Quick NSV - just got on the plane and the seatbelt fits easily! Like, I didn't even have to put it at the very end of its length 😃 Hurrah for NSVs!

That is amazing - needing an extension to the plane seatbelt was one of the key things that have led me to WLI and taking things a bit more seriously - couldn't hide from reality any more.

Have an amazing time @@MooBaggage
I see your 79lbs and raise you my frustrating 78.4lbs 🙄
Also seeing 100.5kg on scales 2 days ago… today 101!
I think I may need to stay off the scales for a few weeks through this frustrating phase.

Amazing feeling to click that airplane seatbelt with ease. That click sound satisfyingly told me ‘maybe I am closer to normal now’

@SecondCircuittheres a weird thing I noticed around a stall and I might actually just be weird and a medical marvel but I suspect not and it is this. My language by the way will not be even a little bit scientific!

I would have periods of time with no loss on the scales but would notice the ‘quality’ of my fat would change and all of a sudden my belly or thighs or arms would suddenly feel more squishy and fluffy like marshmallow.it even did fun things like almost floating in the bath. When this happened I would know that I was due a whoosh of weight loss, that even though the scales were being bastards and staying the same or horror of horrors going up, that something scientific was actually happening on the inside. one day i would wake up 4 lbs lighter like the squishy marshmallow fat had evaporated overnight.

I have experienced this too - its odd but the scales show no loss, but I can see/feel a change in my body and then woosh there's a good loss.

The 2nd half of my weight loss has been much slower than the first half, and I think this is very common especially if there is a lot to lose.

I have spent most of 2025 feeling like I was "not losing weight" but have lost about 25 kilos this year.. Its because of the plateau/woosh cycle. I'm very used to it now and I've just been going with the flow, focusing on eating well & drinking water.

I think good consistant water consumption is essential on MJ.

I went on a plane a few weeks ago and realised that for the first time ever I could actually do the brace position if I needed to.there was enough room in front of me to actually bend forwards with my arms crossed and my head on the seat in front.

NewbieMJ · 10/11/2025 14:00

Great to hear from you @RobinEllacotStrike I'm not far behind you. I weigh 174 lbs, and 89 lbs down, but you are taller than me, so not near a size 12. Congratulations, that must feel amazing!

I went out for dinner last night with the family, and wore a size 14 dress. It felt fantastic.

On the carb front; I keep my carbs very low and avoid sugar generally, BUT if I have refined carbs or sugar, not only does my body want more, I am guaranteed to have an initial weight gain, that takes 7-10 days to come down and guaranteed no weight loss whatsoever, so sometimes up to 2 weeks of repayment for a minor indulgence. My body is so insulin resistant and even 14 months on, it reacts very badly to sugar, so I know in the long term I will have to be vigilant and disciplined. So worth it though and I will never go back to obesity.

Like many of us here, we have journeyed this far, and there is no going back. I always said I'd do anything to lose weight...so avoiding sugar seems a small price to pay, now I am here.

Here's to a good week lovely losers💪

Thanks @NewbieMJ

I second you on the refined carbs - they are lethal to a healthy diet, calm mind.

I had some old bananas and made a banana cake with chocolate icing for the teens last weekend. I had been working hard all day & hadn't eaten much so I had a slice of cake & a cup of tea. For the rest of the day I felt dreadful. I craved more cake, counts stop thinking about the cake, I craved food, I had a rush of food noise out of the blue. Then came in indigestion/reflux which lasted 2 days - I've not experienced that in my entire MJ journey.

"carbs call to carbs" - this is how I experience it.

I've not eaten many processed carbs since starting MJ - very easy to not eat them and apart from alcohol & fruit, my sugar consumption has been low.
A couple of weeks ago I had a pub roast with a Yorkshire Pudding - no problem with that, I guess becasue it was a balanced meal with lots of meat & veg. But the cake with icing was a step too far. It did frighten me how powerful the effect was, how negitive an effect it was. And I don't even have problems with sugar - in 2024 I wore a gluecose monitor for 2 weeks which showed me my insulin responses etc were top notch - nothing problematic (which was a surprise).

I think you are correct and a future where sugar/white carbs are very controlled is essential.

In the past I have lost up to 18kgs with low carb but then I ahve toast one morening and the next thuing I know I'm waking from a sugar/flour fog 22kgs heavier. I do not want that to happen again.

I do love cake (& ice cream) but I can see myself enjoying cake on family birthdays, a nice pudding at Christmas, and leaving sugar out of my diet the rest of the time. This may seem severe but it feels like an honest assessment of future life as a slimmer person not regaining weight.

RobinEllacotStrike · 13/11/2025 11:19

and congrats on feeling so fab in your size 14 dress!!!
Its DD's 18th birthday on Sunday and we are going out to a nice restaurant for dinner. I'm really looking forward to getting dressed up.

RobinEllacotStrike · 13/11/2025 11:34

re Christmas, I'm so not bovvered this year 😁

I'm considering 2 options (I usually cook the whole Christmas roast/all the extras and make the Queens Jubilee trifle or variation thereof):

  • M&S pre prepped everything like @InfoSecInTheCity
  • If I ask the DD's what they want for Xmas dinner they always say sushi & I laugh. This year I am considering induldging them - there is a fab local sushi restaurant & I could pickup a big platter on Xmas eve. Sorted.

Whatever option I go for I will make the Queens trifle - passionfruit variation this year. Its a 10 part process, very Masterchef!! There are several pints of cream involved and I love making it. I make one for us and smaller ones for my neighbour & friends.

We make luxury nachos with prawns & guacamole for Xmas eve.

InfoSecInTheCity · 13/11/2025 12:21

@RobinEllacotStrike. Do sushi Xmas!

I found that I do miss the xmassy food a little if we do a completely no xmas variant but found the easy fix for that too - fresh bread, a pack of sliced chicken breast, a carton of Tesco finest ready made gravy and ready made stuffing, jars of favourite pickles, turns out if you can make a ‘leftovers’ sandwich at stupid o clock Xmas day evening then that ticks all the boxes. Best part of the day.

RobinEllacotStrike · 13/11/2025 12:42

I get turkey with trimmings etc in the THREE consecutive work Xmas lunch do's in a row so I'm not bothered about missing out.

Love your "leftovers" sandwich - great idea.

gimmemounjaro · 13/11/2025 15:10

Our Christmas is pretty low key, just four of us although I’m not sure we shall see much of DS this year as he is heavily into the new gf. The DC just want money these days so not the old excitement around presents (nor the pressure 😅).

We do Christmas dinner with turkey or goose, followed by chocolate log. Home made brioche buns with baked camembert and a ham on Christmas Eve. Everyone gets some goodies from Santa - mine is usually a chocolate orange but I’ve bought myself some M+S Jaffa cakes this year. Maybe a 6 pack of crisps and a few nuts in the cupboard and that’s about it really, we don’t usually host anyone and often go away to family on 27th so there’s really no point in buying loads of food, tins of quality street and the like. DH does something with leftovers on Boxing Day, maybe a pie or a curry or just whatever’s left with some bubble and squeak. And we spend our time playing games and watching films together. Might be able to drag the DC out for a dog walk if I’m lucky. We have a few drinks but nothing too crazy. In short, it’s very manageable, diet-wise. The few days with family between Christmas and new year is a whole other story though 😬

dimples76 · 13/11/2025 17:17

Christmas is a very full on event here. I have decided that I will probably delay my jab that week. We have an extended family tea party for 30-40 people on Christmas Eve which is carb, fat and sugar loaded - lots of different things involving cheese, mushroom vol au vent, sticky cocktail sausages, gingerbread house, Mars bar crispness, chocolate roulade, meringues and a whole lot more! My Mum and I spend 2 days preparing it. Don't tell my DC or the rest of the family but preparing the food with my Mum is normally my fave time
My BIL expresses horror each year at the lack of vegetable content. Then we have Turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Christmas Day. Less is more is definitely not the family motto when it comes to Christmas.

So there will be a lot of temptation. I am hoping to keep the exercise up and limit my less careful eating to 23-26th then back on the wagon...

Enjoy your hols @MooBaggage

@Reginaphalangeeeee I bobbed around between 101kg and 99kg for about 6 weeks. I have finally made it into safer territory (97kg). I think stepping away from.the scales for a couple of weeks might be a good idea. It gets so frustrating

Zebracat · 13/11/2025 19:48

Have a lovely holiday, Moo.
I have no idea what Christmas will look like here yet. My daughter wants a fake one with us the week before. . But the day itself could be anything from 2 to 15 people, we’ll just roll with it. Dh loves the cooking so that’s good. I love trifle so the Queens jubilee recipe is very appealing . I’ve been really unwell this week with a weird swollen face. As a consequence I still haven’t got a new pen. I’m so frustrated. May have to just give it up. Watching all these dreadful news reports of children with anorexia able to source Mounjaro and here I am overweight and 66, trying to choose a 4th company who may deign to sell it me at a grossly inflated price.

GoingDownDown · 14/11/2025 12:54

I’ve been really struggling, I think I fall in that category where MJ doesn’t really do a lot for me. I lost a bit before starting, then 5 worked well for me for a bit, but since then it hasn’t really. I’m now on 12, and think I need to reset my brain and say it’s ok that MJ only makes a little difference, if it takes a little bit of the food noise away then that still makes it easier to diet than with 100% food noise. I just need to lean in to “dieting” harder than I have been. So have logged and tracked today so far, been to the gym, am drinking my water. If I can get a few pounds off before Christmas, I will be happy.

RobinEllacotStrike · 14/11/2025 13:29

Sushi Christmas has been approved by DD's.

Old me "cheese week" will be replaced by New me "Boxing Cheese Day", and then back to normal for me.

I will drink more over Christmas for sure

Zebracat · 14/11/2025 13:37

Good luck with that @RobinEllacotStrike . Wouldn’t work for me as I loathe sushi and I’m allergic to shellfish - with you on avoiding cheese week tho.

GoingDownDown · 14/11/2025 14:03

@RobinEllacotStrike sushi Christmas sounds like an excellent idea to me!

We will have standard Christmas fare, but my mum is hosting so that’s easy for me. There is no way she would consent to anything different, but I like turkey and trimmings.

Half my family are recently diagnosed diabetic, so we won’t have mounds of chocolate etc around, which helps. I know I’ll get a couple of boxes of chocolate from where I volunteer, will probably try to turn around and regift them straight to my kids teachers…

QueenOfHiraeth · 14/11/2025 15:27

Our Christmases have been smaller over the last few years than previously as I buy a lot in now rather than cooking from scratch.

My peak Xmas lunacy was the year the stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, etc were all homemade, cooked on skewers then stuck into the bottom end of the roast turkey to make a fan tail to bring it to the table with - very impressive but more work than I am willing to do now, which is ironic as I had young children back then and also used to make numerous Christmas cakes as gifts. My era of being a domestic goddess has well and truly gone!
We are going away between Christmas and New Year so I don't want too many leftovers either so will scale back with a clear conscience

UnimaginableWindBird · 14/11/2025 15:39

We have a small Christmas, just our immediate household of two adults and our teenagers (or 3 adults, I suppose, as DD is 19).

We tend to have more things like biscuits and mince pies and hot chocolate and mulled wine in December, so I'm going to have to be careful around those.

Christmas day itself is a huge feat, but one that I think will be perfectly manageable - smoked salmon Bagels for breakfast is a weekend treat anyway. Then we have a load of canapes at midday, and a herb-fed capon with trimmings mid afternoon, with cheese and Christmas pudding in the evening. I'm planning on having smaller portions and buying a lot less cheese than usual. And maybe buying myself some actual caviar rather than the fake stuff I usually get.

And I now actively dislike alcohol, so I'll have to give some good wine alternatives.

UnimaginableWindBird · 15/11/2025 08:32

I have a question for those of you further ahead on your journey than I am - does it get significantly harder to switch supplier once your BMI gets below 30? And also, for those of you who count clicks/take a fifth dose, do you need to keep buying new pens every 4 weeks and just build up a stash, or can you go 5 or 6 weeks between pens without having to account for the difference?

I'm likely to hit the overweight threshold by the end of my next pen, and I'm also noticing that 2.5mg is becoming less effective, so it's likely that I'll move up to 3.75 in the next month or two, and I'm not quite sure how the logistics work.

gimmemounjaro · 15/11/2025 09:15

@UnimaginableWindBird I have never had any trouble switching when under BMI 30, the last two pens I bought were both from new suppliers and my BMI is 22-23. They ask whether you are currently taking MJ and whether you got your last pen from them, if yes and then no, you just have to send them proof of your last prescription, which can be a photo of the sticker on the box showing your name, dose and date.

Re using a pen for more than four weeks - I built up a stash early on because there were (completely inaccurate) stories about shortages etc going around, so I would order as soon as I received the first reminder after 2 weeks. I did quite like knowing I would be ok for a couple of months if something went wrong with the supply chain though. So now I am maintaining and reducing the dose I’m on, I have stopped buying pens and I’m working my way through the ones I’ve got. Swift and Pharmulous both let their customers have a break of up to a year, so that’s what I’m doing as far as they’re concerned, even though the first part of the year I will still be using up my stash of MJ. Most places won’t bat an eyelid if you leave 5 weeks between orders. And one I ordered from recently - I think it was Pharmulous - asked had it been more than 6 weeks since my last prescription. Actually they might have asked if it had been more than 6 weeks since my last dose, I can’t remember. But it made me think they’d be ok with not ordering every four weeks on the dot. (You can check this if you go on their website and go through the questions as if you’re going to order btw. Or just email them and ask if it’s ok to order 6 weekly, they usually respond within a couple of days.)

GiveMeWordGames · 15/11/2025 09:42

I'm back from my work trip and managed things a lot better this time around. Ate earlier, drank MUCH more water, mostly dodged the carbs and snacks. To the extent that the scales this morning were down to 12st 7.75lb. I reckon I burned a good few calories legging it through T5 last night to make my railair bus. And I wasn't a puffed out sweaty mess when I made it, either. AND someone who I haven't worked with since March commented (in a lovely way) on my weight loss so that was nice too.

Christmas will be small here: just me, DH and Mum. DH will collect Mum on Xmas morning and we'll have a late breakfast of poached eggs and smoked salmon. Dinner happens around 4ish. There'll still be a (little, virtually a large chicken) turkey because husband and Mum moan EVERY YEAR when I suggest a crown, due to their love of leg meat. Roasties, sprouts, a few carrots and parnsips, a nice bought stuffing. I've never done pigs in blankets. DH hates Xmas pudding so he picks his own thing, I'll probably swerve it this year and get Mum a mini M&S one because she adores it. Boxing Day is a late pub lunch. Basically as long as I watch portions, and don't graze on chocolates every day for 2 weeks, I should be ok I think.

Not ignoring you @UnimaginableWindBird but I've been with the same in-person pharmacy throughout and I don't do the extra dose so I'm not much help!

UnimaginableWindBird · 15/11/2025 09:50

Thank you so much, @gimmemounjaro. That's exactly what I needed to know, and I was thinking of switching to Pharmulous anyway because their prices are competitive and they offer maintenance, so if that continues, I can just stay with them which would be less hassle.

I'm impressed with your dash through T5, @GiveMeWordGames .

MooBaggage · 15/11/2025 10:27

My Christmases have always been big and noisy with me and dp hosting lots of people and me cooking tons of traditional Xmas food - until 2 years ago when we separated. Last year I had a huge wobble after Christmas and said I wasn't going to do it all again - it's just not the same now... So this year, my Mum is going to do one of her lovely roast meals - much lower key and hopefully lower stress! Then we're going out for a Christmas meal on Dec. 27th at the local pub!

So, very different for me this year, but everyone knows about the MJ and me not eating as much, so it will be very ordinary in that sense!

I am currently on holiday in Lanzarote - on my own unexpectedly as my friend is poorly (post-Covid viral poorly) and couldn't come - so we both said itbwould be daft if I didn't go - so here I am holiday-ing alone!

It's an all inclusive and I'm being positively saintly - just eating lots of protein - freshly cooked fish and chicken - and bugger me if I can't manage more than a couple of sips of gin and tonic in the evening..! Total waste, frankly - this time last year I would have beem emptying the bar...

Am bloody loving wearing my Vinted new holiday clothes though - OMG I'm in size 16 shorts and a size 16 swimming costume and feel bloody amazing 😍
