Yes it really is a pretty hefty change of mindset from Atkins and all that we thought was Right and Proper.

Except...it continues to work for me and I have lost about 20 lbs now. I am half a stone away from target which is a whole new feeling!

I agree that it is hugely inconsistent and that he seems to forget that low fat seems to equal high carb with stuff like yoghurts, but on the other hand it seems to be working. It's probably due to the massive calorie reduction as I know quite a few old seasoned atkins types were probably overdoing the cheese/nuts/cream thing, self included.

I aim to get to target and then do the consolidation phase which reintroduces quite a lot of normal food, and see if it really does stabilise. Reckon that could be a while away yet though as this last half stone is going veeerrrry sloooowly...

Katisha · 03/09/2010 21:45

PS I really like my galettes - I make them savoury with 2 eggs and a load of bran and it's like a beefed up omelette.

nannynick · 03/09/2010 22:10

Can I join? - (for those on twitter, you may notice that I have already Grin).

Not sure what we are meant to do mind... I've tweeted my starting weight.

How often is weigh in?

chipmonkey · 03/09/2010 22:52

Every Friday, at 7.00 am sharp, Nick. Naked and with no jewellry!

nannynick · 03/09/2010 22:55

7am! If I'm not working, I will probably still be in bed.

chipmonkey · 03/09/2010 23:25

7am my lad, or Victorious will drag you out of bed her majestic self!

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/09/2010 09:40

Katisha - you're definitely right about the cheese and nuts! I am going to knock those on the head from now on, and try and reign in my Sauvignon habit!

Welcome, nannynick.

VictoriousSponge · 04/09/2010 16:17

BudaisintheZONE · 04/09/2010 16:32

Hi cakey thing! We not good enough any more??? You never call. You never write. Grin You could at least pop in and shout say hello. Some of us are in need of shouting at. Dinky is doing her best but she needs back up!

pointydog · 05/09/2010 12:50

I'm not going to twitter but goo dluck.

Harsh target though.

I have maintained weight loss over summer and am almost smug with myself. I only want to lose another 6lb.

thereistheball · 07/09/2010 11:58

Hi! i'm in, starting today. Somehow managed to put 9lb on in a week on holiday (predictable since we were in Ddevon scoffing cream teas and chips). So now I have a stone and a half to lose. Am back to low-carbing with a spinach salad w bacon, cheese, avocado, tomato, red onion and fried mushrooms for lunch, and no booze til the weekend (when my town has an annual wine and cheese fair, or 3 day piss-up). I always really love this diet when I get into it.

Am on twitter as TisILeclerc, will follow this there too.

nannynick · 07/09/2010 14:29

What is a reasonable target to lose per week? Did a weight check and I'm 4lb lower than Friday. So suppose I'm averaging 1lb a day... is that too fast a rate, too slow, or about average?

MayorNaze · 07/09/2010 14:30

well i have to say so far it is not going well

though pilates is FAB you all must try it

will start running again tomorrow

running is ace you can eat like an oinker and stay slim Grin

ShirleyKnot · 07/09/2010 14:37

nanny - if this is your first diet for a while and you have a fair bit to lose it is possible to lose quite a big chunk in the first week. TRY not to weigh every day, I find it really counterproductive.

NOW, to my problem,

OK, I am low carbing and have been v v good. No bread/rice/pasta crap whatsoever. First 10 days I lost about 8 lbs. Well, I have lost NOTHING for the last week, and in fact a pound snuck on over the weekend. What the Jeff?

I've started exercising now, and I'm hoping that's going to help, but I'm starting to lose faith with the low carbing and wondering if my metabolism is just completely and utterly screwed.

thereistheball · 07/09/2010 14:40

msboogie - you still here? I just reread your plea for low-carb meal plans. I love to meal plan. What do you like to eat?

nannynick - first week weight loss can be dramatic if you are low-carbing. Keep going. The weight loss will slow down after the first couple of weeks to about 1-2lb a week as long as you keep it up.

pointydog · 07/09/2010 18:57

a reasonable target to lose a week is 1-2 lb

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/09/2010 21:06

Shirley - from all my low carb reading, as well as membership of another forum specifically about low carbing, it's very common to find that in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5, weight loss can stall. So many people report it that I can genuinely say that it would seem to be the 'norm'!

Don't panic or get downhearted - just carry on, and you'll see things get going again.

It's not about your metabolism being screwed. Just don't do anything to jeopardise/sabotage all your good work so far!

ShirleyKnot · 08/09/2010 09:15

Ah! Is that right? How strange. It's ok BIWI, I've got a lot more energy, I'm sleeping like a baby, and I'm not hungry, so got no plans on going back to the bread.

I was wondering if I should cut back on the fats a bit, and maybe cut right back on the salads.

I am NOT giving up coffee. NO WAY.

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/09/2010 13:03

Don't cut back on the fats - and don't cut back on salads either! You need the former to help burn fat (no idea why/can't remember why!) and the latter for important nutrients.

Just carry on doing what you've been doing and be patient.

If you want a bit more info, there are two low carb sites that are worth a look:

India Knight/Neris Thomas site, supporting The Idiot Proof Diet

and

This is a forum I have used since I first started low carbing.

The latter is really quiet these days, so posts may take a while to be answered - but there's loads of information in the archives that's worth a look.

thereistheball · 08/09/2010 15:42

Shirley - also, if you are about to get your period, water retention can make it look as if you are stalling or even gaining, but it will come off in a week.

ShirleyKnot · 08/09/2010 16:34

Thanks lovely BIWI. I will check those links out tonight (after doing day 3 of the 30 day shred which is actually hurting me more than childbirth)

thereistheball - thanks but I haven't had a period for 2 years (coil not menopause!) hmm, maybe that's what making me fat. a HUGE WOMB.

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/09/2010 18:05

Oh, and I have never given up coffee either!

cyb · 08/09/2010 18:07

I have given up

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/09/2010 18:18

Given up coffee or given up ipodge?!

ShirleyKnot · 09/09/2010 09:29

no Cyb!

Come on, come and hold my hand and we can be not losing weight biffers together.
