TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 29/11/2025 12:34

Well, some of us are new, some of us are nearly at our goal weight and the rest are still in the trenches.

Everyone is welcome here. This is a safe and supportive space for people with a lot of weight to lose.

I’m not worried about Christmas as the ongoing acid reflux and associated pain mean I’m not eating much. I finally had the gastroscopy appt through - my GP wouldn’t prescribe any meds till I had this done but have been waiting about 6 weeks in quite a lot of discomfort. I’ve cut out everything - alcohol, caffeinated coffee, anything remotely spicy, anything citrusy - and am not happy with the level of nutrients I’m able to consume. But still in daily pain with the 40 mg esomeprazole I’m taking over the counter (anlthough that’s double the standard dose) and endless gaviscon etc.

Anyway, I got a cancellation so it’s tomorrow, hoping it will give some answers and something to help. I am really not looking forward to the procedure itself but am also quite worried they will tell me to stop the Mounjaro…. I am 2lb away from 5 stone loss now but need to lose at least the same again. Fingers crossed for a good outcome!

Have you got Gaviscon Advance? That’s the real stuff - I had it recommended for my reflux and it does the job way better than the usual stuff.

Yes, I take that at night and the double action in the day. Plus the chewy ones. They don’t help at all sometimes though, not even briefly, so maybe it isn’t acid reflux at all…. But it doesn’t fit anything else, it’s a burning pain at the top of my stomach that goes up my oesophagus.

Hoping for some answers tomorrow!

I haven’t lost anything for 3 days which is a bit demoralising but I had a really good start. I think it probably hasn’t helped I don’t seem to be going to the bathroom a lot - are there any mild laxatives anyone could recommend?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 17/12/2025 19:38

Are you drinking enough @user593? I suffer terribly with constipation and have done since the beginning even though I drink 3 litres a day, some people swear by kiwis and dried prunes. Sometimes it’s trial and error to find out what works for you.
I take Movicol now, and top up with senokot or a cheap laxative from Amazon, but remember that your absorption of laxatives is slowed down so they will take longer to work.
when things get really bad I use glycerine suppositories!

I’ve been really upping my water intake the last few days and it doesn’t seem to have helped. I might try fruit - thank you!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 17/12/2025 20:42

Wow, I have one busy day with no time to go on MN and there have been so many posts!!! Thanks to everyone who commented about Xmas jabbing, I don't know why I was so nervous about it, maybe just because I ate a bit too much on Sunday and felt out of control and it worried me. But I've realised today that actually I do have good suppression in that I can't eat loads, and although I do have some mild food noise it's easy to ignore with only a tiny morsel of willpower, so I think I will be ok sticking with my normal regime. I just need to avoid the 'nibbles' as those are my downfall!

PearlTeapot · 17/12/2025 21:46

Please someone answer me about side effects… do they pass? Should I push it or reduce again?

PearlTeapot · 17/12/2025 21:48

Oh and constipation is the bane of my life. And my new antipsychotic side effects… constipation. I can’t swallow the movicol or the other stuff so drink tons of coffee (too much) and pray 🙏 😳🤦🏻‍♀️

I haven't really had much in the way of side effects, mostly a bit of nausea or constipation when first starting or when I went up a dose. But yes, they have lessened over time as my body adjusts. For the sulphur burps, have you tried peppermint water?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/12/2025 21:59

I found that any side-effects I had were only evident at the start of each higher dose, and they wore off after a few days.

I did always treat them immediately with things like loperamide, or senna, or cyclizine.

So in your case, I'd stay on 3mg and ask the staff for medication to help you get through.

They gave me Pepto Bismol (great) and rennies (do nothing).

Tomorrow I need to face the embarrassment of asking for help with constipation. As it’s day 3 of my period and still no 💩 when usually I fully go for it! (Apologies for overshare)

Ask tonight!
There's no need to delay, and a full bowel won't be helping the sulphur burps.
The longer you leave it, the more treatment you'll need as the stools get harder and harder.

Hospitals like to give constipation medication at night anyway. If you ask for it tomorrow you may not be given it till the night-time medication round.

Thanks Broon. Unfortunately I can’t. The night doctor is a male and I’m currently unable to talk to men. I’m female only 😟 so will have to wait til tomorrow. I appreciate it though.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 17/12/2025 22:40

@PearlTeapot there is a stomach massage that you can try, I can’t remember if you lay down on your bed and massage your stomach clock wise or anti clockwise though, it might help relieve any pressure…
just googled it, massage clockwise

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/12/2025 22:49

It's clockwise, which is the way the large intestine goes round the body.
It's a good idea, and worth a try.

Weigh in and jab day.

SW 137kg BMI 53.5
CW 98.0kg BMI 38.3
GW 63kg BMI 24.6

15 stone 6lbs in old money. I can see that I have lost weight but can also see I have such a long way to go.

Thursday is my normal jab day so my plan is to jab next Wednesday. Christmas day is a bit different from the normal. Our Christmas meal is really lunch and dinner with a supper of cheese & pudding. If I jab on Wednesday then I will have good suppression on the day. I'm less likely to face plant into the Christmas chocolates.

The gym sessions are starting to revive previously dormant muscles. I'm never going to be lithe but it is good to feel like I'm moving again.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 18/12/2025 11:25

I've had a very careful few days and I've stuck to only eating between 4pm and 8pm.

After getting stuck for what seemed like weeks, I've had a whoosh.

I've lost another 2lb so that means I've lost 3lb this week, which is very unusual for me - generally, I've been losing about 2 - 3lb a month.

Anyway, I'm now 11st 7lb.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne excellent stuff! It is inspiring to see people getting down to their goal.

mamabeeboo · 18/12/2025 14:54

@GnomeDePlume Congratulations on getting started with exercise and finding some sort of routine with it. I applaud you for going to the gym (as someone who hates the gym and sticks to home workouts). Just aim for showing up, you're doing a great job. I didn't particularly enjoy exercise at the beginning and now I love it and do it 5-6 days a week, and feel strange when I have missed a workout.

@SilenceInside @Iwouldratherbesinging I read both of your posts regarding feeling different after losing a lot of weight and whilst I completely agree, I didn't expect life to be the same. 😂 I still go to work, still cook my food, still do the majority of things I've always done, albeit a bit more comfortably and in clothes 4 sizes too big. Perhaps I expected there to be a big ephiphany and life to be drastically different. Maybe it's because I still have a good 4 stone to go...I don't know. I think I need to put myself in a position to appreciate my weightloss a bit more - a trip to Thorpe park?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/12/2025 17:52

That’s brilliant @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne, a well deserved woosh!

@GnomeDePlume I also applaud you for the gym effort, I wish I could get motivated, I did have good intentions but I’m also very time poor. I do Pilates at home, back dog walking as we’ve fostered a dog who walks at 50mph! And I’m still using the resistance bands. Maybe when spring comes back around I’ll find some motivation….

@mamabeeboo, it’s only been the last couple of weeks that I’ve been pondering this, It’s more about the loss of the familiar ‘beating myself up’ feeling. My life is exactly the same but I am only now really appreciating the amount of weight I’ve lost and how calm things feel now, there will always be that niggling fear of regaining in the back of my mind though but I think that’s a natural thought. I’m also a little bit scared of reaching my goal…

Lds1 · 18/12/2025 18:12

Well done losers!!

@mamabeeboo a theme park sounds good!!I'm hoping to do something I've always wanted to do next year that I've always been too heavy for.

Lost 0.5kg / 1 lb and 1.6 oz this week, so now to see what the next couple of weeks bring!

SW: 142.8kg / 22 stone, 6 lb and 13.1 oz
CW: 73.2kg / 11 stone, 7 lb and 6.1 oz
BMI: 50.8 / 26
Total loss: 69.6kg / 10 stone, 13 lb and 7.1 oz
To get to healthy: 3.1kg / 6 lb and 13.3 oz

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 18/12/2025 18:25

With regard to exercise - the nearest gym and swimming pool are fifteen m miles away, and the bus service is dire.
Ex has got the car, of course.

So anyway, I bought one of these.
I can sit watching the telly, cycling away.
😂

These numbers are phenomenal!!! I can't imagine my scales starting with 7 anything!

I'm going to take a leaf from your book and put a couple of goals for next year:
-Thorpe Park and go on rides
-Diggerland with the kids and actually go on rides(I got turned away last time cos the seat belt didn't go around)
-book an activity based holiday like walking, hiking, skiing, 3 peaks or something
-take lots of photos and enjoy getting ready, doing hair, make up and taking more pride in my appearance
-put myself first

(I've just seen someone on Facebook complaining that she can't get the jabs because she's BMI 26 and feels so fat at 11stone so I'm logging off there for the night 😂)
