting the spot, but I suppose I will get used to it.

I have taken my vitamins, chromium and B12.complex B and a barocca so hopefully a burst of energy will come my way soon.

Got lots to do in the house today and the dogs to walk later, so that will take my mind off anything food related. Have stocked up on cheese and salad and tuna fish to have just incase I am hungry.

Anyone else doing this? Going to keep this thread as my 'diary'

Tonight's dinner was so delicious, I feel the need to share..

roasted butternut squash, halloumi and leaf salad. Roast the squash with some olive oil and cumin until soft and then cube it. Grill halloumi, or cube feta, and then add leaves, olives and some olive oil to dress.

I also added some beans and beetroot but I'm low GI ing now rather than low carbing.

Yum yum yum... feel really full now.

Well done on your loss Jax, I've just been away for a birthday weekend so now isn't going to be great for me to weigh in! I managed to get through the entire thing with one white wine spritzer though, so chuffed with that!!

JaxTellersOldLady · 21/02/2011 21:00

I think we are all doing great at this low carb/ low GI thingy.

My very first day I had some halloumi and I put myself off, it tasted so salty. Cant bring myself to eat more. Sad

I am loving my butternut squash soup, cant understand why I cant have sweet potato if I can eat squash/pumpkin though.

Any ideas?

I this the diet is all about watching the amount of carbs per day and obviously once the add the water to the soup the carbs in the butternut squash are spread quite widely... if you wanted to make sweet potato soup then provided you keep your carbs under 20-30g a day it would be ok too.

JaxTellersOldLady · 22/02/2011 14:21

so, if I want to make anything to eat, so long as my daily carbs are between 20-30g it is fine?

OP posts:
foreverondiet · 22/02/2011 16:01

That's what I understood from the book. The diet works on the principle that with total carb intake of less than 20g - 30g your body is in ketosis.

Thats why they recommed you set up an account with fitday, to record how much carbs you are having. 20g is not much, a few tomatoes, some nuts, and some butternut squash soup you'd be pretty much at the limit.

When I was sticking to it (and I only stopped because of the constipation problem) I was around 25g each day and did have occasional greek yoghurt.

I've gone back to low GI but haven't lost this week Sad although am getting close to target. Am tempted to have another dukan/IPD boost since lost 9lbs in 3 weeks when I did it. Only have 5lbs left to go.

JaxTellersOldLady · 22/02/2011 16:45

hmm, maybe I am not doing this right then. I have tomatoes etc in my salad and squash soup is my fave lunch at the moment.

Just made some chicken soup with some cauliflower blended in to give it some body instead of potato. I will chuck in some cream tomorrow and have that for lunch. At least the children will eat that! Although I managed to scald my arm and hand when the blender exploded - own fault as I had it too full, but OUCH!

foreverondiet · 22/02/2011 18:58

Some people are still in ketosis at higher levels of carbs so if you are still loosing its fine.

But there is nothing magic about why its ok to have butternut squash and not sweet potato other than sweet potato has slightly more carbs than butternut squash. They do say in the book to go easy on the carby veggies like tomatoes.

JaxTellersOldLady · 24/02/2011 10:02

Back in Scotland again, Dad had a few funny turns think it is clots floating around his body. Going to see his consultant this morning with Mum.

Diet still going well. Dont feel like I have lost anything but my clothes feel more loose so that is good. I can also feel rib cage just under my bust, must be losing inches this week.

hehe am cooking have lots of guests (will be 10 adults including me & DH) coming for lunch on saturday... 1 doing IPD & another doing "low fat low carbs", another vegetarian!

starter: smoked salmon & asaparus OR tomato & butternut squash soup (not really IPD friendly as has a couple of carrots and parsnips in it, but is low fat and veggie)
main:

  • cold cuts - salt beef and roast turkey breast
  • cooked mushroom salad with baby spinach
  • pastry free broccoli/cauliflower quiche
  • big green salad
  • meat stew no added fat, IPD person can pick out the meat!
  • carrot dish that is not diet friendly

desert: blueberries & other fruit for the dieters
non diet friendly date cake for everyone else

Just hope I can restrain myself have made enough diet friendly things. And hope I have catered for all eventualities.

JaxTellersOldLady · 28/02/2011 19:18

crikey forever that is a huge task to cater for everyone, hope they all appreciate the effort! I would, although I would just eat whatever you gave me and pick out anything I couldnt eat. Grin

Got home today, weighed myself and I have lost weight again. (I do feel surprised as I didnt 'feel' like I had) However it is noticeable on my clothes especially top half, boobs smaller and tops looser. Smile

well I am struggling to get back into my 'normal' routine after being in Scotland for so long. Have only just managed to feed myself breakfast which was nice, got loads to do today but not a lot of motivation.

Off I pop to fly threads to get my arse in gear. Grin

Jax, how much have you lost so far, and how much more do you want to lose? You are doing so well!

Hope your dad is a bit better and things are more settled for you.

I've lost another couple of pounds - now have 15lbs to target. It's very slow but steady. Had a couple of small biscuits today, and a few chocolate buttons but went for a run and have done 3 hours of decorating so think I've earned it today. Smile

JaxTellersOldLady · 02/03/2011 10:02

I have lost almost 1.5stone - according to all the different scales that I have used! I cant say for definite although the big number has been reduced by a whole stone.

I havent measured myself this week, but jeans are loose, bras are lose, face is slimmer and I can feel my ribs. Grin

I have about 3 or 4 stone to lose to be happy with my body again.

Quite happy with this way of eating, had scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast. Had a steak and purple cabbage last night for dinner.

I really dont mind not having potatoes etc.

JaxTellersOldLady wow well done, what fantastic loss in a month, esp with everything going on in your life.

JaxTellersOldLady · 02/03/2011 13:23

thanks very much forever I am finding this pretty easy going although I have a terrible craving for a proper scone!

carlywurly · 04/03/2011 20:10

Wow wow wow!!! That's brilliant Jax. Keep going!

I was chuffed this morning to find I've lost 10lbs now. I'm nearly halfway there. It seems to be very slow but steady. Low GI is great for me, I'm really enjoying my food.

JaxTellersOldLady · 05/03/2011 21:27

well had a bit of a slip up tonight, we had an Indian take away and I ate all the things I was allowed, veg, curry etc, but they sent 3 nan bread and I had a piece - not a huge piece, but still I ate it.

Didnt have rice if that is consolation for my tummy...

Come tomorrow I will be back on track, but tonight I now have a bit of a headache. Hmm

JaxTellersOldLady · 07/04/2011 13:56

so... still losing weight, inches more than pounds at the moment, but it is noticeable (people have commented) I have been eating small carbs - not a lot though and feel good.

OP posts:
foreverondiet · 07/04/2011 16:44

Hi Jax - well done, good you are still focussed very impressed - I'm still doing well too - still doing dukan style low carb (he allows low fat dairy and must have daily oatbran)... reached my original target of 9 5 but now going for 9 0!!!

Weight loss is long slow and boring though Sad have bought new clothes though in a size 10 Smile

JaxTellersOldLady · 07/04/2011 17:07

well done forever, you are doing so well. Weighed myself this afternoon (I know) and another 2lbs off!

I have eaten bread - but only a slice of wholemeal because I was so bloody hungry, but it wont do me any harm in the long run. Still being V good!

OP posts:
JaxTellersOldLady · 20/04/2011 08:51

bloody delicious! they wont last long as everyone likes them.
anyway... weight still coming off, clothes too big, belt on jeans to keep them on! All good!
