Welcome fellow maintainers to our third thread! Tis the season to be joyful and we do have reasons to be joyful, as we are still here. Not always the perfect journey and full of treats and temptations, but we'd have nothing to talk about otherwise. So hop on the Magical Maintenance Sleigh of Wonder and lets go! (Apologies to all those reading this for the first time in March! I got a bit carried away my festive season puns.)

@MJMabel glad to hear your good news too about the lost Christmas kilo. 👏

Haven't used Oushk, but there are other providers offering maintenance now. I'm using Pharmulous at the moment, so I think you could always swap, if Oushk start being tricky.

Hopefully, the hair loss will continue to reduce. I've heard that it is often more to do with the weight loss itself, than the MJ, so hopefully now you are stable it will settle.

So lovely to read how other people are getting on. I’m still on 2.5mg and the extra kilo I gained over the holidays has now gone, I’m at my lowest ever weight (long may that last).

My hair is still awful but at least the shedding is not as bad. I really hope it will start to grow in thicker soon.

I’m on oushk’s maintenance plan, and am hoping to stay on it indefinitely. Would Oushk try to prevent me doing this at any point (ie after a year or two years of maintenance?). Not sure what their policy is.

@MJMabel
How are Oushk about using a pen for longer. I have a maintenance call with them today.
I am currently using a 10mg pen now taking 2.5mg I've been using it for 7 weeks.
I want to use a 5mg to take 2.5mg to save money.

FurForksSake · 23/01/2026 09:50

@MJMabel I think as long as you’ve had an order within 12 months you’re safe with them. I can’t imagine hira getting rid of us, I hope she doesn’t.

MJMabel · 23/01/2026 09:50

Hmm, good question, I’m not sure. I use 2.5mg a week but always use the golden dose so only re-order every five weeks, and they seem fine with that. They should be used to these questions though as so many people must be in this position. Really good luck with your call later, let us know how it goes and what they say!

I weighted myself for the first time in a very disrupted week and im happy to see i have lost 0.5kg when i had expected to gain!
im definitely back into “open the cupboards to see if there’s something eat” mode but im too lazy/too picky to make myself… i think i need to be kinder to myself. I have had an horrendous week so it is fine if my eating is not great. From today onwards things should be better.
hair wise, ive noticed less shedding which i am very glad about because i was worried!!
loose skin - im lucky that only my tummy looks crepey. My boobs are a bit empty but i dont mind too much.
happy friday all!

Incognitoburrito88 · 23/01/2026 11:56

Hi everyone - sorry I’ve been AWOL - I’m locked out of mumsnet - I can click through for a password reset link but it just logs me in in my email browser but doesn’t let me change my password - very frustrating.

Anyway - I’m still maintaining - I’m 10st 1 which is BMI 22 and well below my goal of 10st 7. I’m taking 2.5mg every second week. Think I will continue with this for the foreseeable future. My plan was to maintain for a year and then try to come off. That would mean me stopping in September - I’m doing a marathon at the end of September so might try coming off post race but I’ll see…

I’m definitely experiencing food noise and hunger in the 2nd week post jab. The hunger I can cope with but the food noise is exhausting. I am trying to take steps to combat it.

was reading all the fruit chat with interest. I’m doing a lot of cardio now - running about 40/45km a week and cycling the same + weight training and one swim session. I’m using bananas, dates and energy gels to purposefully spike my sugar pre long runs. This doesn’t seem to have any impact on my hunger though. I don’t generally snack anymore (unless planned pre workout) but I don’t avoid any fruits and I don’t count my carbs. I think we need to remember that everyone’s circumstances are different and what is ideal for one person wouldn’t work for another - I think limiting carbs with the amount of cardio I do would be detrimental.

wondering if anyone else on here is taking creatine? I’ve been convinced by the science and bought a tub but I’m too scared to take it as I’ve read it can lead to water retention / bloating - I’m still feeling quite fragile about my weight and not sure I could cope with the numbers going up!

FurForksSake · 23/01/2026 12:07

@Incognitoburrito88 I take creatine every day, I love it. Not noticed any bloating or water retention.

Fluffypiece · 23/01/2026 12:38

@Incognitoburrito88 i take 10mg per day in 2 doses to help counter the effects of chronic insomnia on my poor brain. I don’t notice any issues wit bloating or water retention 👍🏼

MargoLivebetter · 23/01/2026 12:43

@Incognitoburrito88 good to see you again. I take creatine too, 3mg daily with no bloating or water retention. Really sorry to hear about the food noise and huge sympathy. It is so brain consuming and exhausting. Have you thought about doing a half dose of MJ weekly, instead of 2.5 bi-weekly?

@Placestogo good news about that 0.5kg 😊.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2026 13:32

@Fluffypiece No as I don’t weigh daily as would do my head in

well done @MummyInTheNecropolis for sts

well done @FurForksSake- I could lose another 2s and have bmi 18.5/19 bit would be far too low for me and I would look awful

Well done @MJMabel

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2026 13:34

ive lost 2lbs and back in my low end of weight I went to be

obv 5 is going to be the one

i was nicely maintaining on that before /over Xmas so hopefully will plod on as usual on 5

wish I could be on 2.5 but I can’t

FurForksSake · 23/01/2026 13:37

@Blondeshavemorefun you can’t yet. That might change. Give it a few months and try it again, or try going down one click a week?

MargoLivebetter · 23/01/2026 14:38

@Blondeshavemorefun glad to hear that you've lost the 2lb and feel more settled again on the 5 dose. As Forks says, it may not be for ever. None of us really knows yet.

First call technology didn’t work but they got me another consultant within 40 mins.
Really good chat and I've submitted an order to taper down 🤞

MJMabel · 23/01/2026 17:28

That’s brilliant @Merlin23so pleased for you!!

tinyemmy · 23/01/2026 17:36

Just checking in. I'm a daily weigher but it's not helping at the moment. I'm counting calories and feel like I really should have lost weight but the scales are staying the same. I put on about 3lbs during December when I was on 2.5mg ok mj and I've put on another 2lbs in the last 5 weeks since I came off it. I'm going to stick to the calorie counting and hope that my weight comes down again. To be fair if it doesn't go up I'm in a good place but I would prefer to get down to where I was in the summer. I'm keeping a close eye.
I definitely had one day of f#&_ it after a bad weigh but have given myself a talking to since then so hopefully that won't happen again!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2026 17:57

TMI but I’m in need of more fibre apparently - iron tablets not helping me either lol
ive ordered some fibre granules
how many teaspoons do I add to my cuppa /water ?

Placestogo · 25/01/2026 19:10

Iron tablets are the worst for constipation. Flaxseed doesnt do it for me so i take one or two psylum husk capsules when in need - i have used seneka as well 1 tablet usually, 2 if really desperate- good luck

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2026 19:16

I’ve been on iron tablets for over 6mths as have very low iron

was taking lactulose and worked fine but I really can’t stand the sweetness of it anymore as having 20ml daily

FurForksSake · 25/01/2026 19:36

Is movicol an option if the natural options don’t work? I think it’s a bit less sweet.

OneThirdLess · 25/01/2026 20:23

When I need extra fibre I add psyllium husk powder (I buy the Bulk one from Amazon) to a raspberry smoothie. Another option is to stir into yoghurt. You can also just buy the capsules but I like being able to vary the amount. Just make sure you drink a big glass of water with it, however you take it - psyllium needs water to work.

Hope you find some relief soon @Blondeshavemorefun!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2026 20:55

FurForksSake · 25/01/2026 19:36

Is movicol an option if the natural options don’t work? I think it’s a bit less sweet.

I’ve had children and friends use it a and doesn’t seem as good and takes it time and 4/6 sachets later may get results

where a glug of lactulose works

wouldn’t hurt to have more fibre in diet have the powder

so how many teaspoons do I put in

OneThirdLess · 25/01/2026 21:09

Have you got psyllium, @Blondeshavemorefun? If so - no more than a teaspoon to start with, in a big glass of water and see how it goes. 🤞💩
