Guitargirl, I am so sorry to hear your news.

Iluvcake, delighted to hear you're moving away from the cravings. Good luck with the class! Pu-erh tea is a very earthy tasting tea that aids digestion and boosts metabolism. Dunno how well that works for the population at large, but it's definitely working for me!

Dinky, you are dead right about the sustainable weight. I would love to drop to around 9 stone, but realistically I won't be able to sustain it. 9'5 is much more sustainable for me. I need to get as far away from 10 stone as possible though. Something happens in my head when I hit 10 stone. I just lose all reason and biff like my life depends on it!

dinkystinky · 21/10/2010 10:07

Thanks all. Feeling better today.

Iluv - you're doing so well. I think one treat a day (as long as you stick to just one) is fine and should satisfy your sugar fix. Take it really easy when you get back to exercise, especially with a neck injury, and make sure you dont do anything that hurts or causes a dull ache or twinge. Also as is so cold out there make sure you really warm up your whole body (including shoulder and neck muscles) on Friday for your bootcamp session and listen to your body. Believe me, I know (walking wounded emoticon).

Encyclogirl - 9'5 sounds a good weight for you and you are so nearly there. AS I said in my earlier post, its about what works for you and your lifestyle, not just the numbers on the scales. Its great you're in the zone and enjoying it - you're a good poster girl for the thread Grin

BudaisintheZONE · 21/10/2010 10:12

Hi all

Still doing ok foodwise. Not so good on the exercise. No change there then!

Fancied chocolate last night which is not like me and DS was having some so I had ONE of his. Just one. And really enjoyed it.

Packing today for UK trip. We leave early Saturday and am busy all day tomorrow.

Glad you are feeling better dinky.

iluvcake · 21/10/2010 10:28

Well done everyone!!Smile

Thanks for the advice, Dinky. I am a bit nervous about hurting my neck again so will take it easy and definitely wrap up warm-it's so cold out! The thought of a boot camp on Friday does not appeal but I do it with friends so you have to have a REALLY good excuse to not turn up, lol!

justaminute, know exactly what you mean! I've had less sleep than I normally have this week but have more energy. Sugar is an energy robber!

Guitargirl · 22/10/2010 07:41

Thanks for your kind words everyone.

You all sound like you're doing really well Smile! Hope you all get great results on the scales today...

I have put on a pound. Not too bad considering what I have managed to consume this week. I had a good day yesterday which I think limited the damage on the scales this morning. I do feel like am getting back in the zone slowly!

dinkystinky · 22/10/2010 09:17

Guitargirl - that pound is nothing (could even be water retention!). Glad you feel you're finding your way back to the zone - be kind to yourself though.

After my gastric flu this week I have lost all of 1/2 a lb Hmm Just goes to show how arbitrary the scales are as my food consumption has been pretty minimal....

justaminute · 22/10/2010 09:27

Grrrrrr I have ZERO self control. All good work resisting sugar was undone big style last night. Back to square one for me.

On the plus side I'm giving blood this afternoon - surely I'll lose a pound there Wink Do you think I can allow myself the custard creams they give afterwards...purely medical reasons Grin

dinkystinky · 22/10/2010 09:43

Justaminute - what triggered the sugar binge last night? You need to look at why it happened to stop it happening again. You can do it - just ban all sugar based substances from your household and go sugar cold turkey if need be Grin

iluvcake · 22/10/2010 12:32

Morning everyone!

justaminute-have you weighed yourself today? Just put it behind you and carry on...

I am a bit disappointed with my weight loss-1 and half pounds. However, I was a shade over ten stone when started posting so in my head, I'm going to say two pounds!

My problem is, as soon as I start to see losses, I take it as a green light to start biffing. I have already had six chocolate coins this morning-I tell myself I deserve it because I had a really hard fitness class this morning.

What I should be telling myself instead is I deserve to be slim!

This coming week going to be hard as half term and lots on, days trips out and a possible european break.

I'm still listening to the Paul Mckenna CD which I think helps-justaminute-perhaps it might help you?

iluvcake · 22/10/2010 12:48

Pressed post by mistake!

Agree with dinky-I only buy biscuits and cakes that DS and DH like (apart from Breakaways-oops!-must get rid of them AND the choc coinsBlush-they are going to school this afternoon anyway....).

I HAVE had the odd breakaway but if I have too much sugar in the house, it just triggers a biffing episode.

OR could you have the odd thing if you go out but not have ANYTHING in the house. I have struggled cutting it out TOTALLY and sometimes just knowing you can have something small once a day keeps you going.

dinkystinky-could your metabolism have slowed down if you've been ill? Not sure how long it takes to slow down but maybe if you've not been moving around a lot?

justaminute · 22/10/2010 19:55

Thanks for the support dinky & iluv.

iluv, we are so similar the biffing last night was (in part) because I'd been so good for 4 days I saw the green light to biff. dh was out, I allowed myself a snacksize twix to have with my coffee, then another, then another and then I thought "sod it - dh will know I've been a pig I might as well eat the lot, hide the evidence and replace the pack so he doesn't know" Blush

I've borrowed the Paul Mckenna book from the library in the past. When do you find the time to listen to the CD? It's probably not a good idea to listen to it whilst driving and I used to fall asleep if I put it on at bedtime. I struggle with the visualisation techniques too, I find it hard to imagine times when I felt/ looked great - I think therein lies the problem with my comfort / binge eating.Sad

I went for the salt & vinegar crisps after giving blood this afternoon, thought it best to avoid the sugar options after last nightWink.

iluvcake · 23/10/2010 10:19

Hi justaminute. You have done really well so far, don't beat yourself up-just keep at it. I didn't have a brilliant day yesterday. Food wise, very healthy but the chocolate coin count went up to 10Blush and I had three choc chip biscuits(small ones!)-again, sugar bought for people coming for coffee, sigh!

I know exactly what you're talking about re the twix episode. i've done exactly the same thing many, many times. DH being away for the night for me used to be a chance for me to overdose on sugar.

Listening to Paul Mckenna-it's hard to fit it in sometimes and I haven't listened for two days. I usually try and do it straight after the school run but then again, I'm not working ATM. If you can't imagine a time when you looked good, think of what you would like to look like and keep that image in your head. I like to imagine my head on say, Christy Turlington's body!Blush

Keep going over the weekend-good luck!!

encyclogirl · 23/10/2010 21:36

Hi Justaminute and iluvcake, you're describing me for a whole year. I remember walking towards the cupboard where the crisps were justifying my bag of walkers. "Why not? Only 150 cals. Been a shit day really. Need something nice....etc, etc"

The only way to stop it was to literally pass a law in my house that I cannot eat anything after 7.00pm.

I have stocked up on really yummy herbal teas and have some every night instead of biffage. I'm currently sipping a Blackberry and Nettle.

This discipline didn't come easy mind you. I had to claw my way towards it, but I got there in the end.

Hang in there girls, just try, try and try again. It will come!

Couldn't weigh in this week, my scales' batteries are low and they're those stupid disc ones. Early on in the week I was down half a pound...9stone 8.5lbs, so I'm posting that as my weight.

dinkystinky · 25/10/2010 09:06

Ladies - can I suggest the nail polish technique for when you feel a biff coming? Paint your nails and have a drink (herbal tea or water) while they dry. Can guarantee that 9 times out of 10 the urge to biff will have passed by the time your nails have finally dried.

Encyclogirl - you are so nearly at target. Go you!

iluvcake · 25/10/2010 09:43

Good tip, dinkystinky! Will try that. I know I'm going to find this week hard as it's half term and I'm not in my usual routine. Am just going to try as hard as I can.

Didn't do too badly over the weekend but was staying with SIL and I did resist the doughnuts with coffee-had a quarter of a bluberry muffin instead. Yesterday after Sunday lunch there was chocolate brownie pudding with Haagen Daaz and I'm sorry to say, I just couldn't sit there watching everyone else eat it. I only had a small portion though! We also went on a four mile walk so I must have cancelled a bit out!

Will try and do some exercise this week too.

justaminute · 25/10/2010 23:20

All is good here...

I have the week off work Smile

The replacement bag of Twix is still intact Smile Smile

I have lost 2lb Smile Smile Smile

iluvcake · 26/10/2010 09:52

That's fantastic justaminute!!Smile

Am afraid to say I had a rubbish day yesterday. Bought some biscuits as possibly had friends coming, who then didn't. I have eaten fiveSad. They were choc chip shortbread as well! Also ate about five chocolate coins(had some left over of the ones I was taking to school).

Have started with porridge this morning and am going out for the day. Have a healthy packed lunch and a beef stew in the slow cooker for dinner.

Doing some halloween baking tomorrow with DS and some friends' kids. Will allow myself one cake and that's it.

I have put on half a pound. Can't stop weighing myself. I also haven't managed to fit in any exercise yet, bit difficult over half term (As I type, I know I'm making excusesSad).

encyclogirl · 26/10/2010 10:19

Justamin, that's fab! 2lbs is a fantastic loss! Well done :)

Cake, half term is a disaster for many because the routine is completely gone. Especially if you SAH. Today is a new day. You've started well and have a plan for the day. Just stick with that.

Fecking Halloween with all it's delicious candy and cake! Thank God we don't have Thanksgiving! I have freinds in the US who estimate they gain around 10lbs during their Holiday season...

iluvcake · 26/10/2010 21:31

Waaah!

Does anyone have any words to inspire me? I can feel myself slipping out of the zone and back into biffing hell!

I know now that I just CANNOT have sugar in the house-I just eat it. I had another four choc chip biscuits today. Thank God the chocolate coins have gone!!

I also had a packet of munchies on the way home from our day out after stopping at Tesco to buy pumpkins. I swear they were calling to me.

I am having one can of diet coke a day. Is that ok? Or should I just try and knock it on the head totally?

encyclogirl · 26/10/2010 22:19

Cake, ditch the coke. I'm absolutely sure it causes cravings. Try my famous Pu-erh tea. I find it's fabby. Definitely helping my metabolism.

Tell me again how much you have to lose? Not much if memory serves. That's where I was too. Thing is you get away with a stone, a stone and a half, even two stone. But Cake, I'm here to tell you that nothing feels better than ditching that weight.

I peaked at the scales today. (Got my batteries) I now weight 9st 8. 4 pounds to go. 7 weeks ago I was 10 5 heading for 10 6. I've almost lost that bastard stone in only 7 weeks. That's all it took.

You can do it too, but you have to find your mojo, find that switch.

For me it was the simplicity of the tea and not eating after 7. Then I layered on yoga, then I layered on not eating between meals unless fruit, then I layered on not having Subways and packing a healthy lunch of my own.

Come on Cake, you've got this. Pull up your big girl pants and get to it!

encyclogirl · 26/10/2010 22:20

peeked and weigh.. sorry!

justaminute · 26/10/2010 22:21

Iluv, it's so damn hard isn't it? So many times I'm finding myself reaching for the biscuit tin.

I should ban the sweet stuff from the house but with 2 dcs and a dh with more self control than me it's not a reality. I'm also stocked up ready for pesky trick or treaters -the temptation to binge is killing me but remembering the feeling of disgust after my last binge and not kidding myself that I can stop at just one is stopping me....so far.

Other things that are working;

  • I'm carrying a couple of satsumas in my bag when I'm out and about and the sugar starts calling
  • Drinking LOTS of water
  • the occasional Hot ribena (sugar free) the wise ones will probably say that this, like Diet Coke, is the work of the devil but it is fulfilling the sugar need, the liquid fills me up and it keeps me warm Smile
  • remember the mantra....NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING SLIM FEELS.

It was you that got me started on this thread, you must stay with it

justaminute · 26/10/2010 22:26

Cross post with encyclo - told you the wise ones would say ditch the coke!

Fantastic weight loss news encyclo,I love a real inspirational story - can you send some of that determination/ will power my way?

iluvcake · 26/10/2010 23:00

Thank you ladies-you have inspired meSmile.

Will try really hard tomorrow although I'm doing that bloody halloween baking!!

Have got a weigh in with WW tomorrow and last time I went (two weeks ago), I was 10.05st. I was 9.12 and a half on friday. I would like to lose a stone.

Will have a look for some pu-erh tea although I'm not a great tea lover. However, i know coffee plays havoc with your blood sugar levels (another vice!). Have just realised haven't listened to my Paul McKenna CD for about 5 days-could it be that it really does workShock. Trying to find a quiet 25mins during half term is a near impossibility though. I'll have to grit my teeth this week and just try and keep going until next week when I'm in my regular routine.

Thanks again!!

dinkystinky · 27/10/2010 10:34

Cake - step away from the scales. Your weight can vary during the course of the day by up to 2lbs as a result of various things (including water retention) so sneaky peeks (especially when they show a gain so put you in danger of biffing) are counter-productive. Try doing measurements instead and chart how they go down to inspire you. In my case, I'm less focussed on the scales and more focussed on how my trousers feel as I know I have alot of muscle mass that means I'll never be a 8 stoner... I agree with Encyclo - ditch the coke if you can. The Aspartame in it is really not good for you - hot ribena as a treat sounds like a more beneficial drink to go for.
