All work issues from now on, let's just circle back in January.

Thelittlestranger · 14/12/2025 21:18

I once popped 4 bottles of champagne in my Xmas shop as a hold, and forgot to take them out. Had to turn them away at the door...

Weighed heavy this weekend after my Xmas do on Friday night. I drank and snacked. I also have only done 3 lots of exercise last week as too much on. As well as being due on. So, reined it in a little today, and shall aim to be mindful this week ahead of Xmas starting in earnest.

Work can do one this week. I have 3 days of it, and I am so switched off already.

Jins · 15/12/2025 05:55

Everything has calmed down in the Jins household and we had a delicious meal cooked by DS2 last night. I also took one for the team and tested the baileys ice cream with an individual GF Xmas pud. Bloody gorgeous!

The motorbike that caused the eruption was probably a good thing. It’s not quite as random as it sounds, he’s had motorbikes since he was 17 but 5 years ago decided his time on 2 wheels was up and sold them. The one he was off to buy was a scrambler for off-roading. It was cheap, the money wasn’t the issue. It was the whole mid life crisis thing coming at a time when Xmas is looming and we can’t really move in the kitchen. I don’t lose my rag often at all but yesterday I did.

Today I’m braving the city centre with DS2. Dreading it but a visit to the cheese shop is needed and he’s going to help with the Tesco shop. Then it’s back home to make some huge bows out of some sparkly red voile fabric someone left on my step last night. I often get fabric donations, usually very random.

Hope everyone’s work week calms down. It seems to be worse this year than it’s ever been.

HeidiLite · 15/12/2025 06:02

DH had a motorbike when we met. He occasionally makes noises about getting one again. I said not before kids are 18. So as mid-life crisis activity, he decided to take up freediving instead as something to kill himself with. 😁

Damage over this weekend - plus 1 kilo. Should not be too hard to get rid of it.

myladyjane · 15/12/2025 07:33

Dd1 is desperate to get a motorbike (she’s 16 in a couple of weeks). Dh encourages her as he always wanted one but it scares the life out of me. I hope by the times she’s old enough she will have gone if the idea tbh.

so jabbing yesterday was a dreadful mistake. Well, it could be a few things (jabbing, I swapped my hrt patch last night, this flu or a combination) but I was up puking my guts up at 2 this morning. On the plus side I have stopped coughing so much and I slept well after but I am done. I feel weak exhausted and a bit of a mess tbh.

I can’t not work today, I have an early call with a hideous nasty client (thankfully with my boss who will do the majority of the work) . Two of my closest friends who are my normal ‘cover’ are also stressed and ill. My nice client is going through a huge restructuring. I’m behind as it is. But I’m genuinely not sure how I’ll manage. It will be ok once I get cracking, it always is but I’m dreading it

tinyemmy · 15/12/2025 07:36

Morning! Saga with bad Get a Drip pen continues... I ended up with a pen where the black plunger was disconnected from the grey plunger and half the liquid was missing. I ended up taking the equivalent of a 5 out via a syringe whilst waiting. Get a drip never came back to me, their FAQs say to contact Eli Lilly who I'm now waiting to pick up the pen although not sure about the extra missing dose now. Thankfully the golden dose is discarded with hubby is still available so jabbed that this morning as Pharmulous pen not due until 7 Jan (as I had loads of medication left!!) hopefully eventually they will replace the pen. Hubby has a spare pen so worst case I will borrow that.
I was toying with stopping, but scales are going in the wrong direction for that so I will wait for ADHD appointment on 23rd to make the decision there.
I hope everyone is having a lovely build up to Christmas. I still feel so unorganised, I will do some wrapping tonight and see what's missing and which of my children I need to equal up!

I had a full motorbike licence aged 21 but by mid-twenties had stopped. My driving is so bad I'd do terribly on a bike these days. I also say I'm not road safe on a push bike 😁

Jins · 15/12/2025 08:02

I had a motorbike myself when I was 19 but I got very fearful and got rid of it when I was 23. Haven’t ridden one since but I used to ride pillion a lot. He’s just got FOMO because a couple of his friends’ midlife crises have presented with scrambler bike purchases. I always used to laugh about the male midlife crisis purchases but it turns out it is a thing after all. In our extended group of friends we’ve seen lots of sports cars, fancy bicycles, kayaks and similar stuff appearing. Sadly two have had affairs and destroyed their families and one has transitioned and is now swanning round in leather mini skirts and fishnet tights. S/He’s won!

I’m a bit old for a mid-life crisis now unless I live to 120 so I guess I’ve missed my opportunity.

myladyjane · 15/12/2025 08:25

My husbands mid life crisis is regressing to his teen years again re gaming. He’s always been a gamer but he has a bunch of online mates and they ‘raid’ and go on missions. My daughter’s boyfriend is also a gamer but he is nowhere near as bad. I may have got a bit fishwife the other day when he was too busy gaming to get dd1 after a party (to be fair to him here, she didn’t tell him, expected him to drop everything and he do t really want her to go to the party as it was with ‘a boy’ he didnt like). But honestly.

2025istheyeari · 15/12/2025 08:45

Catching up after a busy weekend!

@myladyjaneblimey, sounds as though you have had it bad, hope you feel better soon and you can do the meeting with awful client who has suddenly had the magic of Christmas injected and is a delight, and then go back to bed.

@PenelopesProteinPackedPartyhope no lasting damage after your fall, before my eye diagnosis I regularly fell off kerbs and steps, and did no end of damage, so I literally feel your pain. Hope you’re having a brilliant break!

Well done on losses/ maintaining everyone, this is a tough time of year food and drink wise! Don’t beat your self up @Thelittlestrangerand @HeidiLite it’ll go soon.

@BreezyPeerhope your weekend away was amazing!

I’m kind of maintaining here, have given up on getting to 6 stone by my holiday but that’s ok! Well within my weight range at 10 8 and off on holiday on Wednesday night so not going to worry! Will be sensible but have things when I fancy them and deal with it when I get back! I don’t drink much anymore but may have the odd fruit based cocktail I think.

Laughing at the online shop incidents, I’ve done the same, and my mum has a recurring issue with Ocado ( hers not theirs) where she has 5kg of potatoes in her trolley and keeps forgetting. She lives by herself so that’s a lot of potatoes 🤣.

Wrapping here today and long walk with a friend. Leaving job search until after Christmas now I think!!

Have a great day losers.

Polkadotdash · 15/12/2025 09:12

It’s interesting about men and their mid life crises. I think it’s linked to testosterone and risk taking. There’s something in blokes that pushes them to take risks in order to feel alive. I see it with my DH. We are going through a tricky time at the moment as a result of some of his risk taking. It’s not much fun 😔 It seems bonkers to me, but then I am very risk averse. The comedian Jim Eoin does a great routine about men watching documentaries about war, climbing mountains, going into space etc and makes a joke about a bloke identifying with the main characters saying ‘I’d rather be half dead on the side of that mountain with those fellas than half alive on the sofa’

I’m off to see my friend today who had the open heart surgery two weeks ago. She’s now home after two weeks in hospital and doing well. Her positivity and tenacity are keeping things in perspective for me. By comparison, my problems are transitory. She’s a trooper.

HeidiLite · 15/12/2025 09:21

@Jins wow full on transitioning is another level of mid-life crisis!

I think actually MJ is mine - I am literally in the best shape of my life and keep buying smaller and smaller gym outfits to show off. By summer, I will be one of those women they make TikToks about and complain that can't people working out just put some clothes on 😂

HeidiLite · 15/12/2025 09:47

@Polkadotdash it's quite funny how mid life affects men and women. Men indeed go for 'feeling alive', meaning doing stupid things fit for teenagers.

Pre- or full menopausal women seem to lose the 'nice girl pleasing everyone' and just don't give a tiny rat's arse any more if we are super liked by everybody.

Zempy · 15/12/2025 10:38

I have the lurgy! Raging hot, headache, sore throat and snotty.

Had to call in sick as I can’t face getting dressed or going anywhere. Feel really guilty as my calendar is packed and my lovely boss will have to cover me.

Still in bed. Can’t face food. I think my eyeballs have been boiled.

HeidiLite · 15/12/2025 11:33

Sorry @Zempy
over here school just emailed that flu is going around, half the teachers off sick. So much fun if kids will get it now - wouldn't be able to fly to see my parents then for Xmas, dad is not in good health so we definitely can't risk infecting him with anything.

Polkadotdash · 15/12/2025 14:22

Oh @Zempy another falls to the winter lurgy. Take the drugs and rest. It sounds rough.

CurlsandCurves · 15/12/2025 14:35

We are a motorbike household. DH has always ridden, first off-roading as a kid then got his licence not long after we met. His dad and grandad always had motorbikes, so it was kind of inevitable really. He’s currently got 2. DS1 has an off-roader that he uses on his friends farmland. He’s not made any noises about getting a road licence. Yet.

@Zempysorry to hear you’re ill. DH is struggling too with the same sort of thing. I do not want it.

My stomach is still very sensitive after being ill. I’m finding I have to be so careful, not eat too much in one go and keep things very plain. Let’s just say lamb chops on Saturday night we’re not a good idea. I split dosed my 12.5 last week and I think I’ll do the same this week, the thought of taking it all at once feels like too much.

myladyjane · 15/12/2025 17:59

oh @Zempy rest and drink rest and drink.

my horrid client was actually ok. I did work all day as my in box was a bin fire and I got annoyed by everyone saying ‘oh log off but just do this urgent thing first’. I managed ok tbh and tomorrow I have an easier calendar so I can try and catch up a bit. I did literally forget to eat all day which is less good.

DGonMJ · 15/12/2025 20:45

@Zempy hope your eyeballs have cooled down and you’re not feeling too bad.

I still have DOMS in my lats from doing band-assisted pull ups on Saturday. I hope that means my muscles are growing.

Still with the high appetite suppression here, on the bonus dose. Couldn’t face much of breakfast and struggled to eat lunch which was a work event. However, I did manage eat all my dinner.

DH’s first order is on its way. Found a discount code for Pharmulous £10 off with DEC10. He already eats so healthily (exact same as I do except gluten free), I’m really hoping this sorts out his inflammation.

PenelopesProteinPackedParty · 16/12/2025 05:04

Morning everyone, sorry to hear that people are poorly. @Zempy I absolutely hate that eyes on fire feeling. I hope you feel better soon.

I seem to be 7lbs heavier than when I left, I know that can’t be fat after nine days away and 8 miles of walking most days. 😕

I had my first bit of roast turkey yesterday, in flight roast lunch! It was actually really nice, gorgeous spiced red cabbage and what seemed like a huge portion, too much food. Not sure I would have thought that about a BA lunch pre MJ. I don’t cook Xmas lunch as we’re never at home but I really love roast turkey.

I’ve now been awake for ages so might just get up and start on the laundry after 💉 7.5mg.

Have a good day losers.

Jins · 16/12/2025 07:53

I’m dreading catching whatever it is that some of you have caught. Sometimes I’m glad to be an introvert that hates leaving my house 🤣

Xmas food shop tackled yesterday and ticked off. All that’s left to get is veg and dairy which can wait for DS2s last day in work before Xmas at which point there will be yellow stickered items galore. I’m pretty pleased with myself though as yesterday’s trolley included a frozen turkey, a big ham, millions of sausages, bacon, Yule logs and various mr Kipling treats and came to £63 after clubcard and colleague discounts were applied. Giving staff 20% off at this time of year is very helpful.

@HeidiLite the full on transitioning in a 57 year old man with a wife and 3 adult sons has left such a trail of destruction that it’s hard to believe it’s happened. I messaged my friend (wife) when the FB reveal happened to say ‘sorry mate, you must be cringing yourself inside out with that profile pic’ and it unleashed an absolute torrent of misery and hurt, far more than a red sports car or trip to Thailand ever could.

Speedy recovery to our fallen comrades, keep on keeping on to our walking wounded.

Polkadotdash · 16/12/2025 08:38

First child has woken up with lurgy. The bugs are coming for our house now! No!

And on the menopausal rage thing - this is why I don’t think I’ve hit menopause yet, despite being 51 and now only having one ovary. I’m very rarely filled with rage. I’m tired and fed up, but not angry. I don’t think I ever had much testosterone though. I’m not competitive, I’ve got no muscles, I’m not very hairy and my get up and go got up and went years ago 😆 And I’ve definitely not got the ‘I don’t care what people think’ thing going on. I’m as much of a people pleaser as I ever was.

Jins · 16/12/2025 09:17

Yeah I didn’t get ragey during menopause. If anything I calmed down. I’ve never really cared what people think although I did occasionally feel hurt, now I don’t.

I have everything crossed that the lurgy misses our house but with DS2 and DH working in close proximity to people we rarely escape.

2025istheyeari · 16/12/2025 09:29

Oh no, hope those lurgies disappear soon, it sounds grim. DS woke up with a sore throat this morning but hoping that’s as a result of him being out with friends last night and prob shouting a lot!!
@HeidiLitereally hope kids avoid so you can go and see your parents.

@Jinswhat a bargain shop! Great perk!

@PenelopesProteinPackedPartyi bet tomorrow you’ll have lost a fair few of those, I always retain water after flying.

I’m like you @Polkadotdashwith extra overthinking and worrying about other people, that didn’t change with menopause! Wish it had…

PenelopesProteinPackedParty · 16/12/2025 09:41

😑I'm just trying to work out what I will wear at Xmas, nothing fits terribly well and I don't really want to buy something that I will wear once. I've got a lovely silk dress from Jigsaw that I haven't worn yet but it is now a bit big. I'm not sure whether to alter it myself or take it to a local dressmaker in case I screw it up. Decisions, decisions.

Zempy · 16/12/2025 10:25

Feeling slightly better today.

I was RAGING throughout my forties when I guess I was peri. Since being post menopausal in my fifties, I do not give a fuck.

Tried on a skirt I was planning to wear on a night out, and it’s too bloody big. Better than everything being too small but it’s still weird isn’t it? I don’t think I look size 6/8. More like 10/12.
