I'm just telling people I'm making a big effort with my diet, which is the truth!

My weight has gone up gradually over ~5 years after I'd managed to get down to a good weight previously with diet and exercise, the exercise doing most of the heavy lifting. I'm in medical menopause now, the hormone tap was suddenly turned off and exercise alone isn't cutting it so I have to go for short, sharp shock! that's what I'm telling people to explain why I'm being a fussy eater and not drinking. Alcohol is empty calories, so I can't justify them when I've weighed out every element of my breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I was diagnosed with a hernia before Xmas (one of the reasons I finally took the plunge with mj) so I can blame it on that.

though I haven’t even told people about that. I was too embarrassed as I thought they would all think it was because I was overweight and my own fault

CatNoBag · 04/02/2026 10:12

Does that have a dose already taken or is it unused? It looks like mine, I've taken 4 doses and still have the liquid between the small line and the end of the syringe left? If you haven't taken a dose already, I'd query it with the supplier as it looks like one dose has already gone?

It's unused. So there's only 4 doses now.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 04/02/2026 12:16

I walked down to the nearby health centre and used their scales. 123.4 kg for me. Which is a 0.9 kg gain. I feel a bit disappointed but also now doubt the previous figures which came from the unreliable scales. I think that in future I'll go over to the health centre and use theirs.

Alltheyellowbirds · 04/02/2026 12:27

Whatstfpoint · 04/02/2026 11:41

Bloody hell, so you have basically no idea what's going on 😂

I found out a while back that my scales are reliable. I kept going on it because I didn't like the first number and thought I'm just going to weigh again hoping it would show a lower number. But nope. It remained the same 😂

Yep, mine say exactly the same no matter how often I try to get a lower weight 🤣

I'd contact your supplier to check - I have two new pens waiting in the fridge and your looks like the first dose is missing, which means it's already been opened and you have no way of telling when that was.

Honestly don't despair. I'd weigh in daily if you haven't already. I 'lost' 800g overnight. All water and waster after my beige food weekend. It takes the pressure off weigh and jab day.

I believe it’s been known for a while that the manufacturers were planning to remove the extra dose. I’ve read chat about it on other threads.

Looks like the 5th dose is no longer an option. My new pen doesn't have it.

I know companies were going to remove the extra liquid but I would also just double check, I have just opened my 5mg and its got the full 5 doses, yours definitely looks used

Is it just generally impossible for perimeno women to lose weight?

Does the body eventually give in that yes, body, you are going to lose that weight?

Is there 1 hormone (more) responsible for the meno weight?

totallyfrusted · 04/02/2026 09:15

Can anyone recommend an online dance / exercise program. All the ones I’ve looked at I need to sign upto and I’d quite like to try a lesson before I have to agree to a monthly subscription.

I really need to up my exercise to keep things moving

Not dance but Caroline Girvan has multiple programmes for free on YouTube, she has an app too. You’ll need weights.
I like Mizi for days when I want something quicker and easier!
I also like Jillian Michael’s workouts; I have lots of DVDs but I believe she has an app now.

All women react differently, but not only could I not lose weight, but it piled on once I started HRT, with the same diet (1400-1500 calories) and exercise routine! Last year I cut my calories to the same as I’m eating now (800-1000) for a month, and didn’t lose a thing! Not sure which hormone it is but I’m noticing a difference in not losing as much/ staying the same when I’m on the progesterone part of my HRT, as I think the same is happening this month as happened last month. But at least I’m no longer gaining!

Thank you. I shall look into all of those. My husband has weights so that’s not a problem

Newstartplease24 · 04/02/2026 13:54

I feel like the body really wants to hang onto weight and demands more calories than it needs to do that. I think some of the nausea and weakness I’ve had on wegovy is my body throwing advanced hunger symptoms at me really hard as I’ve smashed through early stage hunger without caving as I’m on wegovy. I’m reminded now how much effort I always used to have to put into denying myself food when I was slim. The body does not want that denial and will find some way to get back at you for it

Gro with jo on YouTube is amazing, you can do thousands of steps without even leaving the house

MrTiddlesTheCat · 04/02/2026 14:03

I've had a bit of a panic about posibly having a used pen, but looking at it closer I really dont think it is. If you look at it now I've used it, you can see a black, dose sized spacer behind the grey plunger bit. This isn't in earler pens. So it looks like they've taken out the first dose rather than the last one.

This is mine with one dose used, yours definitely looks different
Who did you go with if you don't mind me asking? I'll avoid them if they have got new pens 😅

Should be easy to avoid as I got it from my local chemist in Sweden. 😀

Dont know if its true, I have read the black stopper is there to prevent the plunger going fully down for fifth dose. There's a thread on reddit about them coming out in Europe. I have checked and mine doesn't have this.

Although picture of the pen shows 4 doses in the pen so looks like there won't be 5th dose in newer pens they have started with higher doses and phasing in. At least MrTiddlesTheCat you can be confident it is a brand new pen.

i’m still trying to get my head round how MJ is affecting my body. I had a stressful day yesterday and didn’t eat too healthily as in minimal protein, the food itself wasn’t bad. Had a slight move on the scales this morning. On pre MJ days this would never have happened. I would have gained weight or stayed the same unless I did extended fasting or did low carb.

today (2 days after jab) I felt a bit queasy as in felt as if I ate anymore I would be sick. But this went away when I did eat. The same happened yesterday. I am wondering if this is the body’s way of giving me a hunger cue. It’s odd to me as I have been able to do extended fasting before and can do without food during that time.

Edited

I think am going to come off progesterone 200 mg for a couple weeks (I don't use oestrogel).

As an experiment. See does the scale move.

I had a couple big surgeries and was sent to a dietician post-op. I was swearing blind to the dietician that I was following the plan. And I was. I felt it was hormonal.

Altho still quite young, I was then started on hrt, estogel and progesterone. The oestrogel (rub on) drove me mad. The comb patch, I'd an allergic reaction to the glue on the patch...i wouldnt let them insert an iud.

Within a week, I lost a whole stone. Dietician was amazed. But as said, the estrogen drove me nuts and very bad breast pain.

So, I stayed on progesterone 200 mg, continually.

I feel at certain times of the month am going to get a period, but I never do.

Am going to come off the pg for a few weeks now and see.

I have to get a small surgery down there in about a month/in March and will see the gynae surgeon then. And I'll be able to report to her my findings.

But there is no point in paying e300+ I think to have no results and battling hormones. It's very cruel (for all ye younger ones reading!).

This sounds very similar to me - I sometimes wake up a bit nauseous, but once I eat something or have a big glass of water I'm ok. I was also half expecting a big personality change because every aspect of food is such a big thing for me, but I still like looking up recipes, shopping for food etc, just that when it comes to eating I can take it or leave it now and don't get tempted to snack or buy a pastry from the bakery etc! I've reduced my calories and try to focus on protein over carbs, smaller portions etc. The same as I've always done but usually hit a plateau. Not sure if the plateau is yet to come (I'm on my 4th week) or if the MJ is helping me stay on the straight and narrow whereas I'd normally have started wavering by now or allowed myself a weekend treat after parkrun etc.

Kittkats · 04/02/2026 19:26

My new pen has a black bit behind the plunger! Med express 5mg.
