so today is Day 1 of Phase 1 and I have had bacon and mushrooms for breakfast, felt really naughty as it was fried, but that is what the book says!

I am struggling already with the no caffeine - everything else is fine. I LOVE my coffee and de caff just isnt hitting the spot, but I suppose I will get used to it.

I have taken my vitamins, chromium and B12.complex B and a barocca so hopefully a burst of energy will come my way soon.

Got lots to do in the house today and the dogs to walk later, so that will take my mind off anything food related. Have stocked up on cheese and salad and tuna fish to have just incase I am hungry.

Anyone else doing this? Going to keep this thread as my 'diary'

ooh they often film Midsomer near where I live.

OP posts:
JaxTellersOldLady · 03/02/2011 12:38

OMG! The butternut squash soup is amazingly good. I used lemon thyme instead of normal thyme and it really helped the flavour. Going to put whats left in a tub so I have some for tomorrow.

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 03/02/2011 15:37

I may make that tomorrow then Jax.

Sorry for mispelling Midsomer!

Today I have felt much more hungry, but it could just be hormones. I am very tired and looking forward to bed, no caffeine to give me an energy boost!

JaxTellersOldLady · 03/02/2011 21:52

you are doing really well lizzy without caffeine, I just decided it was a step too far for me, although I have cut down.

Made the faux shepherds pie for dinner. It was nice, kids were not impressed and opted out. Neither did they like my squash soup. All the more for me!

Did you see This Morning earlier? They were doing a whole piece about midsomer murders and the location. Was weird seeing all the places I know as a film set.

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 04/02/2011 09:43

Well, I went to sleep at 8.30pm last night! Shock Must be the lack of caffeine I suppose.

I have made the butternut squash soup for lunch and have had avocado for breakfast. Not that hungry today.

Not sure what is for dinner yet.

I didn't watch This Morning, I work from home so switching on the TV would be fatal. As is switching on MN tbh!

I really don't like cauliflower, I mean really detest it, wonder if I should bother making that? They do say they didn't like it at first...

JaxTellersOldLady · 04/02/2011 10:02

it doesnt taste much like cauliflower, but then I dont think it tastes of anything really. I do love my veggies, which is good.

this morning I had 2 boiled eggs with asparagus. I have got 2 children off school today so no idea what is going on. Off to Doctors soon.

OP posts:
ImFab · 04/02/2011 10:19

Be careful that the sausages don't have any bread products or oil other than olive or groundnut in them.

JaxTellersOldLady · 04/02/2011 18:33

ImFab I didnt look, but they were 90something % meat. bugger. Will read the labels next time.

Put the shepherds pie in the oven tonight to brown it and reheat and it was much nicer than last night when I just put it on the plate straight from the wok and blender. It really doesnt taste like cauliflower at all.

Had a bit of a rubbish day today, felt ok, but I really really wanted chocolate and started talking to myself (in my head) about how it would be ok to have some proper chocolate and I still looked ok ish and, well you know how it goes? Blush

Anyway, gave myself a shake, took the dog out for a long walk and drank another glass of water and had a little handful of nuts when I got home. Felt much better. Phew. Imagine how crappy I would be feeling now if I had scoffed something 'naughty'?

OP posts:
ImFab · 04/02/2011 20:17

You can have a small amount of dark or plain (can't remember which) chocolate in phase two.

FauxFox · 05/02/2011 08:16

Day 7 for me...weighed in at 10st12 which is 6lbs off this week Grin

Good luck everyone - this works!

JaxTellersOldLady · 05/02/2011 09:06

well done fauxfox that is really good.

Today is day 5 for me and I am desperate to weigh myself, just to see if anything is happening - except for me drinking lots of water and weeing often!

Off to make scrambled eggs and bacon. Grin

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 05/02/2011 10:26

Wow Fauxfox that is great, I sneaky peeked at the scales this monring and 2lbs up!
But this could all be my body getting used to things, am on day 4 and shouldn't really have gone on the scales. Am still sticking with it, to the letter, which is fab for me.

I went to the gym last night and again this morning and have been drinking soo much water I reckon I get another workout walking to the loo so often Grin

Jax, I know I will have a day like that as well, well done for not succumbing.

JaxTellersOldLady · 05/02/2011 17:12

well I did step on the scales and it looks like 4lbs OFF!

Which is amazing, because I felt like I was a bit bloated, however (TMI moment coming up) I have been pooing for England today and feel much better now, not that I wasnt 'regular' on previous days. So sorry that was definitely TMI.

My DC godparents popped round earlier for a cuppa and brought 2 packets of bloody hot cross buns from M&S, so I opened up the packets, put the butter, jam, plates out on coffee table, told them to help themselves and went and made coffee/tea for them all, got myself a little handful of nuts and sat and ate them while they all scoffed hot X buns. I felt very good for not succuming to temptation.

there are some left, put them in the bread bin for the DC and DH to eat. I wont eat them. I WONT!

I made Broccoli and Stilton soup for lunch today, wasnt as nice as the butter nut squash soup, but still nice.

roast chicken and salad for dinner tonight, kids can have mash with theirs.

snowpoint · 06/02/2011 13:40

hi everyone, I'm on day 13 now, and going strong! I've been making soup by the gallon - courgette and tarragon yesterday, and cauliflower, broccoli and blue cheese the day before.

Dinner last night was baked aubergine with halloumi and a big green salad. Yummy.
I've discovered total greek yoghurt (sold in Asda) which is very low carb and tastes amazing with a tiny bit of almond essence, or some sugar free maple syrup/ It's hitting that pudding craving spot.

I'm trying to stick to 20gms carbs per day, and have 18lbs still to lose. When should I start increasing carbs? I know I'm not going to be able to keep this up forever, and I could do with a bit more energy to go running. I'm a bit light headed at the moment.

JaxTellersOldLady · 06/02/2011 19:01

hi snowpoint If you are still on phase1 I think you can increase your carbs as of tomorrow when you are starting phase2.

I wouldnt go running on this diet at the moment though.

Had scrambled eggs for breakfast today and brocoli and stilton soup for lunch with a side salad and a bit of chicken.

Steak with rocket and a bit of sliced brie on top. Full up again now. Not managed to drink all my water so far today, been out and about and I forgot to take a bottle with me and couldnt get any where I was.

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 06/02/2011 19:07

Well, this had better work!
I have been to see my new niece today, took my own ham, brie, rocket and olive salad whilst everyone else ate pizza. Went to visit my Grandmother who was trying to ply me with biscuits, chocolates and sweets and then made the boys and DH sticky toffee pudding and custard.

At that point I humphed off with a herbal tea.

Thing is, I feel fat and bloated, I really do and from the photos of today I look it too. I am not sure this is the diet for me, I really am doing it all by the book. Not a sniff of booze, no caffeine, no sneaky bits of biscuit or chocolate.

I feel a bit like crying at the moment!

Foreverondiet · 06/02/2011 19:09

I have been fine running on phase 1... each person is different and I would have thought it ok to make exception to have porridge before a run if you don't have energy otherwise - I often work out first thing in morning on empty stomach as I get a stitch if I've eaten within a few hours of running - remember in the book they don't really envisage you exercising on phase 1.

Thanks for the tip about the total greek yoghurt which I really like, had been avoiding yoghurts as I thought they were high carbs. I have managed to to keep carbs below 30grams a day but not lower due to veggies.

I am on day 8. I am going to move to phase 2 after 2 weeks but do so slowly (starting with yoghurt which I am really missing). I only have around 1/2 stone to loose though.

Going out for dinner tonight with friends... although I choose the restuarant - grill - plan to having steak & salad.

JaxTellersOldLady · 06/02/2011 20:33

well done lizzy and forever I love the Total yoghurt and cant wait to include it in my diet.

I was reading a friends Dukan diet book, just a quick read and they let you have soy sauce and everything.

the only thing I cant quite deal with is there is not list of allowed foods on this diet. I know there is a shopping list, but I NEED a list of what I can and cant eat.

Also cant wait for porridge for breakfast again either. It is a quick breakfast for me and the family.

OP posts:
Foreverondiet · 06/02/2011 22:30

Dukan allows fat free dairy - milk, yoghurt, cottage cheese etc. I started of doing dukan, but I couldn't maintain it as every second day is supposed to be protein only (ie no vegetables). Dukan is low carb and low fat, but he does require oatbran to be eaten each day.

I then decided to do Neris and India (am on day 8), but actually might go back to dukan but have veggies each day... I really just want to do low fat low carb....I am now reading south beach diet book - DH says that if I got thin by reading diet books I'd be invisible by now LOL!

JaxTellersOldLady · 07/02/2011 08:37

lol Forever, me too!

I am going to stick with neris and India, working for me so far. Maybe we should write a new book, combining this and Dukan.

Grin

Going off to make breakfast now, not sure what I will have today, didnt feel hungry at 6 or 7, but am hungry now.

OP posts:
Foreverondiet · 07/02/2011 09:29

I lost 2.5lbs on N&I in first few days, and was amazed by this as had lost 4lbs on dukan the previous week, (have already lost 2 stone on calorie counting).... but no weight loss this week despite following v carefully.

Will stick to N&I for the 2 week duration, but then will introduce the things that dukan allows eg yoghurt/cottage cheese next, but will look out for low carb varieties.

snowpoint · 07/02/2011 13:05

Day 14 for me today! I weighed in this morning and I'm down 6.4 lbs from my start weight. Grin

Have decided I'm going to very gradually reintroduce good carbs, such as brown rice and brown pasta, and drop fat slightly as I do that. I'm going to do the shred workout every day from next week, and start jogging again. I would be worried about being sstarving hungry on a low carb, low fat plan.

I've bought some lactofree milk to use for coffee rather than cream (never liked cream in coffee!)

Am steering clear of bread and potatoes for a good while yet. Still have 17lbs to go, but am planning to do this over a few months.

JaxTellersOldLady · 07/02/2011 20:15

okey dokey, day 7 for me and all going well. I have been scoffing nuts when a bit hungry and been drinking my water like a good girl. I have found the more that I drink, the more I want to drink, if that makes sense?

Think I am heading up to Scotland tomorrow as my Dad has been taken into hospital again with another possible stroke, so might not be on this thread as much, although I might pilfer my nephews laptop. Grin

I will try my very very best not to stray and will take my book with me to keep me on track.

Under no illusion that this will be harder up there than at home.

Weighed myself today and not sure my scales were accurate. I can either have lost over 2 stone or put on a lb! hmmf, think I might need to invest in a better pair of scales. My favourite ones have died and a friend gave me the ones I am using now.

OP posts:
snowpoint · 07/02/2011 20:46

hope all goes well for you, Jax. Sorry to hear about your dad.
And I hope you've lost 2 stone rather than gained the lb!

Cheeser · 08/02/2011 10:46

hi everyone, can I join in? I've got the book and am itching to get started, it sounds like something i can really stick to.

I'm off to the health food shop at lunch - did everyone buy the recommended vitamins etc? Want to start tomorrow.

I only want to lose a stone, do you think this is a bit too hardcore for that or will i still get what I want from it? Smile
