@Kabloom I'm late 50s and have been on MJ for a year, moving up v slowly (I'm just now on 10 mg). I started at nearly 22 stone and have lost 4.5 stone, so have a long way to go.
The reason I started was that I was always tired and had knee and back problems, which led to sleep problems, which then made everything (mental health, weight, back problems) worse. I did a VLCD before the pandemic and lost a lot, but had gall bladder issues from losing too quickly, had to get a removal, and then regained everything during the pandemic. I also learned from the VLCD that I can get a bit obsessive about calorie counting and weighing. So I went into this determined to go low and very slow, minimising calorie counting and tracking, in hopes that I would then keep the loss sustainable and mentally healthy for me. Ideally I'd like to lose 2 more stone over the next year or so, but am pretty happy with where I've gotten so far.
While I'm not losing as quickly or as much as most people here, it's already made an enormous difference to my health: back pain gone, knee pain greatly reduced, sleeping better, able to exercise regularly, and no longer exhausted all the time. I've also noticed a difference in my skin, probably also from eating and sleeping better. Changing size in clothing is a nice bonus, but the reduced pain and greatly improved mobility is the real benefit for me, especially as I approach 60. Many of my friends in their 70s are having real difficulty with mobility and pain, so I want to postpone that as long as possible.
