Well thankfully after a day of double dosing on the esomeprazole, I can finally stand up without the horrible burning. I even managed to bend and do the dishwasher without pain! Think I will risk my delayed jab today.

its hard when in the middle of the symptoms to see a way through it but I’m feeling much more positive today and am definitely not done yet. A weight starting with 17 is only a couple of pounds away and I have a real chance of improving or even resolving my sleep apnoea which would be life changing, not having to cart the CPAP everywhere.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 26/10/2025 16:13

Second week on 3.75mg and I'm amazed at how much more suppression I have than on 2.5mg! The impact must have worn off more than I realised, it's like being back to the beginning again. Yesterday I didn't fancy breakfast so effectively had a day of intermittent fasting, I was thinking about doing it again today but since I'd had less than normal for dinner (thanks to the increased suppression) I did need some breakfast. But only a little bit of scrambled egg as I couldn't eat more than that, then a small lunch to make sure I get hungry again before our roast dinner tonight. It will be interesting to see if the bigger dinner means I don't want breakfast tomorrow.

Hope all is well everyone. I had a family gathering yesterday. Last time they saw me in April, I was 3 stone loss, and it probably wasn't noticeable to many.

Yesterday, at 6 stone loss, I have never had so many people suddenly want to talk to me about health and fitness in my life. I had a lot of comments that I looked great, but also many "what's your secret" and one Aunty (who has barely spoken to me before) who directly asked "Are you on mounjaro?" to which I replied "mon what? What's that?" and she quickly changed the subject to healthy eating. I could see a few pangs of jealousy from some Auntys there, and I don't really know what to make of it. And one random uncle that suddenly decided to blabber on about his yoga...

It was nice to be complemented, but also exhausting to have the same conversation with so many people.

I told whoever asked that I had lost 3 stone and I'm glad I didn't give the true number, because their mouths practically fell open saying "how much" it is.

TheZingyFish · 27/10/2025 10:34

SW 24st 9lbs
CW 19st 11lbs
Total lost 4st 12lbs

My weight starts with a 1!!!!!!!! Klaxon alert, I am under 20 stones!

I am so happy, the last time I weighed less than 20 stone was after being in hospital for 11 days with pancreatitis 17 years ago!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/10/2025 11:54

@ConfusedMiddleAger83 have you tried famotidine for heartburn?

I find with the PPIs that I have to take three a day. My GP prescribes 30mg lansoprazole for me, three times a day, and famotidine 20mg at night.

Hi - no I’ve just been taking over the counter and increased the dose this week after advice from my MJ pharmacy, but I probably need a prescription. I’m a bit reticent to go to the GP as not sure how supportive they will be and feel like I’m always in there at the moment with other unrelated issues, but I know I need to bite the bullet.

2 a day seems to be working for now 🤞🤞so I’ll see how I get on this week.

Any ideas about how to handle an upcoming meal out? I'm going out with my mother and sister for dinner before the theatre. They don't know I'm on WLI, I'm not opposed to telling them but just haven't yet. The restaurant is at the theatre and has a set menu - 2 or 3 courses, the only starter I would eat is garlic bread, and the main course options for me are either a mozzarella salad or pizza. I'm partly worried about the calories - even the garlic bread plus salad would be 1,000, or the pizza (which is delicious!!) is over 1,000 on its own. I could ask for whatever pizza I don't eat to be put in a box but I'm not sure they do that (tiny restaurant on the theatre foyer, no takeaway menu, only open to theatregoers). I hate waste but it seems I'll have to pay for a load of food I'm not going to eat. Even the kids menu is pizza plus dessert (no starters).

I buy myself little boxes ,like what you would get a takeaway in ,from any supermarket, they all sell something.and I take them to the restaurant with me
When food comes I put in box what I've decided I'm not eating today ,and I take it home .
I'm swift ,and do it quickly when no one is looking

That's a good idea, thanks. I wouldn't be worried about hiding it from my mum and sister, but I was worried the theatre might not let me take it in to the seats. But I'll have already gone past the bag check, and my handbag is plenty big enough for them not to notice!

Autumnflowers2 · 27/10/2025 18:01

No one wants to waste food ,I've been doing this for years ,I've always found meals to big when eating out ..I was a snacker in my fatter days ,so a big meal was never welcomed

PearlTeapot · 27/10/2025 18:25

I’d just get the garlic bread and salad. And enjoy what you want and leave the rest!

or a Tupperware in your bag.

Have a fun evening 💖

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 27/10/2025 19:18

I've realised they do an heirloom tomato side salad that I might ask if I can have as a starter, then have the pizza as it really is good and I don't get much opportunity to eat nice pizza, but take the tupperware so it doesn't go to waste.

Missingducks · 28/10/2025 08:12

@RenegadeKeeblerElf and do remember one meal out won't knock you off your path ...
And salads are so so trendy now (heirloom tomatoes sounds wonderful and not what most of us would make at home whereas garlic bread is bog standard).

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/10/2025 10:32

.......and do remember one meal out won't knock you off your path

This is very true.
There's really no need to worry about having dinner out. Your MJ will always be working in the background anyway.

I think it's the same at Christmas.

In late December 2024 I ate quite a bit more than usual over the entire Christmas period, and I enjoyed myself. I ate a good deal less than I'd eaten in previous years though.

It turned out to be really easy to get back on track in January.

I think that this also demonstrates that even when people are on MJ, it's important to make good choices most of the time.

OP posts:
TragicMuse · 28/10/2025 11:07

At the moment I’m not that worried about Christmas. I plan to have what I want, knowing that what I want will be less than it might have been in other years. But I want to stay on track and will jab as usual because I don’t see the point of committing to it - paying for it - and then just…not!

Self-soothing with food because it’s Christmas/birthday/anniversary/tough week at work etc. is a big problem for some of us. That’s what I’m learning not to do and taking time off won’t teach me anything. And I know it’s not the same for everyone, of course.

I need to learn to approach food ‘normally’, not as a reward system. Food is great! It’s delicious! But I don’t want to use it as a reward or withhold it as a punishment. I just want to be normal. Have a blowout, adjust naturally the next meal or next day.

Which is a long way to say I’ll be jabbing as normal over Christmas!

TheZingyFish · 28/10/2025 11:37

Something struck me about clothes sizes and the apparent lack of progress with dropping clothing sizes initially. I have now realised that in the past I used to just buy the biggest size I could get and go for a relaxed fit in the hope I could get into them, but was never wearing it as relaxed fit. I was squeezing myself into them. So I was buying size 26/28 but now I’m buying a size 24 but it is fitting as it is supposed to. Also I do think some of my bigger clothes stretched over time, so I was telling myself I was wearing a size 26 as that was what the label said, but was a relaxed fit and had stretched over time so in reality it was possibly a size 28 or even larger.

I hope this helps anyone as I know what it is like to think clothes are too big and then being disappointed when the next size down doesn’t fit.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 28/10/2025 11:41

Weigh day for me today, am I the only Tuesday weigher??
2.4 lbs off which I wasn’t expecting, so that was a nice surprise. So today I weigh 11st 6lbs exactly 🎉, unlike Broom, I can’t get anywhere near size 10 jeans though as there’s only a few pound’s between us, I can squeeze myself into 14s though! I have no idea what weight would see me in a size 10. Body shapes and clothes sizes are like the black arts 😆

relax and enjoy your meal out @RenegadeKeeblerElf with your mum and sister, I remember being ‘scared’ of food for the first 7 months or so on MJ but it really won’t hurt you or undo all your hard work 😍

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 28/10/2025 11:48

Thanks all, but it's really interesting, I'm not at all worried about being thrown off track, the MJ is making me very confident in that sense. It's just the thought of wasting good food and wanting to use my calories wisely.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 28/10/2025 11:59

@RenegadeKeeblerElf You could use it as an OMAD day? I know if I’m going out to eat I’ll just have water all day (and morning coffee) prior to the meal, but yes, I totally get what you mean.

Not sure I'll make it all day, but I could definitely skip breakfast and have a low cal lunch. I can quite happily go all day on as little as 300cals so that would leave me enough for the whole pizza, not that I would be able to eat that much!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 28/10/2025 13:46

Ok.. please be gentle with me. I am feeling very sensitive but desperate to ask bigger ladies like me, all a bout STALLING.

I am mid-virus right now so I am feeling very sorry for myself and emotional which I know is not helping. Also delayed my next MJ injection due to feeling poorly with a temperature/aches and razor throat.
I am struggling to eat much over the last 3-4 days but lots of soup and warm tea.

Anyway, I have been on this journey since January starting at 136kg BMI 46. I have lost 25% of my weight and now BMI 33.9 at 101.5kg. That’s a 34.5 kg (5stone.5) loss so far.
i am still on 10mg but weight loss has really slowed. I expected this but the last 6kg has taken 3 months! And in the last month I have only dropped 1Kg.

I hate comparing but others seem to keep a more consistent loss. Supression feels ok on 10mg and side effect manageable and so not keen to consider next dose up.

So where do normal stalls happen? I thought around 20%? And guess the research showed those on MJ loose 20-22% in 12 months.
I had one stall at around 108kg which was my pre-pregnancy weight and understood a bit of a set point. A month or two and up a dose and the scales starting moving again.

So my question, is my only option dropping calories further, or up a dose or will I continue to loose carrying on with a 600kcal a day deficit?
Being poorly and dropping below this and yet not seeing any loss is making me think no?

Thanks for any insight into stalls

SilenceInside · 28/10/2025 14:42

@Reginaphalangeeeee I am also right in the middle of a horrible cold/flu virus, so I am with you there. I haven't been thinking about what I'm eating, and I'm not able to do anything other than sit around feeling crappy. So no exercise at all for the last few days.

I started at a similar weight to you, at 139kg, back in July 2024, so I am about 6 months ahead of you I think. It took a similar amount of time to lose 25% of my starting weight, and my weight loss has definitely slowed right down since then. Over the last month or so I have lost 1.4kg and it has taken me around 12 weeks to lose 6kg too.

Not many people on the clinical trials lost as much weight as you already have, and very few lost the percentage amounts that those of us on longer journeys need to. Mainly because there were not many people who started with the kinds of BMIs that we had. So I think it's relatively uncharted waters! Losing literally half your body weight is a big big task and will require a lot of change for our bodies to get used to.

Also, being poorly will have an impact on weight loss. There will be virus related inflammation for sure and everything will just be out of sorts. I wouldn't make any decisions or judgements until you are well and back on it.

A 600 cal deficit daily will eventually see weight loss resume. It's always worth double checking calorie counts to make sure that your totals are accurate and that your TDEE calculation is up to date.

At this point, rather than drop the calories further, can you increase activity at all?
