Has anyone NOT regained weight after stopping WLI?

I’ve just read the responses to another thread about what happens when you stop WLI. The majority or people say they’ve regained all weight lost. This is so depressing.

I’m at my target weight now, after losing 3 stone on 5mg, and am terrified of regaining when I stop. I’ve injected 2.5mg for the last 2 weeks and already feel my appetite increasing. I’m tracking calories (1500 - I’m 5ft 1), run 5k 3x a week and walk at least 10,000 steps a day so I’m doing what I should (I think?). Anyone not regained? And what have you done?

Thanks for all of your posts. I feel like there’s hope! I’m just going to have to embrace a life of calorie counting and exercise which is a small price to pay for being slim!

I've got a lot to lose, and I've been thinking about this; I've been on the starting dose of Wegovy for a couple of months and my appetite is already half of what it was...I can cope with the current side-effects but not if they get more noticeable with each higher dose.

I am wondering if it's possible to stay on the low dose and lose a little each week through doing Fast 800 or something similar...so the WLI are making weight loss possible, rather than me being entirely reliant on them to make it happen.

And that way, maybe, when it's time to come off them, I won't notice the lack of them so much, especially as I'll hopefully have got used to the new way of eating.

Does this sound reasonable or does it not work like that?

I started Wegovy in middle of June and have kept to the lowest doses possible to effect some appetite suppression. I have the complication of a Wegovy/ Warfarin interaction and I am unfortunately on Warfarin for life. If my Wegovy dose is high it causes my Warfarin levels to rocket up due to the lack of mobility of my gut.
Despite this, and not being able to exercise initially due to an injury, I’ve now lost nearly 20 kilos. I have overhauled my diet and don’t have any biscuits/chocolate/cake in the house and I feel fairly confident that I will be able to continue with the regime without putting on weight. I have for the first time in my life been happy on a diet and not bothered about when I can stop. Yes, I do occasionally feel hungry but I hope that this time will teach me to listen to my body and not eat mindlessly. The big plus from all this is that I now no longer need surgery for my injury so it’s been nothing but a good thing for me.

I am quite medically supervised and had to get an ok from several different departments in order for this all to happen so I have an f2f meeting with a consultant every three months to check that everything is ok. No one is pressuring me to increase my dose and I have a lot of input into the decisions.

good luck with your weight loss journey @alovelypatternedcarpet. If a low dose works for you I would encourage you to keep
with it.

Yes, you can do that. Indeed it’s a good idea to use the lowest possible dose that works for you. Slow and steady on a good diet with exercise 💪

SergeantWrinkles · 26/01/2026 07:28

I haven’t! I’ve stayed broadly the same bar 1-2kg after a bit of excess over Xmas which I shifted pretty easily. Been off about 6 months.

Disturbia81 · 26/01/2026 08:56

The people who regain go back to eating more. But if you keep up the healthy habits and accept the new way of life then you won’t.

As with any WL method

Wickedlittledancer · 26/01/2026 13:20

Absolutely to both comments, people keep posting like it’s some new thing to regain weight after dieting, or that they thought the drugs meant you were slim forever even when you don’t take them, I find it very odd to be honest.

maybe that’s why we don’t see it on the slimming world or low carb threads etc, as people really do think if you lose weight you are guaranteed to be slim forever and so this has taken them by surprise or maybe they thought the drugs magically changed your body so you were slim forever even when you don’t take them.

the simple fact is the drugs don’t work when you don’t take them. You won’t gain weight if you eat to maintence cals only, and will only gain if you eat more than you burn, like after any other weight loss method.

SnacklessWonder · 26/01/2026 13:52

Yes, me! I feel like a broken record, I say this so often 😂

I stopped December 2024, came off completely and was 8st 11.6lb. By July I was 8st 3.8lb - not trying to lose weight, just maintaining. Today, I am 8st 5.0lb so not much difference. I fluctuate between 8st 3.8lb and 8st 6.4lb (I weigh daily to keep track).

I used the time on MJ (four months - I lost 3 stone) to change my eating habits. I don't hugely exercise, but keep my steps/movement up and am far more mindful of what I eat, but I do drink way too much wine!

I was hungry when I stopped, of course I was, but there was no crazy RAGING INSATIABLE appetite like everyone would have you believe (generally, people who want to see people who use WLI fail).

Alltheyellowbirds · 26/01/2026 14:04

@SnacklessWonder Thank you so much for sharing your story! I recently started MJ and have been quite despondent after reading all the people on this and the previous thread suggesting it’s not possible. Fingers crossed I can follow your example!

Exactly! Use the jabs to lose weight as well as to change your diet & lifestyle.
You can’t regain any weight if you don’t eat more than you burn. Also focus on gaining more muscle as a higher muscle mass means a higher metabolism!

FringeTime · 26/01/2026 12:42

Exactly. I don’t understand why people think it’s a magic wand that will work forever. Every human being has to work at keeping a healthy weight.

Stephanddaph · 26/01/2026 18:22

I have a mainly positive experience to share that might help! I was on mj from September 24 to June 25- I went from 14 stone 7 lbs (I’m 5 foot 3) to 9 stone within that time. I am currently 8 stone 9 so I’ve lost a few pounds following on from stopping mj and have managed to maintain since.

I won’t lie though- it’s not been easy and it’s taken a lot of will power to remain within maintenance calories- I am hungry a lot of the time. I am also very consistently active- I strength train at the gym 4 times a week and run 3 times a week (average around 20km per week)- so it has taken a lot of ongoing effort and a really stringent routine. But it is worth it ultimately.

Darkdarknightinthedarkdarkstaircase · 26/01/2026 18:24

Me! I now go up and down 5lbs like a more normal person. As soon as I see it going up a bit, I just cut back for a few days.
I have maintained for a year now

rainandshine38 · 26/01/2026 19:07

I wonder if I will put weight back on with Wegovny because it hasn’t really switched off my food noise. I just can’t eat as much.

littleyellowflowerspotted · 26/01/2026 19:24

I am expecting a little weight gain when I eventually come off but the difference is, I know I can always go back on if I need to. I’ll be happy to just scrape into the normal BMI category and if I’m edging into ‘overweight’, back on I’ll go.

I’ve done loads of crash diets in the past and they were so, so hard. I inevitably regain but couldn’t face going back on the crash diet because I couldn’t face any more shakes/soups/plastic food. But with MJ, it’s different. I feel for the first time in my life, I have hope.

Booksandcheese · 26/01/2026 19:59

I have been off it for about 6 weeks now and have lost another 4lb. I used the time on it to change my lifestyle and eating habits. The food noise has come back but I didn't suddenly have the urge to binge like a mad woman as some people would have you believe. Ultimately it is the same as stopping any other diet method, if I go back to how I was before I will regain the weight. I have to take responsibility and keep up the healthier lifestyle.
I have spent most of my adult life as a yo-yo dieter bingeing, using exercise as a punishment and, hating my body. I have had to reframe my mindset completely and the mj gave me the space I needed to do that. It has still been hard work but I am proud of myself and looking forward to a healthier version of me for the future.

Exactly. As long as you keep an eye on your weight, you’ll be able to react and cut down on calories when needed.

There are a couple of people on the WLI thread I'm on, who are off, or only on 1.25mg per week, who haven't regained and who are loving life.

I've switched to Wegovy for cost, when I was at goal. Am "reverse dieting", strength training and slowly reducing my dose (just ordered the 1.7 pen). No regain thus far. Some weeks I'm up a couple lbs, some weeks I'm down the same, but overall I'm consistent and feeling strong and well (touch wood!). If I do start regaining, I'll put more effort into eating right, and if that doesn't work, go back on the jabs (although I don't feel atm like this is likely). No reason to panic; there are always options, and you will be okay x

That’s good to hear @CantBreathe90 - can you link to that thread? I’m tapering and am currently in 1.5

Witchyandtwitchy · 27/01/2026 13:47

I reached goal in Sept, when I was on 10mg. After being on MJ for a year and losing 4st.

I’ve been reducing my dose since about November and I’m now on 5mg every 2 weeks.
My weight has been stable apart from after Christmas, when I gained about 7lbs! But quickly dropped back down without too much effort. I weigh every day and seem to fluctuate a couple of pounds up or down.

I eat healthy, avoid UPF’s, always have done really, I have the occasional cake if I feel like it, but I don’t crave sweet things like I sometimes used to.

I feel that losing the weight was more about eating less and only eating what I needed and keeping it off is more about activity, not just exercise, but general movement, if that makes sense.

maz99 · 27/01/2026 14:16

Lollylavender · 25/01/2026 08:53

Maybe the jabs actually DO make you hungrier than before? Maybe they reduce your metabolism? You also lose muscle mass when using the jabs, and less muscle means a lower metabolism.

Corrections

Weight loss can reduce your metabolism. You also lose muscle mass when losing weight fast and less muscle means a lower metabolism.

To be clear, everyone will lose some muscle during weight loss... the amount of muscle lost will depend on how fast the weight loss.

gettingalife · 27/01/2026 18:14

Reading these posts has really helped me feel more positive about maintaining my weight. Thank you to all who have posted and given me hope. @BooksandcheeseI agree that mj gives us the headspace to reframe our mindset and start again. I realise now the mistakes I’ve been making and can look forward to a healthier relationship with food hopefully.
