Rechargeable heated socks???? What kind of luxury is that? Ditto the heated jumper although the cat plonked on my chest purring away is doing an equally good job.
Alongside a leg wrap made from 2 fleece blankets and a 15 tog duvet, lined with another fluffy blanket I have now taken to sticking a hot water bottle in as well to rest my feet on- I usually wear fluffy socks as opposed to shoes. I know I live 'up north' where its always freezing cold anyway but a bit of warmth would be really nice please and thank you very much.

On good news though, after 22 days the stall has finally ended. I know why, it wasnt a Christmas or a health-related thing. The reasons why havent gone away but maybe, just maybe this will be the year I get something which has never hapoened and thats a healthy BMI. As it is I have a BMI of 30.6. Down from 45.

MooBaggage · 03/01/2026 22:18

@alltablenochairs that is brilliant!! You're amazing - and I feel your pain re: the cold - I have never felt so cold as I have over the past few weeks. Am a bit worried maybe we have to get used to feeling this freezing? I need to invest in some thermals, I think - it's too miserable being this shivery...

Your BMI is going to be in the 20's any second now - we will shiver those lbs off.... 🤦‍♀️😬

Ok, deep breath. Just done my starting weigh in:

SW: 111.05kg
Long term goal: 80kg
Short term goal: under 100!

I’d also love to eventually be in size 14-16 clothes - even when I was very slim with very disordered eating I was not ever smaller than a 12-14, I think my body is simply not built to be “thin”.

GiveMeWordGames · 04/01/2026 08:42

Well done @YellowStockings , you're on the way now! And that's excellent news @alltablenochairs .

The feeling cold thing will never not be weird for me. Particularly my feet when I go to bed, unless I've had a bath. I've never had cold feet at night my entire life, slim or fat. I'm trying not to over invest in "keeping warm" stuff because when I stop MJ my assumption is I'll revert to how I was before (but maybe run slightly less hot due to being thinner).

MooBaggage · 04/01/2026 09:30

I don't suppose anyone's got a sodastream-type machine have they? I'm getting through 4 - 6 litres of fizzy water a week (I start off every day with 2 x litres of still, but much prefer fizzy!) and am getting fed up of all the blooming plastic bottles everywhere!

Have never had a sodastream though and am not sure about the faff getting the cylinders replaced - whether it'll just become another kitchen thing that collects dust... 🙄

Dur - I meant 4 - 6 x 2 litre bottles of fizzy a week!

@WeAllHaveWings I’ve got the Merrell Moab’s and they are fabulously comfortable and pretty lightweight but they are more sturdy walking boots as opposed to trainers.

i can write books on shoes for difficult feet, even before I injured my foot, I have wide feet, high arches and the beginnings of a bunion. Now I have metal-work in one foot that needs to be supported at all times and the Moab’s are great for that.

For more lightweight trainers I recommend the brand Hoka. They’re not cheap but for a while they were the only things I could walk in, podiatrist approved and come in wide fit. I have a few pairs of Hoka Clifton, which are roomy, supportive and lightweight.

I've had one a year (it was a Christmas present from DH last year) after spending years buying a 4 pack of 2l supermarket fizzy water a week. I do rather love it. I'm not 100% sure I'm saving money once you factor in the initial cost, plus the cost of the cylinders but I love not having all the plastic bottles to chuck out and not lugging the water home every week (or feeling hated by my delivery driver when we do Ocado😄) I also get a very childish enjoyment from pumping the fizz into the bottle. It takes me back to the one we had in the early 80s when I was a kid.

You will need to buy a couple of extra bottles as you only get one with the machine (simple, from Amazon) and an extra cylinder so you have one in reserve. After that, swapping the cylinders is easy. Loads, of places sell them - eg Argos, Robert Dyas, or you can send them off by post I think. It works out about the same, cost wise. DH bought me the type where loading the cylinder is very automatic (pink colour) . I seem to get through about a cylinder a month (so, £15) and I like my water quite fizzy.

I've not got on with any of the syrups - they're very sweet and eg the diet tonic doesn't taste right to me. So that's been a bit of a waste of money.

Well done and while you’ve got your nerve up take some realistic photos and measurements so in 6 months when you do them again you can be astounded at your brilliance.

I strongly recommend setting yourself loads of tiny goals and celebrating every one, I had 7lb,14lb,21lb…. Size 20, Size 18, size 16….. 5%, 10%, 15%……… Overweight BMi, Healthy BMI……

It was surreal when I reached the end of them!

SW- 19st 5lb
GW - 10st 1lb

weight at last weigh in before Xmas was 9st, 10lb will be daring the scales tomorrow to see what damage has been done over Xmas and new years.

TaffyTabby · 04/01/2026 12:20

Hey folks
I hope it’s okay to join. I was part of another thread but I have more to lose than the others there who are already near normal bmi - trying not to be envious! - so thought I’d come here.
I had five stone to lose when I started in November and now have four left to go.
I’m going to read back in the thread to see where you’re all at :)

WeAllHaveWings · 04/01/2026 14:25

Welcome to the thread @TaffyTabby this is exactly why this thread was originally created for those who have longer journeys and different challenges.

I only very recently reached a normal BMI (although Christmas has taken me just into overweight again 🙈) and started 18 months ago when I joined the first thread in this series. I think there is a good combination of new starters, those settled into their journey and also experience on the thread to make everyone feel comfortable here.

Well done on your progress so far and good luck!

I’m currently eyeing up heated hoodies, hoodies with elements throughout the front and back that can be plugged into a portable power bank. I very much like the idea of wearing a heated blanket 24/7, one company does rechargeable heated socks and gloves too. If I end up with a fully chargeable outfit I’ll have to remember not to wear it when we go away next month, I can’t imagine going through the airport scanners would go well with that many wires running over everything.

Ooohhhh heated hoodies - now that’s an idea 😂😂. Today I went for breakfast with my hot water bottle shoved down my coat. I normally leave it in the car but today I took it in with me and left it on my knees - bliss 🥰

Questions1234 · 04/01/2026 16:17

I did my first HYROX (this “fitness race” thing my sister has convinced me to sign up to) class this morning and absolutely loved it! Think I’ve found my new obsession. Parts of it (wall throws and sledge push) were quite frankly ridiculous, but felt amazing after. And was ridiculously flattered by the class leader person saying “you’re obviously very fit”. Don’t think anyone has ever said that to me in my whole life before!!! If you’d told me a year ago I’d have voluntarily gone to a class at a gym, not only survived, but really enjoyed it, I would have thought you’d lost the plot. The more I get in to fitness, the more I realise it’s about finding what you enjoy, and breaking the “diet” link. It’s silly, as it sounds so obvious, but I just didn’t get it before.

What wasn’t so great was the first conversation someone engaged me in was about how ridiculous weight loss injections are and obviously everyone will just put the weight back on. They were totally ill informed about how they work (“all they do is suppress appetite”) and the fact you can stay on long term. A gem was if you’ve lost “a significant amount of weight like 5 stone” (I’ve lost more than that) you obviously have issues with food. No shit Sherlock - hence the needing medication to help you lose weight. What was good is that I found it amusing rather than upsetting (that it didn’t occur them that I could possibly be on them - hiding in plain site), but didn’t want my first impression to be getting into an argument (I stuck with a few gentle challenges/corrections)! It did make me think I’m going to try to be braver about challenging misconceptions when I come across them…

alltablenochairs · 04/01/2026 17:02

@TaffyTabby does your name mean you also have furry overlords in your house?
Of course you're welcome. Everyone is.

People are in this thread with differrnt starting points but for a quick summary I started MJ in October 2024 with a BMI of 45. My motivation for starting MJ was that gallstones earlier that year made a very determined attempt to....... off me for want of a better phrase. Didnt know I even had them till the damn things gave me sepsis. The consultant at the time was very clear that I was lucky this time, the next time I wouldnt be. As I would rather be here to celebrate my kids 18th birthdays and a lifetime of slimming clubs and weird diets did nothing, MJ it was. Since then I have lost 42kg and have a BMI of 30.6. This might seem like slow progress but I'm also a wheelchair user with very little tolerance for exercise.

TaffyTabby · 04/01/2026 18:27

Thank you for the welcome! Yes I @alltablenochairs have a tabby moggy who is very loved (sometimes a bit too much by my husband and kids). I asked ChatGPT to make me a username that reflects I like cats and sugar ha!
edit to say I am so impressed by your loss, amazing work!

@Questions1234 I am impressed at you taking that challenge on. And that you bit your tongue because those types of comments would really get my back up - what nonsense.

Timetofindme · 05/01/2026 08:18

Morning all. Still plodding on here. Bit of a stall over Christmas but I know I've not drunk enough water so focusing on that this week, and getting more protein in. Debating whether I need to edge up a bit (currently on 7.5) but I had such horrible side effects between 5 & 7.5 - (despite edging up on v inbetweens) im a bit reluctant but also think I might need a slightly higher dose.

Think the plan is to see how I go over the next couple of weeks and then decide and maybe just nudge up to 8. So more water, more protein, more steps.

We can do this!

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/01/2026 08:18

Xmas weight gain only 0.9 lb so feeling good about that should be gone within a week and I was able to read a bit have a few meals out and eat a few mince pies without destroying all the hard work which is nice.

MooBaggage · 05/01/2026 09:44

Hello @TaffyTabby! I'm 88lbs (very nearly 89!) down to date and am just a week short of being on Mounjaro for a year - which I cannot believe..! This is the longest time I've ever sustained any kind of weight loss. Bonkers. My BMI is now 29.6, down from 43 and I have about 40lbs to go to get an upper range 'normal' BMI - although I might stop after about 35lbs - basically as soon as I hit under BMI 25 I think I'll be celebrating hard 😀

I've grown to love my posh Eufy scales, but this morning it's sodding well increased my age by a year!! Rude! I'm 56 and it's been telling me I'm 58 until today - now it's saying I'm 59 😮which I actually wish I was these days, as I'd be nearer to retirement.... Not sure why, as my muscle % is good and visceral fat is now normal. The nerve of it...!

GiveMeWordGames · 05/01/2026 09:52

Morning! I'm the same as last week. Still 11st 13.75 which I'll take as a win given NYE etc.

Overall since 15th Dec I've managed to lose 2.5lbs which doesn't seem too shabby for Christmas. I'm now just over 9lbs away from a 6 stone loss, which is kind of becoming my goal weight in my mind. We shall see.

Welcome @TaffyTabby !

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/01/2026 09:55

@TaffyTabby I had the most gorgeous cat - a brown long haired tabby cat who was rescued off the street as a tiny kitten by the tea lady at work. He was so abused he couldn't grow fur properly for a while, but he soon grew a lovely lush fluffy coat. Quite unusal to be brown & tabby.

His name was Taffy - I loved him so much. When I left NZ he was about 8 and my best friend adopted him. Glorious cat!!

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/01/2026 10:55

I have a soda stream @MooBaggage - just a cheap one I picked up very cheaply a few years ago - they often do deals around this time of the year.

I don't use it often but my kids use it every day & the gas lasts us ages.
the cylinders are widely available (I swap mine at Tesco _ the refills cost less if you hand in your empty cylinder) and we get by with just the one.

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/01/2026 12:51

what trackers are you all using that you would recommend please?

I've used MFP on/off for years but its seems to be much more clunky to use these days - I don't like using it and I wouldn't pay for it.

I've lost 45kg without tracking anything but as I approach both the last 6 or so KG to lose, and then maintenance, I think it would be useful to start tracking for a while.

I don't mind paying for a truly excellent tracker.

HumBumBum · 05/01/2026 13:30

Do you mean tracking food or progress Shotsy is built for WLI and has a nice progress chart (but it doesn’t track what you eat - I find I don’t need to do that anymore - thank goodness!)

Slowrunning · 05/01/2026 13:37

I use My Net Diary @RobinEllacotStrike
I don’t pay for the premium version as the free one does all I need.
I have found it very useful to keep me on track.
