A supportive, idea-sharing thread for those with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. We're a mixture of newbies, nearly theres, there and maintaining and we know what it's like to have what can seem like a mountain to climb - but we also know we can do it!

Nothing is off topic except referral codes 😊

How are you this morning @QueenOfHiraeth ?

Thank you for asking.
I woke up feeling quite nauseous but don't know if I've just thought myself into it Grin so am doing that very British thing of having extra cups of tea to feel better.
I'm looking on the bright side and thinking this may be what I need to break my plateau...

taratill · 14/04/2026 11:08

Can I join? I started with 5.5 stone to lose 5 weeks ago.

SW -15 stone
CW - hovering on the 14 stone mark on my unsophisticated scales.

GW 1 - 12st 11lbs ( top of overweight bmi)
GW 2-pm 10 st 9 (top of healthy)
GW 3 - 10 st (the weight I was when I got married 23 years ago!

Beyond that who knows as it seems so very distant!

Onegramatatime · 14/04/2026 15:15

@QueenOfHiraeth , hopefully you break your plateau. Hope you stay okay.

Welcome @taratill. Love your stepwise targets. Big congratulations on your one stone loss🎉🎉

GiveMeWordGames · 15/04/2026 21:19

Hope you feel better and break your plateau @QueenOfHiraeth . Welcome @taratill

I'm beginning to think that all the people on WLIs are creating a shortage of 5% strained yoghurt.😂 I mentioned way upthread about the Sainsbury's bargain own brand version. That's been consistently out of stock now for 2-3 weeks, so I've gone back to Fage. This week the sodding Fage one is OOS, in both sizes. I'm left with the Yeo Valley version, also 5% strained, which I've not tried before. It's now in my order. Let's see if I actually get it tomorrow......

WeAllHaveWings · 15/04/2026 21:22

Swift Doctor just put a post on their Facebook page to say they have passed their GPhC inspection first time. 👏

That was the one last concern I had about moving to another pharmacy that hadn’t passed after Oushk had so many issues when they were inspected/had enforcement action against them. Possibly was less the guidelines and more Oushk and their procedures.

MooBaggage · 16/04/2026 19:26

I've had a mini whoosh and have lost 2lbs, so am now in the unknown land of the 12 stone something....

13.1.25 SW 20st 3lb BMI 43.0
16.4.26 CW 12st 12lbs BMI 27.3

16lbs to go until a BMI of under 25. I'm sure I'll have a week or two now of no loss, but over each month I'm losing 4 - 5lbs and have actually started to accept that this may just be the case until I get to my goal - hopefully by October...

Meanwhile, I had cataract surgery on Tuesday, so now have ridiculously good vision in one eye and have stopped wearing glasses. So it's even more weird looking in the mirror now - my body and now face look totally different. I'm a bit discombobulated, but looking forward to getting the other eye done now and being able to see clearly for the first time in a long time!

Just catching up, lovely to read of your successes!
I’ve been quiet lately.
Scales not really moving much (1kg in 2-3 weeks).
I know great losses so far (40kg since Jan 2025) but now slow.
Considering going up to 12.5mg. However, my suppression right nue not bad it's just I'm not loosing.
Have picked up exercise. Now managing 25min runs with CT5K app.

What do you think, stick at 10mg (been on for 7month) as loss slowed last 3 months.
Worried about cost, body getting used to higher dose then being unable to maintain & cost of maintenance. Also think if go up, I get moreside effects & struggle to eat nutritious complete meals.

MooBaggage · 17/04/2026 04:27

@Reginaphalangeeeee Hello! We're on roughly the same trajectory I think and I had the same dilemma a few weeks ago re: whether to move from 10mg to 12.5mg. I did move up and am glad I did as it's given me the kick I needed to hopefully get the last 1 - 1.5 stone off. I'm absolutely sure I won't need to go any higher and I'm looking forward to starting to taper down later this year, but I felt stuck at the end of being on 10mg and had noticed my portion sizes were increasing and just a tiny bit more food noise and temptation creeping back in.

But I get you re: the cost and the fear of getting stuck at the top of the dosage. I can't remember how much more you want to lose - I've got just over a stone to go, so hopefully another 6 months and am sure I can do it now on the 12.5mg, which has given me some reassurance.

The slowing down is a total pain but I'm trying to see it as the best way to keeping the weight off, as frustrating as it is!

Hello everyone, it’s so hard down the line, isn’t it?
We’ve returned from our holidays where predictably I was eating most unhealthily. It was counteracted by lots of walking but still - I didn’t lose anything and my weight has been bobbing up and down and staying the same for a month or two now..
Very frustrating, especially that, against my earlier vows to self, I did go up to 5mg recently.

Holiday was great though, and we had a fantastic time as a family and ticked everything off on our list to see and experience.

I had a good look at my body in the mirror now and I have now some unattractive loose skin on my belly, not much and not very pronounced but will be needing some attention. Saggy bossom - totally expected,
(owner of big boobs), can be helped only a little by strong cagelike encasing bra:).
But what has happened to my bottom?
It’s a saggy sorry flat pancake now?!!
I have always had a good derriere, it never really went when I was losing weight before??
It’s a disaster now. I think it is the most aging feature of my figure now.
I am in my late 50. but for the love of God - I did not expect that.

I know, I know, you’ll tell me to exercise , but realistically I probably won’t. I’m doing my hand weights and that’s it.

Ah well.. I’ll have to reconcile with the loss of perky bottom. Move on and concentrate on further losing as still have 1-1.5 st to shed.

Carry on everyone and keep on losing♥️

MooBaggage · 17/04/2026 08:47

@SecondCircuit OMG me too re: the general crinkling and saggy skin... I've only noticed this in the last few lbs loss - it's definitely happening now I'm heading into the last stone or so, which I'm a bit gutted about as I secretly thought I'd somehow avoided the skin thing. My bum is also now completely flat - I'm not so bothered about that - the crinkling around my stomach is bothering me more at the moment and around the top of my legs. But... I know InfoSec always said it's a small price to pay, so I have to think of it like that.

Final push through this last stone or so - wr can do it! 😍

SecondCircuit · 17/04/2026 08:56

@MooBaggage - great news re your eyes op. I remember your worry a few months ago and inability to do nighttime driving due to cataract. Hope all is now on good track and your ribs also on the mend.
❤️‍🩹

SecondCircuit · 17/04/2026 09:14

Yep, agree @MooBaggage the skin thing only happened very recently. Until then I’d been so smug that everyone got wrinkled stomach and I managed to avoid getting it by:
a) losing slowly and sensibly
b) not having a large midriff in the first place.

How wrong I was. (Hangs head in shame).

But as I said - I’m most surprised by the flat sad looking bum. It just bloody screams old age to me🤦‍♀️

GiveMeWordGames · 17/04/2026 10:04

Oh, yeah, my arse left the building a while ago. I do try and give it a boost with goblet squats but to no avail so far. Glad you had a lovely holiday @SecondCircuit and that you've now got a good eye, @MooBaggage ! Roll on both eyes and that final stone or so for both of you.

I would move up @Reginaphalangeeeee . I think there's an element of false economy in not moving up due to cost, if in the end it means it's going to take longer.

I've been bobbling around between 11st 1 and 2. I'd still really like to nudge down to 11st but having come down to 5mg this week, I know that might be hard. Lowest the scales have shown is 11st 1.25lb. Ultimately I'm still 2lb or more below goal and have survived Easter and DH's birthday relatively intact!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 17/04/2026 10:05

Thanks @MooBaggage
Really grateful for your thoughts and sharing experience.
I think I have 2 stone (12kg) to loose. That would take me to BMI 28 at 85kg. I can not imagine myself smaller than this and able to maintain.
Technically I need 74kg to have a healthy BMI and that means 22kg to go which seem unachievable given rate of loss over last 6months and maybe my desire to still look like me and have a chance of sustaining.

@MooBaggage did you go straight to 12.5 or titrated up?
Big cost increase doing it?
Scared I will be really hungry on 10mg if do this and costs are getting a bit much for me. I keep hoping there is going to be another cheaper option out but not sure that is any time soon.
I’ve seen some come off MJ then need to go back on and all previous doses don't work for them (that is part of my thoughts about keeping 12.5 and 15 untouched)

MoneyJo · 17/04/2026 10:11

I have stalled a bit and only lost 1lb this week. I'm thinking perhaps I don't eat enough protein so have had yogurt for breakfast instead of the nothing I usually have. Have any of you noticed protein helps?

MooBaggage · 17/04/2026 10:23

@Reginaphalangeeeee I went straight to 12.5mg from 10mg and definitely felt the difference immediately re: suppression. I felt after about 5 months on 10mg I needed the kick, but that's probably just me being impatient! I'm back to how I felt when I moved from 2.5mg to 5mg, if you see what I mean, where the suppression was immediately much stronger - plus am a bit constipated so have upped the milled flaxseed on granola or in smoothies.

Price-wise I'm still shopping around each month, so am keeping it to around £250 per pen and am hoping to keep finding it at around that price for the next 6 months before I start to try to reduce down. My budget (which I know I'm lucky to be able to factor in to life) is £250 a month, which is why I can't go any higher than 12.5mg!

OP posts:
Reginaphalangeeeee · 17/04/2026 10:35

Thanks @GiveMeWordGames you make a very valid point about false economy.
I have so much to loose still it feels daunting and I don't know I can ever do this again without MJ support.
People are still getting used to the version of me 40kg lighter. I still look like I have a lot of weight to loose, but not at the level people double take a look as I pass. I look like I fit in society now and with my running I do feel healthier and move better too. At size 14-16 I think my weight almost doesn't match at 97kg 🤷‍♀️
All I have read and learnt is importance of keeping muscle to avoid damaging future metabolism and seem to be able to balance current eating levels with ease, but it is just not enough to budge weight.
Ahh so difficult to know what is right. Genuine and informed non bias advice seems difficult to find as pharmacists happy to move me up and it's their income! Others who are medically informed have biased views.
You all here are the very best in terms of sharing experiences and thoughts and I am grateful.

Zebracat · 17/04/2026 10:44

My bum looks better, it was always square and flat, but now it is neat and rounded. I think it’s the swimming, I’ve got toned arms and legs too. The bit in the middle however is a very badly deflated soufflé. It’s my face I’m most upset about. I’ve always moisturised, with whatever’s on offer, and never sunbathed so had quite good skin. But my skin has become so dry and wrinkly. I’ve now spent money on cleansers serums and moisturisers etc, and they have actually improved matters. So that’s annoying, but it may just be consistency and not putting soap on my face.
I’m not losing any weight at all currently. I’m on15 mls, tracking, eating properly and very active. My Dh thinks it may be that I’m gaining muscle. He doesn’t think I need to lose more weight, but I have over 10 kilos to lose for a bmi under 25. I don’t know what to do. Shall I put up a picture and ask for your honest opinions?

Reginaphalangeeeee · 17/04/2026 10:55

On the flat bum conversation. Mine is definitely not flat but have invested in new halara uktrasculpt leggings.
They have magic trickery for your but, to round and lift it!
My social media streams were flooded by adverts for them and I caved. They do look lovely on but I still have an ample but!
Maybe try a pair a bit cheaper from vinted if interested.

@InfoSecInTheCity’s Plateau Breaking Tips

  • Have you checked your TDEE at your current weight, your calorie allowance reduces with your weight so you may need to eat less calories to stay in deficit.
  • Are you drinking 2 lts of fluid a day
  • are you getting enough sleep (bad or little sleep buggers up your hormones and causes hunger, and slows down weight loss)
  • could you move more, a 20 min brisk walks after your main meal helps break down glucose and boost metabolism
  • have you introduced some kind of exercise. If your muscles are aching then they are in need of healing, that process uses water so your body will retain it to save for that. Boost your water and have rest days.
  • Is your mix of foods good, are you having plenty of protein, fibre, good fats and choosing low GI/seeded/wholegrain carbs.
RobinEllacotStrike · 17/04/2026 11:07

I'd say the loss of my lovely bum is the one negative of this weight loss for me. I've always had a rather splendid bottom if I say so myself.

Now it is flat and seems to have blended into the top of my thighs. And also its saggy and wrinkly underneath/top of thighs.

My legs are really strong, my glutes are strong, and I can hold a strong chair pose/squat etc no worries. But my butt has left the building.

It's very difficult isn't it when BMI doesn't seem to guide us well.
I think we get distorted views from ourself and others and ultimately this was all about health for me. I think there comes a point where further weight loss may be aesthetic rather than health (provided you are active, strong and eating well).
It's balancing why you began this journey.

Annoyingly I find the expensive face creams and serums do work wonders. I also began facial massage/lymphatic drainage and try to be consistent.
I think I actually look you her since weight loss in my face but also know there is a point where it will age a face.

MooBaggage · 17/04/2026 12:07

@Zebracat yes to the picture - we love a photo! My DP also thinks I don't need to lose any more weight, but I have 15lbs to go to get to a BMI of under 25.

I think maybe they don't entirely understand that when you've been obese for so many years, the chance to get to something called 'healthy' is just so unbelievable, there's definitely no way I'm stopping now.

Also, of course we look completely different having lost so much weight - but I'm still a very curvy size 14 - 16 so know I've got more to lose. Most of us seem to just want to be somewhere near a BMI of 24 point something - nowhere near the bottom end of 'healthy'.

I think my age (58) has as much if not more to do with the butt loss than anything to do with MJ.
