Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

Did jab 2 on Monday night and today has felt awful! I woke up with Sulphur burps and have eaten hardly anything but just feel bloated, burping, horrible taste in my mouth and exhausted!

The kids go back to school tomorrow so I really wanted a special day with them today and feel like I've ruined it by feeling so poorly and all self inflicted of course! I'm really hoping week 3 is better.

they are horrible.

what did you eat since the 2nd jab?

I found that anything that is very greasy, eggs and broccoli give me sulphur burps.

you’ll start to feel better soon.

Mamatriesmounjaro · 02/09/2026 20:09

Thank you

The only fatty thing I've had is last night j felt really hungry around 10pm and I had some baba ganoush (sp?!) with a few breadsticks, maybe 3 or 4 and then woke up feeling like this.

I had some fruit at breakfast, then a piece of sourdough at lunch with a small amount of humous and then tonight I ate some plain tofu, two new potatoes and a peppermint tea.

I'm hoping it passes soon 🤞

Anseranser · 02/09/2026 20:25

Hugs to everyone suffering with side effects ❤️

I'm definitely feeling like I'm getting suppression now - did jab 2 yesterday, and today has been a busy day out with tradestand food trucks as lunch, and it's still been easy to eat relatively little. Stopping before I've finished the meal is something quite unusual for me. My daughter offered me a piece of her chocolate this evening too, and although my head says "ooo, delicious", my heart is saying "no thank you, maybe later". It's so much easier that way round.

Belladog1 · 02/09/2026 21:54

I really really wish I hadn't stayed at 0.25 for the second month as my appetite suppression has left the building. I've eaten so much today and I feel guilty as I've done so well up to now. I've eaten a pasta pot for lunch which was a mahoosive 450 calories. A giant meat feast pizza for dinner and ice cream.

Normally I'm around 1300 calories a day, whereas today you could double that easily!

Grrrrrr. Really disappointed in myself

WombatCowgirl · 02/09/2026 21:59

Don't be disappointed in yourself, you haven't failed it's just your dosage needs adjusting. If your inhaler doesn't stop you wheezing you don't feel guilty, you just seek different treatment. Tomorrow is a fresh start. I bet you haven't eaten much over your TDEE! It would have to be a surplus 3500 calories to put a pound on I believe.

MiaN · 03/09/2026 06:35

double that would still be maintenance for me and one day won't break you. It's an oportunity to brush yourself off (as without a doubt all of us will have to do) and try again. 450cal is not massive!

It's my PMS week, and it was handy on day one as my starting weight was higher then it should and week 1 loss felt great. But in reality I do go up pound or two the days before my period so I need to manage my mindset around this this week. I can't believe it's 4th week already

My dog day 1 week 1 - what is she doing, why is she playing music and lifting things, it's time to walk? With most judgemental face
My dog day 22 week 4 - oh music is on, walkies are straight after - looking me with love and appreciation :)

she is too cute, and great help with my step goals!

Biosblbay · 03/09/2026 07:40

I am on my second month of MJ, done my 5th jab Tuesday evening (first jab of a new pen). I have stayed on the 2.5 dose so I haven’t even increased but my god the nausea, headache, heart burn and diarrhea/ stomach pains aren’t great today at all! Worst I’ve felt since I’ve started it. Is there any reason as to why the effects would be worse a month later rather than when I first started? Has anyone else experienced this?

MiaN · 03/09/2026 08:24

I am burping more but I have not had the eggy burbs. I have been on Ozempic before and they were really awful. I had a lot of side effects with it and stress in work so I had to stop eventually

However due to my experience with Ozempic and I don't think I helped myself at the time this time around i eat very healthy, plain food and olive oil on veggies or fish seem to be ok but I do not eat much fat outside that. I had salad with very creamy dressing and too much feta and felt off after. Actually I make savory baked oats at home and they have little feta and no issues with that but it's small quantity. Not sure if that helps or not, maybe just monjaro suit me better. But 3 full weeks in so far I have not had them!

Yes - the half life is 5 days, so when you inject again after 7 days, some of the first dose is still in your system. The peak level after injecting is higher each time, until about the 4th week. After that you reach a steady state where the peak after injecting is the same each time as long as you stay on the same dose.

At the same time, the body is adjusting to the medication so side effects should become less severe. However people vary in how quickly and to what extent that happens. In an ideal world your body’s adjustment will run alongside or ahead of the increase in the peak level, so side effects don’t actually get any worse unless you increase the dose. But maybe you’re unlucky on that score.

Im also wondering whether the half life is the same in everyone or also varies between people.

FeelingALittleStrangeToday · 03/09/2026 10:30

@Biosblbay @Mamatriesmounjaro how are you feeling today?
I'm halving my dose this week and hoping some suppression stays. 2 days off work with diarrhoea which I cannot afford to happen again.
@Belladog1 1 day will not undo all the good you've done so far. You know what food works. Try your best and up your dose when you can.

Belladog1 · 03/09/2026 10:57

Thanks everyone for the mentions.

I think it's because I haven't lost any weight in the last 2 weeks since i have been on month two of 0.25, so I was feeling demoralised. I was doing well in the first month and then .... nothing. However, I did have a week off work and I did eat a lot more, and I didn't gain anything, so that has to be positive.

But I did a small Waitrose delivery and it was all good stuff. Fruit, chicken, salad etc ..... but somehow a family sized meat feast pizza made it onto the shopping list 🤔My partner even said 'how do you accidentally order pizza'? But what does he know 😉

My official weigh in is Monday, but I can't resist having a cheeky look at the scales every day. My new pen of 0.5 is ordered, so I am definitely moving up next month. Hopefully I can stay at 0.5 as the cost is getting higher.

Mamatriesmounjaro · 03/09/2026 11:14

Feeling much better today thank you @FeelingALittleStrangeToday

Stomach pain has gone and no more eggy burps thank god! I've had porridge with berries and soy milk today which is my usual breakfast and a ginger tea. I feel hungry today though - I wonder if it's because I couldn't eat hardly at all yesterday!

I feel a bit scared to eat though!!

That is great news. I know what you mean about eating. Those burps are horrible. My husband asked what the smell was. 😆
That sounds like a lovely breakfast.
Rice and quorn last night settled really well. Everyone's suggestions of bland food definitely feels like the right way to go. Good luck!

PuzzledObserver · 03/09/2026 13:38

@Belladog1 I use a website called Trendweight.com which does a moving average of daily weigh-ins, smoothing out the daily fluctuations to reveal the underlying trends. Makes me feel better when the raw scale weight goes up! It’s dead easy for me because I have a WiFi enabled scale which uploads automatically, but I think you can also add data manually.

@Mamatriesmounjaro and anyone suffering from sulphur burps - I consider myself lucky I haven’t suffered from those (yet!), especially since I do eat a fairly high fat diet. I’ve also just had a 3-egg omelette for my lunch, so we’ll see how that goes.

Anyhow, I’ll attach screenshots of what AI told me about them:

Mamatriesmounjaro · 03/09/2026 13:49

That's really interesting @PuzzledObserver thank you for sharing. I'm vegan, so don't eat eggs/ red meat or anything super high fat really and cut out fizzy drinks a year ago when I was diagnosed with fatty liver.

But I do eat a lot of cruciferous veg, onions, garlic and think I triggered these with my 10pm Baba ghanoush and breadsticks!

Just braved lunch - had some vegan salmon, beetroot, bistro salad leaves, new potatoes (cooked with a spray of avocado oil) and a tablespoon of dressing. I'm praying this stays comfortable!!

Have also had two litres of my electrolytes, an oat milk coffee and a ginger tea.

Would love to hear what you guys are managing to eat without side effects!

PuzzledObserver · 03/09/2026 13:58

Here are some recent meals from me

Tuesday evening - home made chilli con carne served with cauliflower rice fried in coconut oil, a whole smashed avocado and cheddar cheese, followed by by mixed berries with full fat Greek yogurt.

Yesterday evening. Curry meal, including masala dosa, butter chicken, a little bit of rice and half a nan bread

Lunch 3 egg omelette with 120g ham, cheddar cheese and fried tomatoes, followed by chia seed “goo” with Greek yogurt, cinnamon and a few pumpkin seeds and walnuts.

So - not low fat, adequate rather than massively high protein, and not short of some of the particular foods they mention as potentially problematic. Looking at the AI again, it shows that sulphur burps are only reported by a small proportion of people. So I don’t think it’s what I’m what I’m particularly, more that I’m in the group who don’t get this side effect.

Belladog1 · 03/09/2026 14:04

I'm currently another who hasn't had any side effects, and I can eat literally anything without any issues. I've had a chicken tikka massala, fish and chips, ice cream, copious amounts of stilton and brie plus my family sized meat feast pizza 🙈

But maybe I will get side effects when I go up in dose?

My boss had terrible sulphur burps and diarrhoea when he tried it. He would wake every night at 3am and spend the rest of the night on the loo. After 6 weeks he quit as he couldn't take it anymore. His burps would clear the room. He told me he was stood in an outside queue for a museum, and he belched and people in the queue were complaining about the smell.

I hope everyone with side effects feel better soon.

TinDogTavern · 03/09/2026 14:24

I’m afraid I’m one of those annoying people who has had next to no side effects. Bit of an upset stomach for 36 hours after jab but that’s about it.

I am eating, broadly speaking, a scaled down version of my normal diet, only upping the protein and reducing the fat. But the portions are really small - I’m doing small intake when I feel hungry rather than sticking to “mealtimes” (with the exception of breakfast, which I do find I need for energy to start the day).

I’ve even risked a bit of spicy food and it was fine, but again small quantities.

3rd 2.5 jab tonight, 8lb down in two weeks.

Mamatriesmounjaro · 03/09/2026 16:36

@TinDogTavern this is what I was really hoping for and had last week, just eating what I like but much less of it with no side effects! Apparently 80% of people don't get side effects so it seems like I'm in the minority! I'm going to stick at it for two months as apparently most people's side effects calm down by then and only come back when you go up a dose?

I'm also on omeprazole which slows gastric mobility so I'm wondering whether the combination of the two is ramping up my symptoms.

The scale hasn't moved at all this week so far but I have until Monday for weigh day so fingers crossed 🤞

Me too - I'm eating the same as usual, just smaller portions and no snacking. My digestive system can be a bit grumpy so I'm wary of changing too much at once. So far I've got away camembert with crackers one day, and paneer curry another, so that's encouraging. I'm not touching anything with a creamy sauce though, cream is a flashpoint for my stomach at the best of times.

@Mamatriesmounjaro somewhere in the reams of documentation I got with my pen was the advice that eating can help with nausea. It sounds so counterintuitive, and I fully understand the fear! Maybe small and unchallenging meals. Marmite on toast, and apples are what I choose to nibble when I'm not feeling great but know I need food.

MiaN · 03/09/2026 18:45

Well Karma is karming :). After me saying no side effects, maybe because I eat healthy on day 22 for first time every my stomach is so bloated and feels very full. I have eating small amount, so it's not that. It's kind of funny it is just few hours later!

had very light dinner and drinking mug of warm tea to try to make myself feel bit more settled.

Don't think I've put anything on this thread since I joined in week 2. Now in week 5 on Wegovy and on the 5mg pen but for my week 5 dose I didn't go all the way to doubling in one go, I wanted to elevate the dose more slowly. Definitely noticing a bit more appetite suppression this week, I am ok on slightly smaller meals than I used to have. Weight is coming off slowly but steadily, about 1kg per week which I am happy with, I have been told that the slower it comes off, the better it stays off. I'm not doing brilliantly at keeping up the exercise, but doing my best.

I've been doing well with salady lunches over the past 5 weeks, with a bowl of salad veg topped with a portion of chicken or fish. Not sure what to switch to when cold wintery weather makes salads feel wrong and I'll be wanting something more comforting, all my "normal" winter lunches are way too carby compared to the salady things. Any ideas? I work from home so can be quite flexible, but can't spend too much time on meal prep during the work day.

MiaN · 03/09/2026 20:39

warm vegetable soup instead of the salad or cooked veggies
