New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All very welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Nothing is off topic and progress photos always welcome, encouraging us all to keep going!

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

Reread my previous posts. “in owe”🤣 where did that come from? No idea.

Re exercises for the back. In our previous house we had old fashion wall bars. Hanging with your back to the wall as a regular exercise helped enormously with back/neck/shoulders muscles. Not suggesting a home renovation project, but a pull up bar in the door frame would do the job too. I haven’t darkened the gym doors for eons so won’t know - it may be a standard fitness equipment😁

MooBaggage · 04/11/2025 16:35

Am sat in a cold car but wanted to post to say hello @SecondCircuit and it sounds like you're doing brilliantly! The all new body will be appearing very soon, I have no doubt 😀

I tell anyone and everyone - I'm an MJ evangelist! I'm too talkative and old to keep quiet and I really believe people should know how amazing this drug is - for all the added benefits besides the weight loss!

And eff me I've only gone and joined a sodding health club... 🙄It's about 10 mins away from me, isn't too posh but does have sauna and jacuzzi-type things in it, which was my main interest 😃

I now need gym clothes - WTF do people wear to the gym? And for classes??! My main thing will be swimming, but I want to do some weights and resistance stuff in the gym - just no clue what to wear...

I predict yet more money spent on Vinted....

Well done @MooBaggage ! I am very self conscious about my legs so I wear not tight M&S gymn trousers in black and a tshirt long enough to cover my bum for any gym activities. I make up for it with a raft of splendid Batoko swimming costumes with a wide variety of sea creatures on them. They aren't cheap (except at some point soon in November if you sign up they will let you know about their slight seconds sale which makes them half price) but they don't go saggy or transparent and best of all everyone says nice things every time I wear one. Who wouldn't smile at puffins or narwhals or the like, oh and they are elastic enough to hold any remaining wobbly bits in, not that I am sure you have any!! xx

gimmemounjaro · 04/11/2025 17:04

Vinted have a whole section called Activewear @MooBaggage so I would start there, couple of pairs of leggings and a couple of tops, either vests or t shirts. Clothing designed for sports will be more comfy than normal cotton or whatever. Maybe a hoody to stay cosy in afterwards. A decent sports bra and some proper trainers if you haven’t got those already and you’re good to go 🏋️‍♀️

SecondCircuit · 04/11/2025 18:42

@MooBaggage Thank you for a warm welcome and encouraging words.

As for the gym attire - not a clue. In the words of my MIL „I’m allergic to exercise my dear…” 😉

InfoSecInTheCity · 04/11/2025 18:57

I just wear shorts or joggers and a baggy T-shirt to the gym, I have loads of free cybersecurity T-shirts from conventions I go to and use those. Swimming I like the Slazenger boy short suits from Sport Direct, they’re about £15 each and cover up high and down to mid thigh.

Only thing I spend money on is a sports bra and tend to find M&S Goodmove ones the best fit, support and price.

dimples76 · 04/11/2025 20:11

I couldn't do without my Panache sports bras. I am still wearing the same clothes as I was at the start of my fitness/mj journey which do look ridiculously baggy now. I just wear baggy t-shirts and leggings mostly. I have only needed them a couple of times but I also wear incontinence knickers. It's a v alluring look -not!

Weigh in day for me and after a bit of a stall I have lost 1kg in the last week which takes me to just over 5 stones overall. Next target is getting under 15 stones - 2.5 pounds to go.

Recently lots more people have noticed my loss and I am v open with them about how I am doing it.

Slowrunning · 04/11/2025 21:45

I now own more sportswear than anything else 😂. I am a bit addicted to buying funny running T-shirts from Vinted.
I have some great sports leggings from Next that have really deep pockets for my phone etc - not that I really run fast enough for things to bounce out of pockets.

gimmemounjaro · 05/11/2025 08:14

Fellow low BP sufferers - I have started to monitor mine properly, morning and evening. Yesterday morning 117/64. Then I injected and the two readings since then have been 83/57 and 84/61. (I know it’s only one day but still, taking it as good news because hopefully if I can get off MJ things might improve and I can run again. Or of course I might have to choose between a normal BP and a healthy weight, but let’s not worry about that yet.)

I have also been reading up on coming off PPIs which does not sound like fun at all, so planning to reduce that very very slowly too. Currently taking it 5/7 days instead of every day and can already feel the difference 😬

UnimaginableWindBird · 05/11/2025 08:40

Hello @SecondCircuit. We are at fairly similar stages, I think. I started on MJ on 5th September and am on track to have lost 10% of my starting bodyweight in the next week or two.

My husband, children and a couple of friends know I'm taking Mounjaro. If it comes up in conversation, I mention it, but I'm not telling all and sunset and won't say anything to my parents unless they ask.

MooBaggage · 05/11/2025 09:59

Thanks for the gym wear advice! I have ordered a few things from Vinted... I don't currently own anything for my legs other than jeans/cords/a couple of skirts, so can't really do gym stuff until I get the leggings-type things I've ordered (what a shame....!), but I'm going to go for a swim on Friday and have a laze in the hot pool thing. Hurrah!

I'm then half thinking about having a go at either the yoga or pilates classes - eeeeeeeek..... This really really isn't me at all, but then I've never really had this body - or certainly never thought I might actually get to keep this kind of body. I've hit this BMI twice before in my life, but only for fleeting moments!

No weight loss this week, but it's my stall every other week week, so I'm OK with that!

Been to a physio recently who said I am developing a Dowagers hump, which by the way is quite possibly the worst name for a bent neck. So I have stretches and exercises to do and have been firmly told off for slumping at my desk. Anyone successfully found a way of relaxing the muscles in your neck/shoulders and getting rid of both the pain and the hump?

I do have a desk based job so spend about 10 hrs a day staring at my screen, and I do have the kind of job that brings stress, tension and a general feeling of ‘I hate people and their stupid inability to follow basic instruction and common sense’ so the job is working against me!

I found I was getting a lot of shoulder/neck pain at the top of my neck due to desk job and stress from the same inability for common sense from colleagues.

I found this really helped, alongside stretching etc. The heat helps the muscles relax (plus it's cosy). Look a bit nutty if anyone sees you, my partner thinks it's hilarious, but honestly did wonders.

Soo, I have gained 4lbs since surgery on Thursday. I am obviously not moving around as much and there may still be swelling but do we think this is actual weight or just a combination of factors? I haven’t been eating the best, but certainly not 4lbs of fat worth of eating crap! So frustrating. I feel like I haven’t even jabbed this week, I’m so hungry

MooBaggage · 05/11/2025 10:58

@alwaysscared I bet it will be inflammation - your body is probably reacting to the surgery. Hopefully it will reduce and settle down as you start to move a bit and feel better. Please don't stress - you know it can't be 4lbs of fat. I gained 2 - 3 lbs just after having a hysteroscopy and biopsy, from memory - and that was only with a spinal block and I was home the same day! Took a couple of weeks for it to go, but then was sorted.

Hope you're feeling OK xxx

OP posts:
gimmemounjaro · 05/11/2025 13:27

Definitely not actual weight @alwaysscared - hang in there and it will soon right itself 💪

GoingDownDown · 05/11/2025 16:56

@InfoSecInTheCity do you do strength training? Since I started heavy lifting my posture - seated and standing - has got so much better, and I get much less back pain. I think it’s because all my muscles are getting stronger, there’s less stress on my neck etc.

alltablenochairs · 05/11/2025 23:11

Statistics incoming. Avoid if numbers hurt your brain like its doing to mine.

Despite me comparing myself to a fat cow I have managed to lose another 2.3kg (5lbs) in October. The suggested weight loss is between 1-2lbs a week so I will take that as a win. For comparison I lost 2kg in September, 1.9kg in August and 1.9kg in July. Looking like I am losing in the region of 2kg a month so I'll also take that as a win.
I have another 5.3kg to go before I have a BMI of 30 and 18.3kg to go before I have a BMI of 25. Or turn it around I would have lost 46kg to get to a BMI of 30 and 58kg to get to a BMI of 25. Please excuse the profanity but f**k me thats sobering. Especially for someone who does absolutely zilch exercise and spends their day parked on their bum. Or asleep.

alltablenochairs · 05/11/2025 23:16

@alwaysscared its absolutely your post surgery recovery weight gain. Surgery is hard on your body at the best of times. However at the risk of sounding like I am nagging (and please tell me to shut my face if I am) its also important to take time for you to rest and recover. And follow the instructions from your treating consultant about things like MJ usage, recovery, any prescribed exercises, physio or restrictions in lifting/carrying and returning to the gym if thats something you do.

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/11/2025 23:52

Thanks for all the suggestions for sorting out my neck/shoulders ladies, I do need to get back to the gym and make more of an effort on strength exercises, I have been slacking! Much prefer the idea of heated massage devices though 😀 And I definitely am not sitting right at my desk. I have a proper chair, it adapts in loads of ways but I sit hunched over, often with my head in my hands and I sit with my legs crossed or folded under me so I’m most certainly not following all the rules in my DSE course/assessment.

You are doing fantastically @alltablenochairs I always find looking at the stats a bit mind blowing. I realised the other day that I now need to be careful that I don’t end up underweight, how mad is it that I started morbidly obese and now I’m being careful not to go too low?!

Heaviest weight - 271 lb (19st 5lb / 123kg) - BMI 41.2
Current weight - 136lb ( 9st 10lb / 62kg) - BMI 21

SecondCircuit · 06/11/2025 06:25

I’m reading your stats and they are extraordinary achievements. I can only imagine all the wonderful feelings you must feel - joy, pride, huge relief. Pre Mounjaro I would have been very sceptical a person can shed 50 kg of their weight without some form of a surgery.

But drug or no drug the whole process still requires determination and focus for quite a long time so well done ladies. I salute you.

MooBaggage · 06/11/2025 11:55

@InfoSecInTheCity I've just got a standing desk - delivered yesterday - and am already in love with it! I slouch a lot when I'm sitting and often have hours of back to back meetings, so being able to stand up for even every other meeting is brilliant today. It's got automatic settings for standing/sitting based on where I want them to be - it's ace - might help?

The ultimate aim is to use my walking pad whilst standing during (long, boring) meetings - but I've lost the sodding remote control to the walking pad (it's been that long since I used it..!), so am defeated at the moment 🙄

MooBaggage · 06/11/2025 12:00

I had a NSV on Tuesday - had to go to the opticians for an eye test and could actually get my body near the chin rest thingy...! When I had an eye test last year it was sooooooo uncomfortable because I couldn't get my chin on the rest - my body was so bloody big it was blocking the way and I remember sweating trying to make it work 😔

This year - no problem - like a normal human being 😮

On the downside, turns out it wasn't my glasses that were wrong (I thought my glasses were a bit dodgy as I can't see as well as usual), it's my eyes - have got large and multiple cataracts in both eyes so need to get them removed. Deep joy. Should be done in Feb 2026 - explains why I've been hating night driving so much recently!

Upside to discovering this - dp has said he'll do all night driving until I've had them both done - which means he's the designated driver on nights out 😬

I lost the remote for ours for the same thing, using it at the standing desk. If it's a smart one check the app - it's fiddly but still works ☺️

InfoSecInTheCity · 06/11/2025 13:10

@MooBaggage sorry to hear about the cataracts, on a positive note it’s a quick, routine and painless surgery with immediate results. I have crappy eyes, getting crappier as time goes on. A few years ago I had a vitrectomy and retina re-attachment surgery which included a bonus lens replacement. They had a collection of patients in the waiting area getting cataracts removed and they were literally in and out within the hour walked in with a cataract walked out with an eye patch.

NotsosunnyShropshire · 07/11/2025 06:58

I am almost exactly halfway to my goal. Not sure I’ll make it all the way but happy with how far I’ve come so far.
my starting BMI was 41
