the only thing I've found to work is to eat less - depending on your activity level take a days calories to be around 1000-1500. the best way to work out what you need to eat is to write a food diary for 7 consecutive days. Weigh yourself at the beinging & then the morning after the 7 days. If you remain the same weight, that intake means you are maintaining your weight. To lose a 1lb of weight, you normally need to reduce your intake by 3500 cals. So if you reduce by 500cals a day this = 1lb a week. Do a bit of exercise 2-3x a week & you can safely lose 2 or so lbs a week.

Base 3 x meals a day on a balance of carbs/fat/protein, so you don't feel deprived.

Cut out junk like diet drinks/diet yogurts in fat all diet foods. Just eat the real thing but LESS of it.

edgetop · 05/09/2005 11:57

hi everyone i,m trying slimfast for breakfast & dinner, then i,m having mince for tea also i,m drinking lots of water, how is everyone else doing?

fishie · 05/09/2005 12:25

we get an organic box which has just arrived, there is a savoy cabbage in it. what on earth can i do with that in boiling hot weather? also got really solid heavy wholemeal bread, i'm convinced that is good slimming food as 1 slice is very satisfying. we are redoing kitchen, there is just a cooker standing in middle of hideously dusty room, no sink or anything, so can't cook anything elaborate. horrible but essential before baby starts crawling / eating.

dabihp · 05/09/2005 13:46

fishie you could make a spag bol and slice the cabbage up really tiny into the sauce.. good way to get the vitamins without the taste!

had slight relapse yesterday with soem homemade apple pi, but back to healthy eating today....

fishie · 05/09/2005 13:58

fishie · 05/09/2005 14:00

oops sorry, x posting. dp doesn't eat meat except chicken, so spag bol not worth making for one. he can have the bloody cabbage.

dabihp · 05/09/2005 15:19

lol, why not make sapg bol with chicken? just chop it in to chunks...

Or chicken and cabbage stir fry...

well done the food shop and happy to tell you that there is not a veggie left in tesco as i have them all but i think the large box of wine might let me down hows everyone feeling its quite hard to keep motivated but im trying v hard

fishie · 05/09/2005 17:16

i think it's hard at the beginning when nothing is happening. once we start to see results it'll be easier to be motivated, until get bored of course

edgetop · 07/09/2005 10:06

EvesBigFatMama · 07/09/2005 11:12

im having a fair week..have been getting weighed each morning (cos im naughty like that)...up to now(and will post weekly weight here with you all in morn, but 'my'weigh in will be friday)i have lost 2lb 3/4( my new all singing and dancing scales insulted me further by informing me i was 16st 13lb 3/4!!..

any way, showing 16st 11lb this morning..this is what i started on earlier in the year

fishie · 07/09/2005 11:15

gi diety books have arrived. apparently am eating the right things but about 3x too much of them! i find it really hard to stop at the end of dinner - last night i had a main course, then some stewed fruit, then 3 oatcakes with (low fat!) cheese, then a bit of chocolate. oh dear. any tips to avoid this?

sweetbean · 07/09/2005 11:43

Hi everyone
I can't beleve that its been a week and that we have to weigh in tommorow i don't think that i have lost anything i don't feel like i have anyway, even thought i have had no bread, choclate, dairy products, red meat and ive been driknking loads of fennel tea (good for weight loss says Gillian Mc Keith)but we shall see as long as ive just stayed the same if nothing else! whats everyone doing for exercise im rubbish and only walk about 1hr twice a week

EvesBigFatMama · 07/09/2005 13:33

well ive been walking more but nothing else.

went to check out new nursery for dd yeasterday, which was about 45 mins walk and that was in blistering heat too..so hope its done me some good!
seeing as though im crap at extercising, i gonna step up my walking for now and maybe wipe the cobwebs off the excersize bike in the garage!

p.s
got two g.i books now, second one i got from library is soo much better and much easier to understand!

fishie · 07/09/2005 14:21

i've been swimming twice and for a long walk yesterday. but basically have spent entire week on sofa breastfeeding apart from little jaunts to shops.

ebfm which books have you got? i have anthony worrall thomson and louise blaire. like the look of awt best, although haven't cooked from either yet - will try something tonight.

dabihp · 07/09/2005 18:44

hmmm, ate some apple pie (homemade) and a choccie biscuit or two.. but dint have lunch so figure calories wise it evens it out...

As for exercise, not alot had csection 14 wks ago, so am still not 100% - walkign to nursery, playgroup etc, but nothing strenuos, gonna give myself till after xmas b4 i start workign out properly, think i need that long to heal...
