Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

So it was my first weigh in this morning. 2nd jab tonight...

Height: 5' 4
SW: 14 st 4lb
CW: 13st 12lb

So - 6lb, which is plenty! I don't actually want to drop too far too quickly as I want it to be a slow and steady pace as I feel that will help when I stop (I don't want to be on it long term if I can help it). I also want to learn new habits / strategies for when I get hungry (or hangry as my partner often says!) I don't have a goal weight really - I will be happy when all the menopause weight from around my tummy is gone!
The first couple of days I struggled to eat at all which will account for some of it, but by yesterday I was feeling hungry again, so we'll see what happens after jab 2!

Biosblbay · 07/08/2026 12:02

Hi all, quick question… I took my first jab Tuesday evening 2.5mg, I haven’t had a glass of wine since Monday! That is very good going for me considering I used to have 1-2 glasses every night, so Mounjaro has definitely made me cut back. I haven’t fancied it plus also the worry of mixing the two.

I am out this evening, nothing crazy but was just wondering if a glass or two of wine is safe to consume while on mounjaro, especially so soon on.

Has anyone had an alcoholic drink and been ok?

WombatCowgirl · 07/08/2026 12:03

Brilliant loss @PrimalScreaming really well done! I've only dreamed of being where you already are on the scale, but I'm with you about the menopause weight sadly, it's like I'm wearing a rubber ring made of myself!

PrimalScreaming · 07/08/2026 12:09

I know the feeling @WombatCowgirl Went through menopause 4 years ago and feel like I've completely changed shape! My legs have got thinner (through lack of muscle - not 'good thinner', so I will try and do what I can to reverse that now!!) and tummy like a beach ball! And they say that's the worst place to hold weight for your health.

weightlossmed · 07/08/2026 13:06

I'm due to start Mounjaro today I last took it 2 years ago for a few months but had to come off it due to vomiting. In retrospect, I went up to 5 mg too quickly and I was still eating my normal unhealthy meals (just in smaller portions), which wouldn't have helped. I was considering doing half a dose for the first week or two but not sure. I also feel like I'm coming down with a virus today (😫) with body aches and light-headedness so now I'm wondering if I should delay by a few days...

Edited

I had one G&T last night and didn’t feel great whilst drinking but I drank loads of water afterwards and was then absolutely fine

ReneBallard · 07/08/2026 16:30

@PrimalScreaming thats an amazing loss - you must be really chuffed!

second jab tonight but first weigh in tomorrow morning. Eeek

MadameMacaron · 07/08/2026 18:43

So, had my first weigh in and lost 3lbs. I was a bit disappointed as I was convinced I would lose more. Oh well, hopefully next week!

On a more positive note, I have just bought Protein in 15, the Joe Wicks cookbook. It is on offer on Amazon, if anyone else is curious. Need inspiration as my app tells me that I am not eating enough protein or fibre.

We’ve made the frickin awesome chicken burger and chicken and tabbouleh salad from there this week and both were really good (esp the burger) so would totally recommend.

i don’t think he says how many calories are in his recipes but does set out the protein and I still feel like I’m having nice food with his recipies.

3lb is still good. Slow and steady and making habits that are sustainable

WombatCowgirl · 07/08/2026 20:17

@ReneBallard I've just had a glass of wine 🍷 with my son and it tasted really strong like medicine and has made me so sleepy! I am pleased I tried though, now I know I don't need it!

ReneBallard · 07/08/2026 20:47

Just did second jab and realised I only did 2cm from bellybutton rather than 5 so panic. Google says it’s ok but gah, why don’t I know distances?! I’ll get out a bloody ruler next time!

Mamafromthebeach · 07/08/2026 22:02

@PrimalScreaming 6 pounds is awesome - great start! @MadameMacaron 3 pounds also fabulous. Don’t be disappointed it will add up over time.

Saturday morning here - my Friday was not great. Impromptu pizza lunch at work yesterday, I was in an all day meeting which I knew was catered but usually there are healthy options but they decided to “treat”’us with pizza. I was hungry when it arrived so had 3 slices 😩. I had a small dinner (chicken stir fry)!when I got home but was annoyed that I had wasted calories earlier on not great food. Then last night for dinner dh had opened wine so I had not one but 2 glasses. Anyway surprisingly I feel fine today and slept ok. Needless to say I am not expecting much movement on scales tomorrow. Jab day tomorrow and as you probably all have guessed - I am not feeling much suppression! Hopefully I can keep busy today and keep things steady.

I will carry on!

purplepie1 · 08/08/2026 07:22

2nd dose of 2.5mg was yesterday morning. I slept a little better but have woken with a sore head this morning. This was the same last week.

Not sure about appetite suppressant as I ate small meals yesterday. Never felt full but didn’t really get hungry late on last night. Still to have breakfast but a little hungry now.

KindlySurfiingPlatypus · 08/08/2026 08:00

Slightly late-joiner to this thread, I kept meaning to find it but got distracted.

I had my 2nd Wegovy jab last night. I can't say I noticed much effect from the first one a week ago - neither any side effects nor any significant reduction in appetite. But I have read that the effect builds up because the previous week's jab is still about 50% active after a week. Anyway I had a horrible night of insomnia and feeling nauseous so perhaps that means it's working a bit more fiercely now.

I've been having support to reset my food expectations in advance of starting the meds, highlighting protien-first.

My typical day so far (unaffected by meds) is:

Breakfast - slice of wholemeal toast, portion of spinach with either mushrooms or other veg as available, 50g smoked fish - herring is cheapest but full of bones, mackerel is easiest, salmon for a treat occasionally, and a poached egg.

Lunch - big salad with a 100g piece of either chicken or fish. No accompanying bread.

Midafternoon Snack if needed - carrots and houmous

Dinner - various, but generally containing 100g meat, 200g mixed vegetables of different kinds, 80g of a carb

Honestly - not been sticking to this perfectly and I do occasionally shovel in unplanned additional snacks, sometimes relatively healthy (a small number of nuts, a couple of dried apricots) sometimes really not (a triple chocolate cookie, a slice of white bread & butter) - BUT I have nevertheless been losing weight with this food intake, albeit very slowly, and am hoping/especting that with the meds I will start finding it easier to not have the extra unplanned snacks and things will speed up.

Weigh Day for me and 18 lbs lost in Week 1- I'm over the moon and had to get on and off the scales 3 times til I could trust it ! Presumably because my starting weight is so high, but it's still a boost.
SW 20 stone 6 lbs
CW 19 stone 2lbs
GW 10 stone TBC

Welcome @KindlySurfiingPlatypus! Thanks for sharing your food log - it’s given me some ideas. That’s great you’ve been losing before starting the meds.

18 pounds!!! Whoa that is incredible ! 🎉

WombatCowgirl · 08/08/2026 09:45

Thanks @MadameMacaron @Mamafromthebeach @purplepie1 a lot is water (heart problems) as my legs and ankles look like legs now rather than parsnips!

ReneBallard · 08/08/2026 09:51

@WombatCowgirl bloody hell!!! Well done!!

CatMonj · 08/08/2026 09:55

Weigh day for me and although I took a couple of golden doses of my bfs 7.5mg jab previously (was sick as a dog), last night was my first 2.5mg dose using my own newly purchased pen:

BMI - 30
Jab 1 (7.5mg) - 14st 6lbs
Jab 2 (7.5mg) - 14st 1lb
Jab 3 (7.5mg - half dose) - 13st 11lbs
Jab 4 (2.5mg) - 13 st 10lbs

Doesn't seem like that big a loss over 4 weeks? I'm intermittent fasting so eating at 1pm - berries and 0% greek yoghurt, then a small portion of dinner usually something like steak and broccoli - i try to do low carb. Am I not eating enough or does this sound ok?

ReneBallard · 08/08/2026 09:56

First weigh in for me this morning and have lost 3.8lbs week one. Did second jab last night. Happy with this as thought it might be less.

Will start to add in exercise this week. Happy weekend and happy slimming all!

SW 162.6lb
CW 158.8lb
GW 126-135lb

PrimalScreaming · 08/08/2026 10:27

Wow! @WombatCowgirlthat's just huge! Congratulations! What an incentive going forward!

Also Congratulations @ReneBallardthat's a big loss in a week. Going forward I'm hoping for 2-3lb per week as I think that's sustainable while also managing nutrition and muscle preservation.

Lots of us on to 2nd jabs now... be interesting to see how this week pans out!

BeverleyMakka · 08/08/2026 12:49

2nd jab last night, woke up in the night with a bad headache but paracetamol sorted that out ( I seem to recall having a bad headache the day after 1st jab too)
only lost 2lb so far but it’s a start…
I’ve been disappointed that I’ve still got food noise however I made breakfast earlier (yogurt and granola) then just had to put some washing on so I put it in the fridge for a minute. I’ve just gone to make lunch and the breakfast is still there so I totally forgot about it 🤣 so maybe I am getting some suppression after all!🤞
