Taking a week off?

cobblers00 · 10/12/2025 08:41

I’ve been on mj for 2 wks, going ok-a few mild side effects. I have a big weekend away & know it’ll involve lots of drinking & eating…. But I know already if I even slightly overeat or don’t eat super clean I feel sick & I’ve not drunk on it yet..I want to enjoy the weekend though - would it be ok to just skip a week at this stage so there’s minimal medication in my system?

I mean, yes it would be ok in that you're on the lowest dose so stopping and then starting again is pretty much the same as when you first started.

Personally I wouldn't, I would work out how to enjoy a weekend away without over eating, it is possible!

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 10/12/2025 08:47

You can skip a week, but you need to be aware that Mounjaro has a half life of 5 days and it takes around 30 days to be completely out if your system.

so if you have taken 2 weeks and skip week 3, you’ll still have some in your system and may still have reduced appetite and potentially still have side effects from over eating.

Schoolregret · 10/12/2025 08:50

I am currently on mounjaro 7.5mg and I am taking a 1 week break for Christmas. I was previously on ozempic and did at times take a break from it for sometimes 4 to 6 weeks as the side effects were too much.

Also if you are on the lowest dose it might be worth changing your injection day. I always inject on Sunday night so if I do fancy an alcoholic drink at the weekend I can.

Ineedanewsofa · 10/12/2025 08:53

Stick with it, let it do what your paying (a lot of money) for! You probably won’t be able to eat and drink as much as you could before, especially this early on in taking it, but isn’t that the point? Sorry to sound harsh but for it to be effective you do need to accept you’ll be eating differently for the rest of your life.
It’s super unlikely it’ll make you feel really ill even if you do go a bit over board

Mum2Fergus · 10/12/2025 08:56

You could skip a week…but doing so just to eat and drink kinda defeats the whole purpose of WLI.

Chopsy123 · 10/12/2025 09:15

Yes, you can do that, but why do you want to?

Is this weekend a once a year blow out or a bit more frequently than that?

In your shoes, I’d be using this as an opportunity to re-evaluate how I approach these sorts of events in the future as presumably you’re using MJ to help reduce your weight and change your longer term habits that got you seriously overweight in the first place?

No judgement from me as I’m on the September 25 MJ starters thread and unhappily obese. However, several of our group have had to tackle similar events and managed to survive them with a few tweaks and have now got the confidence to be able to attend these sorts of events in the future without losing their heads to excessive consumption of food and drink and still remain sociable and have fun. It’s do-able and maybe worth considering?

BoxingHares22 · 10/12/2025 09:34

I have a holiday abroad for a week in Feb . How can I travel and keep the pen cold? I don’t know if there will be a fridge on the hotel room. I haven’t started yet so don’t know how it will work.

Ineedanewsofa · 10/12/2025 09:38

@BoxingHares22 how long are you going for? I didn’t take mine with me when I went for a week, you can delay by 2-3 days without issue so I did that and jabbed when I got back.

SilenceInside · 10/12/2025 09:40

@BoxingHares22 an open in-use pen can be kept at room temp (less than 30deg) so you wouldn’t need to refrigerate it. But for a week away I wouldn’t take it with me and just adjust the day that you inject to accommodate it.

cobblers00 · 10/12/2025 10:07

its a once a year blow out.. I rarely drink apart from with this group of friends & tbh (for good or for ill) the whole weekend revolves around it. It’s my chance to pretend I’m 25 again 🤣
it would be great to hear from those who have done this & the pros & cons so I can weigh it up. Thanks!

It’s the excessive drinking I’m more concerned about

OP posts:
Frenchfrychic · 10/12/2025 10:27

I’d not and I didn’t, I see this as a lifetime change, you can still drink, just the drug will stop you going to excess. I think you’re maybe still in the old mindset of eating and drinking to excess as being key to having fun.

and there is always a reason, next up Xmas, then new year, then birthdays, then occasional nights out. And if you just stop every time you want to go for it you’re never going to learn new habits.

Julesni77 · 10/12/2025 10:40

I have been on MJ for a year and had celebrations and never stopped jabbing - you will not be able to over consume alcohol but I have had a few blow outs in the last year and the worst that happened was a bad hangover intersperse your alcohol with soft drinks and enjoy yourself

WildLeader · 10/12/2025 10:52

You took this enormous decision to tackle your weight, which you know is long overdue

you’ve invested a decent chunk of your money too.

and you’re considering taking a week off already? I’ve never understood those who undermine themselves in such a way.

don’t be daft. This is your health and well being. One of the reasons you’re in this situation is because of your “blow outs”

don’t skip doses. Maybe delay the dose by a day or so, so it’s not immediately before going out.

you made this commitment to yourself, dont undermine it at literally the first step.

this time next year you won’t recognise yourself and in fact you’ll wonder what on earth kept you from doing it sooner. Why not exercise a bit of self restraint and pace yourself better this year, you can still have fun, but you don’t need to go to excess

is this about not wanting anyone to know? Tbh, fuck that, everyone thinks that everyone is on it now anyway, and if any comments, tell them to mind their own. You’re obese, you need not to be.

im 17m into this process 101kg down to 65. I’ve been on loads of holidays, loads of trips, big parties, and even a bit of a bender In Orlando. Never skipped a dose, and as long as I didn’t eat rubbish, I felt good

there is nothing on earth that I’d allow to have get in the way. I can’t tell you how much better I feel about myself, and how great I look ☺️

i want this for you too. Don’t sabotage yourself

SexyFrenchDepression · 10/12/2025 10:55

I cant say about excessive drinking as I have avoided that whilst on the jabs as I dont want to put on weight/not lose. I have had up to 4 drinks when I've been out and also havent felt like I've missed out on food as I havent been hungry, just picked something relatively decent from the menu and eaten what I can manage. It would have been awful had I not been on the jabs as I would have felt like I was missing out definitely and probably would end up eating a load of crap and drinking too much.

For xmas day I will take my jab later in the day so I dont feel rubbish that day or the next.

PearlTeapot · 10/12/2025 11:10

First post nailed it.

Work out how to have fun without overindulging!

You’re jumping to a lot of conclusions about me…I'm not in ‘this situation because of my blowouts’ - I don’t have blowouts.. this is my literal once a year weekend away with the girls! They all know I’m taking it. I just want to let my hair down without fear of making myself sick for one weekend. Any other social events that crop up I’m delighted to have the support of the medication to keep me on the right track.

How ridiculous. Why on earth would you start MJ if you knew you were having a potential blowout 2 weeks later? That’s just crazy.

Exactly, that's why I waited until October to start as I was on holiday in September. I couldn't wait to get started but wanted the full benefit of it and give it my total commitment when I did start. I'm actually looking forward to Christmas and not over indulging knowing I won't put any weight on over the festive period like I normally do. This is a complete lifestyle overhaul for me and not something I'm going to row back on.

Just a week

Annebowlyn · 10/12/2025 11:57

I mean, obviously you can stop and start as much as you want it's your decision, but I'm afraid I'm with others in that if you really want to crack on with this you have to be prepared to change your ways. I personally wouldn't have started until after Christmas knowing I'd got events and 'blowout s' planned, it's a waste of time and money to want to keep chopping and changing, I have lost nearly 5 stone and the hardest part was changing my habits round others, it holds a mirror up to others over consumption..... And they don't like it.

Thanks all.. but I was really asking for experiences not permission or judgment!

The thing is you will find people who stopped so they could eat and drink as much as before, but mainly you will find people who thid was a very serious commitment for, not just in terms of money, but their health, their appearance.

so doing a couple of weeks, stopping so you can eat and drink to excess, starting again, was never on the agenda for many.

as we all know being obese is horrendous for most of us. Very few want it. And most tried everything for years not to be obese. And to find that miracle, where we can become healthy, slim, like our appearance again, is something we are 100 percent committed to putting the effort in for.

and I’ve been in maintenance now for several months, yes the weight loss phase was hard, no I couldn’t do as I always did, but I could go and join in, but I couldn’t eat and drink like I used to, as that’s what made me fat in the first place. Death by a thousand cuts. but I could eat and drink. Just not as much. Now it’s just normal for me, and after years of feeling shit, hiding my body, it is absolutely lovely to be fit and healthy again, to be maintaining, to be enjoying clothes, to like my appearance.

its a difficult journey to get here, there is always a reason to break it, always, it’s never once a year, so people are going to respond with their experience, it’s a public forum, you can’t dictate what responses are permitted as you don’t like the ones you got.

SexyFrenchDepression · 10/12/2025 13:02

I would definitely consider pushing the jabs back a day or forward a day or two if you think you will have severe side effects. I am monitoring what happens over next couple of jabs to make a decision about xmas day.
