Anyone on here who has obtained MJ by lying about their already healthy weight etc? I’m v curious to know your experience, have you only needed the lower doses, did you stay on it for maintenance etc etc

If you're a healthy weight, why on earth do you need Mounjaro?

People at a healthy weight who want to lose more weight. But this isn’t what my question is about.

Yes me. Am 5.5ft, was 9 stone and wanted to lose a stone to get into my size 8 clothes. Had been trying for nearly a year but struggled. Started on 2.5 and it took 2 months. I came off it by extending the dose once by a few days and then just stopping.

cupfinalchaos · 16/06/2026 17:25

Had I taken any higher dose I would have disappeared completely!

Namechangee11 · 16/06/2026 17:25

But why would anyone take a drug outside of its stated purposes? That's bonkers... These are really serious drugs and are contraindicated for normal BMIs without diabetes etc being an issue. They aren't a cheat code? And when would one stop taking it?

Did you have to go up to 5mg or did you do 2 months on 2.5? Have you kept the weight off since coming off?

i did 2 months on 2.5. It had such a huge effect on me that there’s no way I could’ve had a higher dose. I did put on a few pounds a few months after I came off so I did another 2 weeks on 2.5- that’s all it took.

cupfinalchaos · 16/06/2026 17:33

I e probably lost too much but going on a cruise so I’m sure that’ll solve the problem!

Great to hear, I’m hoping I can do 2 months on 2.5 to lose around a stone. Having a BA so will have to come off for a month, hope I can maintain too!

Been on it at 5mg weekly (well 7-10 days as I forget) since I reached my target 18m+ ago and am using it to maintain. I lost 6.5stones over 18m so have been on it for just over 3 years (well, Ozempic for first 6m until supplies stalled). It balances my sugar levels, reduces ADHD symptoms and seems to prevent migraines as a result. Have regular blood tests for thyroid issues so have no concerns about remaining on it.

Whenisitsummer · 16/06/2026 17:47

No I haven't but I think this is something that will become more common.

Lots of people who are a healthy BMI want to drop a stone for a wedding/ holiday etc etc. MJ makes weight loss easy to achieve for the majority.
A relative ( who was obese ) never got above a 5mg dose and has lost almost 4 stone. Doesn't want to remain on the drug for life so has gone down to 2.5mg and aiming to stop in a few months. I think a combination of your starting weight, how your body reacts etc will be a factor in the dose you need.

PinotPony · 16/06/2026 18:08

I started mounjaro 8 weeks ago when my BMI was 28. Got it privately via MedExpress.

I’ve stayed on 2.5mg even though they offered me 5mg as I found it was suppressing my appetite enough to reduce portion size and snacking whilst still allowing me to fuel for training.

I’ve lost 6kg so very slow and steady. I’m also training so will be gaining muscle which the scales don’t reflect. I intend to stay on it for another couple of months to get another 6kg off (BMI 23).

I expect to gain a few pounds when I come off it but am confident that I know how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep at an optimal weight.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 16/06/2026 18:13

I was very nearly at a BMI of 30 so exaggerated slightly to get a private prescription. Have lost 2st since Jan never above 5mg. Am tapering down now and hoping to maintain on 2.5 but we will see. It's an amazing drug.

PerditaCampbellBlack · 16/06/2026 18:22

I lost just over a stone which I just hadn't been able to shift whatever I did. Menopause just seemed to change my metabolism. I was on 2.5mg for three months. I'm now 8 stone.

I've learnt that it's amazing how little food you actually need when you remove the boredom eating and food noise.

Hardly. They are hormones.
People are entitled to make their own decisions. If it makes them happy, then why is that a problem?

jellybuns · 16/06/2026 18:34

I’ve lost 20lb in 3 months. Top of healthy BMI to now being in the middle.

I’ve mostly stayed on 2.5mg, I did go up to 3.75 for a few weeks and a couple at 5mg when getting impatient for a holiday. SE were too much so I went back to 2.5mg.

I’m choosing to stay on it for now, still want to lose a little more but even when I get to where I want I like the way it makes me feel in lots of ways (so will stretch doses or microdose when I want to keep weight static). Only ever seem to see good news stories so no reason for me to be scared off yet!

I’m the same re how it makes me feel. The absence of ‘food stuff’ in my head is amazing. I would pay to stay on this for that alone, even if I didn’t lose a single pound

As much as I’m not supportive of lying that’s simply not true they are not remotely contraindicated, you can’t make stuff up and post it.

Wasn’t bonkers at all for me as only had to take the lowest dose for a few weeks then finished. I doubt it would have done me much damage in that short space of time. I can now maintain my weight easily.

TheBlueDeer · 16/06/2026 22:38

No, they aren't contraindicated for healthy BMIs. The people who have lost weight using them who don't have any other health conditions are allowed to use them for maintenance for example.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 16/06/2026 22:50

I think people are referring to the MHRA licence approval which has a starting criteria of BMI 27 for certain ethnicities or for people who have weight related health conditions, or a BMI 30. What BMI you are allowed to continue to use them at is down to each individual prescribers interpretation of a healthy weight range. That’s not the same as the starting criteria.

Anyone prescribing to someone with a starting BMI under 27 without any additional weight related health conditions is doing so off licence. Those prescribers should be clear to patients that there is not sufficient evidence of health benefits in comparison to the actual risks of side effects and adverse reactions.

TheBlueDeer · 16/06/2026 22:51

It's still not contraindicated or they wouldn't permit the use for maintenance. Or perhaps people don't understand what contraindicated really means, which is fine but still not true

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 16/06/2026 22:53

That's what I was saying, clearly very badly, that people are misusing the term “contraindicated” when what they mean is not licensed.

In the uk? How did you get it, it can't have been a video call surely, you can't have passed for overweight at a size 10?

mumandmumber · 16/06/2026 23:01

This might sound a bit dim.. but I always hear this term ‘food noise’ since the emergencd of GLPs. Would love to hear different experiences/explanations of what that means for them.
I consider myself a foodie, I think about
food a lot, and I work in a food
related area.. but I am curious what is meant by food noise for those it is a huge problem
for.
