New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All very welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Nothing is off topic and progress photos always welcome, encouraging us all to keep going!

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

Hello! Can I join you please? Finally took the plunge and have ordered my first Wegovy pen (trying it first as it's so much cheaper). I hadn't weighed myself in year so got what I really horrible shock when I got on the scales... let's just say I definitely have more than 30 kilos to lose! Feeling a bit wobbly but so relieved to be taking this step.

Oh my goodness I've just read this back - you can tell I was in shock due to all the typos haha!

MooBaggage · 31/12/2025 21:06

Welcome @YellowStockings ! We've all had/have significant amounts of weight to lose, so we get you.

If you can cope, definitely measure yourself as well as weighing yourself and write it down somewhere - you'll be glad in a few months' time that you've done it when you see the inches going down - and sometimes your weight might get stuck, but your measurements will change. I didn't do my measurements until 4 months in and I really wish I had now!

Other top tips - water, water, water... try to drink at least 2 x litres a day - I aim for 3 x litres and mostly make it! Also, lots of protein to keep you feeling full and please shout if you have any queries - there is so much experience on this thread, which I have benefitted from so much over the past 12 months 😊👍

That's great advice, thank you. I'll measure myself before I start (I actually think that won't be as painful as the numbers aren't linked to BMI).

I'm sure I will be asking everyone for advice very soon! Hopefully the pen will come on Friday and I can start then. I've been so nervous about trying, but I know that if it ends up working well for me I'll wish I'd started sooner. I'm vegetarian so I'm still thinking about how to hit protein goals - I guess upping things like cottage cheese / high-protein greek yoghurt / eggs / tofu / lentils / beans? The latter two especially to try and prevent the sluggish digestive system I've read can be a side effect...

Happy New Year to you all, you wonderful wonderful companions. This thread has kept me going throughout the last year and has been a regular and constant source of company, wisdom, laughs and questions that just wouldn’t have been appropriate elsewhere.

I am happy to report that for the first time in 30 years my New Year’s resolution is not to lose weight!

Happy new year to all you amazing women on this thread. And welcome @YellowStockings . What a great way to start the new year! I was saying to DH over dinner, if someone had told me last NYE I'd be under 12 stone in a year I'd have laughed, bitterly! MJ was barely on my radar then.

Those photos are inspiring @InfoSecInTheCity .

Zebracat · 31/12/2025 23:23

Happy new year. Our tiny gathering just got ambushed by our friends van life brother and 2 puppies, one of whom took a dump on the floor. Friend promptly hustled them all out. It was so funny. We had loads of party food, but I had a couple of crackers a sliver of cheese and some grapes. Very happy with that and 2 glasses of wine. Dh is going out tomorrow and I can’t decide whether to read, watch a film or do a puzzle- luxury . I do need to also make some soup as we have just been given 7 bags of Brussels and 3 of parsnips from an Olio person. I should definitely have refused some sprouts. We love them though.

Welcome @YellowStockings! This is a lovely supportive group, and full of sound advice (I find some of the other threads can be a bit 🤔 at times). I hear you on the shock when from the scales - I was the same. I think as I hadn’t got a way to deal with it (having tried everything before), I’d decided to stop weighing myself and got a nasty shock. To begin with I was deeply ashamed of how out of control I’d let my weight get, although (as with many others on this tread) I had a lot going on at home, and there were worst ways I could have dealt with it. But how transformational I’ve found Mounjaro has really helped with the shame. In the early days I’d always be saying “is this what naturally skinny people feel like all the time” which I’ve done again this Christmas.

A few more additional pieces of advice:

100% on the measurements - often then the scales are stuck, my measurements will be going down.

Same with regular progress pictures you’re happy to share publicly. You might choose not to, but it’s nice to that the option.

I’d save one piece of clothing from now to remind me yourself how far you’ve come. I didn’t to start with and have recently fished something out of my Vinted to sell pile!

See if you can find some activity you enjoy and start manageable and focus on the mental health benefits. I thought I disliked exercise as it was caught up in the weight-loathing cycle - turned out i was doing the wrong thing/approaching it with the all or nothing mindset.

Inform yourself. Some of the information floating around various forums can be a bit suspect, as can some of the news stories (but much better recently come to think of it). Get your information from decent sources, and inform yourself. I love the Fat science podcast, but lots out there!

Good luck!

@InfoSecInTheCity amazing photos and I hear you on the New Year’s resolution. Mine is to train for a HYROX challenge… I still think I might be totally mad and decide not to do it, but the point is I’m giving it a go. And for fun! If you’d told me that a year ago, I’d never have believed you.

Questions1234 · 01/01/2026 08:14

Inspired by my advice to @YellowStockings above, here’s my photo of the trousers I was wearing a year ago vs the ones I was wearing yesterday… almost one year in to the day, and nearly 50kg down, a few more to go (ultimate goal still tbc)…

@YellowStockings I would also recommend using an app like Shotsy, to track your injections (I use mine to remind myself which side I last jabbed, as I can never remember!) and it makes very pleasing graphs - here's mine so far..!

Note: the sparkly skirt is something I would NEVER normally wear, but my Mum had her sparkly dress and wanted me to wear something something sparkly too, so I ordered it on Amazon and it arrived Christmas Eve! I must admit I quite enjoyed having it on, but felt ridiculously girly 😁

Happy new year to everyone and of course hello and welcome to @YellowStockings. Although I havent lost anything for a while now (and I know why, there are Reasons) if anyone would have told me a year ago I would have been 42kg less than I wouldnt have believed them. My advice would be to get a heated blanket. Or get two because if you have cats they'll very quickly take ownership. Also, be aware that as your face shape changes your passport photo wont bear as much resemblance to you as it used to. Thankfully mine needs renewing this year anyway.n

I dont have a goal yet. Although I know what it'll take to acheive a healthy BMI this is still a while away for me. Too many years of slimming clubs, goal setting and weekly weigh ins to want to do this for me.

I'll finish on a NSV. I was eating cider vinegar and salt crisps at midnight with DH and the firstborn. I am still clearly digesting them this morning because I can hear it! Couldn't before because there was too much of me. Unfortunately it sounds as squeaky and creaky as the rest of me.

YellowStockings · 01/01/2026 10:20

Thank you all so, so much for the warm welcome and advice. I'm very happy to have found you all.

Your amazing photos are making me feel quite emotional, and very hopeful - well done, what a huge change. I don't quite dare believe it's possible for me, but I'm very eager to try. Hopefully my pen will arrive tomorrow or soon after, but I'm starting today as I mean to go on.

Obviously know what you meant but this totally reads like you're plucking up the courage to post pics of your phlegm soup. 😅

@MooBaggageWhat a wonderful result! Well done. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to post before and after photos..

DottyMcDiet · 01/01/2026 13:13

Welcome @YellowStockings, I’ve managed to lose 30kg since April but still have a long way to go.

I wish I’d taken measurements at the beginning as I look at Mary old clothes in amazement.

I recommend Shotsy too.

Congratlations to @MooBaggage, I love the skirt!😍

Albusmum · 01/01/2026 13:26

Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking here since late April and hoping you will have me at such a late stage? I have loved reading the threads and your updates and feel super proud of you all. You are so inspiring and I especially love when some of you post on other threads with advice or doses of reality - some of you make me laugh out loud!
Some stats - I’m 55
SW 98.5kg
CW 73.5
TW - undecided but maybe 63kg?

I’m on 10mg atm and hoping to stay on this for another month or two if funds allow. I’m going to buy a 12.5 mg and use for 5 weeks (no golden dose). I’m hoping to begin titrating down and working on fitness. I started couch to fitness today and will then go on to couch to 5k.

I’m looking for 2 bits of advice/help/knowledge regarding your fitness?

  1. How quickly have you seen improvements in your fitness once you started exercising? I’m struggling to breathe when I attempted the couch to 5k and decided to start with the couch to fitness today (I loved it).
  2. Any great soup recipes as I love soup and I know this is a great way to get some extra fibre and veg etc. The constipation is real!

I’m grateful for any advice if anyone has time.
Thanks

MooBaggage · 01/01/2026 18:04

Hello @Albusmum 😊

I can't really help with the fitness question as I don't do any cardio - but can say that the handweights I use got easier after a couple of weeks of using them daily!

Re: soups - I tend to buy bags of frozen veg (no food waste at all!) and chuck random amounts in of them all - I use frozen butternut squash, sweet potato, casserole veg and I add a pint (or a bit more) of chicken stock as I like the taste of it. Lots of herbs and some paprika, bit of chilli powder, some worcester sauce and boil it all up and then use a hand blender.

Each batch turns out differently because I don't follow a recipe! But essentially, lots of different veg, chicken stock and seasoning 🙂

Ha! That’s how I cook @MooBaggagei just throw random stuff I find in the veg drawer and freezer into a slow cooker and hope for the best.

Not a big fan of soup @Albusmum but I did make up this bolognaise soup once and it was nice https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/chunky-bolognese-soup I didn’t put the pasta in because I try to eat as few carbs as possible due to diabetes, I added a load of sliced mushrooms instead which I tend to do to bulk out most recipes. Also use big field/portobello mushrooms as replacements when making lasagna for the family, just hold back some of the meat and red sauce, stuff the mushrooms and bake alongside the lasagna for an easy alternative, I also use them as burger buns.

Bowls of Bolognese soup with penne

This healthy, filling lunch provides a good balance of protein and carbs from lean steak mince and wholemeal pasta – ideal to aid muscle recovery after exercise

Happy new year everyone!!
😫😫😫 I’ve gained 12lbs since my operation at the end of October! The 6.25mg of MJ is just not doing anything now and I’ve totally lost control. I can’t afford to go up, and when I tried I felt really rough so don’t think I want to anyway. I just feel so ashamed of myself.

WeAllHaveWings · 02/01/2026 12:15

@AmberLime I am very boring and make the same ham and lentil soup all the time but dh, ds(21) and I all love it, especially this time of year and it always goes quickly!

A smoked ham hough (or two depending on size as I like a decent amount of meat in my soup) for stock, then lots of red lentils/carrots/leek/depending on time of year also swede (avoiding when it is woody) and then lots of black pepper, add the ham from the hough, and stock cube(s) if needed. I don't blend as prefer a thick chunky soup.

It takes so long for the stock then the soup I make a HUGE pot about once a fortnight which gives me 10-12 generous portions (approx 450cal, 35g protein so a full meal) to freeze.
