so today is Day 1 of Phase 1 and I have had bacon and mushrooms for breakfast, felt really naughty as it was fried, but that is what the book says!

I am struggling already with the no caffeine - everything else is fine. I LOVE my coffee and de caff just isnt hitting the spot, but I suppose I will get used to it.

I have taken my vitamins, chromium and B12.complex B and a barocca so hopefully a burst of energy will come my way soon.

Got lots to do in the house today and the dogs to walk later, so that will take my mind off anything food related. Have stocked up on cheese and salad and tuna fish to have just incase I am hungry.

Anyone else doing this? Going to keep this thread as my 'diary'

hi cheeser, welcome! I think this is perfect for losing a stone, I lost 7lbs in the first two weeks and have just over a stone to go. You'll probably get there in a matter of weeks.

I'm on day 15 now and have decided to stay on phase one for a while. I've booked an appointment with a nutritionist for next week, as I'd like to work on a long term version of this but know I won't be able to avoid carbs for life, being a veggie it's so tough, especially when you eat out.

Had some low carb granola with total yoghurt and one strawberry(!) this morning. Yummy, and filled me up until lunch. How is everyone else?

Foreverondiet · 08/02/2011 14:20

snowpoint yes harder as a veggie. I don't usually eat much meat/fish but am eating much more than normal.

Perhaps introduce legumes - they are low GI and contain protein. I just had a total yoghurt with my lunch - I will continue with phase 1 but with 2-3 yoghurts a week, and plan next (in a couple of weeks) to introduce some legumes.

JaxTellersOldLady · 08/02/2011 22:41

hi all! Welcome Cheeser. I have arrived safely in Scotland, Dad is V confused and extremely tired, infact, I would say exhausted. He couldnt remember that I had been up earlier in the day, when we were visiting this evening.

Anyway, the diet is easy. We had dinner at my sisters tonight and she had slow cooked a chicken and I had a breast with brocolli and cauliflower, filled me up.

This morning when travelling I stopped at a service station that had a Waitrose, picked up a box of baby plum tomatoes, some celery with sour cream and chive dip (full fat) and a huge bag of mixed nuts and a couple of bottles of water. Had the tomatoes and celery on my way up and had a salad nicoise when I got to my Mums.

I am very proud of myself today for not succuming to cheese and chive mash or chocolate and crisps. Grin

2 slices of grilled bacon, scrambled egg and 3 mushrooms for breakfast. Ready to face the day ahead!

woohoo

snowpoint · 09/02/2011 15:58

Well done Jax! And especially for not giving in to Waitrose temptation.. Grin

Day 16 here. Still going, definitely feel a bit slimmer but have lost over an inch off my chest but nothing off my not inconsiderable thighs so far. It's odd how it works..!

Did a Zumba class today and then jogged home (it's not far!) so feeling quite virtuous and pleased that I had the energy to get through it.

JaxTellersOldLady · 09/02/2011 22:47

well done snowpoint!

so far I have my Mum and Sister eating the same sort of things as me. It helps, but they cant stop talking about bloody food! I just block it out. Grin

Day 9 (i think) scrambled eggs and bacon again for breakfast.

Got to get back to drinking this water again, feel like I am not drinking enough, I should measure how much the glass I am using holds really shouldnt I? Wink

still resisting temptation.

Hope everyone is doing well too.

zipzap · 10/02/2011 14:33

Hope you don't mind me picking your brains about this...

I've been thinking about doing this looking at the book and hoping for it to work by osmosis but I have a real problem in that I hate drinking water. or coffee or tea or most things really. So I usually just drink fruit juice or elderflower cordial.

But I think that this would probably screw up this diet given that you are supposed to drink loads and avoid sugary stuff and I then end up with the worst possible combination - and end up putting lots of weight on because my juice screwed it all up.

Does anybody else doing this have any good ideas of what I could drink that would work with this diet (rest of it I could do relatively easily I think). And please don't say water - I've tried drinking it over the years and whilst I can now sip a little without gagging, i couldn't drink enough to get by on. I know IABU about that but that's a whole other discussion, I'm just wondering if anyone has found any nice drinks that work with this!

Thanks in advance - and it's great to see that so many of you are finding success with this, hopefully will be joining you soon.

Foreverondiet · 10/02/2011 15:00

I think you really need to learn to drink water. TBH am a bit Shock that an adult can't drink it.

I do drink occasional diet sprite & fanta, if I feel peckish, to avoid me having worse and I can't see why you couldn't drink that or occasional cordial as long it was artifically sweetened. But I don't think this diet works without water - at least 2 litres a day - they even say in the book that you can have herbal tea but it doesn't count in the 2 litres. Maybe try it with very very dilute artificially sweetened cordial.

But fruit juice is very calorific and not really suitable for a weight loss diet, apple juice has around 470 calories a litre. As you need to drink roughly 2 litres of liquids a day to be properly hydrated, that would be nearly 1000 calories on drink - probably most of your daily allowance.

snowpoint · 10/02/2011 16:00

I'm fussy about drinks too, and used to mainly drink brown things (diet coke, coffee and tea.. Shock ) but have surprised myself and grown to love water. Could you not have something like Robinson's sugar free squash in water, but gradually dilute the amount until it's barely there?

Other than that, I love the rooibos tea, and am doing fine with decaff tea and coffee. Twinings earl grey decaff is lovely. A lot of this is breaking old habits, you'll be fine once you get going.

Cheeser · 10/02/2011 17:05

hi everyone. Started the diet today - it feels like I've actually eaten quite a lot Confused

I've had: breakfast - three slices of bacon with two fried eggs. cup of rooibos tea.

No snacks till lunch, when I ate a grilled turkey escallop, some buttered cabbage, then a little side salad of lettuce, half a tomato, cucumber, with an olive oil and lemon dressing.

Went to the shops and bought some snacks, and I've had this afternoon about two handfuls of pistachios, one slice of parma ham and a little stick of red leicester cheese.

I've had 1.5 litres to drink already.

Am I eating too much? Feel a bit strange, kind of light headed, but i'm not exactly hungry. Bit of a headache though. Keep fantasising about cold milk on cornflakes Blush. I think I'll miss my milk doing this...

JaxTellersOldLady · 10/02/2011 19:46

cheeser sounds like you are doing very well! The light headedness is due to carb/sugar/caffeine withdrawal, it goes away after a day or so.
I feel like I am eating too much too, but know that I am not. I have what is 'allowed' although it is definitely more food than I normally have in a day and I have lost weight.

Wont know my weight until I go back home though... unless I buy new scales while I am in Scotland. hmmm I feel a shopping trip coming on.

I have a terrible, terrible craving for something sweet today, chocolate mostly but absolutely anything. I know my Mum has a fridge drawer full of crap choccie biscuits, bars and all things sweet. Have resisted so far and will continue to do so.

Had some sliced ham and brocolli with a sprinkle of grated mature cheddar for lunch, was lovely, didnt feel hungry again until 6ish so had some cauliflower with chicken breast with a cheese, bacon and leek sauce. It didnt fill me up so I cooked a chicken tikka breast and have just scoffed that!

OP posts:
Cheeser · 11/02/2011 10:30

Thanks Jax!

How long has it been since you've weighed? I would be tempted to get some more scales Wink

Felt very weak-legged this morning. Feel weird. My body feels like I should be hungry (all weak, limp and pathetic) but I'm actually not hungry at all. Very odd.

Breakfast this morning was two sausages, a fried egg and some mushrooms. I got them at the work canteen - should I be concerned over how much meat was in the sausages? I couldn't face bacon again this morning. It's not super cheap in there and they appear to use reasonable ingredients... would it make me look odd if I emailed the canteen manager asking how much meat is in his sausages? Hmm Blush

JaxTellersOldLady · 11/02/2011 22:12

I weighed last Monday and havent weighed since, I cant believe it myself.

Dont want to use anyone elses scales incase they are wonky... or say something I dont like. I am desperate for something sweet but not doing to ruin it.

FauxFox · 12/02/2011 07:17

Hi everyone, just thought i'd pop in and say - end of phase 1 for me today and i'm a total of 11lbs down for the fortnight Grin hope you all get the losses you want, Jax sounds like you are doing v. well in tricky circs - good luck!

JaxTellersOldLady · 12/02/2011 07:39

thanks fauxfox

you have done well too! 11 lbs in 2 weeks. woweeeee reward yourself, go get new knickers/bra/top shoes handbag to make yourself feel even better.

There will be much less of us come Summer! Grin

We have been invited to a friends tonight while we are all in Scotland for drinks and dinner, but 1. I am not particularly good company as I am shattered with hospital runs and looking after my Mum. 2. Dont want to explain why I can only drink water and eat certain food and lastly 3. I dont want to inconvenience them to make me certain foods or not make me certain food.

OP posts:
FauxFox · 12/02/2011 07:47

Just do the best you can Jax the world doesn't stop for a diet does it? Can you be the driver to excuse you from drinking? If you avoid the "obvious" carbs in the dinner (pots/bread/rice/pastry/pasta etc) i'm sure it will be OK - fingers crossed it's not pasta!

Lizzylou · 12/02/2011 09:16

Hello, just popping in.
I am on day 11 and am only 1lb down. I am menstrual at the moment, so that could be it, I normally put on 3-4lb at this time.
I have not strayed, not once. No alcohol, caffeine, nothing carby at all, eating only what is allowed, drinking more than 2litres water a day (weeing loads Grin).
I am not getting down about it, I feel lighter and am enjoying the diet, we will see what Tuesday brings. Feel silly I didn't measure myself before starting as I have prob lost inches

Jax, you sound like you're doing fabulously.

Fauxfox, 11lbs! Wow. I wish!

Zipzap, I put a 2litre bottle of water (filtered tap) in the fridge, if water is ice cold can you manage it? How about with a slice of lemon or lime in?

Foreverondiet · 12/02/2011 18:56

Well today is day 14 but I need to rethink things a bit. I have done 3 weeks of low carbing (one week of dukan and 2 weeks of P2T) and have lost 9lbs which is fab because I am very close to target (5lbs to go, have lost over 37lbs in total.

Although I am getting good weight loss with low carbing, I am also getting totally constipated. This was the reason I switched from dukan to P2T (thought the veggies would make it better but it hasn't really worked).

I am already having at least 2 drinks of psyllium husk (vile stuff) a day, plus drinking gallons of water plus taking movicol (laxative from GP). The reason I have the movicol from the GP is that I have an recurrant anal fissure so am not allowed to get constipated (ie pass a hard poo) - which means that if it gets worse I'll be in huge amounts of pain - surgeon has says he doesn't want to operate... as too risky after 3 VBs.

I am desperate to reach my target... but DH thinks I should go back on sensible low GI diet with lots of fibre (eg shredded wheat), ryvita and loose it more slowly.

JaxTellersOldLady · 13/02/2011 08:38

forever I am not a Dr so cant advise you but if you read the book or P2T I am sure they give you advice about constipation.

You are doing really well on your weightloss so far.

Are you eating enough fats, good fats, avocado, nuts etc? Just a thought I had. Smile

OP posts:
JaxTellersOldLady · 13/02/2011 10:23

went out for dinner last night, had steak with a side salad and rocket & parmesan. quite nice, glass of sparkling water was my highlight! Sat there while everyone else had dessert and I had a coffee with cream. Grin

I thought it would bother me, but it didnt. There actually wasnt much on the menu that I would have had for dessert anyway. Have also realised recently that much of the food that I would have eaten was just because it was there - not that I actually wanted it or was hungry. So that must be a step forward. The only thing that has really bothered me while being up in Scotland is the lovely scones that my mum gets from the bakers. I have missed having one of those as they are lovely, but not so much so that I cheated.

Oh, and when we were all walking the dogs at the beach yesterday it is our 'tradition' to get an ice cream (no matter what the weather) from the Italian shop afterwards, I got a salad from the coffee shop next door!

My niece said I must have some amazing willpower, didnt think I had, but they were all having icecream/sweets cake and it really didnt bother me.

MUST get some scales or at least a measuring tape - I have been so good that I will be gutted if I havent lost anything.

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 13/02/2011 11:18

Forever, hmm, I think it sounds like you need fruit if you are still having problems. Perhaps for these last few pounds go onto the week in Phase 2 where you can eat berries?
Have you looked at the Pig2twig website? Am sure there'll be some guidance there.
Well done on your weight loss, you've done so well!

Jax, well done on the willpower! I am not missing anything at the moment, I have to plan breakfast as I was a cereal/toast person and I don't like eggs but now I am happy with avocado and ham or bacon and mushrooms (who wouldn't be?).

I am on day 12 and really feel good, have exercised at least 6 days our of 7, gym/running/DVD and Zumba. If I am not a Goddess in 1 month I may sue Wink

Have you tried celeriac dauphinoise? Blimey it is gorgeous, nicer than with potatoes imo.

JaxTellersOldLady · 13/02/2011 11:38

no I havent tried celeriac dauphinoise, will wait until I get home to do that. It isnt easy to cook in Mums house and I dont have much time to cook at the moment, running up and down to hospital every day, but I have been having meat with salad/veg and not yet bored with it.

I have my Kindle with me with the N&I book on, but havent read it much while up here. I have been walking while the dogs were up at the weekend, and will walk my Mums little dog - although he is tiny and doesnt need much. Better than nothing though. Grin

OP posts:
Foreverondiet · 13/02/2011 14:07

Lizzylou - sadly I don't think berrys are going to be enough, because I need to significantly increase the amount of fibre in my diet.

I can do low(ish carbs) but very low carb isn't going to work. I went out for lunch with a friend who is a GP and she said IHO not a great idea to be having that amount of movicol...

Am a bit Sad as low carb was working well from a weight loss perspective. Am going to go back to tesco diets & do low GI instead.

JaxTellersOldLady · 13/02/2011 17:53

forever you do what is best for you and your body. Maybe add some porridge with oat bran to help your bowels.
