How are you all planning on surviving pancake day?

I totally forgot - I'd already had my breakfast when DD came down asking for pancakes! I've got a few leftover from the pile I made her, so maybe I'll have one as a treaty snack later if I fancy it.

HollywoodTease · 17/02/2026 11:56

Weekly check-in

SW 99.8kg
CW 94.95kg
1st GW 90kg
Loss so far 4.85kg

2.2 kg since last Thursday, which is my best loss to date. It's also the only time where I haven't been out or away for part of the time so havent had a drink. Hmm, maybe sobriety isn't the only advantage to not having alcohol? 6 weeks now til my next planned trip, I think I'll pass on the wine/rum and see what happens.

In old money thats 10.5 lbs in my first 4 weeks, which is actually a bit better than I thought I was doing.

Small wins x2 - I have lost my first half stone, and I am now under 15 stone for the first time in years. Go Me!

Just done my first 5mg MJ jab, let's see how that goes.....

CatNoBag · 17/02/2026 12:10

@HollywoodTease - my thinking is: my aim is to survive on less calories whilst still getting as much nutrition as I need. If I have a glass of wine, I have to take those calories out of the equation somewhere else and it isn't giving my body anything it needs in return. I rarely drink anyway, so it isn't such a big thing for me to give it up for the time being, the only thing that's challenging is other people's expectations and feeling like I have to apologise for not drinking as social events. I'm going for the same thinking with cake & chocolate. Everything I ingest needs to have a purpose because I've got a limit on how much I'm eating. I think the WLI are helping me stay steady on this mindset, whereas I'd normally have told myself I deserve to treat myself to a lovely pastry from the bakery on the weekend by now!

FrothyCothy · 17/02/2026 13:00

God the scale fluctuations really mess with your head don’t they. Up again today. Stuck to 1500 calories yesterday but worked an 11 hour day so movement was minimal and had to skip the gym. So hard to get the balance right! Hoping a few days off work will
reduce stress levels and give me more opportunities to move.

Also forgot to jab last night! So had to do it this morning instead, will see if that affects anything this week.

notcomfortable · 17/02/2026 13:16

Really don't want to come home

Looked up the whoosh effect. It says before fat cells collapse they fill with water and some people may appear to gain weight as per the scales. Then follows a big loss of 2-5lb. I'm hoping this is what is happening to me. I did not know about this during previous dieting. God I was so confused sometimes and gave up. With the wegovy I can just keep going, doing what I am doing and wait this out.

I do plan a bit of a re-feed day tomorrow, which is jab day. Just giving myself permission to eat a bit more in case the effects have worn off so much that it will be hard to stick to my usual deficit. Apparently this can also cause the whoosh effect so who am I to not try this out. 😂

bec81 · 17/02/2026 14:23

Pancakes are regular fare in our house, my husband makes them for kids most weekends. I dont usually bother with them. Ill have a salad tonight while the kids scoff their body weight in pancakes and chocolate spread ☺️

cravingmilkshake · 17/02/2026 14:25

Yes I’m trying not to get hung up on the weight - up 0.4kg from yesterday - however I did the gym (weights and a spin class ) last night and just now know it’s the water - has to be . So would expect a drop tomorrow or the next day . But as you can see , goes up for a couple of days . Then whooshes down , then repeat for my life 🤣🤣. But I just keep following the trend and that’s what’s keeping me going .

cautiouslyoptimistic3 · 17/02/2026 14:39

It definitely needs patience and the trend needs to be looked at over time (reminding myself here). Completely agree on the refeed point @Perimenoanti. Part of me wonders whether the few days in the week where I am feeling hungrier is just resetting the metabolism automatically. Don’t think the jabs were built with that in mind but maybe a good unintended consequence.

Perimenoanti · 17/02/2026 14:52

Some of the explanations on the whoosh effect have shown plateaus of two weeks and a full cycle of 4-5 weeks. It's been 5-6 days for me.

It says you lose, then you suddenly appear to gain, plateau and then the whoosh comes.

whiteandblackfluffycat · 17/02/2026 14:57

I will be having a couple of pancakes for dinner later - we only have them once a year! I’ve been incredibly healthy since the start of January so think I can treat myself. They’re 149 calories each (plus toppings; I have lemon juice on one and a thin layer of jam on the other), plus I’ve only had 100 calories worth of soup so far today!

Springflowers3 · 17/02/2026 15:33

@notcomfortable sign of a very good holiday.

@Perimenoanti that is really interesting re an explanation for the whoosh effect. I’m finding this too - was really happy with the the scales on Sunday morning and then two days of below tdee plus constipation finally shifting, I am four pounds heavier.

I noticed this last week too. I am trying to drink a lot more water as I’ve increased my fibre intake so I like the thought of my fat cells filling with water and then bursting. Whoosh!!

FrothyCothy · 17/02/2026 18:56

I’m not a Pancake lover so just had the one with chicken, beans and eat lean cheese 😁

Etherealcelestialbeing · 17/02/2026 19:06

@Tryingagainfor2026thanks for that - it’s good to hear from someone who has done it first! You are of course right - people travel with medication all the time! I am slightly nervous about the temperature fluctuations so will make a decision closer to the time.

We ate out for lunch today to celebrate a birthday so I chose chicken casserole with mash (ate about half the portion). I had 1 pancake with raspberries for tea! The rest were enjoyed by the family.

@totallyfrustedi really recommend Imodium to help you. I have powered through my latest lot of side effects with a combo of paracetamol, simeticone (bloating/gurgling tum), pepto bismol (acid reflux) and Imodium (diarrhoea). Not usually one for lots of medication but it means I’m not in bed over half term like I was in week 1 and 4.

totallyfrusted · 17/02/2026 19:22

Hi all and thanks everyone for the advice.

things seem to have settled and I managed to sleep through last night and make it safely through a day at the office.

i am meant to be taking dose 2 of 5mg tomorrow so need to decide what to do.

Do I chance another 5 and hope it won’t be as bad or play safe and go back 2.5….

AddUpToNothing · 17/02/2026 19:41

Evening all.

My 2nd week on 5mg has been a bit different to my first. The appetite suppression is much stronger this week and I’m finding it quite difficult to eat enough. I’m skipping breakfast and sometimes lunch too. Or having a clear protein drink and a piece of fruit. Making an effort to have a balanced evening meal even if I don’t really fancy it.

Me personally I would keep going with 5, but wait a day or two until your injection was due and then do it
But thats just me
I am glad you are feeling better

Ralphiesaurus · 17/02/2026 20:09

@AddUpToNothing I've been on my second week of 5mg too and having a similar experience to you - really struggling at times to eat a sensible amount. Very unlike me! I've got jab 3 of 4 tomorrow and have bought my next pen - staying at 5mg. I hope I have a "whoosh" soon... glad I'm not the only one with madly fluctuating weight!

Perimenoanti · 17/02/2026 20:35

God I feel good tonight. I had the cod in broccoli and cheese from lidl as a quick dinner. The whole thing has only 344kcl and an insane amount of protein. I added some boiled potato. Then had two pieces of dark chocolate and feel im done. I will def buy that again!

Im back to intermittent fasting at the moment. Had overnight oats at 2pm, then a slice of crispbread with soft cheese and then dinner.

Thank you,

I had thought about delaying the jab as I still have appetite suppression but the good thing about injecting on a Wednesday is that I seem to have the worse symptoms when I’m at home over the weekend so can make it to the office for Monday.

4th dose of 5 mg coming up Thursday and time to reorder.

Anyone thinking of going up to 7.5mg?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 18/02/2026 07:26

This week's randomly generated number is 115.5 kg which is a 3.1 kg loss.

SW: 135 kg
CW: 115.5 kg
Total loss: 19.5 kg

That a 3 stone loss so far.

Not here. I wanted to get onto the ‘therapeutic’ dose but I’ve always thought I’m going to stick to 5mg, even if suppression lessens, as I’m not planning on being on it long term.

whiteandblackfluffycat · 18/02/2026 07:59

I forgot to add my husband has stuck to 5mg and is still losing well; he’s a month ahead of me and has now lost 4 stone (he had a lot more to lose)!

ThisAmusedPoet · 18/02/2026 08:31

Shot day today, so I’m here checking in!

After a couple of days of headaches I was nervous about side effects but that seems to have gone now. Phew. I also don’t seem to have any bad reactions to food, which I’m pleased with! Had a lunar new year dinner out last night and managed to eat a portion (much smaller than normal, but still satisfying) and feel good - and wake up with lower scales despite the high salt!

I was strongly debating going up to 7.5mg but considering I’m still losing a kg a week on 5mg, I’m going to stick for another month at least. So I’ve reordered and we’ll see how it goes! I’ll also use my “golden dose” this month.

Very happy to hit the 10kg milestone in 6 weeks!

SW 1/1/26 - 93.3kg
MJ1 (2.5mg) 7/1/26 - 90.3 kg -3kg
MJ2 14/1/26 - 87.5kg -2.8kg
MJ3 21/1/26 - 86.5kg -1kg
MJ4 28/1/26 - no scale
MJ5 (5mg) 5/2/26 - no scale
MJ6 11/2/26 - 84.05kg -2.45kg
MJ7 18/2/26 - 83.05kg -1kg

GW - 68kg
Total loss: -10.25kg
