Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

Hi everyone. Happy Monday!

@Quink how are you feeling after your first 5mg jab? I had mine yesterday mid-morning. Today has been like a whole different level for me. I’m feeling proper suppression- I really had to make myself eat my breakfast this morning, which is not like me. I had a very simple protein loaded lunch (bone broth, 2 light babybels, a strip of Parma ham and my salad had a trip to the fridge at work then home again without being touched. I feel hungry now, and I’m having a proper dinner. My calories for today will be around 1600 and my watch says I’ve burned 2700 already.

@RemakeRemodel i felt the same as you mostly, on 2.5. I hope the 5mg works for you. What side effects did your husband get?

i jabbed at about 8am and feel completely normal since. Sounds like tomorrow might be the test 😬. Definitely hoping for more suppression and love the idea of taking my salad to work and then home again!

Yes, patient leaflet says discard 30 days after opening. You can still do 5 doses within that, if you think about it (days 0, 7, 14, 21, 28). Many patients choose to use a pen for longer than that. At their own risk, of course.

Some providers will allow you to stretch it longer than 4 weeks, or pause. I guess you would have to experiment with what your provider will allow. Some people allow themselves to use up a stock, and then use it up when titrating down before stopping.

It makes sense. Thanks for explaining.

TinDogTavern · 08/09/2026 10:17

I’m speaking to the pharmacist today about my next dose. I’m due to do jab 4 of first pen on Thursday. If I’m being honest I do still have some suppression on 2.5 and I’m still losing.

in a perfect world I’d like to do two more weeks after the end of this pen at 2.5 then go up to 5mg, not least as I’m going away for a few days a couple of days after jab 5 and I don’t want to risk side effects and I would like to have a bit of an appetite on holiday.

So I might do counting clicks for the first two weeks of 5mg and then up it. Does that make sense?

MiaN · 08/09/2026 10:22

@TinDogTavern it does make sense, that's what I may do in the end too. I am keeping the medicine in the fridge, even though they say it's ok once you start using. this is to make most of it

I'm tired today. Still PMSing, and a consistent calorie deficit will do that. To be fair, if I wasn't on the jabs I'd probably be way more tired. I'm grateful I've got flexibility with work and can go into the office on the days that suit me. It's the last day of my 4th week, so one month done.

I can totally relate to not being patient with it now that it finally feels like a good outcome is actually possible. I've lost 10kg three different times over the last three years, and every time I'd start exercising I'd get those massive hunger spikes, start overeating, and end up completely drained. So being able to keep up my walks, do some exercise, and stay in a calorie deficit at the same time feels amazing.

It's also hitting me how many clothes I own that I absolutely hate. I've got this mix of bigger and smaller sizes, and I just feel frumpy right now. It'll probably take me over a year to get to a weight where I feel healthy and happy. I don't want to spend loads on clothes I'll shrink out of, but I also don't want to feel frumpy for the next year.

I keep telling myself I'd be happy with 1lb a week because that's the sensible, reasonable part of my brain talking... but if I'm honest? I'd love 3lbs a week. 😂 I'd happily settle for 2. I've got plenty to lose.

Anyway, PMS is definitely messing with my head today, so that's my little rant. Don't mind me. I know you can relate. ❤️

I did really like the Weightless book. I think I might give it another read because I rushed through it the first time. Lana Muhlstein (2B Mindset) is doing a 3-week GLP nutrition training, so I'll share the main takeaways here. I somehow ended up signing up for her membership for a year. I won't be renewing—I like her book a lot, but I don't really use the app. Hopefully this 3-week training gives me something for the money I already paid!

Have a super healthy and side effects free day all!

MiaN · 08/09/2026 10:29

I am nervous about my decision to stick with the 2.5, but it’s last day of week 4 and my appetite is healthy. I get hungry, I am satisfied eating healthy meals, I can stick to my calories and type of food plan and I can have healthy deficit. I need more willpower than week 1 but that could be PMS too and it’s very manageable. Having the 5 pen, means I could go up after my holiday as I don’t want to increase before that. In case there are side effects. Part of me wants to go up higher in hope for better and quicker results but eating less then I do now will mean I will be even more tired and I don't want that.

So I feel the right decision is to continue as I am.

Sounds like you and I are in the same place @MiaNalthough I am mercifully past the PMS days. I’ll see what the pharmacist says and unless she’s very anti then I’ll go up to 5mg and split the first dose. And one of you lovely lot will have to explain counting clicks to me 🙂

Then I’ll have 3 weeks at 5mg before I go on a beach holiday and hopefully the loss will be pretty noticeable by then.

You've given it a lot of thought, so stick with the 2.5. Plus, I understand you wanting to enjoy your holiday.

That was one of the reasons I stayed on 0.25 (2.5). I had a weeks holiday planned, and I wanted to be able to enjoy it. And enjoy it I did 😄

I have a couple of weeks left of the lowest dose, then I am moving up. I stayed on it for two months, and I'm glad I did as I got to enjoy my holiday, but the appetite suppression for me has left the building, and I haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks now. After 6.5 weeks, I am 9Ib down.

I have a week in Dublin planned in about 7 weeks time, so I hope that I can start taking the higher dose (0.5), get through any side effects, and then 'fingers crossed' stay on that dose.

My worry is the appetite suppression. I had great suppression through month one of the lowest dose, then it came back. I worry that it will happen when I move up a dose too ... and come back, so up and up and up I go. I really want to stay at a lower dose if possible, for both cost and ease of coming off it when I do eventually reach my target weight.

MiaN · 08/09/2026 11:06

@Belladog1 I am trying to be patient and open minded and get the timing right too. I don't want to hold off increasing as I have read first 12 weeks, and then even 3 to 6 months is still golden period and I want to make most of that. But just as you I don't want to go up too early either. And I am planner in nature, so wait and see isn't my thing. I want to know how it will be!

I have read apart form the first dose, they level off in about 3 months. It's not a rule - but it is somewhat common experience. I have a friend who has been on it for year and that was her experience too

TinDogTavern · 08/09/2026 11:13

I have NO idea what is going on with the multiple postings!!! Sorry.

Cheesecake53 · 08/09/2026 11:50

@MiaN what means "golden period"?
