Taking a week off?

I’ve been on mj for 2 wks, going ok-a few mild side effects. I have a big weekend away & know it’ll involve lots of drinking & eating…. But I know already if I even slightly overeat or don’t eat super clean I feel sick & I’ve not drunk on it yet..I want to enjoy the weekend though - would it be ok to just skip a week at this stage so there’s minimal medication in my system?

The thing is you will find people who stopped so they could eat and drink as much as before, but mainly you will find people who thid was a very serious commitment for, not just in terms of money, but their health, their appearance.

so doing a couple of weeks, stopping so you can eat and drink to excess, starting again, was never on the agenda for many.

as we all know being obese is horrendous for most of us. Very few want it. And most tried everything for years not to be obese. And to find that miracle, where we can become healthy, slim, like our appearance again, is something we are 100 percent committed to putting the effort in for.

and I’ve been in maintenance now for several months, yes the weight loss phase was hard, no I couldn’t do as I always did, but I could go and join in, but I couldn’t eat and drink like I used to, as that’s what made me fat in the first place. Death by a thousand cuts. but I could eat and drink. Just not as much. Now it’s just normal for me, and after years of feeling shit, hiding my body, it is absolutely lovely to be fit and healthy again, to be maintaining, to be enjoying clothes, to like my appearance.

its a difficult journey to get here, there is always a reason to break it, always, it’s never once a year, so people are going to respond with their experience, it’s a public forum, you can’t dictate what responses are permitted as you don’t like the ones you got.

I get that & it’s a fair point. Guess I didn’t expect so much anger towards a simple question! But I appreciate there’s a lot of emotion tied up with everyone’s journeys & experiences. I’ve found all other questions I’ve put out on the subject matter so supportive.

I didn’t see any anger to be honest, never mind a lot of it.

I’m thinking of taking a week off for other reasons.

Interested does anyone know what we do in terms of the meds and if we are ok/ safe to skip a week and remain on the same dose or should we dose down at the next jab? If so how much lower should we go and for how long before returning to usual dose?

I’ve got this flu going round and feeling total rubbish. It’s on top of pre existing lt health conditions and the meds unfortunately add to fatigue symptoms and can trigger diarrhoea and with the flu I can’t face taking the hit this week.
Been on wli over a year.

SilenceInside · 10/12/2025 13:59

@SwitchingUpWLI it's all in the paper patient information leaflet that comes with the pen. It says

"If it’s been 4 days or less since you should have used Mounjaro:

• Use it as soon as you remember
• Then inject your next dose as usual on your scheduled day

If it’s been more than 4 days since you should have used Mounjaro:

• Skip the missed dose
• Then inject your next dose as usual on your scheduled day"

It's on page 19.

SwitchingUpWLI · 10/12/2025 14:14

Thanks @SilenceInside so that sounds like we don’t have to drop the dose at all then, just take our usual - will find the paper leaflet x

@cobblers00 I'll give you some actual experience of missing a week if you like? You may not find missing a week makes much of a difference at all, depending on how good a response you've had to the drug. I skipped the occasional week when I was losing because I had massive suppression and at times a lot of sickness despite eating well, and I just wanted to not feel physically sick for some life events.

Skipping a week worked well for keeping my nausea under control but it had very little impact on how much I could eat and I have never found alcohol and Mounjaro a good combination. So if you are hoping skipping a week will leave you free to booze away you may be disappointed. Do you usually feel it wearing off at the end of a week or is your response pretty constant?

cobblers00 · 10/12/2025 16:09

This is really helpful. Thank you. I find it wears off a little by the end of the week but I’m not ravenous by any means! I’m more concerned that I’ll drink a little too much & be sick as a dog.. I’ve not drunk on it at all yet & as I rarely do drink, I would still quite like the ability to indulge every now and again.. I guess it’s just bad timing but I was keen to not keep putting it off & happy to have a different festive experience to the usual gluttony.. except for this one previous weekend with my long distance pals! Oh well, I’ll see how it goes but think I’ve decided to just delay the jab by a few days rather than miss a whole week.

Appreciate the real life experience as well, thanks for giving your perspective @KeepUndercover

That’s a better idea. Not the best, but definetly better than the last one, starting again so soon, having full hunger return and spending a week regaining anything you lost. Is just such a waste of effort and money,

No problem. The meds stay in your system for a good while so the idea that you miss a dose and immediately gain back everything just isn't my experience and, having been doing this a long time now so seeing a lot of people post over the time, I don't think it happens for most people. I have definitely found it helpful in the past to either miss a week or have a longer break between doses. And I somehow still lost 60kg and appear to be keeping it off so far.

That’s brilliant @KeepUndercover! Well done on the 60kg off and that you did it with the occasional break. Are you at target now or got more to go?

I could really do with a break jabbing this week until am out the other side of flu, don’t need any extra fatigue and loose tum. Reading your experience has given me more confidence in having a break without it having a big negative knock-on effect with onward progress. Also been at this a while (just over a year now). Thanks again x

KeepUndercover · 10/12/2025 17:57

@SwitchingUpWLI I'm at target, I've been maintaining since July, reducing doses, going a bit longer between doses. Maintaining takes a lot of work. I started March 2024 so it was a long time down to goal, but I had a lot to lose.

maz99 · 10/12/2025 22:30

I agree with the comments about wasting your money by having a break so soon, because you're expected to have a dose every week so that it builds up in your system.

But I will say I did drink 3 double G&Ts in my 2nd week of being on the jab and had no side effects - I didn't have a break.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/12/2025 22:32

cobblers00 · 10/12/2025 10:08

It’s the excessive drinking I’m more concerned about

Well don't then!
There's no need to drink.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 10/12/2025 22:37

I don’t drink but my friends and sibling who do have said even when they didn’t have their jab drinking on MJ made them sicker than a dog. My sibling didn’t eat from Friday evening to Monday night because she was sitting vomiting into a toilet.

I can eat whatever I want without feeling sick on 7.5mg though. Don’t know why I seem to be different from others but if I wanted to I could eat like a pig… I just don’t want to.

No, but the ops only done it for two weeks and looking to stop already so she likely will just regain anything she’s lost, as she’s off on a blow out weekend,

very different to those been on it much longer and lost significant weight,

twilightcafe · 11/12/2025 07:59

You can still enjoy food and drink on WLI - you just can't consume as much.

SexyFrenchDepression · 11/12/2025 08:11

@cobblers00 so I just checked my Shotsy app, my levels were around 0.9mg at end of week 1 and 1.3mg end of week 2 at the lowest, then if you have no jab they drop by around 0.2mg per day. So if you have taken a 3rd jab then your levels wld be around 1.5mg so a few days off wouldn't be too bad. A week off this early would mean levels would be next to nothing by a week to 10 days I guess.

coolcahuna · 11/12/2025 08:16

Stay on it but just don't go wild. The whole point is to be consistent with it

cobblers00 · 11/12/2025 08:59

I surely wouldn’t put on 3.5kg in 1 weekend?! My idea of a blue out might be different to yours I guess. Mainly a few more drinks than would normally be consumed… Anyway, I’ve made my decision! This thread has been enlightening..

A lot of the weight you will have lost will be water weight so yes it is likely it will all come back on with booze etc, and originally it was a week.

You you could... alcohol definitely causes inflammation and so can certain foods.

I’d take the opportunity to not pig out!
im not on WLI but my friend is drinking as usual with no ill effects.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 11/12/2025 12:07

I’ve reduced but not cut out drinking. So, instead of pints of beer I mostly have a single g&t, and where I used to easily sink 1/2 a bottle of wine (or more) I have 1 or two small glasses…

I haven’t had any ill effects and it’s a significant drop in calories as well so all good.

For me, I’m trying to say nothing is off limits or banned, but I will improve habits for the long term and hopefully it will stick.
